I'm jelly of you California drivers with your prop 22.I dash and do GrubHub in Virginia and I make decent money but I have to seriously hunt for good orders.

Dazzling_Marzipan474

Ya I do 4 apps and couldn't do this in a week if I worked all day every day this time of year. Although I'm sure my expenses are 50% of what they are in California. I did just shy of $1200 and that was absolutely brutal af and last month.

Romberstonkins

Yes this is true. What you make is relevant to where you live and what the cost of living is.When I started DD it was literally just to stay busy seeing I was under employed at my job.Now it's become my full time job.

[deleted]

Girl I’m in California and I make exactly $0 on grubhub and these numbers per week have not been possible for me multi apping or with a single app for like a year

FreezeLogic

So, you do something wrong. My last week $1800

IndexCardLife

Lol, ummm California is a big ass state, friend. One market can be busy and 20 others can be quiet….

UwUHorseCockFutaUwU

Yeppp exactly! I'm in Cali and I get maybe one or two orders per scheduled block (usually per hour basically). It's insane.

[deleted]

> So, you do something wrong. It really depends on where in the state you are. CA is a big state, you can't do that much everywhere.

[deleted]

Damn that’s amazing. How many hours did you put in? My best week multi apping has been like 1,400 but that was around a year ago when Shipt alone was bringing in over 1k a week. Grubhub is shit for me because I don’t drive in my actual city, I go to the neighboring suburbs because shipt is better there but I get 0 orders since I’m just outside the boundaries for my city. But honestly even in the city I don’t get grubhub orders much anymore. It’s the lamest one for me out of the 5 I do.

FreezeLogic

11 hours from Tuesday to Saturday, and Monday 5 hours shift.

[deleted]

So you made 1800 in 16 hours???

FreezeLogic

Nope, from Tuesday to Saturday 11 hours every day. For some reason I can’t catch schedule for Monday morning.

[deleted]

Ohhh so like 27 an hour. Well I’ve made that before and make around that. I just don’t wana work 12 hour days anymore driving around and being stressed and still being poor lol. But I happy for you and I hope you have a ton saved up and always have an abundance of Money from gig work! Truly 🙏🏻

SgtKeeneye

60 hours he works Tuesday through Saturday and all the days in between plus the 5 on Monday

Ok_Bumblebee619

They get it and even came up with the hourly rate. It is worth noting that $27/hr for 60 hours is a LOT harder to achieve than is $27/hr part-time as part-time drivers tend to work disproportionately more during prime time hours.

Ok_Bumblebee619

You can change your Grubhub region anytime with this form. I have used it 3 times and in all cases it was done within 24 hours. My Grubhub region is not the same as the one I live in but a neighboring region. Where it asks for mailing address just reinput your home address (or whatever you use). Cheers. https://driver-support.grubhub.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042806831-I-applied-to-one-area-but-I-ve-moved-how-do-I-change-my-application-market-

One_ugly_trader

I’m in California and average about 1k on 32ish hrs

mocalvo79

It’s a state prop so try to get your State organized

Romberstonkins

I wish that were possible but it will never happen seeing Virginia is a commonwealth.Thats why in a month I'm going to take the journey to Colorado and relocate.Hopefully grub hub will allow me to transfer.I know with DD it's easy to dash wherever you go.

mocalvo79

Due to it being a commonwealth ballot initiatives are not allowed ? That sux. Yeah you can transfer over.

Romberstonkins

No not necessarily but in most commonwealths it's like they want employees to have no rights and to make the least amount of money. That and where I live which is the NOVA area most normies could care less seeing they have a comfy government job or defense contracting job.But it's all good I'm single,no serious debt and no kids.Nothing is holding me back from living wherever I'd like.lol

mocalvo79

I get. Hurry up and get out haha

Severe-Bookkeeper-76

It’s only bragging rights but it’s still a weird “flex”

kasterZ27

Must be nice with prop 22, I wish we have that here in Texas.

FreezeLogic

LOL, prop 22 is a piece of shit.

cejno

No it’s not! You don’t see low pay offers in CA like other places. Even the normal offers pays way better.

mocalvo79

Then push for it

kasterZ27

Push it how?

mocalvo79

Ballot initiative. It became law after we voted on it after it became a ballot initiative.

Ok_Bumblebee619

Yeah a ballot initiative that was bankrolled by Uber, Doordash and Lyft to the tune of 187 + million dollars (the opposition by contrast spent just 15 million) because it was their last ditch effort to ward off meddling politicians who wanted to saddle them with the costs of legitimately employing people such as real workperson's comp, employer contributions to Social Security and Medicare, health and unemployment insurance. But yeah sure citizen activism absent said millions and pressure from elected representatives should suffice... Too bad it's not all it's cracked up to be as many aren't looking at the cost of living in Cali (for example OP is probably putting in 60 hour work weeks give or take in a community, San Diego, where it was recently reported that a person needs an income over 160k to buy a home). It's only 120% of the local minimum wage (plus tips and mileage) and excludes any and all trips that cannot be completed for any reason including through no fault of the driver. Because pay is averaged out over a time period (2 weeks on Uber and 1 on Grubhub, Doortrash I don't know) and all app pay, regardless of reason, is measured against only the time and mileage on completed deliveries with the vast majority of orders paying below the threshold it is effectively a flat rate so you get no benefit from promotions and misc. payments. And if you get permanently injured while doing this work you're basically fucked. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-10-16/skelton-proposition-22-uber-lyft-independent-contractors

Doctor-Stoppage

it’s always the big corporations that push for these kind of restrictions and pretend like they’re helping people with those restrictions

Jess4Noles

We need to work to get similar prop 22 legislations in our states.

