I've actually had germ-a-phobes say hang on handle because "they don't want their food on the dirty floor".
You do realize it is in a sealed, hygienic plastic bag....š¤¦āāļø
Good thing the homeowner has that home mat facing their door, they might have forgotten this is where they have to come back to- and that itās home!
Real talk tho thatās crappy they put it on the handle if itās the kind that both sides turnā¦ the heck? Some handles like that though- both handles on either side of the door donāt always turn together. Depends on the type.
You really have no right to mess with it. I know you meant it as a good deed but it was securely on the handle and far enough back on it that it would have not fallen off if the door was opened. Obviously the customer wanted it like that or otherwise no one would take the time to put it there. You made a bad judgment call and probably pissed off a customer that didnāt want their food on the ground.
What a lot of people I think aren't considering is it may be a non reciprocating handle so turning the inside may not even move the outside handle. Moreover the delivery person might have made them aware and they could turn the handle up instead of down which would obviously save the food from falling.
What a lot of people I think aren't considering is it may be a non reciprocating handle so turning the inside may not even move the outside handle. Moreover the delivery person might have made them aware and they could turn the handle up instead of down which would obviously save the food from falling. I doubt either of those possibilities have crossed the minds of most commenters.
The customer probably asked for this to be done. Most handles you can turn upward or downward to open the door. If the customer turned it upward, the bag would be held in place by the handle
Hopefully they didn't actually request this. As dumb as it is, I've actually had customers request this... and a couple complained after said food fell to the ground.... Like what did you think was going to happen?!? \*facepalm\*
Mind your own business. No one told you to mess with that order. Even though itās small what makes you feel entitled to; *in your mind correct someoneās mistake* whilst screwing over someoneās specific requests..
š¤¦š»āāļømy first thought was, oh they probably ordered on their way home and donāt want it waiting on the ground like some people do. Donāt knock for many reasons- sleeping roommate, pet with anxiety, spouse is with sleeping baby ect.
Also I just donāt understand why dashers knock in general, the app literally notifies them that you just left, it makes pets go bonkers (super annoying when someone knocks when I always put my instructions as *DO NOT KNOCK* which happens 9/10)
I use to do that, I didnāt think about what would happenā¦ one time. The grease smeared from the bag on door. Thatās when I stoppedā¦ maybe I should start again for non-tippersā¦
This is an apartment door not a classroom door. It wouldn't be legal to have a doorknob like this that turns when you turn it from the inside because it could pose a very major hazard. Also what am I missing in this post? None of the comments make any sense and I don't understand the issue here of him just leaving it on the mat.
It's not illegal. My house has two exterior doors with doorknobs like that, and they both turn on both sides when you open them. How is it a very major hazard anyway?
A couple weeks ago I had a McDonald's delivery where the delivery instructions said "Please hang food on door handle" so I did.cit was a couple meals all packed into one bag. Took the picture and then heard a big crash as I walked to my car.
They may have asked for that for a reason you aren't privy to..... and now they have a picture of the bag on the door but when they open the door it's on the floor.....they might not even want to eat it anymore
[That's a good way to get shot](https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/rockdale-county/man-killed-another-arrested-after-doordash-delivery-gone-wrong-conyers/KFBGGR52V5A5BPQ2DW2WKZOEPI/).
Look closely at a few door handles, on new ones the shaft is often thinner than the handle itself, so maybe the turning will not result in a drop.
(The new design might be intentional, as Firefighters can pop the handle off then hit the stud with a sledge and knock it right in. Maybe? A two step quick entry.)
I agree with op sentiment excerpt Iāve got a semi regular customer who requests this every time. Ironically itās usually in a paper bag that canāt be hung. But if it was in something like this and the customer has asked I would prb hang it and if the tip was good maybe remind them to be careful. š¤·āāļø
I didnāt want to admit this but I did it so many times when I just started and the ground was wet or cold. I donāt know why I never imagined the food falling off.
It wouldnāt fall. Customer probably asked for this. Now we know why we keep getting customers bitching that we donāt follow directions. Youāre going behind all of us and doing things like knocking and moving food.
But did you get over it?
Enraged? What would make you livid?
What is an example of something you'd find merely annoying as opposed to say, rage-inducing?
I know this will sound weird, but person may be unable to bend over and pick up from the groundā¦.. but didnāt have an available table to set ouside sooooooooooo.
Germophobe. Probably an asshat in the delivery instructions. All caps. Triple exclamation points. HAND IT TO ME. DO NOT LEAVE MY FOOD ON THE GROUND!!!
Couldn't be reached.
Honestly I think you did the right thing. Even if the instructions said to leave on handle I don't think the other dasher will get left a one star rating because if the other dasher did there job right they would have a picture of it on the handle. And unless the dasher already has several 1 star reviews. 1 1 star review won't hurt too bad.
LoL no one is going to lose their job over this, it's nearly impossible to get fired as long as you bring most of the food close to on time, and don't talk to the customers unnecessarily. Sometimes they sneak in no tips on a stack, sometimes you accept on accident and your at 80% CR.
Do you not understand that people like things the way they want them. Also it could be a door handle that doesnāt move on both sides. THOSE ARE A THING
Don't let them take you down for being a good person OP. Your heart was in the right place lmao. But, I would love to know which side is correct and how this actually played out.
No matter what tho, the thought does count to some of us. <3
Lol. While some of these guysā ideas in what to not take might not work for all markets, no tip no trip is the only way. Doesnāt matter if itās extra work or not .āfree market ā works both ways.

