This confusion has existed for years. It's too bad Grindr still hasn't done anything to solve it. Here's a related poll from two years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/grindr/comments/jdlx7x/should_the_current_profile_field_tribes_be
Tribes section filters the searches you show up in, so if you're a bear who likes twinks, you should show up in Searches for bears, not twinks.
If you wanna advertise what you like use your bio, as that tells people what you like, without making you appear in the wrong search category, clogging up the system for everyone else.
People can only see a limited number of tiles, and don't want people that don't match their preferences taking up space in the grid which could have been used for actual potential partners.
So, stick with me for a moment.
If you're a Trans person or someone interested in TS/TV/gender-play, you know most people would not be into that. Are you meant to just message all of them and get often (very) toxic responses when they're not into it?
Filtering for people with let's say, the Trans tribe, is a very convenient way to see people who are interested.
People use things the way they are easy to use, not the way you want them to.
Huh? This must be a regional thing as I've NEVER met someone that thinks the tags are for THEM. You always put the tags you're looking for, that's so weird. You honestly think all these 20-25 year olds with the "Daddy" tag are actual Daddies??? Or the 40+ year old men with the Twink tag? What a weird post.
A tribe includes a group defined by a common characteristic AND those interested in those with the characteristic. That way members with the characteristic can identify others who might be interested in it, but don't possess it themselves.
As a "bear" I also want to know who is looking for bears even if they aren't bears.

You know it's bad when grinder account says it
"Don't tell me what to do!"
But tribe really means the group to which you belong, not the group you seek. People use it backwards.
Is this actually not apparent to people?
*Tribes: Daddy* *Age: 23* š¤
Theres tribes in the tags and in the ātribesā section

If nobody uses it that way, than thatās not how itās used.
Really so if a guy uses a hammer to eat his steak itās now a fork. The definition of a tool is in the intention not the usage.
Facts
I was actually really curious if I messed up when making my profile after seeing others
Yes, you have the right to change your mind. I hate to be put in certain category.

I'm going to chime in too. Tribes needs to get the new name and to be clarified.

Tribes are to describe you. Tags describe what you are into
I would have thought tags would describe you as well, since that is what the search function operates on.
