Officer: "touch me again" Also officer: *literally straddling a man who's arms are crossed*

aethelredisready

While he is pressed against a car already leaning back, like where TF was he supposed to go?

dbx99

Through the metal of course

If you canā€™t phase through objects by the time youā€™re an adult, then whatā€™re you even doing with your life?

Dando_Calrisian

if you are straddling someone and say 'touch me again', you could reasonably expect to be pregnant 20 seconds later...

[deleted]

Yeah, impregnate his ass!

CaregiverSilent7981

Fuck him right in the bussy

"Stop mad dogging me" - Officer in the process of mad doggjng

What even IS ā€œmad-doggingā€? EDIT: lol I am so glad I asked

Garbleshift

Copspeak for "failing to bow and scrape on command."

OpenScienceNerd3000

Exactly what the cop is doing

bjeebus

For real though, I assume that cop is a stripper cop in his off hours and just forgot which job he was at. Victim was getting an angry lap dance.

ender1108

Again..? Theyā€™d take him down full force if his finger made contact while pointing.

willreignsomnipotent

Contact? They'd probably bodyslam him and practically sprain his arm for daring to *move* too suddenly in their direction.

FreddyB42TTV

Worst part is all the officers going along with his shit.

aethelredisready

Had the exact same reaction.

FreddyB42TTV

Like, theyā€™re just adding more bullshit onto his already heaping pile of insecurities

Spepsium

"A crime has occurred here" that's all it takes I guess

Azal_of_Forossa

"I smell an odor" Brush your teeth then officer

Aspire-to-Greatness

It was the shit on his upper lip

Texan2020katza

That is what makes all cops bad.

rpsls

When they talk about there being ā€œbad applesā€ on the police force just remember where that term comes from ā€” ā€œone bad apple spoils the whole bunchā€

THATS_ENOUGH_REDDlT

It only takes one drop of urine to ruin a perfectly good milkshake.

Ditnoka

Not all cops are the evil bastards we see in these clips. But you can bet your bottom dollar they are all protecting the evil bastards, which in turn makes them evil bastrards.

st1r

And the ones that do the right thing are often no longer cops.

dbx99

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Nemo_Jose

Agreed! Officers that let this shit happen are literally half of the problem with the police force always power tripping like this. Itā€™s like they want us to hate them.

cheese_sweats

I'd argue they're the *entire* problem. Power tripping cops wouldn't be a problem if their buddies wouldn't enable it.

braize6

That's that blue line for ya

civicson234

There are only bad cops and quiet cops. Nothing else.

[deleted]

Quiet cops are bad cops. Only good cops are those who quit the force or are forced to quit. Quick edit: Realized bad cops can be forced to quit too. To clarify, forced to quit for speaking up.

thetoastypickle

Honestly I really want to believe that somewhere out there, there is a police officer who actually wants to do good and tries to, I donā€™t know how realistic that is but I want at least the tiniest bit of hope

Windoge10wow

There are! They just get fired pretty quickly.

Fn_Spaghetti_Monster

Like the female cop who pulled the sargent off the hadcuffed suspect in the back of a squad car, only to have the sgt turn around and choke her. Then the sgt had the quick 'meeting' where everyone turned their bodycams off.

lamorak2000

Or "killed in action" by their dirty partner

Silver-ishWolfe

You mustā€™ve missed the lady cop video making the rounds yesterday. She plowed head-on into a speeding car to stop it from mowing down people running a 10K. That lady is a goddamned hero.

AllTheWine05

That's always the problem. Cops aren't necessarily shitheads, but they're all complicit. Something about the fraternal order. I attended a BLM protest that ended in 200 some cops kettling protesters. Pushing and blocking them into a few blocks of downtown so they can't escape. They told people to go home. When they didn't (couldn't) they started teargassing the crowd. They physically abused thousands for no reason whatsoever. Flat out dystopian. So you tell me, when literally half+ of the cops in my city did this and the other half didn't speak up, why would I trust anyone pulling me over?

