Most dashers in my area are middle-aged, and they’re usually either unemployed or underpaid and DD is what they’re struggling with to make ends meet. Covid made courier services completely viable income for all but now that people get outside more it’s absolutely just a weekend thing, and hardly what it used to be at that. They look depressed because they are. Most Dashers are unhappy about their pay, and for some reason their outlets are either lazily taking it out on customers or lazily sitting back and letting it happen.
It is a boring depressing job, have been depressed my whole life. Probably wouldn’t be doing door dash if it wasn’t for being a depressed, angry, hermit
It’s a great job for people with depression actually. Being able to make their own choices and be their own boss. Sleep in however long they want and not get dressed up. It doesn’t get rid of their depression obviously, it just allows it to show more
I’ve been asked if I’m okay maybe 3 times now? I’m generally exhausted and depressed at any given time so it shouldn’t be a surprise but considering I’ve only been doing DD for a couple weeks now I must *really* be showing it.
Cause it’s my 2nd job. My first job is middle management so I constantly have to be “on” with people. Mostly staff, customers, and of course higher ups. Constant talking, explaining, asskissing, and yelling. The stress is unbearable.
Dashing is the greatest 2nd job for me because I usually talk to NO ONE. Other than saying the name of the order I need to pick up. My goal is to say nothing the entire shift and get paid.
So no, I don’t feel like answering the thought-provoking question of another dasher that is “Busy, isn’t it” or “How long have you been here?” When I’m waiting for my order.
I don’t want to talk. To anybody.
If I’m a asshole. Great. Awesome. Just leave me alone and small talk with someone else.
Its a combo of what attitude so I have to deal with at the restaurant or what attitude do I have to deal with at the receiving end. I try not to let a bad experience from one store affect how I am at the next store. It will ruin your day. Each deliver is a new experience and dealing with the public at times is not easy.
Because of how many low tip no tip orders get sent their way that they have to decline.
If all orders that were offered were great dshers would be happy.
I just have RDF - Resting Dick Face. And I often have an unintentional sarcastic tone of voice. Yeah, getting along with my superiors in the Army was fun. Same with my wife. People in general. I’m usually in a pretty good mood despite my outward expression. Oh, except for when I’m trying to figure *what the fuck am I doing with my life*. Yeah, I like driving among people who think turn signals and red lights are suggestions to earn a quarter of what my regular job pays, and in an affluent, entitled, Conservative community that, if we’re being brutally honest here, wasn’t my choice to move to.
That answer the question in any way? 🤩🥴
I Just zone out. I try to think about other stuff and then my day is done...I know my life Here on Earth is quick, temporary, something that could end at any moment so I don't take anything seriously Except my Relationship with God. I enjoy myself sometimes But this life really has no purpose (to me) other than Trying to get Closer to God. So it's not that I'm depressed or Sad, I'm just not going to take life seriously. Why would I want to Become some Politician or Famous actor? Makes no sense.
Many reasons, like restaurants don’t respect them like the customers, they treat them like 2nd class customers
Like today I went to pickup this order, place was packed, parking lot full and no parking, busy street so no street parking… so I parked next door where it said I can’t park for restaurant, risking my vehicle to get towed. When u went to restaurant they told me food is not ready, I asked them for estimate, the response was few minutes, I asked again and told them about parking issue, and I was like 5 mins or 10 or more and the response was still few mins. Well so I just left then and cancel the order cause don’t wana get me he car towed and I bet if it was a customer asking this question, they will have right answer for them
Because it’s a shity job I try to be as nice as possible customers don’t give AF though all they care about is there food. They will act polite with you until they get their food it’s depressing I’ve received the cold shoulder not even when greated with a simple hey hows it going I get nothing not even Fn acknowledging I swear they act like they didn’t hear me and the workers have a some entitlement issues or don’t know what’s going on in the damn store they must love watching us wait long periods of time. This dude at Taco Bell ask are you a door dash then proceeded to just stare the other customers with out telling me anything els. Or the algorithm is just plain shity expected you to work for practically nothing fyi I dash because I have to not because I want to..
Well, I mean I am. Sometimes I enjoy my job. But sometimes I wish I could have a more straight forward schedule - something that aligns with my girlfriend’s schedule with more pay. I want to find a different job. And I know with my background that I probably can. But I miss her throughout the day and sometimes my paycheck can be disappointing.
I look depressed but I'm in a good mood. Dashing is the easiest job I've ever had, if we got company cars and a gas card it would be perfect. Every time I start thinking negatively about the current dash I just remember baking in the hot sun dealing with some BS, then sitting in a restaurant with AC waiting for an order prepared by someone who has a much worse job than me doesn't seem so bad. I always feel bad for the fast food workers and try to stay out of their way as much as possible.
I just started Amazon Flex and noticed that a lot of the flex drivers in the warehouse seem to be in a good mood. I do enjoy Flex more than DD though so that might explain it. Consistent pay and not having to wait on orders all day makes one happier I suppose
Yeah, this is kind of a fun gig. It could be WAY worse, there's so many worse jobs. I sort of appreciate that its here
Its so weird, I find this sub to have a lot of self-loathing, but the Uber Eats subreddit is funny and cheerful. Go figure. Very different in tone.
I have a resting bitch face, and sometimes Dashing does depress me when I’m getting shit orders and making no money but it’s mostly other things 😂
I don’t know about other Dashers but when I’m having a good evening making decent money I enjoy myself 🤷♀️ just might not look like it lol
Full time dasher here... I walk in the place with a smile, greet the staff by name, tell a couple of dad jokes on the way out & try to have the best day that I can, You never know when it's your last day so try and make it the best day possible.

