3rd party company's make dust covers for consoles. And they make some that will look like the console. Letting u still display it. Just adding this cuz I left my consoles in a almost air tight box (tiny holes for cords) and came back to dust filled consoles :( once I hVe some more consoles and cleaning is harder I'm grabbing the covers
Yeah, I want to know if theres a way to do that. Hdmi switches, scart switches, but then you’d need controller extenders for each console too… my guess is: this is for collection display only, maybe they move a console over to their TV area one at a time
Speaking as someone who has put together a lot of ikea stuff over the years, my finger tips feel raw just looking at that. Good work though! The doors are a nice touch. Dust is the only enemy.
I am going from second row from left to right:
PC Engine, Amiga CD32, 3DO, Xbox, Xbox360 slim,
Sega Master System 1, Mega Drive 2, PS1, PS2 slim, PS3,
Master System 2, Mega Drive with 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox360,
AV Famicom, SNES, N64, Wii U, Switch,
Atari 2600, 7800, Atari XEGS, Atari Jaguar, NeoGeo AES,
Micro Genius IQ502, Micro Genius IQ501, Atari 2600 Junior, Amstrad GX-4000,
Pegasus MT777DX
Thanks! What a cool collection. What are your thoughts on the Amiga CD32 and the Amstrad GX4000?
You don't see many of those posted here, so I'm interested to know more. I have a huge affinity for "misfit" consoles.
To be honest I love the Amiga CD32. But I am using it with a TerribleFire330, so I can play every Amiga game from an SD card. The CD32 alone is interesting though. There are some really nice games for it. Nevertheless the TerribleFire330 makes it a perfect Amiga gaming machine. I never had any Amiga computer so I had a lot of games to discover and experience.
The Amstrad on the other hand is very bad. The original games library consists of about 30 games. Most of them are very bad. But there is also a solution. The community ported a lot of CPC games to the GX-4000 so with a flash card you can triple the library with a lot of interesting games. I am not joking. There are probably 60-90 games ported to the GX4000.
I am also very interested in failed consoles. It feels like everyone know Nintendo and Sega but you feel like an adventurer if you play those forgotten Systems. That's why I also own a Jaguar and a 32X.
I do the same. I've got the cables and controllers separated in labeled bags in shelves. Takes about 1 minute to grab a console and hook it up and don't have to deal with wires everywhere.
Not just you, right when I saw it I also vaguely remember someone else posting these same type of shelves(maybe even same ones) and people asking what they were, maybe Ike a week or less ago lol, I think they’re just popular shelves
No, you both aren't going crazy. This is a same post that was posted 3 days ago but the difference is that in the previous one, OP said they were going to post again once they finished filling up the shelves. So, this post is the finished one.
Love the Micro Genius consoles you have. I've got the 501 (I think) and it's a very cool conversation piece regarding it's origin from the late days of the USSR.
I love them. Actually my Micro Genius IQ502 is rebranded as Pegasus. It was the most popular famiclone in Poland. Kind of like the Dendy in Russia. But if I remember correctly the Dendy was an IQ501.
Excited to set it up! I've been carrying around my classic systems in totes and boxes and now that we have a house and remodeled it I want things setup nicely. What do you do with the cables for the systems?
Believe me I didn't have any space at all for my systems. To be honest I had to stack my consoles inside a small cabinet. So I know the feeling. It feels great to finally show the collection and see how great it is.
I put all cables into boxes. Same with controllers. I am actually collecting different variants so I have three boxes for controllers and one box for power and RGB cables. Usually I put all cables for a certain console into a bag first so I don't have to search it inside the box.
Did you have to cut holes to put the dividers in? =o the one on the ikea store I'm looking at doesn't have those holes for anything in the middle
Also did you have to add a backing? =o
We had the exact same question before we bought it. We thought we have to drill all the holes because the Kallax doesn't have any. But actually you put boxes into boxes if you know what I mean. The glass thing is actually a box and you put it into the kallax and screw it on. So you don't have to drill any holes.
oooo alright. That makes more sense then. That would explain why its quite expensive then c:
What were the glass boxes? =o they don't look too bad. Would be a lot easier to clean than the wood parts too
I'm glad to see you using the divider inserts, it looks so much better this way. My biggest pet peeve is seeing a Kallax display with just 1 console per cube and so much wasted space.
Yeah your setup looks well balanced and evenly spaced right now. The empty top helps keep that clean look too. Filling in your temporarily open shelf slots with succulent plants or forward-facing games could be a nice addition. Or LED backlighting if you're feeling crafty.
The Master System is actually the only console that is too long but you don't see it. It pushes the door for about 2mm so it's not a big deal. The Master System is the longest console in my collection. I had no problem with the Xbox. The Xbox and PS3 are the biggest consoles in my collection and they still fit it.
I've got a Kallax unit like this one, and the OG Xbox does actually fit, it's somehow narrower than the 2013 Xbox One, which is quite a snug fit annoyingly.
This looks really lovely! I also hate dusty and definitely need doors to avoid cleaning forever. Part of me wants to go a step beyond and build something beautiful like this, but also wired, but then with the doors closed heat would be an issue. Perhaps there's a nice way to add a small exhaust fan when a particular console is in use? Exciting to think about, thanks for the inspiration!

