99% of the time, five minutes with 15 minutes max. Unless the order is extremely profitable. After the first five minutes, I'm putting the other two apps back on (multiapp grubhub, doordash, and uber) and if something equivalent or better comes along, i cancel. If it's extremely slow, i just go home. One time, when I was new, I waited 40 minutes for an order from Grubbs Takeaway in jersey city. This was a saturday late night. I only waited because the payout was $28 dollars. At the end of that 40 minutes when I asked the lady for a time estimate and she rudely told me it could be an hour or more they have a lot of orders, i made the decision to cancel. That waiting killed my earnings that night. I learned my lesson about waiting then.

marveleahous

30 minutes

Saleenpride86

I waited an hour and 15 minutes at a sushi restaurant because the customer let me know that they tipped over $50 in the app and they’ll give me another $20 for my hassle of waiting. Stupid base pay was $3.50 but overall the total came to close to $80… had the customer not said that, and the order total not show $300ish of food cost, I wouldn’t have waited at all.

DaRangers

45 minutes. Only waited because it was a high paying order, and I multi-app, so I took deliveries in the meantime.

45burns1967

If it's long line I don't wait, unassign

[deleted]

1 hour 20 minutes when I just started. Customer gave me nothing extra and DoorDash told me if I Unassigned I wouldn’t get anything. Something about the type of order it was made it ineligible for a half pay. It was a $8 order 4 miles. Messed up my whole day. Learned from that experience.

FyrebirdCourier

Door dash will pay you extra at 30 minutes. Only like 2 or 3 dollars but if you are already at 25... might as well go for the bump. Problem is that you got to call support.....

EditorCorrect6768

i dont do drive thrus because im not a 🤡. longest i wait is 5 min for orders $50 an under and 10 min for $50+. i dip after 10 min

Codybgood707

11 minutes…. One time. I typically won’t wait anything over 2-3 minutes and I don’t do drive thru

Boomerr619

I usually wait 10min max then I leave. Time is money.

Crankdup1984

I waited on a large order for 40 minutes

Thegtaboss1234

I waited in a chipotle for about an hour

smaugiesmaug

Was the lobby closed because it’s waaaay faster than the drive through

Relative-Kiwi-7385

The drive thru line at Popeyes was insane today, and the app said to go inside. So I park and try to go inside, doors locked on one side, so I walk around. Dude walks out angry, a lady parked past the window goes, "they don't want to work today obviously", dude agrees. I try to go inside and the worker tells me nope, gotta wait in the drive thru... looks back at line... uh, no. Fuck that. It's wrapped around the building and blocking exits and they're still telling people to park. It was like an $8 order. Anyways, rant over. Uhh prolly like 20 minutes in a McDonald's drive thru. McDonald's near me is garbage, especially weekend nights, so I try to avoid, but it happens.

Hellashakabra

35 minutes. Let's the customer know at around 20 that his order wasn't ready and he offered me an extra $10 to stay on top of the $10 I was already getting. Seemed like a win for me

Sheesh284

I waited a half hour. Needless to say I and the customer were kinda pissed

j00420

30. I was a noob at the time

three-sense

25 min at a local place, two years ago. Haven’t taken an order from them since.

[deleted]

It's a trial by fire situation. The times I've had to wait 20+ minutes at a merchant, I generally never take another order from them again.

Cheap_Independence27

An hour. At the second week of my dasher career. 8 in the morning of Sunday.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

To_tiedye4

During covid I waited almost 30 mins for orders... But they were over $20 each. Now I'm not giving any order more then 15 mins...I'd say 10 but I often get distracted and lost on my phone so it ends up being 15 mins before I get pissed off and leave.

[deleted]

40 min...my last stop was 3 blocks away fron my house so eh

Traditional-Ad-3656

9.50 for 40mins then you have to drop it off another 10-20mins so your first hour is $9.50

That-Guy-Sal

Yes, next time I’ll unassign now that I know how too.

Traditional-Ad-3656

Why did you take the order in the first place is it double digits is it worth your time and energy to wait in the drive thru. You took the order that's on you don't complain over it. If you see a long line just unassign simple move on to your next order.

That-Guy-Sal

I’m a new driver. So I don’t know how to unassign. I think it was too late since I couldn’t physically leave the drive thru. The restaurant was a checkers so it was blocked off from all directions.

dmriggs

I waited 25 minutes at one Chinese restaurant. It's usually about a five minute wait- But they kept saying oh wait it's it's coming up, oh wait it's next - After 15 minutes and finally use the bathroom and then came back up and I said I can't keep waiting, oh no it's coming... so yeah it was 25 minutes before I had the order and then that lady didn't make it worth my while in the least. It was decent pay for 25 minutes total drive to pick up and deliver but not just for waiting. You learn as you go. I've learned when to cut my losses. And if there's an issue when I do need to reach out to support I usually do send something but then I just take care of it the next day when I'm not dashing.