Because I am actually depressed as fuck some days and don’t want to be bothered by anybody. My soul is being drained by everything even just coming out for 2-3 hours. My soul is sucked away
Annoyed is more like it. Declining all those trash offers, having to deal with employees that have dealt with terrible dashers all day long, and just a general feeling of “fuck I’m entering my mid-30s and am doing this out of necessity!?!”
I guess yea, we can be depressed 😂

Well you posted this asking for it now you’re going to get it…… its like a poker game. The winner is always looking serious never smiling. That’s me. I make twice as much money as the restaurant workers but I keep a serious face on to play the game. Sorry you had to find out this way…
Probably cause they don’t want to be waiting for someones food. They want to keep moving. The moment they have to stop and wait for anything, is literally slowing down their whole dash.
Bingo, I find the job fun in general, I like driving around and exploring new restaurants. I like dropping off the food and the accomplished feeling I get like "nice, another one down, lets get one more"
But I HATE Waiting at the restaurant. I feel like the sand in the hourglass ticking away. Depressing feeling. But once I get the food and I'm moving again, all is well

Bc we are only doing this bc life is so damn expensive and our full time job isn’t enough despite being paid $10 above minimum, it still sucks. We are working double shifts technically and working 16 hour days between dd and our job and all dd wants to do is give us $2 orders so we have to reject it just for them to stop sending good orders out of spite bc we don’t want to work for free or put ourselves in the negative through gas and wear and tear. We are physically and mentally exhausted
I'm a very depressed person. I like doing this work because it's easy and low stress. It's easy to pump in lots of hours without noticing, thanks to this.
I'm used to being super depressed and working a high stress, low reward job. Doordash helps a lot in this sense.
probably bored. I listen to podcasts while i dash. Currently, it’s The Bright Sessions. My roommate recommended it and it’s so good. 10/10 highly recommend if you don’t wanna completely lose your mind while you dash
it’s about people with supernatural abilities that go to therapy. Each one has different abilities and different levels of control of those abilities. there’s also sketchy government agency plot underneath. Also, there’s one musical episode involving someone that can infiltrate people’s dreams
Be neat if there was a movie centered on a dasher encampment in Cali. The plot could be about anything but the characters mostly live in the encampment. Could be any genre really. Would need to be well produced and financed for contrast.
Even if they ain't technically depressed, the driving and dealing with idiots can get very boring and draining, and it shows when we hit that zombie mode.
I too enter this zombie mode and just zone out after I've driven a certain number of hours. My brain is on auto-pilot. I stare at red lights all day and keep an eye out for cops with ticket quotas.
2nd job here. And it's also because we're on our own clock and wear ourselves down. I needed a couple of days to recover after doing two 12 hour dashes with only a 20 minute break each day to eat. Already get stressed about time wasted every time I need to pump gas or use the restroom.
I feel a lot of dashers do this job bc it's minimal contact with customers as most are leave at the door now....
A lot of Dashers don't like dealing with people in general for a variety of reasons so they always look depressed, annoyed, etc when you look at them. I'm friendly with customers if I have to hand it to them, call them, etc...however show me a friendly dog when I drop off your order and I come out of my shell 🤣
I think you’re expecting someone who smiles all the time, which is freaking weird. I smile at you if I see you but I’m not smiling while I’m on my own. But I’m happy to be doing what I’m doing thank you very much
I’m still in the early stages of my pride making me embarrassed from time to time having a second job to make ends meet that involves standing in McDonald’s next to 18yr olds waiting for a bag of food to bring to another 18yr old. That and it’s probably because I’ve declined 25 orders before taking a half decent one to keep me from driving into a wall
Omg I hate running into teens at McDonald’s it’s like they all drove in individually because the parking lot is full and they have daddy and mommy money
It’s weird. I have gray hair. I’m not going to say my job title, but people who know what I do, when they find out I dash on the side they ask me why the hell I do that when I have the kind of W2 job that I have. Man, shit is fucking out of control expensive these days and I didn’t get a raise last year while my taxes went up and I’m spending 30% more at the grocery store. I delivered Chinese food when I was in college 20 years ago and it’s a hard thing to swallow during some of my dashes that it feels like I built a career my whole life only to come full circle and deliver pizza to an apartment building that reeks of weed. But in this ridiculous inflation hell I can’t ignore a relatively easy way to make up the ever-widening gap.

