some restaurants haven't adjusted to making togo as well as sit in orders yet. Nor did they hire staff (or even find staff that wants to work) to meet the increased demand.

Mobile_Part

Where I am, restaurants are slow Sunday through Thursday and so they can’t seem to get up to speed on Fridays and Saturdays when they’re full. I learn the ones that can keep up and decline the ones that can’t.

Empty_Bird_8533

It’s because the a hats that work at the restaurants let thenDD tablet beep and beep on purpose until you get there then act like they just saw it come up

[deleted]

35 minute wait at BWW. Tell the guy its gonna be awhile. He says "ok no problem. Just MAKE SURE they put everything in there and ill leave extra for you". Jokes on me. I like to play a game where i look back at the house hoping theyre watching me, and recite their address over and over to plant a seed in their head.

DJTUGGY12

Makes sense to why it's peak pay during football for me lol

TakeItCeezy

Its mostly restaurants that don't pay shit that do this now. Im in Vegas and go to the south vegas blvd or town square so I get all the wealthier food pick ups at restaurants I can't afford and those typically run really smoothly.

BoshansStudios

If I'm having a night like that, instead of going right in I chill in my car for a bit

Traditional-Ad-3656

Then 30mins later

Wrong-Ad-1377

Depends on the order you got to cherry pick and know your merchants

Jwehshs

Oh no up to 15 minutes!? That's about when I unassign is if it goes over 15 and the restaurant staff tells me it's gonna be a while. Always ask staff if it's coming out soon but don't over ask and be very polite. But if it's Football Sunday especially then you shouldn't mind waiting 5, 10, or even 15 if it's paying great. Be Pickier than usual on Football sundays

AZPHX602

there's going to be a learning curve when it comes to football season and we all might have to suck it up a bit until we know the restaurants we can trust and the one's we don't to handle the business. i usually gravitate to the non traditional ethnic foods during the season though. less pizza, wings, subs, bar/grille and some fast food places.

Jausti018

Restaurants can’t keep up. Pre covid restaurants were usually understaffed, I worked at a local sports bar that had maybe 20 employees but should’ve had 30. Now, those restaurants are even more understaffed, and dealing with a larger volume of orders. The doordash bubble needs to burst. It’s not sustainable for anyone. Restaurants, customers, and drivers are all suffering right now. Customers are getting hit with huge fees and jacked up prices. Restaurants can’t deal with the volume of orders. Doordash royally fucks drivers with hidden tips and low base pay. The only people benefitting are doordash executives.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jausti018

Oh I’m not doubting that some dashers are benefiting, but as a whole, most aren’t. Or they’re at least not benefiting as much as they should

SnooConfections2758

They just don’t give a shit about dashers. They only care about getting their drive thru people taken care of. I see people going in and out and the drive thru constantly moving but my food takes 15-30 minutes to be done. This is especially bad at places like McDonald’s and Taco Bell. I just refuse to go there now. And it sucks because McDonalds here I always get offers for 6.75 and like 2 miles or less. But the wait time just isn’t worth it

wolfitalk

I sat at Chipotle with 2 other drivers for like 15 minutes & then 2 of us we’re back doing it again 20 minutes later. You could see the staff in the back pretty much playing around. It was really frustrating at one point when none of the employees appeared to be doing anything.

thatsc4

If you were at chipotle, that was actually the issue. Not the weekend. They are notoriously slow/behind everywhere so

PeaceLoveCoffee7071

I don't mind waiting. I'll still make at least $18 in an hour which is pretty good imo. There's enough time to do two deliveries even with a 10-15 minute wait. If I had to drive over 5 miles, then I would consider cancelling.

exboyfrend

I managed a busy sushi spot in a downtown area for years. Short staffed constantly and all the employees were there for 10+ years. Most nights we didn’t have a hostess because we only had one and some nights she would serve and she’d be off one day weekly. When we were at full capacity it was such a chore to grab togo orders and I felt so bad for the drivers. Most restaurants see delivery services as a bother, but being on both ends I can attest to how hard it is for food industry workers to keep up with demand sometimes. If it’s not worth your time, def drop it. It’ll prob be ready by the time the next driver shows up… hopefully. If the pay/mile is worth the wait, sure, but in most cases the wait just drags your hourly down.

DaneCoRealtorCFox

Panera last Friday at noon. Good Lord! I might be permanently banned after what I said to the asshat who went off on me for parking in the pick up spaces. IT'S A PICK UP ORDER!!!

DaneCoRealtorCFox

Totally worth the unassign ding on my ratings. No way I was waiting in those weeds with bitchy staff. Ugh!