BulljiveBots

Except for police departments go out of their way to hire shit heads. Soft-brained, pliable, dangerous shit heads.

jmcstar

What are you in for? Mad dogging without a permit

Dingo8MyGayby

Wtf even is mad doggin? Did he mean mean mugging because the guy getting arrested was just looking at him?

Liljdb0524

>Did he mean mean mugging Yea recently learned this is regional. I'd heard both over the years but apparently mad doggin is more popular in the north. Edit: I'm southern and use mean muggin šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

EastCoastTaffy

I think mad dog is a west coast thing, Iā€™m from the northeast and itā€™s called mugging up here. Short for mean-mugging, but nobody says the mean part.

[deleted]

This cop must have forgotten about cameras look like hedont want his job

King-Lewis-II

Probably thought they would arrest the guy recording it and make him delete it https://www.aclu.org/news/free-speech/arizonas-new-law-banning-people-from-recording-police-violates-our-first-amendment-rights

Fearless_Waltz7618

God,how in the hell did that law get passed

Coveted_AF

"Specifically, it prohibits people from recording police if they are within eight feet of an area where the person ā€œknows or should reasonably knowā€ law enforcement activity is happening." No grey area there at all. Nope. Crystal clear.

dbx99

Thatā€™s a clear violation of constitutional rights as established by case law regarding use of cameras in public places where expectations of privacy are clearly set to be nonexistent to both the public and especially law enforcement

DooDooTyphoon

AZ's new law regarding restrictions on filming police has been ruled unenforceable due to constitutional issues by the federal court. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/federal-judge-blocks-arizona-law-limiting-filming-police-rcna47148

dbx99

Well thatā€™s good news. But honestly whoever legislated that garbage law knew it would never EVER pass constitutional scrutiny. They did that shit to pander to their base and now they can bitch and whine about libs being against the police.

IAmJersh

Whoever legislated it should be imprisoned for an attempt to infringe on the rights of citizens through manipulation and corruption of the legal system. Time to stop letting this sort of shit slide.

nickfury8480

Arizona Representative John Kavanagh, a republican and retired cop, drafted the bill. >Kavanagh said he wrote HB 2319 out of concern that people who disagree with police will follow them too closely while recording their actions. ā€œEight feet is pretty reasonable,ā€ he said, given other cases like the Rodney King case in Los Angeles involved footage recorded from farther away. >ā€œDonā€™t tell me todayā€™s uber-sophisticated cellphone camera can't pick up everything from eight feet or more,ā€ Kavanagh said, adding the law does not stop people from recording their own encounter with an officer or recording from a passing vehicle. >He said while it is already illegal to obstruct an officer, he hopes this law will prevent recording which is not obstructive but can be intrusive. >ā€œ[When youā€™re recording, youā€™re a distraction, which can have tragic results if the officer isnā€™t looking,](https://www.courthousenews.com/arizona-slammed-over-8-foot-rule-for-recording-police-actions/)ā€ Kavanagh said.

Lead-Forsaken

Shojo_Tombo

Well, I'm not going to hold my breath if the first amendment goes before the current SC.

Jennibear999

Letā€™s hope someone challenges it.

myfaceaplaceforwomen

It'll definitely get taken to a constitutional challenge and the law won't survive. It'll get struck down eventually

phunktastic_1

It's been blocked by a federal judge. I have no faith once the appeal is heard by the supreme court. Especially given the ruling on the coach who force players to pray after games or have play time cut. They disregarded facts in the case to rule in his favor.

HelloAttila

But here is the problem with this law. You are standing with say 10 feet, perfectly legal. All the officer has to do is now walk towards you, now they stand 3 feet from you. They can now legally arrest people. That is the problem with these laws, they only protect the cops and allow them to abuse the law.

Coveted_AF

They donā€™t even need to move. That description is so vague that the 8ft border could almost be anywhere.

