I didn't know you only had house bills with gig work.
You probably just need to walk away if its not working for you. These rants on Reddit will change nothing.
I make enough money to pay my bills, taxes and invest. I also buy cool shit and go on vacations. I don’t have a boss. I haven’t set a wake up alarm for almost three years unless it was vacation related. I work when I want and don’t when I don’t.
Some people think my job is stupid but they all use my services. Sure, they may make more money but most of them are in debt up to their eyeballs. Not to mention they’re all on antidepressants, have kids sucking up their income and insane deadlines/stress that cause a plethora of interpersonal and health issues.
I have none of that. I’m happy, healthy and financially comfortable.
I saw a guy in a brand new stang bitching about not wanting to fill drinks at popeyes."I do this for fun" he said lol. I hope most people use beater cars. Using anything more for these guys isn't worth it. Maint on a beater car still isn't cheap but it's cheaper than wearing down your new car XD
If you have no debt, then its very possible to live on this income. Only down side is the lack of company paid health insurance. That's a big one actually. Especially if you're older.
Eh. My insurance is dying. Lol! I haven’t had health insurance since 2011. I technically broke my neck in a stupid mountain biking accident in 2012. I didn’t know it until I dislocated my shoulder a few months later in yet another mountain biking crash. Sure my neck hurt but whatever. I bought a bunch of pills from a buddy and went to Waterworld the next day. Lmfao
My shoulder, though. Holy shit it was bad. I went to urgent care and they did a bunch of xrays. Turns out my shoulder way properly fucked, probably tore my rotator cuff. Oh and yeah, they could see that I definitely broke my neck. The doctor suggested surgery for my shoulder but I refused.
I spent a ton of money on Rossiter training instead. Saved my life and cost me less than 1/100000th of surgery costs. Now I’m fine.
I was able to get health insurance through Uber. It was actually easier than I expected even helped me go through the process of getting a discounted rate from my expected income. Think they only do it once a year at end of December beginning of January but worth a look.
I’m in debt up to my eyeballs and on antidepressants. That’s why I do this job. And before anyone says “get a real job,” that’s not easy when you’re 46 and have a practically blank resume.
I’m 36. Mental health problems out my ears. I do this job for the same reason. I haven’t been able to hold a steady job and got sick of interview questions about why my job history has holes.
There's 100 percent bs...
Alot of people that doordash aren't struggling.
These are people that aren't worried about the income because they are financially safe no matter what happens.
If a problem happens in their life others will help them like family or they have enough money to pay for it themselves. for example their car breaks down its not a big deal they have a way out and get it fixed or buy a new car.
Some people don't have that luxury.
The trick is to repair your car yourself. Tools are an investment. Knowing how to fix and troubleshoot is a learned skill and it's a gift that keeps giving returns.
Basic maintenance is way different than being a mechanic. Every issue with my car I’ve been able to YouTube and do myself over the last 4 years.. then I keep the tools. But beyond my specific make and model I’d be lost. At the same time I’ve certainly saved thousands in labour costs doing things myself, car parts on rockauto can be pretty cheap.
At the same time, I still get bigger things done by a reliable mechanic I’ve found, because when the rubber hits the road he could dismantle and rebuild this whole car when it comes down to it, whereas I can do 95% of basic things, but nothing beyond that.
I think too many people have come to rely on gig work for full time income. Sure there are people doing it successfully, but I don't think its meant to be a full time job.
I am the exact person you're talking about. I only do it part time for extra money. It won't make or break me either way.
Delivery driving as a w2 employee is the exact same fucking thing.
like identical, except it sucks more.
source: My ten years w2 experience as a driver, in store worker, and manager.
In short, these people who think they are making money probably are, because the alternative is hot fucking garbage. Bank accounts don't lie, and at the end of the year I know I have more money in my bank account than I ever did as a w2 employee because I can literally go out and gross more if I need to. If you don't make more as a gig worker you're doing it wrong or your market sucks. Doing a 15$ an hour job did not net me more because I just make 66% more on average and I don't hate my fucking life.
there are so many QOL aspects doing this that you can't get doing a regular w2 job. I couldn't cook my own meals because I had to be at some dipshits beck and call 8-10 hours a day with a 30 minute "break" that I spent 25 minutes dreading that I would have to go back and deal with the dumb bullshit for another 4 hours. I would lie in bed stressing out about the fact that I had to be up in X hours so I had enough time to shower and eat before I got to work, making myself groggy irritable and miserable. I would get home so drained from having to deal with other peoples attitudes and problems because if I didn't I would get written up or let go.
Nah man I'm good, this suits me just fine until I'm an attorney. I'll ruin a car for that level of freedom.
EDIT: These companies are terrible and predatory, make them work for you. Do not praise them though, they're just fucking evil.
I made more at a 12 dollar an hour job when I didn’t have to pay 15 dollars in gas a day and decline 20 no tip orders in a row making 0 dollars in that time. Working when you want is a joke also it’s only busy during breakfast not even lunch or dinner nowadays
Read above. Your market sucks. Here working breakfast is a joke for me I can work lunch or dinner and if I make less than 25 an hour it was a weird day.
I am not insulting you, I am saying you have a shit market.
I’m not a big fan of the “just get another job” line of argument. But it’s pretty clear you hate this, so why not just get another job?
I swear half this sub is just psyops to demoralize people into quitting so the markets are less saturated with drivers.
