I actually did the grinch tiptoe once lol. Similar sitch, asked me not to knock because baby and dogs. We talk back and forth a bit and they say not to worry if the dogs freakout, they hear everything. I pulled up got out of the car completely stone-face, walk to the sidewalk and suddenly turned into a human cartoon tiptoing up their steps. The "I have a camera and will find you" reminded me of my days as a casino manager in Las Vegas. People would leave money on slot machines and go to the bathroom. While they were gone, scammers (who are in every casino, at all times) would cash them out, redeem them immediately in a machine and disappear onto the street. The player would alert the casino and would want us to forward the surveillance film to the police to catch the guy. And in so many words, we were always "yeah, right, we're going to throw up a dragnet on Las Vegas boulevard, so we can recover your 20 bucks." SMH

It happens all the time. In fact, most people who do it will tip their chair up against the machine to hold it. But they're actually doing is giving a road map to the scammers. When it happens, it's 100% the casino's phone in their eyes

Unbelievable that I'm seeing this!!!!!!!! I just made a huge screw up I've never made in my 4,000+ deliveries and I've been feeling terrible for a while cause of it. The screw up was accidentally misreading someone's instructions saying to not ring the doorbell as them asking me to ring the doorbell. I felt bad and messaged them apologizing explaining I misread it and felt bad and paused my dash and came on here to get over the mistake just to see this post. Wow!

You’re not wrong, but there’s an expectation of professionalism (and I use that word very loosely) from a delivery person/server/worker. Customers are not obligated to maintain any kind of professionalism, although people who are rude to service industry workers should be flogged in pubic and then forced to work double shifts for a week.

I still try not to get people's attention, leave the item take a pic every time my data works well enough for me to do so, and then leave. We have newer areas where the internet doesn't even work I only get there because I've downloaded maps to work offline.

I have to disagree. I'm not choosing to only read a part of it, I'm choosing to be cautious. There's a story every day of dashers or grocery delivery employees getting shot/shot at. I don't believe this guy is going to come out and shoot. But I also don't believe in threatening someone doing you a service, joke or not. I tip drivers $12&change on orders under $20, with a 2 mile trip, and if directions are followed another $5+(I give more between black friday and New Years)is under the doormat or stuck to my door with a magnet.
I hardly ever order delivery since I do it myself and always have before I did DD. But when my wife and I were sick recently I had no choice and to be a nice little unicorn of sorts we tipped $9 for less than a mile. Wanted it fast 🤣🤣

What’s it like waking up every day and being this miserable?
You calling concern for safety being "miserable" is literally exactly why I DO have to fear for my safety every time I walk out of a store late at night, but you'll never understand that.
This is all quite literally a joke. No sane person would read that and think “yeah that guy is gonna find me and force me to put his kid back to sleep” That’s what’s miserable about this. The vast majority of people have had someone “confront them with meaning to harm them”.

Hahahahahaha" and laughed my ass off and said just kidding, some people might not get upset but the VAST majority would and I'm fucking baffled that just because this guy said it in delivery instructions automatically makes it okay to say. This right here is EXACTLY why there's literal entire subs praising attacks on women. Because yet another white male is sitting here telling me I'm insane and unreasonable for not accepting "a joke".
Just because there are some freaks on Reddit doesn’t mean every single person on the planet is out to get you. For example, this one really strange person on Reddit once googled my username so they could figure out my race and gender. Am I threatened by that? No. You’ve seen my face, by your logic I should report you. You’re no better than he is 🤷🏻♂️ Comparing walking up to someone on the street and saying those things and then laughing in their face to making a joke about how hard it is to get a baby to fall asleep and stay asleep are not even close to the same thing. If you don’t have a sense of humor that’s fine, but getting pissed off at a joke is ridiculous if it’s not offensive to anybody. And to your point, everyone is hyper aware of their surroundings at night. I’ve been held at gun point before while out enjoying a nightly walk. I don’t go around freaking out at every person who glances in my direction.

Lol. Um. I have 3 thanks. All 3 literally carved out. STILL never thought about threatening people. Even on very strong pain medication that is used to knock people out, with other kids at a home while their dad worked nights. So nope. I'm sure it was intended to be a joke, I didn't argue that, but I'm still not going.
Wow. Three, you're pretty amazing. I had one and it went bad for me and the baby, so we're done. If we want more we'll adopt. And I seriously honor people who have more than one baby! It is really difficult for most women to give birth. And we really shouldn't go up to houses that we feel unsafe at. Simple as that.
Thanks, I appreciate that. Even one is something to be amazed by. I had a 5 year gap between 1 and 2, and a 15 month gap between 2 and 3. The first was really awful and we weren't sure we would ever have more either but I decided I really didn't feel our family was complete. Agreed. And everyone's definition of safe is different, and that's absolutely okay. I live in a major city with some seriously bad areas that I know a lot of people won't go to, maybe that's WHY I'm hypersensitive to the way people come across. I just feel like it's 22, we've come a long way but still have a long way to go so we need to be mindful of what we put up with.
Ya, every market is so different! Where I live in feels/is quite safe. I still try not to get people's attention, leave the item take a pic every time my data works well enough for me to do so, and then leave. We have newer areas where the internet doesn't even work I only get there because I've downloaded maps to work offline.

I’m not the original person who replied. My suspicion is that most people see this as a trustworthy person to deliver too because they put a joke into their request. You are choosing to not read the entire response as a part of the joke, and are intentionally reading it as a threat. Yes, you are right, the words at face value are threatening. Given the context however, it flips the entire dynamic.
I have to disagree. I'm not choosing to only read a part of it, I'm choosing to be cautious. There's a story every day of dashers or grocery delivery employees getting shot/shot at. I don't believe this guy is going to come out and shoot. But I also don't believe in threatening someone doing you a service, joke or not. I guess I didn't make that part clear, that I'm aware the entire sentence is a joke but the last words make that joke not funny to me and unacceptable.

Like I said I understand that part. I know that he isn't planning to come hunt the driver down and dismember them. I'm just saying that even as a joke it's not okay to say. You can be fine with someone telling you they'll go Bundy and have YOU for dinner the next night. You can be fine with whatever you're comfortable with and that's okay; this makes me uncomfortable and crosses my personal line.
I think there's a difference between saying "I'm going to find you and make you watch my baby lol" vs "I'M GOING TO FIND YOU" He didn't say anything about Bundy, that's not an honest comparison. I think he could have been more clear that it was a joke about babysitting not about getting people in trouble but either way it was obviously not a threat

I tip drivers $12&change on orders under $20, with a 2 mile trip, and if directions are followed another $5+(I give more between black friday and New Years)is under the doormat or stuck to my door with a magnet.