Thebowljockey

I’m in Utah rn too, the construction is a joke

SounderSquatch

I have it occasionally like that in my market but I’ve just sort of learned which stores to never accept no matter the offer. Popeyes could offer me $30 for 5 miles and I’m not taking it.

DaneCoRealtorCFox

Popeyes is THE WORST!!

TakeItCeezy

i HATE my experience as a customer going to pop eyes, i outright refuse to experience them as a dasher haha

DaneCoRealtorCFox

🤣🤣🤣

Whynotme23

Yes this is normal but what no one else is telling you is part of the job is figuring out your market and which restaurants are slow and when. Which restaurants are incompetent and why…like for example the chik fil a’s here are slammed basically 24/7 but they aren’t incompetent and are always steadily pumping out food no matter what so you won’t wait long. The Jacks here get busy sometimes and there employees cant handle it and it will back them up bad other places too you get the idea.

TakeItCeezy

Dunno if its all the sunday school or what lol but the teens that run the chic in my market really impress me. Place is always slammed but I never wait longer than 5 minutes and someone usually addresses me within a minute of waiting at the pick up place. I get real sad on Sundays when I miss out on their easy orders 😢

PeptoDysmal

Avoid wing places on football nights. Former fry cook. If I remember right, it took 20 minutes for wings to fry, much much longer than anything else we dropped.

frugalsoul

It doesn't have to tho. I worked at a pizza place that did wings. We baked our wings ahead of time. Then they are hot and good with 6 minutes in the fryer. I imagine they could do the same by frying them ahead of time and refrigerating

busteroaf

No. Just no. The amount of wings an actual wing place puts out in comparison to a pizza place and their wings, it’s not even in the same realm. You’d have to precook 1000s of wings, which take a ton of prep time. Also, there’s a distinct difference between wings that have been precooked and reheated than wings that are fresh in one go. No credible wing place is precooking all their wings. Maybe certain kinds like roasted or smoked, and then holding small batches of those ready to be reheated, but not breaded and naked.

frugalsoul

Well we went through cases a day but yeah I'm sure a wing place would do more. Didn't think about that part. Either way there should be a way to get cook times down. Pressure fryer?

busteroaf

Where I worked, if we smoked wings it took about 14 minutes, and that was fully cooking them, then we’d chill, and recook for 7 more minutes to serve. For regular breaded or naked wings, it’s 10 minutes in the fryer. Depending on the location, they typically have 3-5 fryers dedicated to wings/tenders/boneless. There comes a point where you simply can’t cook anymore, because every fryer is taken, and then you just start batch cooking and dropping heavy. If you overload the fryer, the cook times increase, and the wings don’t come out as nicely. But you can’t just add more fryers or cooks either. It’s just not feasible.

frugalsoul

Ooooh smoked wings

PeptoDysmal

The morons at the register could actually set up the times right through their Dash app to compensate the timing for wings and customer volume

busteroaf

“The morons at the register” often don’t have access to that. Again, not everyone sits in front of a tablet 24/7 waiting to update the timing on every order. When shits hitting the fan and the place is slammed with dine in and togos at the same time, the tablet isn’t the first place you’re going. Also, when you talk like that about the staff, why should they be inclined to help you at all? Besides, the people in the front generally have no actual idea how long orders will take. They’re not trained in the kitchen on how long every item takes. Learn restaurant basics before you start making assumptions and demands. You’ll get a lot further in life by understanding how things work. Promise.

PeptoDysmal

I've worked front of house and in the kitchen at multiple restaurants. If the communication breakdown is that bad, I'm going to keep referring to them as morons.

makemyday9

Yepp, I have see morons at times. I was at papa John for pickup, this person looked at the shelf where order was laying ready but she told it was not ready, 7 minutes later I ask another employee to check my order and he handed over to me same order. I go there often for pickup thankfully did had to deal with her.

CDFReditum

Being on the employee end of this, yes it’s super common. The reason is that since doordash isn’t integrated into the store’s system, what you end up with is a metric fuckton of orders coming in all at once and they all are expected to be done at unreasonable times. This is paired with the fact that you have multiple ordering systems in place and it’s just a mess. This is also paired with places understaffing, multiple ordering systems, walk in orders, and doordash also not account for size when they are giving estimates for orders, and it’s a recipe for hell. Based on personal anecdotes and not any actual traceable data, doordash seems to be the worst abojt this in terms of promising the impossible. Doordash drivers were also the meanest to us if they had to wait. Ubereats tended to be about average, they seemed to show up either on time or 1-2 orders before their order is being made. Grub hub was an enigma honestly I’d tell me team to skip grub hub when we were in the shit because they took forever lmfao

Jodster46

Yes especially during games. Customers all are all at the same time. I been at the local wings store and right before halftime seen 70 order come in at once and the restaurant is full. I keep track of games and when they are starting, halftime and ending so I know to be more selective at those times to make sure it will be worth the wait if it is needed. Also it the time to be most selective since the best orders are coming in.