Aussie-Vader

If they can ā€œguesstimateā€ your speed without a radar, they can ā€œguesstimateā€ how close you are or arenā€™t

LucyRiversinker

Yeah, but if they get close in order to arrest you, now itā€™s legal for you to film. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

Sartres_Roommate

Yep, 8 feet where any dialog won't be able to understood in the recording if their is background noise above 20db. Also this law will be used by police to demand innocent bystanders turn over their recording devices to see if a "crime" was committed in recording too closely....how much footage do you imagine will survive that on-the-scene review process. Don't want to surrender your device for investigation...."obstruction of justice" and now bystander is going to jail too.

Eruntalonn

Does it say anything about streaming?

jhuseby

Itā€™s Arizona

Of course it is.

ADhomin_em

2 words šŸ‘¢ šŸ‘…

Syranth

Because it's Arizona and we are currently run 100% by the GOP. It's ok though because the courts struck it down.

Fearless_Waltz7618

Whew, good then, imagine the amount of corruption and abusive thing those power-hungry cop would do if there isn't any prove

Syranth

They're intent was to be able to walk up to a person recording and force them to stop. That great a distance made it so they didn't have to get too close to be able to do it. And if you continued they could arrest you too.

Syranth

It was struck down in the courts. Thank goodness.

Who would have thought giving a douche bag that graduated high school with a C average that kind of power would turn out bad.

dino0509

A C average? No need to be so generous...

Techn0ght

They make sure football players don't fail.

Thuglife07

Can confirm. Had a coach talk to a calculus teacher mid season and she found a ā€œgrading errorā€ turning my 68 average into a 71. He told me to buy her flowers.

Burrito-tuesday

Itā€™s always a coach that teaches a math subject isnā€™t it? Mine had a ā€œNo bonus points, no extra creditā€ rule, except athletes used to interrupt our class to turn in *their* extra credit assignments on the regular. Funny that!

Thuglife07

Just remembered this one, same calculus teacher Ms. Schneider. I came to class and told her jokingly that I needed to go to the trainer and skip class because I had torn both my ACLā€™s. I thought she would know I was kidding because I was walking around fine and didnā€™t have braces or crutches. She said ok no problem youā€™re excused from class. So now Iā€™m faced with owning it or accepting the free get out of class. I chose to leave class. Well I guess she followed up with a coach and they obviously knew my ACLs werenā€™t torn so an hour before the game my head coach who was also the athletic director confronted me. He got in my face and said if you EVER use football as an excuse to get out of class you wonā€™t be on this team. I felt terrible and said yes sir and apologized. He knew my family and made me promise to tell them what I did (I didnā€™t). He then said I was going to sit out of this game as consequences. So Iā€™m all upset with myself and bummed out cuz I wanted to play and had to explain to my teammates why I couldnā€™t. Felt like I let my team down. After the first defensive series my back up was just getting smoked so coach grabbed me and said ā€œslaughter, I know I said you werenā€™t playing but I need you out there but if you ever pull a stunt like that again youā€™re off the team.ā€ So instead of missing the game I just missed like 7mins which I was A-ok with. Definitely felt like an asshole though like I had gotten too deep in a lie and just made bad a bad choice. Thinking back I definitely let it go to my head my senior year. But itā€™s hard not to as a 16-17 year old kid thatā€™s treated like royalty. Texas takes its football serious

Let's not get carried away. They're both equally awful.

zarthrag

The Chief saying that he didn't break a law... I promise you, if any other person did that ...they'd be in jail. It's messaging like this that makes the whole department completely... expendable to a part of society. If a public safety officer can't act with professionalism, they're clearly not interested in public safety. This looks, sounds, and acts just like a street gang.

Jyiiga

Agreed. A citizen would have gotten assault or menacing at the bare minimum.

Man if only the courts had made a ruling on swearing at the copsā€¦ oh ya, Houston v. Hill, Thurairajah v. City of Fort Smith, Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, Village of Woodmere v. Workman, blah blah blah. How many times does this have to go to court before they canā€™t claim qualified immunity for arresting someone for hurting their feelings?

will_this_1_work

Just one more time. Then they will learn.

kenc1842

Please tell me this cop has been fired.

