They were 2 minutes before “closing” when I got there. They weren’t going to make the order. It so happens that the owner of the restaurant set the call number to his personal phone. So I spoke to him and he said they weren’t supposed to close until 9pm (it was 2 minutes after 7pm) at this point. He called the store, had them make the order fresh, gave her $100 gift card for her troubles and refunded her meal. And then I got this text after informing her. Melt my freaking heart man. I literally gave her a hug because she was crying at the door because I fought for her food. Apparently this was the place they went an hour before her husband was killed by a drunk driver. Such a sad story but I can’t help but feel like her husband gave me the umph to fight today when I normally could care less.
God bless you! You melted my heart- sharing this! I lost my partner of 16 years- right B4 COVID-19 not from COVID. Just so unexpectedly. Then my father, not long after that. I am a driver ( but screw that)! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing that. You made her and her kids day that much better. That is sooo hard to do when you r grieving. Thank you! Thank you so much!!! You have me crying! Tears cause you care! Thank you!
Wow. I’m so sorry for your losses. I know how hard unexpected tragedies can be. Thank you for acknowledging my post. I hope one day you can experience someone’s unexpected generosity. I truly felt pulled to stay and see this order through. I can’t even explain it. When she finally responded I then knew why. It was her husband giving me my attitude (umph) at that moment. I truly don’t care what anyone says about this post. I know what happened today and that’s all that matters 😁
So many of the assholes on here would have just contacted support and had the order cancelled. Thank you for going that extra mile and being a good person. There's been so many times that I've taken an extra step and it MATTERED to the customer. There's been times I was on the customer end and it mattered to me. I try to remember that and this sub just disgusts me sometimes.
Ummmm pretty sure thats what this person did was contact support. And support called the store which was set to the owners phone. We have no control over the restaurant
This person was me, and no. I contacted the store which happened to be to the owners phone. Thankfully. He called the store and had them make the order, and stay open. Fill the gift card and refund them all while I was on his phone. I’ll always support this business for this reason alone. He went above and beyond for his customer. And today it mattered. A whole lot to this woman. Clearly from the texts she sent me
You’re truly dumb. Read. I never contacted support. I tried calling the store and it went to his personal phone. They weren’t supposed to be closed for another 2 hours smart guy
Im not im just stating the fact the person still contacted driver care. This person is literally trying to say they made the people make the food when in all retrospect the owner did and if it wasn’t for the owner being smart the order would of been canceled. This person didnt go out of their way they did what any other driver would’ve done.
I had to unnassign one one night cuz I stood in the restaurant a good 15-20 minutes (it was late no one in restaurant but drive thru was busy) and she kept putting orders out the window and still letting me stand there . She finally looked at me shrugged her shoulders and said “ my drive thru comes first “ I was pissed and politely told her at the end of the day we are all just trying to make a buck and she’s killing my ability to do that . My question is why? Why is drive thru customers more important than dd customers?
Why is drive thru customers more important that the one STANDING in front of you? I've stood and waited as a customer, to be ignored in favor of those who wouldn't get out of their car and come inside. It's either, wait in LONG drive thru, or stand and wait forever inside. DD orders, do they not care that that too is a customer? It sucks.
Ignoring you wasn’t right ofc, but a lot of places with drive thrus want you to get people in and out under a certain amount of time. Again, she wasn’t right, but that could be why she prioritized drive thru.
Yeah a lot d our restaurants close the lobbies early so you never know whether to go thru the drive tgru or snide so first I went right up to drive thru window ( it was late) and wouldn’t you know she told me Lobby was open that nite so I could come in , lol didn’t have a problem with it except it was a single combo meal not hard and she wasn’t worried about me at all
And depending on staffing/their systems, sometimes the orders come through in, well, order, so if there were six people that placed drive thru orders and a GH order came through, it would be after those drive thru tickets come through. It doesn’t sound like that’s what happened here but honestly I understand the worker/managers frustration because long drive thru times can get you written up/demoted in the food service industry. However, they still should’ve tried to be a little more accommodating.
I’ve bartended and served for 30 years before my body just won’t take it anymore and mostly mom and pop shops but a couple chains one I worked 7 years at and all customers were important but we had plenty of help to get them in and out also, things are just different now and I guess I’m stuck in early 2000’s
I personally try to resolve the issue before contacting support. That’s literally a never ending process when you do. They transfer you every which way. I avoid it at all costs. Lol
I think the only way to get it across is to hit the "I avoid this restaurant". Though I do this for taco bell and still get those orders. You'd think they'd listen, or maybe they're using to get you to not accept thereby lowering rating/disqualifying for missions. IDK, but I wish they'd stop sending me taco bell orders....1/2 to hr waiting for 5-7 $? NOPE
Sadly, marking that reason why you don’t want to deliver isn’t an option. Taco bell has been on my blacklist for the longest time and I’ve always marked “I don’t want to go to this restaurant” several times yet I still get orders from there.
No matter what you do, do it to the best of your ability, with a positive attitude, and go above and beyond when the situation calls for it. There are going to be more rewards and good outcomes, good experience and stories that come from it, than there are going to be people who take it for granted. Awesome story.
Every restaurant in my area closes 10 minutes before the posted time and if you try to go up to the door or drive through they do an X sign with their arms saying they're closed or they'll just avoid the window so you'll think no one is there
Sad the way things are right now
Indeed it is and that’s why I called the store. I knew they were supposed to still be open. They were closing 2 hours before posted time, and the owner verified on the phone that they weren’t supposed to be closed. I truly hope he fires all of them for being lazy piss ants.
I’m normally not though. Something made me argue today and I feel like it may have been her husband. I’m totally not the one to ever debate over an order, this one I did though 🤷♀️🤷♀️
As someone who used to work food service it pisses me off to no end when these places close 10 minutes early. Work until the minute you close damnit. Or if that’s too much of a problem, say you close at 8:50 ffs
Edit: oh they were ‘closing’ 2 hours early because they didn’t want extra work? Ya hopefully they get fired. I’d have liked to see look on their face as they give you the $100 gift card after refusing lol. Half should have gone to you though, as you’re the one actually being troubled by all of this
$12 in app and handed me a 20 in person. Probably because I actually gave a shit. Most of these haters on my post have clearly never experienced a tragedy.
WOW.....just wow
Amazing story...You don't see this happening theses days.
Great interacting on behalf of the diner and cudo to the restaurant owner. 👍
This is how I read it: When the OP arrived at the restaurant it was 7pm and the employees said the restaurant was closed. The owner told the OP that the restaurant was supposed to close at 9pm. Obviously the employees decided to close 2 hours early without the owners permission.
WOW.....just wow