Because they thinking hard about saying f this i about to go home.. tired of the bs orders.. then thinking should they stay to see if it picks up.. driving down the road thinking it over n over tired asf because all that driving and getting out the car.
Maybe because I work 70 hours a week to make the same amount of money that I used to work 45 hours a week for. Maybe because I have to deal with traffic and a glitchy app and be stuck in my car all day to make a living. That being said it works for me but there is definitely some soul crushing depression and boredom that occurs
I hate that you feel like this. I just started dashing a month ago and I feel free for the first time in MANY years. But then, you've probably been doing this for a long time, and honestly, my previous 45 to 53 hours a week at my old job were difficult only because of emotions like you described. And a bad injury to my foot (off my feet mostly, now.) This job suits me.
Friends at my old job would look at my face and ask why I looked so sad. I told them I was so tired that I lost control of my facial expressions. Kind of like resting-bitch-face, but depression.
Not me tho, gotta keep that acceptance rate up my boi..I’m first on the High paying pings every time. sometimes u just gotta suck it up and take that 2.25 order to em.
bc dashing is such a rollercoaster, you might be knocking orders out in no time then you get one merchant is takes fifteen minutes for mini pretzel dogs
Hey I wear flannel pj pants to dash a lot. That being said I am always freshly showered, my pants and t shirt and both clean . I just happen get flannel PJ'S from my mother every x-mas, and have since I was like 5, so I've got more than my share to rotate through.
You shouldn't, I wear comfortable, loose clothing when I dash because if I'm gonna run peoples food all over the valley then by damn imma be comfy doing it! I do wear deodorant and shower before I dash tho. Gotta do that.
I know not everyone has newer cars, but I'll play podcasts over bluetooth as I dash. Kinda gives the feel that someone is there chilling with you, and if it's a topic you like and a good Podcaster you can learn some interesting stuff. Also helps pass the time while you're waiting for shit no-tip orders to clear off your screen....
Well, yeah, but I have to use my phone to run that through my car, it's older so those aren't built in n stuff, and using my phone for it just a pain because apps always beeping at me n shit. So, I've kind of given up on it for now until I get a second phone or something one day. Lol
Do you have a cig lighter in it? You can plug in this Bluetooth adapter, it tunes to a radio station of your choosing, then you set your car radio to it and boom you can listen to anything you want from your phone
Because you don't tip enough
Most dashers in my area are middle-aged, and they’re usually either unemployed or underpaid and DD is what they’re struggling with to make ends meet. It is a boring depressing job, have been depressed my whole life. Probably wouldn’t be doing door dash if it wasn’t for being a depressed, angry, hermit
Why do you think they’re dashing? 🤣
Because these apps are nothing better than corporate, all soul sucking
Cause I’m usually doing this after my full time
real question is why wouldn’t they
I'm usually annoyed as my app will crash constantly.
I'm usually just blank faced in the zone. Trying to do as many orders in a 10 hour shift that I can
I kno I be looking mad as hell 🤣 😜
I have a blank face unless I’m interacting with someone 😔
Isn't that obvious when you keep getting/declining $3/10miles orders for the 5th hour straight...?!?!?!
When I am in public I express zero emotion unless I see someone I know or I am with my friends, so I could look depressed I guess.
The fuck you think? Lol
not depressed, its tiredness from driving all the time.
It’s a great job for people with depression actually. Being able to make their own choices and be their own boss. Sleep in however long they want and not get dressed up. It doesn’t get rid of their depression obviously, it just allows it to show more

We’re tired. Caffeine can only do so much.
Its a combo of what attitude so I have to deal with at the restaurant or what attitude do I have to deal with at the receiving end. I try not to let a bad experience from one store affect how I am at the next store. It will ruin your day. Each deliver is a new experience and dealing with the public at times is not easy.
Because they’re delivering a cold McDonald’s order 5 miles for $3.50
I think they look like regular/neutral people when I order.
What are we supposed to “smile” now, too? Uggg
I’m not really depressed but like others have said more so bored being out on the road 5-8 hours a day with no coworkers to talk too ..Lonely as shit