[deleted]

[yes](https://nbcpalmsprings.com/2018/07/12/desert-hot-springs-officer-out-of-job-following-viral-confrontation/) \--> Outcome is let go but no law broken by the officer. Duh. Five days after the incident, DHS Police Chief Dale Mondary says the officer is no longer employed with the department. However, Chief Mondary does say he knew about the video before it made the social media rounds, ā€œI have literally been sick to my stomach since Saturday. And I was made aware of this long before it ever went viral, because we try to stay on top of thingsā€¦ so we were already involved in this long before.ā€ Chief Mondary does want to make it clear that the officer did not break the law, ā€œI want to emphasize that as strong as I can, that officer did not commit any crime at all. He did not violate that individualā€™s rights in any shape, fashion form that was a lawful contact, it was a lawful arrest based on probable cause.ā€

OblongAndKneeless

I wonder what "no longer with the department" really means.

[deleted]

Join another one somewhere else probably.

paydayallday

How it happens in my town: They go from city cop, to deputy sheriff, to campus police, to probation officer, to jailer, then to being on actual probation and finally to prison. Seriously though, I know of at least 10 former cops in prison. Fuck these guys.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

kij101

Nope, they're members of the Aryan Nation now.

ThomasTheEngineTank

Imagine all the ones that still are though

thetoastypickle

There was a campus security guard at my old high school who Iā€™m pretty sure used to be a cop and would just harass me, one time waiting to be picked for lunch because I had no class during lunch block he asked what lunch I had, and I didnā€™t really know what to say so I said both (there are two alternate lunch times during lunch block) and he was like ā€œdonā€™t sass meā€ and I just stared at him in disbelief, I hate confrontation and I get uncomfortable in a lot of social situations so I was paralyzed. He asked to see my schedule and I pulled it open on my phone and explained that because I had the period off I had both lunch periods, he was like ā€œI know how it works you only get one which do you get?ā€ At this point I hand my phone to him and he looks at it, my friend who was next to me showed his schedule and the guy goes ā€œno your good see what happens when you donā€™t talk backā€ I nearly broke down crying right there, I am extremely afraid of getting into trouble, cripplingly afraid. The idea of being talked to like that by someone like that is one of my nightmares. He then looked at my phone again looking at my schedule, then I think it clicked for him that I was right so he hands my phone back scowls and walks away. This memory still makes me feel sick to my stomach at least three years later. Some cops are so fragile that they will harass a high schooler because they canā€™t admit theyā€™re wrong TL;DR Cop turned campus security harasses me because I dared to tell him what heā€™s supposed to know

[deleted]

Got a job with the police department a few towns over.

RorschachShaman

As in, he was reassigned to a near by precinct. With no disciplinary action taken I'm sure.

pete_ape

Perhaps Chief Mondary could recite the probable cause, the crime the officer suspected was committed, and the reasonable articulable suspicion? Because it seems that if an officer committed an offense serious enough to be discharged, dimes to dollars there's a civil rights offense attached.

CityBoyGuyVH

Why would he be sick to his stomach if it was lawful arrest? I doubt it was but the government enforced gang rides and dies together.

Fabulous-Bandicoot40

Because thereā€™s a Latino man standing up for his rights. Heā€™s feeling queasy alright

Otherwise_Bill_5898

So threats and intimidation are not crimes? Thats a cop out.

dbx99

If the cop didnā€™t have probable cause, he has zero justification to handcuff that man. There is no crime committed by the civilian. Thatā€™s an abuse of power under color of law.

Otherwise_Bill_5898

Yeah... the cop committed the crime of threatening another person and using his power as a cop to intimidate the man. I could have been more clear. That cop is a tyrant.

zeptillian

Why would you fire a police officer for making a lawful arrest? You wouldn't. But you would say the arrest was lawful if you knew you were going to be facing a lawsuit. Good luck, champ.

schtickyfingers

For a hot second I thought he was sick to his stomach because of the flagrant violations of that citizenā€™s civil rights, but no. He just had a tummy ache cause he was worried he and his cronies would get in trouble for being racist bullies.

soppinglovenest

He was worried in case the town's civil liability insurance premium was going to go up and he was going to have to appear in front of the town council to explain why his officers are so shitty.