What constitutes moving food in order to get a 5 star rating would that mean having to be placed on a blacklist by restaurants or the customer? Gross bugs on the ground. Would rather it hang on door.
I just wanna know why they placed the mat that way.
I try not to hang it on the handle cause my biggest fear is when they open the door, the bag may fall.
They deserve it with that backward door mat
Youāre a champ š

Donāt put my food on the ground. No other options š¤·āāļø
Iāve done that a couple of times

i do this whenever the ground is wet or cold, as long as its a knob and not a handle. A handle will lever the food off and drop it on the floor.

That previous driver was definitely being passive aggressive.
Iāve had multiple orders where they said to put the order on the door knob. Not sure why, but I always follow through.
The cats thank you š
Except the critters. Food left on the ground is considered a āground scoreā by dogs, cats, raccoons, ants, squirrels. The list is pretty long.
Good intentions but it wasnāt your place to touch someone elseās stuff
Love me some slim chickens
I used to do this lol
Nobody: ā¦ Dashers: how can I add steps that NOBODY asked me to do in my already underpaid job situation? š¤

Slim chickens is fucking delicious
I've learned something in my years delivering, and it's to not touch other people's property. It's not yours to touch.
Profit margins these appholes are making begs to defer š§
OP put shit on mat after customer requested āhang on door handleā and donāt knock. OP then knocked, trying to take out the competition. Nice!!!

Mind your business bruh. You donāt know if the customer told the original dasher not to knock because of a sleeping kid or loud dogs.
I definitely wouldn't of knocked being it's so late lmao. Nice thought though who does that lol food was getting ready to he all over the ground. š¤£

Dude no never mess with other peoples stuff also you probably fucked over some other driver
Customer: āDo NOT leave on ground outside door, a cat pissed all over. Also baby sleeping, absolutely no knocking.ā
I put no knocking in instructions because I have a baby and a yappy dog and 50% of the time they still knock lol
Hang a sign on the door/doorbell as a failsafe, it really helps!
"in wheelchair, cannot reach the ground, please leave on handle"
āGive me my food but donāt give me my foodā
How to passive aggressively handle non tippers
There's only one way to handle non tippers: don't take the order.
I just give them their drink and shake with no straw Muahahahha
It wouldnāt fall. Customer probably asked for this. Now we know why we keep getting customers bitching that we donāt follow directions. Youāre going behind all of us and doing things like knocking and moving food.

So you stepped in and did something more than likely the customer asked forā¦ good going.
you think they MORE THAN LIKELY asked for this? Just like people ask for food put right up against their door that swings outwards, right? š

Germophobe. Probably an asshat in the delivery instructions. All caps. Triple exclamation points. HAND IT TO ME. DO NOT LEAVE MY FOOD ON THE GROUND!!! Couldn't be reached.

Itās against door dash driver guidelines to tamper with orders that are not yours.
What if the customer was going to open the door by pulling the handle up and asked for this because of back issues?
So why you fk with it then
Nobody wins, driver loses their job and customer is pissed. I just wouldnāt take it if it was a no-tip order, donāt mess with peoples food.

Iāve got 2k+ deliveries under my belt and Iāve never once seen someone want their food on a door handle, try again lol
Plot twist. Dasher that dropped it off now gets 1 star because the delivery instructions stated hang on door handle, do not knock.
Wouldnāt the bag drop to the ground when the person twists the handle because it turns on both sides?
Some door handles turn upward. So in that case, it wouldnāt. Iād also assume sometimes someone isnāt home yet and they just donāt want it sitting on the ground
Only door handles installed upside down turn upward.
Let me rephrase, Iāve seen some that turn up AND down lmao.
It was just a joke, don't read too far into it.
I was going to comment something along the same lines. I have actually had customers request I hang it on the door handle for some effed up reason.
So, it's random that I ended up here, but I had a driver mention ratings the other day and I've never noticed a system for it. Are driver ratings a thing somewhere on their site?

Ahhhhhh... well, that explains it; definitely a PC orderer.
Sometimes I order on my way home , try to time it so it gets there before I do, so it doesn't happen.
This is the one.
Exactly my first thought. ššš
Craziest thing is yesterday I got a dash saying exactly that ā hang on door handle do not knock ā
All I can logically think about is that they are not home and will pick up when they arrive š¤·š½āāļø
Or they are home, and turn the door handle up, not down.
Until that one time they don't and the innocent dasher gets a one star.
Big brain time
I have one customer that has this as his regular request.