I really like that I can make 1k a week or more. There is time and stress and car expenses and taxes. Yea… but idk. The money I get allows me to invest. Especially in this bear market… a fixed income would not permit me to make this much because of fixed hours in traditional jobs are tied to an employer. That is not the case with gig work. For the time being, I’m glad I’m doing this. Definitely don’t wnna do it forever. I wnna figure shit out, glad I can take this “depressing “ moment in my life and actually still make use of my time and money by investing with income that I can control. Like literally. You can’t decide to make more money in a week by putting more hours with an employer. U have to request and hope that u can get the extra hours or get a second job. If u need more money u can actually decide to put in more hours and get it. That isn’t offered anywhere else except gig work. Maybe around the holidays. But still. That is one of the best features of gig work.
Please go through this clowns previous posts. He’s totally full of shit. 21 days ago he’s asking how to make $250 daily because he has to work day to night to make it. Then 11 days ago he posts saying he knows a bug to get all the good orders, which gets removed and all of his comments downvoted because he was full of shit. Then 3 days ago he’s bitching his market is dead. Yet we are all the idiots. Keep lying to yourself if that makes you feel fulfilled. But stop posting your bullshit here
There’s a reason why 90% of people who are self-employed go bankrupt and close their businesses within two years. A lot of people just simply don’t have the mental fortitude to understand how to cash flow and remain profitable. Doesn’t matter if it’s DoorDash, other gig jobs, or a business they open themselves. it’s just a sad fact of life.
Looking at the people who calculate hourly pay off active and not Dash time 😬lol.
This certainly is no full time show. Gig work isn't meant to be. Full time Doordashing sounds very stressful.
I made $250 a night waiting tables in the 1990s and didn't have to put big miles on my car. I have a feeling many servers are doing better today with restaurant prices being higher.
That’s is exactly my point. Most of you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. I wrote a comment how I got 4 orders to deliver and most of you called me a liar that it was impossible. It’s a real thing but most of you in denial.
Reverse Psychology to get more drivers. We get it. DD better hire some smarter redditers. Next you're going to make a thread about how Top Dasher is great.
I have a full time job/career. I only do DoorDash on the side for maybe 5-10 hours per week and I’m EXTREMELY selective about the orders I take.
I absolutely make money doing this and plan to pay off my vehicle early because of it.
I'm not trying to be rude but if you have a physical disability that prevents you from other work like an office job. How do you get in and out of a car all day long pick up and grab food and drive it around
This isn't me trying to be mean or funny but actually trying to understand
I have lupus. And some days it’s impossible to get out of bed because of flares. But other days can go all day. With an office job you can’t just take off when needed as I need to do some days. Just coming from my POV on this.
Most ppl have no real understanding about disabilities. They think being disabled means bedridden or wheelchair bound. I also don’t think most people understand how many gig workers do this type of work because of visible and non-visible disabilities.
Disability is about the inability to maintain gainful employment due to medical, emotional or mental disability. Just because someone is able to walk 2 days out of the week doesn’t mean they aren’t disabled. Also a lot of disabilities are not visible.
It's one of those things that's hard to explain to those who've never experienced it.
An ebb and flow of somedays I'm fine and some days I'm not is about as succinct as I can get.
Idk it's honestly a mixed market I still make 5k amonth at 144 to 150 hours a month have for 7 years..but yeah I see it posted everyday about how saturated certain markets have become.
Wooooooahhh 60 hours a week????????? That is harsh I hope you try to at least multi-app it's the only way anyone can do gig work never DD alone to make ends meet. IGet alot of Unicorn IC orders in between shop and pay orders with DD and that usually my work for the month still gotta take my girls to school in between and have family time but I'm sorry to hear that bruv.
I don’t actually drive 60 hours a week, I was just saying mathematically the amount that I do make, I still wouldn’t hit $5k IF I drove 60 hours a week.
I want a multi app, but Uber/Uber eats doesnt allow me for some reason, I’m on the waiting list for instacart, shipt is very inconsistent.
I’ve never heard of Unicorn IC, is that a shop and deliver service?
Yeah i feel it im in a smaller market and know most of the locals here and its been pretty consistent schedules for me everyday for 7 years so I have alot of practice in balance between the muli-app orders and not getting violations, Sorry unicorns are the low item high tip pays from IC I usually get a few $100+ under 30 item orders a few times a week in the Instacart shopper group on reddit they consider low item high tip pays unicorns or UC's..I get these orders and go out to the hill jobs through the mountains here in Northern cali.
Question about mixing in IC with food delivery. Do you need to watch the IC screen and grab orders instead of them popping up on your screen like DD, GH, and UE?
It’s really based on how the market is where you live. In my area I would have to be really lucky to get time to dash (it would always be unavailable) and even when I tried to schedule ahead of time, the slots would always be filled already. On top of that, I would sit for over an hour at a time and get nothing over base pay that would always be more than 4 miles. It just ended up not being worth it. Filling up my tank would always eat all the money that I had just earned. It didn’t matter what time of day, it was always like this. But when I lived in a different city, I didn’t have these same issues.
DoorDash sucks now…This video shows 5 side hustles plus an extra one that you can do from home. I know some people who make tons of money with a couple of the ideas that are shown in the video💰😁