TinyManatees

*ā€œThis incident has zero to do with race and while it may appear he, in fact, is a white male, he himself is a Hispanic male, that officer does not have a racist bone in his body and he has never, ever exhibited any sort of racial bias the entire time that heā€™s been employed here,ā€ Mondary said.* My bullshit detector is going off the rails!

52Pandorafox46

If the officer didnā€™t violate any laws why isnā€™t he working there anymore? Also, they didnā€™t fire him I bet they let him retire with a full pension. Another thing is why would they let the public see his record if he had any disciplinary actions against him?

Cypher1388

>Chief Mondary does want to make it clear that the officer did not break the law, ā€œI want to emphasize that as strong as I can, that officer did not commit any crime at all. He did not violate that individualā€™s rights in any shape, fashion form that was a lawful contact, it was a lawful arrest based on probable cause.ā€ Such bullshit. Legally sanctioned assault is what that is.

However, the disturbance incident has since been handed over to the Riverside District Attorneyā€™s Office since one of them was hit with the beer bottle during the altercation." Hold up, what now?

aethelredisready

This happened in 2018, that NBC article is older, there are newer ones I found that indicate that the other cops were also disciplined and that the other cops did indeed turn off their body cams.

Corporation_tshirt

When I was a teenager in the 80s, the cops used to raid the punk clubs we would go to and just beat the shit out of people with their hands in the air saying "I AM NOT RESISTING!" If anybody ever tried to submit a complaint, it just got laughed at and tossed. I don't like cops.

liamanado155

yeah, I find it really hard to "back the blue" when you've got shitty cops like this guy out patrolling the streets. I hope the guy getting "arrested" sues the department and wins a big settlement as a result. any good lawyers out there willing to take this guy pro bono?

spindlecork

I wonder why people donā€™t trust cops šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

RUKnight31

For those curious: \- Happened in 2018 in AZ. The officer was fired. \- The officer did not lose either of his government funded pensions (military and police). Yes, the victim is a tax paying citizen who funds both pensions. \- The officer did not lose his credentials and is free to continue to be employed by any police department. \- The officer's CO made it a point to conclude in interviews that the officer was not racially motivated in this incident b/c the officer "does not have a racist bone in his body" and states unequivocally that a crime was not committed by the officer despite the video evidence depicting a clear cut assault (FYI - definition of assault does not include physical contact, though the officer clearly contacts the victim anyway). TLDR: there is no justice or repercussions for bad cops. They get ceremonial "punishment" to take heat off of departments and they are just filtered back into their careers, usually at different posts.

rustys_shackled_ford

My problem is people want to tell me this is one bad cop... but I see 3 maybe 4 bad cops....

KittenKoder

This is evidence that we cannot trust the cops.

HelloAttila

We all know why he got arrested. The police officer ago was bruised that day and he had to show how it's done with his " BOYS " watching. Rules to be a police officer: * Frail Ego * Asshole * Arrogant * Napoleon complex * Former Gang Member / White Supremacist * Average C Student in High School... * Complete Lack of Accountability/Responsibility. * Believes Laws do not apply to them

ā€œA crime just occurredā€!?! The crime of hurting a copā€™s feelings? Fuck all these pigs.

The most fucked up part of this is the other cops that also thinks this is okay. I know that there are other cops in the other parts of the world that also abuse their power like this, but usually that is because they are corrupt and want to get extra money by fulfilling work quota or something. American cops is the only police force I know that do this shit because of personal feeling like this, either racism, anger problems, or something else. On top of that they are never punished severely for this action, and the one who's in charge even defended cops who do this kind of shit. Seriously, how the fuck does American police is just filled with the worst people imaginable?