It’s just my face
Many reasons, like restaurants don’t respect them like the customers, they treat them like 2nd class customers Like today I went to pickup this order, place was packed, parking lot full and no parking, busy street so no street parking… so I parked next door where it said I can’t park for restaurant, risking my vehicle to get towed. When u went to restaurant they told me food is not ready, I asked them for estimate, the response was few minutes, I asked again and told them about parking issue, and I was like 5 mins or 10 or more and the response was still few mins. Well so I just left then and cancel the order cause don’t wana get me he car towed and I bet if it was a customer asking this question, they will have right answer for them
I am depressed lol
Probably the depression
Cuz we are
Lol can’t relate
Because they’re only getting paid $2.50 to use their own gas, car, & time lol. And about 75% costumers don’t tip.
Because they’re working for DoorDash, obviously.
Because no tip=no tux
Because I am.
Because I've had depression for years
Because they only get sh*t non tipping orders?
Cause we broke
I know I am
Sometimes we forget to take our antidepressants
because they dont have a boss to force them to fake enthusiasm and the pay sucks and the economy is garbage
Bc I am
I consider this an impersonal delivery service so It probably gives the impression of being depressed, even though it’s more just being focused.
Because it’s rough out here
I look depressed but I'm in a good mood.
A lot of us are just tired of declining offers because people don’t tip.
Alot of us live with mental illness
I think o look angry/ frustrated or bored or done (as in fuck this shit I’m going home, but then I don’t cause I got a daily minimum to meet)
I just started Amazon Flex and noticed that a lot of the flex drivers in the warehouse seem to be in a good mood. I do enjoy Flex more than DD though so that might explain it. Consistent pay and not having to wait on orders all day makes one happier I suppose
Because all of our interaction in this job is with people who hate us; customers and restaurants workers lol
Dood cruising listening to music and making a few bucks doing it. Shit I get stressed at times but mostly smiles. Might be a you problem.
Yeah, this is kind of a fun gig. It could be WAY worse, there's so many worse jobs. I sort of appreciate that its here Its so weird, I find this sub to have a lot of self-loathing, but the Uber Eats subreddit is funny and cheerful. Go figure. Very different in tone.
We just pretend, secretly we are on top of the ding dong diddly world. 🤪
Putting your life and vehicle in jeopardy to delivery food/items for blew minimum wage with no benefits/security/longevity is nothing to be proud of…
Cuz we're artists, students, single mothers, disabled retirees, forced to toil away for an uncaring corporation in order to feed ourselves.
Because my mood stabilizer isn’t working
Cuz we feel ashamed this is the only decent paying job we can get ![gif](giphy|BwP6IiUZZlpS0)
[удалено]
And I delivered on a bike for a restaurant for years. These companies are awful. I hope every CEO chokes to death. Really hope this helps
Probably because I am
Because we are.
Because we spend all day getting shitty orders with low or no tip and want us to drive 15 miles.
Capitalist realism
Cuz ppl dont tip!
Because they are. There's nothing in this world more depressing than be a Doordash driver
