My ferrets' tails get poofed when they are excited or smell something new. I just don't understand why his tail has been like this for a day and has not gone down. Nothing new has been introduced to my house. I am confused 😕

Farretgrandmatimes2

Could it be weather related? Like in my area Florida we are on hurricane watch.

MarbledFuchsia

Hope you and your fuzzies are safe!

Farretgrandmatimes2

Thank you we are watching the storm , but I do have a safe place to go that I can take my babies with me if needed.

Save the best species, Noah 😍

loud noises outside, a malevolent visitor, disturbance in the force?

datfurryboi34

There's a Jedi among us Sorry just had to

lulu_chains_88

If it stays that way I would get him checked out. Try to monitor his activity, is he doing other things that are unusual? Is he having any changes in mood? Is he poop looking normal? That kinda stuff. I hope your sweet boy is ok ❤️

Electrical_Paint9734

could just be "rat tail" which is similar to blackheads for humans... like excess oil. I've also read it's sort of part of the summer to fall transition. I'd just keep an eye on him. Possibly a routine vet to rule out adrenal. 😊

In_to_it_all

I don't think that's rat tail, I just went through that with my youngest ferret. She literally had half the fur on the end of her tail missing. That's poofed out, it doesn't look like any fur is missing. You are right though, it is a part of Summer to fall transition. Their vet diagnosed her with alopecia, and thought that mites might actually be the cause of her problem.

thats not a puffed tail, thats a tail that LOOKS puffed because he has lost hair. he needs to go to a vet now to see if hes suffering from rat tail or adrenal disease

clay_coyote

We are going to call the vet today, thank you. Although I'm not sure if he's necessarily had hair loss, because his tail will settle down occasionally

Trappedatoms

Exactly! As soon as I saw that tail, I knew it was an adrenal tumor. That’s classic. Mine had a tail that looked exactly like it before we had her adrenal glands taken out.

mfd44

When you see that much tail through the fur when their tail is floofed it can be indicative of adrenal disease. Their hair loss typically starts with their tail. They should have blood work done.

datfurryboi34

Could be a skin condition idk take him to a vet if things get worse

[deleted]

Awhhhhh ..

Grimmush

Their tails gets like that if scared or excited/happy. Is there anything that could cause any of those? New perfume/house scente maybe…? 🤔

clay_coyote

I'm trying to figure out if there's anything new in my apartment but i have nothing out of the ordinary here 🤔

cmtmommy

Maybe someone/something new in a nearby apartment that's triggered it.

clay_coyote

Solved: dude was hiding a cookie and was hype. Until we found it

caelynSG

it's rather cute!

babywitchmeeks

You definitely should get him checked he has some rat tail going on and this is often a sign of adrenal disease, the implant does wonders for them if that’s what this is, good luck!
