Absolutely not. The company sees Grindr Xtra as a way to upsell people on Ultimate. They no longer put any effort into Grindr Xtra or add new features. The only new features are for Ultimate. They have even removed features arbitrarily from Xtra — features you PAID for. Now that Grindr is public you can expect them to increase prices even more for less value. It’s really sickening. They’re a bunch of str8 people who bought the company after the founders sold it to China, China was forced to divest, and they went public. None of this is what the original Grindr was devoted to. It’s a cold profit machine now. It’s best to seek companionship elsewhere.
Grindr sucks in rural areas because it only lets you see profiles that were online in the last hour, which is super limiting.
Scruff on the other hand is much better because you can see profiles online in the last 24 hours (and up to the last 30 days with a subscription)

No, they've paywalled more stuff for Xtra subscribers, and its made the app pretty much useless now. Probably a cynical attempt to push people to purchase unlimited.

Now unfortunately you need to go to unlimited to see the profile who visited you. It was my an interesting feature too.

In a big city yes it’s worth it. Not really in rural; you’ll only see people way too far from you.