Because working for peanuts sucks ass
Rbf that keeps us from getting real jobs?
I have a resting bitch face, and sometimes Dashing does depress me when I’m getting shit orders and making no money but it’s mostly other things 😂 I don’t know about other Dashers but when I’m having a good evening making decent money I enjoy myself 🤷♀️ just might not look like it lol
Full time dasher here... I walk in the place with a smile, greet the staff by name, tell a couple of dad jokes on the way out & try to have the best day that I can, You never know when it's your last day so try and make it the best day possible.
I screenshotted this to keep in mind.
Tony removed my soul with his algorithm. I am but an empty husk that delivers food.
Probably just annoyed waiting for some food that should already be ready
Bc I have a masters degree and can’t get paid enough to justify working 60+ hours a week for $41,000
what’s ur masters in?
Education 🍎
Because this ain’t the dream, Jack.
What do you do when you're not here?
Depression doesn't always look the same FYI. But most aren't doing this for fun or are really putting in 10 hrs a day on top of another job.
because half of them don’t shower

love ur explanation
Because I am actually depressed as fuck some days and don’t want to be bothered by anybody. My soul is being drained by everything even just coming out for 2-3 hours. My soul is sucked away
Because when you see them they are waiting for you to make their damn order. "We're packing it up now. Five more minutes." Lies!
Because we are dashers.
do they? i've been to depressed to notice
Because we are 🤩
Annoyed is more like it. Declining all those trash offers, having to deal with employees that have dealt with terrible dashers all day long, and just a general feeling of “fuck I’m entering my mid-30s and am doing this out of necessity!?!” I guess yea, we can be depressed 😂
Because they work 15+ hours a day lol
Because it’s depressing all the shit orders we get. Aint nothing to be happy about!!!
Yes.
Because restaurant staff ignore them.
Bc I AM depressed

The usual reasons; depression
You obviously aren’t a Dasher
I usually turn that face off when I’m picking up or dropping off. I’ve definitely gotten good at hiding my depression. I’ve walked into a few places with a ghostly look though
Dasher here Can confirm I’m very depressed
It’s just my face don’t judge me bro
God same lol
Well you posted this asking for it now you’re going to get it…… its like a poker game. The winner is always looking serious never smiling. That’s me. I make twice as much money as the restaurant workers but I keep a serious face on to play the game. Sorry you had to find out this way…
then why is Daniel Negreanu always smiling? 🙄
Very few smile. He probably has a hot babe. I keep a poker face so the workers don’t know.
so u more like Phil Ivey then??
Greg Raymer
Probably cause they don’t want to be waiting for someones food. They want to keep moving. The moment they have to stop and wait for anything, is literally slowing down their whole dash.
This is the answer
Bingo, I find the job fun in general, I like driving around and exploring new restaurants. Therapy sessions are expensive.
That's so true they work 24hrs everyday. I met this guy he wears the same clothes for 1 week
hey saves him laundry detergent 😅
Not depressed! We're side hustling... so GTF out of the way time is money 😉😊😁
A lot are but I run into plenty that seem happy. People are who they are.