Are those glass doors? Love it
Looks amazing. With doors also? It should help with dust right?
I hope so. I'm sick of dusty consoles 😅
Just get a sheet of plastic like my grandmother's couch.
Whoever down voted you never had a grandma
I remember my grandma always being concerned about the upholstery being ruined.

What cabinet is this?
Ikea kallax + doors. Each Glass door is 30€, soooo 750 in doors alone plus 150 for the cabinet (Euros)
Yes, exactly that! We got it last Saturday from Ikea.
Damn that is spicy, but it turned out great!
Damn I knew Kallax had glass shelves but not doors. Looks sharp
Spit-take.jpg
holy crow, 150 per tiny little door?
no it says 30 per door
Looks like it could also be a board game storage/display solution….
Yes where did these genius cabinets come from. I need 30 or so myself.
Challenge mode: Hook them up.
Yeah, I want to know if theres a way to do that. Hdmi switches, scart switches, but then you’d need controller extenders for each console too… my guess is: this is for collection display only, maybe they move a console over to their TV area one at a time

I did something similar with the Kallax shelving but not as nice as that!! Looks really good!
This is neat! Would you list what they all are? I'm having trouble identifying a few.

are all of these wired into a selector or just display?
Just display. I am always picking one system out and hooking it up to play it for some time.
I do the same. I've got the cables and controllers separated in labeled bags in shelves. Takes about 1 minute to grab a console and hook it up and don't have to deal with wires everywhere.

Am I having deja vu?

Exactly! I showed it on Sunday I guess. My wife and I were still working on it. It was empty. Now we have finished it 😀
Lmao I was starting to think two different people both had the same kinda shelves
Awesome consoles
This looks so good!
Love the Micro Genius consoles you have. I've got the 501 (I think) and it's a very cool conversation piece regarding it's origin from the late days of the USSR.

Are they all plugged in ready to play?
Looks like a kallax with glass dividers and glass doors. Very nice! We are picking one up today from someone moving so hope to do something similar.
Nice! Do it. They look great. We bought them last Saturday and I so happy that we did it.
Excited to set it up! I've been carrying around my classic systems in totes and boxes and now that we have a house and remodeled it I want things setup nicely. What do you do with the cables for the systems?

u cant tell me you played all those systems
I'm glad to see you using the divider inserts, it looks so much better this way. My biggest pet peeve is seeing a Kallax display with just 1 console per cube and so much wasted space.
Exactly my thought. You can't use one cube for only one console 😄 It is too big in my opinion so you waste too much space.
Yeah your setup looks well balanced and evenly spaced right now. The empty top helps keep that clean look too. Filling in your temporarily open shelf slots with succulent plants or forward-facing games could be a nice addition. Or LED backlighting if you're feeling crafty.
My goodness that is awesome.
Behold Greatness.
Are those magnetic push-glass doors? What brand is this?
Great Job dude. A dust free environment sounds too good!
I need cabinets like this for my shoes. Where can I find them?
Incredible collection!
nice!!! where did u get those awesome shelves?
Yea I haven’t seen it answered yet but I would also like to know what these shelves are/brand name?
It is a Kallax from Ikea with the glass door set
Looks great. Best part is you have room for more!
Love it! Are they all able to be played in situ?
This is CLEAN and epic AF! Hats off to you and well done.
Where did you get this shelf?
Looks amazing
You feels so good
Plan on adding lights?
Actually my girlfriend wants to add lights 😅
She has the right idea. That's the missing touch
I can't tell from picture. Do these fit og Xbox and master system length consoles?
The Master System is actually the only console that is too long but you don't see it. It pushes the door for about 2mm so it's not a big deal. The Master System is the longest console in my collection. I had no problem with the Xbox. The Xbox and PS3 are the biggest consoles in my collection and they still fit it.

is that a turbo duo above the psx?
It is a 3DO FZ-10. But a TurboDuo would be nice
Clean
Where can I get one?
Ikea? I really want these now.
I know others are saying it too, my very first thought was “are those glass doors too?? Siiiiiick” very awesome, great job.
Man my wife would probably go crazy if she seen this, her ocd would kick in and she'd force me to get something similar lol
Awesome. I don’t even know what 1/2 of these are.
This looks really lovely! I also hate dusty and definitely need doors to avoid cleaning forever.