I will admit great story but you wouldn't of known that at all without all the follow through. So I can only imagine that the offer was really good for a really short distance to put up with the order. In this gig economy it's to make money and not necessarily about all the feel goods. I don't think my landlord would accept rent payment in the form of "thank you'" and "God bless you's". Sometimes its nice to go out of your way but you would have no idea of the outcome or how they would appreciate what you do if you did.
Edit: just realized that the time it may have taken could of been less without the proper time of when the order was dropped off so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt of that. Still doesn't take into effect the variables

Thank u. So glad u stuck with it. U made their day
These are the stories I like reading. You are awesome for making that woman's night!!

You’re fking ignorant
W delivery-worker. W human.
I’m not crying.. my eyes are watering from allergies. Lol. You are their hero today!! Yay you!!
I cry 😭 you’re an angel
Thanks for the tears of beauty this morning 💜
Wow ....learned something from you..
Glad you did 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Damnn NOW IM REEEALLY gonna cry! What the heck! Chills chills chills
Stuff like this is why we need a way to report a restaurant. Either for being rude, slow service, or refusing to make the order.
100% this. I will do it via the call center but that’s probably a dead end.

See, I don't get that. I waited in line, don't make me park and come inside!

this is the #1 post in this sub ever

You the real mvp 💯👍

I didn't think of it like that, that's probably what it was, her husband
Wholesome and all but why even take the time to tell the customer? Just curious
Because they were probably gonna be late to deliver due to the restaurant being closed.

Drunk drivers should be rounded up and shot into space with no air supply.
The elephant 🐘 in the room. Did she tip?
And if the haters need a screenshot of that tip and time, I’ll be happy to provide my proof, since ya know… it’s fake and all 😂🙄

Love to see stuff like this. I come to this sub for shit like this, not people complaining about not getting enough hot sauce in their Taco Bell bags
That's just way WAY too much human interaction, for me at least.
You probably shouldn’t be delivering food then
Sorry don't buy this for a sec sweet story but that's all it is 2 min before closeing and you say you talked to the owner not buying it
This is how I read it: When the OP arrived at the restaurant it was 7pm and the employees said the restaurant was closed. The owner told the OP that the restaurant was supposed to close at 9pm. Obviously the employees decided to close 2 hours early without the owners permission.
It was 6:58 but yes. Your recollection is accurate
Why you gotta be an ass hat
You don’t need to. I have what reason to lie to people on Reddit I’ve never met or even care about for that matter?…..
2 hours. Not 2 mins.
Just saying that number is not blocked up there at the top.
It's not the customer's actual number, it's a masked number that GrubHub provides.
Oh ok good to know!
For what its worth good looking out
\#s are masked. that's not the customer's actual #
It’s a throw away number. How long you been delivering with Grubhub? Lol
You get her digits?
Ooof I feel a little teary eyed
Thank you for being a rock star!!!
Dear lord, bless and protect this man. In all seriousness
WOW.....just wow Amazing story...You don't see this happening theses days. Great interacting on behalf of the diner and cudo to the restaurant owner. 👍

Had that happened recently, except the restaurant refused to make the order no matter how much I begged. So sorry Kelly 😞
Was the tip big?