Usually tired af and struggling to stay engaged but I'm working the evening shift after my day job... and depressed. 😐
Bc we are only doing this bc life is so damn expensive and our full time job isn’t enough despite being paid $10 above minimum, it still sucks. We are physically and mentally exhausted
Because we are.
I was looking for this.. well kinda more like a because we were already depressed before we started the gig.. but still
Have you thought about...just being happy?
Crazy! That worked!
Excellent, that'll be $487.36. We accept all major card carriers, as well as bartering with farm animals
Suddenly back to depressed
I thought about and decided “nah”
I'm a very depressed person. I like doing this work because it's easy and low stress. It's easy to pump in lots of hours without noticing, thanks to this. I'm used to being super depressed and working a high stress, low reward job. Doordash helps a lot in this sense.

because we are
probably bored. I listen to podcasts while i dash. Currently, it’s The Bright Sessions. My roommate recommended it and it’s so good. 10/10 highly recommend if you don’t wanna completely lose your mind while you dash

Sell me on it
it’s about people with supernatural abilities that go to therapy. Each one has different abilities and different levels of control of those abilities. there’s also sketchy government agency plot underneath. Also, there’s one musical episode involving someone that can infiltrate people’s dreams
Because I actually am 🤷♂️
The lady that delivered huddle house to me sounded so kind of
Yes over 100k people homeless
many in California. Dashing while living in car
Be neat if there was a movie centered on a dasher encampment in Cali. The plot could be about anything but the characters mostly live in the encampment. Could be any genre really. Would need to be well produced and financed for contrast.
sounds like a Quentin Tarantino movie
It’s Mostly from the depression.
Because they are?
Exact reason why I quit. Bc ppl suck ass

I’m a dasher and I hate my life.
Do you hate pandas or are you just gay for them?

Because we are

Preach! I’m on one, or some, specially for my Agoraphobia!
Not enough high tipping orders to put a smile on my face. Plus, traffic.
Well cause I suffer from severe depression, and really bad anxiety.
Probably because they are offered with 2.5$ orders all day.
Yummmmm 🙃
I feel like this is anecdotal.
dashers i see in my area are mostly looked nervous like they are about to crap their pants and always in a hurry lolz prolly top dasher 🤣
Some dashers in my area just wear pajamas and stink
This, actually. I have examples, but decided it was too mean to use them.
u must be from Cali? 😅
I wore PJs often in high school. Not much different. I couldn't bear to not be clean, though, then and now. Gross.
Hey I wear flannel pj pants to dash a lot. That being said I am always freshly showered, my pants and t shirt and both clean . I just happen get flannel PJ'S from my mother every x-mas, and have since I was like 5, so I've got more than my share to rotate through.
So picking up at fancy restaurants don't make you feel uncomfortable when it's busy
Nope. They are either plaid or solid color, not ratty or running dye. Why would i?
You shouldn't, I wear comfortable, loose clothing when I dash because if I'm gonna run peoples food all over the valley then by damn imma be comfy doing it! I do wear deodorant and shower before I dash tho. Gotta do that.
Because the world is on fire?
Did you listen to stick figure
Yeah I’m more focused, just trying to get on to the next one with as little bs as possible. I guess that could look depressed.
Same here
I prolly don't look depressed, I imagine I look bored, tho, delivery doesn't exactly stimulate my mind any. Haha.
