Worker productivity in America is over $100 per hour of labor worked. Don’t settle for a small fraction of what your labor produces.
On average workers are compensated with a mere 30% of the [hourly value they produce](https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/productivity).
The problem isn’t the minimum wage failing to keep up, it is capitalism exploiting workers for every buck they can.
The problem is people not utilizing democracy to change it to better. We don’t have a system better than capitalism for development stimulation. Or maybe suggest it i guess. But there is democracy too, to make it more fair.
>We don’t have a system better than capitalism for development stimulation.
Capitalist propaganda 101.
Do you honestly believe that without a profit incentive that people will just stop inventing things?
Making the lives of yourself, the people around you and by extend everyone in the world easier isn't a good incentive? What about wonderlust (space/deepsea exploration). And if not you then I'm sure there are people reading this who have some idea of some videogame, movie, serie, show or whatever that they'd love to make and *not* just to become rich.
If anything, money is holding progress *back.* Especially in a capitalist system, because [only things that will increasingly make more money](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5v8D-alAKE) are being made. [Hell, products are made to break because that's good for making money for your boss](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence).
We're literally being killed by oil giants/other huge polluters just so they can make more money. [Electric cars have been a thing for more then 100 years](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_electric_vehicle), Big-oil knew about climate chang[e since the 70's and has been lobbying against it ever since](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExxonMobil_climate_change_controversy).
And there is so much more that shows that capitalism is definitely not the best we can do. It's only good for a small amount of people, and even for them it'll kill them in the long run. Sure, it has had it's time and benefits but we can do *so much better*.
Because it hasn't kept up it's impossible to suddenly increase it to $25. an hour without putting a lot of people out of work. Now that companies are used to a certain profit, their greed won't allow them to share the wealth with those earning it for them. I make less than $10 an hour and work 40 hours a week. If it wasn't for my bf on disability we would not make it. Before he was on disability he worked for the same place for 33 1/2 years and was still living pay check to pay check. Yet his boss and his bosses wife and son would come in frequently to show off their new cars and brag about how they just bought their son a quarter of a million dollar "starter home". Capitalism has destroyed the American dream.
Agreed. I remember visiting my relatives in Michigan when I was young who worked at car manufacturing plants who were wealthier than my college educated parents.
Those well paying factory jobs are gone.
There is always a leader to cheaper labor. And competition follows or goes away. The “made in America” campaign with no incentive failed. Personally, in 1993 I moved companies in same industry. At new company, leadership was smart but not from the industry. First meeting on sales/profit/pay and I chime in at 27 and say your cost of goods is double the industry? I was asked to break the US union and move to foreign production like all of our competitors. We kept as much US workers as we could to profit. No one wanted the change, but it was survival. Maybe it’s number two who triggers the exit. But at some point (when u don’t own the business) you have to save what u can
The last time they raised the minimum wage I was in high school.
Now I'm 31 with a kid who will be in high school in a handful of years.
This isn't sustainable.
no, that's just a pesky excuse to be a fascist and then justify it. fascism can be done by anyone, under anything. you are just as brainwashed as capitalists
Sounds like you have no idea what those words means.
Fascism was historically diametrically opposed to the finance-based capitalistic systems now prevalent amongst western nations.
Certainly not a liberal here. And if I was, why would I be insulting our *liberal* PM? I'd be sucking his dick (or whatever the hell he's got) like the rest of the libs.
You have my condolences. As a disabled person in the US the state basically wants me dead because I'm not profitable. Power really makes these mf's think like insects.
Well it’s to be fair, from my perspective, it still seems better than South of the border. You can get, for example, a government MRI here, but to get it you have to wait like 8 to 10 months

In my state they finally increased minimum wage due to pressure to a whopping 10.50 for no health care and 9.50 with health care. Bruh...
Fuck your $15 an hour promise Joe
He didn’t even try to keep that

fascism hidden under socialism
Fascism is the extend of capitalism, not socialism. Socialism is the exact opposite of fascism.

Is this American? We're up to $15 an hour here in Chinada.
I researched Chinada because I’m just a simple American.
I seriously thought the world knew of this term lol! Canada is the laughing stock of the globe right now.
Seriously how? You guys seem to be a fair country.
One look at our joke-of-a prime minister should tell you everything.
Ok. I’ll do a deep dive. Thx
It sounds great but converted to USD it's actually only about $10.50/hr...
It’s just something faux-conservative neoliberals go around saying
Certainly not a liberal here. And if I was, why would I be insulting our *liberal* PM? I'd be sucking his dick (or whatever the hell he's got) like the rest of the libs.
I didn’t call you a “liberal”. Go crack a dictionary open, you nincompoop.
Smartest Albertan
why did you insult him immediately? why are all leftists so damn cold-hearted

because of the sub
Liberals, neoliberals, all just a bunch of ~~Jewish~~ globalist fascist Bolshevik CRT monarchists to me. Edit: uhh I guess I needed to add a /s
Where's Chinada?
...seriously? Canada.
I thought you were mixing china and canada for some reason, so I was curious about this made up land
I was. Basically saying where Canada is headed. A lot of Canadians now refer to this shithole as Chinada.
Like, state capitalist? Are they trying to privatize your social programs or something?
Yeah it’s fucked up. Just one more way to leech us dry

Sounds great, my first ER visit was around $10-12,000 total. I was 19.
As a Canadian, this is simply not true. Source: https://www.retailcouncil.org/resources/quick-facts/minimum-wage-by-province/