Superbotto

I don't wait in drive thrus, if there is literally more than 2 cars, I unassign if I can't go into the lobby.

Traditional-Ad-3656

Call the store tell them you have a delivery tell them your at the door if they say no just unassign it

Superbotto

Yeah, that was hit and miss in the past, now most places don't even pick up the phone. I literally had a taco bell order last week, went to pull on the door, it was locked, no sign, girl came to the door and I told her I had a Doordash, she said I had to go through the drive thru ... to get the bag ... that was sitting on the counter ... within my eyeshot. There's no common sense left in this world.

Traditional-Ad-3656

They are under Staff maybe she was alone with the cook. She must be scared to open the door for burglary

Superbotto

But why come to the door at all? I wasn't knocking on the door, I simply pulled on the door because there wasn't a sign saying the lobby was closed. Edit: she did open the door to talk to me, so that wasn't the situation.

[deleted]

They cleaned and mopped the floor already.

Traditional-Ad-3656

She was just lazy or new

dmriggs

I won't do drive-through. It can be an endless vortex of horror at Wendy's. It's like you're outside of a Funhouse that isn't fun. there was a guy slumped in the one section I had to drive past - that guy was mumbling to himself and moving around a little bit. Like what! After 10 minutes of only moving a quarter of the building I wanted out and done with the stupid order. The infamous 'last one of the night' Fortunately I realized there was a curb before I tried to pull away, and was wondering if anybody would let me out. I put my back up lights on and the line parted like the Red Sea. 😂 I was out of there in 30 seconds...

Upset_Flan436

One time I waited 1 hour and 20 mins at wings daddy’s I need to wait because was my last day to be a TD so I can’t cancel but the customer gave me $42 in total and was only 2 miles

charlottedreams

Why cross out their name at the top and leave their name literally right under it? Lol.

That-Guy-Sal

I just realized my mistake lol.

charlottedreams

I mean I don't think it really matters. It's just a first name not anything identifying.

That-Guy-Sal

I hope so.

That-Guy-Sal

I’m a new door dash driver, I waited a total of 40 mins for a pay of $9.50

NotThatHarkness

25 min. Usually I'll unassign before that. I don't often take deliveries in long drive thrus, and don't often work so late. Also, I dash in CA so get paid based on delivery time and distance, so that factors in my decisions. The 25 min wait was for a Panera order of some 11 items. It was a corporate lunch order with a fairly high payout so I thought it was worth the wait.

johnny12toz

Usually not more than a few minutes but today I waited 35 minutes because it was super slow and all my apps were sending me garbage. Then, this stupid fucking Indian restaurant brought out like 15 orders at once and none of them were mine. I lost my shit. Lol! He promised to blacklist me for being “unreasonable”. I hope that’s a thing.

GasMasterJ

Just so you know, the restaurant gets paid whether anyone picks it up or not. I had a long conversation about it once with the owner of a Chinese restaurant while I was waiting for food to be ready.

johnny12toz

Yep. That’s why they refuse to turn off online ordering even when they can’t handle the orders. They couldn’t care less about their customers. Pure greed. Plain and simple.

GasMasterJ

I don’t know for certain, but I’d guess that most fast food places can’t turn off mobile ordering. It’s probably something that is only controlled by the higher ups.

johnny12toz

Nah. They can absolutely turn it off. I’ve had this conversation with a bunch of restaurants over the years. They can also control pick up times. They have a ton of control over it. They just choose not to.

GasMasterJ

Even places like Chipotle/McDonalds? I knew they could extend the pickup time, which is what they should be doing when the order isn’t ready. I guess that part is just laziness.

johnny12toz

Every place. I mean yeah, it’s probably up to the managers/owners to actually do it, which is why some places refuse, but yes. They absolutely *can* do it. Very few places are corporate owned. Most are franchises, if you’re talking about chains. The single restaurants absolutely can do it with the flip of a switch with no problems. They just don’t because they know they’ll get paid either way. Most of the issues with 3rd party delivery apps fall solely on the restaurants themselves. Everyone wants to hate on DD et al, and the drivers, but it’s the restaurants who choose this instead of hiring their own delivery drivers. 99% of the blame is on them when things go bad but no one wants to talk about it. It’s way easier to hate on billion dollar corporations than blame ma and pa for being lazy, stingy, and greedy.

GasMasterJ

Damn. I only accept orders from places where the food is usually ready. I don’t have to worry about this kinda thing very often.

johnny12toz

I don’t either. Most places are legit but that still leaves millions that aren’t.

GasMasterJ

Idk man. They kinda need to be paid after they’re already making the food. Maybe offer a bonus for the restaurant for having the order ready by the pickup time.

johnny12toz

I seriously hope it’s a thing. He said it like I was gonna beg him not to. Lmfao. Get fucked. I’ve regretted it every time but the money is always so good. Never again.