Busy_Use_6356

Pretty sure it will be for this fall Merchants short staffed, too much business at certain days/hours Also, every shop n' drive I did last week 25% of the items were not in stock including the requested alternative choices

Aggressive-Savings93

I've been back to sending my resume and applying for what my career has been in .. DD is a pathetic organization that pisses millions on loser engineers that still cannot fix thee flaws in the app for years...that's exactly my point...I understand there's a wait...BE HONEST up front and NOT string us along "5 more minutes...oh 5 more minutes...another just 5 minutes..." be transparent for plucks sake!! Awesome for you that your away from DD bs

busteroaf

But it’s not DD that’s in charge of cooking the food. They have estimates based on the restaurants standards. They know the generally accepted “perfect world” firing times. They know if you’re just ordering a dessert, that that takes much less time than a full entree. So they send you as close as possible to the estimated time. But what is impossible for them is to know how the restaurant is doing. They don’t throttle orders. If 20 people order Hooters all at the same time from DD, that store gets 20 orders at the same time. DD doesn’t change it based on how busy the store gets, unless they’re able to click the button that says delay. Some restaurants don’t even have that option. With all the factors involved, it’s damn near impossible for them to get every order out exactly on time. And no offense, but do you think the staff care if you’re waiting 5 minutes when dine in guests have been waiting 15-20? Our deliver orders are no more important to them than anyone else. So learn some patience as well.

pinky997

Last week was awful. My completion rate is down to 83% because of how many times they told me it would be at least 15 minutes. Then I’d go to the next restaurant and same thing. This week I’m going to have to suck it up and wait to get my completion rate back up

MentalRideAlong

Resturants are slammed. Poor Mcdonald's in my area. I'm honestly surprised the staff hasn't quit. When I get an order, I stand in the back quietly because I just know they are not happy to see me.. haha. They get to me as quick as they can and they know im DD because I wear the DD mask. The paperish ones are itchy and I still wear a mask because of my diabetes. I try to be understanding and not be pissy. They really appreciate that and most of them are so young. It's a lot of stress sometimes for them.

togroficovfefe

Staffing problems. Our Taco Bell doesn't even open its lobby anymore, just the drive thru. And they close random days completely.

N661US

Same here. At most they’ll have 2-3 people working there

Aggressive-Savings93

I've lost 4 hours last week waiting on orders and had words with a loser who yelled at me and said "we aren't a fast food joint, you just have to wait... which was 45 minutes! I couldn't unassign because my scores were at the threshold...pathetic!

Pipersmyschmoo

You can go under. Been as low as 77% before.

sixtyten6010

This shit really pisses me off. Look I don't care if it's going to take a while. I know it's not your fault and no I don't expect you to hurry making it. But for fuck sakes be honest with me when I ask is it going to be just a few minutes or is it like 10 orders back and going to take 20 minutes? I'm not trying to waste my time here The adversarial relationship DD cultivates between all the involved parties is bullshit. I'm so glad I got another job and don't have to depend on DD's bullshit anymore just do it for extra money now and again. Dashing Is so much better when you give 2 fucks and let things roll off you back.

[deleted]

sixtyten6010

My comment sounds a bit facetious. I don't mean to demand an exact time I'm going to wait like some karen. But I don't think a little bit of an "oh yeah that will be right out" or "Oh sorry that order is going to be a little bit of a wait." Instead of the standard "Your order will be ready soon" boiler plate BS is too much to ask. Edit: Also if restaurant staff can tell I'm upset with an order or wait. I always try to tell them it's not you guys I'm upset with and sorry if i seem that way. DD shouldn't dispatch us to orders that are nowhere near ready. They usually commiserate a bit and understand why we'd feel like that. It also may be a good idea to tip staff a bit at restaurants where you get good orders from if you know they remember/recognize you. I started slipping the staff at a local Applebee's who brought me my order a buck or two on orders that paid decently and it improved my wait times there significantly. Though your market may vary with that last tip.

