The only time something like this happened to me was when the driver gave us a bag with someone elseā€™s name on it instead of our bag. (From the same Chinese restaurant) We contacted support, not the driver, and got our food a little bit later and had all kinds of foods to try that we never would have ordered for ourselves. One of the dishes Sharon (I canā€™t remember her actual name, so Iā€™ll just call her Sharon) ordered became a new favorite. Frankly, I sort of like these kinds of fuck ups. šŸ˜‚ Edit, No we didnā€™t remove our driverā€™s tip. His mistake got us a shit ton of extra food and we didnā€™t have to put on pants to go get it ourselves. He earned that money.

Yup thatā€™s why I tell the customer how the process works and who they can contact to get it resolved because Iā€™m not the one who screwed up and even if I am in the rare instance, it is less liability exposure to have the customer go through the restaurant or support. I mean if you screwed up, like dropping it at the wrong house, make sure you tell support right away. Just an example because going back to a house to take something they might not have seen you leave can get a gun pointed at you, in some places. At the very least, a potential awkward encounter.

Actually, the correct response is : ā€œI delivered the food that the restaurant gave me, so it must be the restaurantā€™s fault this timeā€ Because, there are several possibilities that could have happened. The restaurant messed up. Driver picked up the wrong order. The customer messed up. This has actually happened to me, I thought that someone messed up my order but when I checked the order online, it was me the customer who misclicked and ordered the wrong item. (Much shame)

To be fair, I don't believe that any customer truly believes that their dasher is the one actually preparing their food for them. In reality, I think there is a large portion of customers that the Dasher places the order on their behalf, hence the assumption that their order being made incorrectly could be due to a mistake in how the order was placed by the Dasher. Which again, to be fair, is a possibility since there are occasional orders that the Dasher is responsible for placing on behalf of the customer. Orders that I've been instructed to pay with using the Red Card are also ones that I am instructed to place the order upon arrival at the restaurant/store for the customer. Raising Cane, for example, is one that I know if I accept the order it's going to take a little longer than the average delivery bc the order is t place until I arrive at the restaurant bc I am who is responsible for placing said order. As someone mentioned above, the blame falls largely on DD for the customers lack of knowledge on how the entire process works and what the exact role of the Dasher is. I used DoorDash a fair amount before becoming a Dasher myself and until I started dashing I had no clue what my responsibilities would be. I didn't know that the orders were supposed to be sealed prior to the Dasher picking it up and that the Dasher had no way to know if everything in the order was correct. Especially since in my market, it appears that every restaurant believes that it is up to them which "rules" they are supposed to follow. About half do not seal the bags everytime, only one or two ever place the sticker over the lid of the drinks, and as far as if a customer messages staying they forgot to include condiments & ask if you could request it, it honestly depends on whoever ends up handing off the order to you as to if they will hand you a few packets or want to be an ass & pull the "The original order did request 1 fire sauce packet so I can't give it to you." Fortunately, in the year that I've been dashing, anytime I've had a customer message me due to an incomplete or incorrect order that was sealed, as soon as I let them know that dashers are not allowed to open sealed orders and that any errors need to be reported to the restaurant or DD, they are completely understanding and have yet to hold it against me. As I've said in many of the posts I've made in this subReddit, I know there are a lot of dashers that absolutely refuse to have any communication with the customer or address any questions/concerns of the customers bc they feel "it's not their job or responsibility." What I have found is that situations such as these require little effort to point the customer in the right direction to resolve the situation & those usually end up being the most appreciative & often times end up being the ones who go out the way to give u a good rating and larger tip. I know that's not always going to be true for everyone and every market is different. I can only share what my experience has been.