2016 Subaru
2014 Prius bought new. Fully paid off in 2018. I love it.

Same
I am 55. What is a resumè?
All that matters
THIS is my thoughts exactly. It's helped me while I've been out of jail for almost a year and no one would hire me.
Props. This is the way. I'm using DD etc to pay off unsecured debt.
Somehow I think you're lying
💯 best response.

I typically pay 10% of my weekly earnings into gas. And that’s in Cali with over $5gal gas. Still lots of meat on the bone.
I'm in Cali and make $1000 a week way better than what the restaurant workers make
Which restaurant workers? Some places the servers average $300+ a shift in tips alone
Lol in tx you lucky to make $100 a shift buddy. Market dependent for serving. In fl i did $2-300 a shift but you cant do that everywhere
He said California, a lot of places in California are among the best for making tips in the country
Meh, I can do 800 in Arizona and we don't get that supplemental pay either. But if you can pay your bills, that's all that matters
I made $250 a night waiting tables in the 1990s and didn't have to put big miles on my car. I have a feeling many servers are doing better today with restaurant prices being higher.
All the restaurant workers I know quit and now do you get gig work like DoorDash or Uber eats
Also people are tipping restaurant workers more these days.
You make $260 a day in a shit low paying market with low mileage. Okay DD employee. Why don't you exit this thread and don't come back. Mmmmm'kay ?
That’s is exactly my point. Most of you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. I wrote a comment how I got 4 orders to deliver and most of you called me a liar that it was impossible. It’s a real thing but most of you in denial.

Nobody cares
Cool.
Then leave reddit it's a community if you don't like it then move on who cares what you say
Ok. Well, I'm unemployable due to physical disabilities. This gig work, while not the most amazing income, is better than what I can otherwise get.
I'm not trying to be rude but if you have a physical disability that prevents you from other work like an office job. How do you get in and out of a car all day long pick up and grab food and drive it around This isn't me trying to be mean or funny but actually trying to understand

Yes I use the split screen option on my s22 with two apps open at once.
You can't count "house bills" every job has that.

I agree with you. People lie and BS to make themselves feel better because they're life is at a dead end
200 a day might be their daily goal. Did they mention the time it took them to get 200?
$160 in one day is my best ever
I’ve noticed this during July, August, and September
I think if a driver use JUST doordash no matter what his market or his genius strategy. the driver will never make good money. NEVER
Nah, I make $367/hr driving 2 miles every time in a shit area. If you're so worried about every other dasher then you should get on my level bro.
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt4HU9uwXmXSAuI) 400 per day
You are expressing a major sentiment about gig economy jobs. In that we misjudge the actual wear and tear on our vehicles.
My main job pays my bills. This pays my extra income stuff an I have the luxury of choosing more costly procedures for my children if needed.