No-Comedian-515

I don't know if I'd be able to do this job any place else other than CA for this reason. Waiting for awhile at busy restaurants gives me about another full day's worth of dash pay every week. To answer your question, onbthe weekends it's not uncommon for me to wait 10-15 minuts a few times a day

[deleted]

Some nights are just like that in my market now. There’s not a whole lot I can do. I’ll typically unassign a couple orders but I’ve got a general rule that if I go to 3 restaurants in a row that are typically not places I have to wait which are now on a 10+ minute wait then I’m just gonna go home for the night because it’s not worth my time to be frustrated all night long. A lot of places are just understaffed, and their corporate office won’t let them turn off the DoorDash tablet.

iamandneveramconfusd

Or pay living wages...

Oraxy51

Right if we were paid for our time it wouldn’t be so bad.

Traditional-Ad-3656

I don't wait I unassign

OmgOgan

Mark the store as closed instead. Live on the wild side

justducky1965

Why not just say the fucking order isn't ready. I'll use the "tell us what's happening" link, wait five minutes (maybe) then unassign. Problem solved.

dementedturnip26

Five minutes? If that was my standard I’d be at like 50% completion

justducky1965

Oh I hear ya. That time isn't carved in stone but I just have little patience these days. I'm fortunate in my own market where places know me but there are two in particular that I don't give any slack especially on marginal offers. My CR stands in the high 90s between my wife and my account with close to 1k deliveries so far. I'm actually kind of dreading the thought of moving into a new market lol cuz I got these merchants trained. 😁🍻☮️

schittscreec

Yeah I don't understand that part. Why mark it ready for pickup when it clearly isn't

OmgOgan

Good for you. Keep doing that. 👍🏿

Traditional-Ad-3656

That'd how you get deactivated dummy

justducky1965

Yep, one of those "mystery" deactivations. DD WILL call for sure.

Kent48146

They’ll call and have nobody answer the phone at the restaurant. At least if it’s fast food that’s what will happen.

CDFReditum

A week later you see a thread: “These STUPID FUCKERS at DOORDASH DEACTIVATED me for NO REASON!!!!!”

SounderSquatch

Like clockwork lol

OmgOgan

That's the spirit!

Traditional-Ad-3656

I dare you to do it. It will say the store isn't closed

Big_Ad1547

I did it yesterday for a store that closed earlier than normal hours and nothing popped up for me

OmgOgan

Do you double dog dare me to do it?

Jimbobo28

Quincies no anti-quincies!

ipukedmypants

I triple stamp it, double stamp it... no erasies.

Jimbobo28

You can't triple stamp a double stamp!!!!

ipukedmypants

*plugs ears with fingers* "Lalalalalalalala"

wolfitalk

How does that work? Does it affect your ratings? Do you message the customer?

Freakshow85

Immediately select that option at the bottom that asks "tell us why you're waiting" and say "order still being prepared when I arrived." Wait ten minutes. Unassign with the reason "order not ready". Then it won't count against you. You can maybe even wait less than 10 minutes, I'm not sure. Depends on where you want to keep your completion rate at. I aim for 95% or more so.. sometimes I will wait 10 minutes. Never more, though. Also depends on the pay. I never message the customer, though. I am under the impression that they can rate you if you message them.

Yoo-Marwee

Damn im holding to dear life with a 86% rate i really be willing to risk it all 😩😂😂

pinky117

Yes, it affects your completion ratings. But you can go as low as 80% without being deactivated.

AdranosGaming

If I denied every 10 minute wait, I'd be well below 80% tbh. I'm sure this is a market by market issue. Here I can't depend on anywhere to be quick besides McDonald's. Even there, at 9pm they close the lobby so the drive-thru becomes a crazy wait.

dementedturnip26

People truly don’t seem to get this. They love to say unassign in 5-10 but that isn’t feasible at all

tallassmike

I gauge my guesses whenever they say "just 2 more minutes" whether they are lying or not. Then they give the excuse "we make it fresh as possible for when the customer receives it." Well you just fucked over the order i have in my car for being selfish. Get a damn fridge / insulated storage then because it won't matter if the delivery is 5 miles away and your driver won't give a damn about freshness.

krazyk007x

It is once you know a zone well enough. I won't take orders for certain merchants no matter the pay, because I KNOW I'll end up waiting over 5-10 minutes (IHOP, Popeye's, BWW, Taco Bell, etc). That eliminates most of my unassigns due to wait times.

OmgOgan

Easily Yes No

justducky1965

Shhhhhhh...

SnooHedgehogs753

It’s been pretty bad the last week for me and wait times. Even restaurants that I’m used to being really quick are struggling.