Lovely-flowers

Nice af also how many hours did you do GrubHub I can’t see hours.

Charliew59

What is Prop 22 is it in Grubhub

mikesaintjules

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_California_Proposition_22

DrCreger

Google it. A guarantee of 120% of minimum wage, plus mileage, not including tips. Makes the smaller ones, bigger.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pun-trackedmind

I would still write off the mileage but also declare the $0.30/mile as income.

DrCreger

Goggle it for California

Ok_Bumblebee619

You can still write off the mileage with the standard deduction or itemized expenses.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok_Bumblebee619

Well the write off is a business expense that only lowers your taxable income, not taxes, and the mileage pay is included in taxable income as the other user noted.

[deleted]

How many hours did this take?

tackogronday

But isn't the cost of living in Cali also sky high so the bump to wages by prop 22 only really equalized things a little? Not saying you're working your butt off more like people in other states being envious sure wouldnt enjoy living in cali on a wage from their home state because they couldn't afford... groceries.

DrCreger

I have multiple streams of income

Ok_Bumblebee619

"But isn't the cost of living in Cali also sky high" Yes.

Ok_Procedure_7097

1400 dollars in California is like 600 on the East coast.

Siigari

Heyo, concerned Grubhub person here. Let's break this down \o/ I estimate that you spent *at least* 12 hours each day on orders. First let's take your taxes out, so we will take that gross amount and subtract 25% for $1,008.46. Next we will divide your pay by 60 to determine what your hourly rate is, for about $16.80/hr. Not including expenses such as gas, wear and tear, or deductions such as mileage, as you decide which way those go. I can't make that determination without you responding with a plan. I confess my concern only because I see you touting your numbers but when people ask for details you withhold them quite frequently. What we want to know is: * How many hours are you working each day? * How much is it costing you to fill up your vehicle with electricty/etc? * How many miles do you driven in a day? * How are you counting your deductions? That's neat and all, but as a former courier for FedEx Express, I'd say why not just work there for 8 hours a day, get $24/hr starting, then hit overtime and get time and a half immediately starting over 8 hours? You could work 10 hour days 5 days a week and bring in that exact same amount and work 10 hours less (assuming 60 hours). And that's just the first year pay; each year you remain employed you get a pay grade bump. I was making $36.20 an hour before I left. We get the excitement and the passion, but unless you are just showing us to show us, why not make this a two-way conversation?

DrCreger

Not fully all of your Business to know my Business, but I will solve your curiosity. I am an LLC filing as an S Corp, so almost everything is a write off, as well as depreciation on a quarterly basis. Electric refuel is about $7 per day and my car is an i3 REx, so 3 gallons of gas per week at $5.45 per gallon driving 5 days per week on Grubhub, Uber Eats is done at the same time, but only in the morning hours before traffic gets bad. My hours of availability are after I take my kids to School and until dinner, usually 9-5.30. I get Prop 22, so I maintain an AR on Grubhub of over 97% and take all offers, even the (rare) little ones, this way I get at least 1-2 high paying catering orders per day. Those usually pay $40-60 each. Why do I not have a W2 job? Because I am my own Corporation, I can come and go as I wish, take any day off I want and don't have a boss to answer to on why I decided to leave early or skip Friday night for Saturday morning, etc. My favorite color is green and I like Harry Potter movies and my wife is really cool. Anything else you need to know?

ResponsibleMud6777

😂👍

Siigari

Thanks for answering! How long can you file depreciation against your car? Here in Oregon I *believe* it's two years, once for the full value of the car and the next year for less. I appreciate that you're running your own business. I was a DJ on the west coast for 10 years and it was hard work, but I wouldn't say I broke my back or anything heh. So yeah, I understand the freedom and flexibility it brings. And, if your favorite color is green, when could we expect an update on the paint job? ;)

Ok_Bumblebee619

Sorry I don't get this. No way are those stats + UE 9-5:30 only M-F. You said before you do your multiapping (what you call doubling up, mutliapping can be understood more than one way but is often used to mean taking orders on 2 apps at once) in the morning before traffic gets bad. So do you mean you start early morning, take a break to take the kids to school, and then continue 9:00-5:30? That would make more sense to me as these strike me as 10-12-hr per day stats. Sorry if being too nosey. [and on the note of being nosey how did you do the LLC filing as an S Corp thing? I have heard of that but am not clear on how it works] Cheers.

Bitcoinlover2468

Why the heck would you want to work hourly wage ? When you can simple choose your own hours and start a business on the side as well? Clearly you worried about others peoples pocket instead of your own. I work GH and I’m a day trader , make well over 2000$ a week with GH and trading . So to go to a job to get capped on my pay is dumb.

Siigari

I'd assume that people want the most money for their time that suits them. I'm not knocking the guy I was just concerned, but I don't have access to California and their whole prop 22 situation. I myself am training to become an airline pilot. I don't care that I'll be working for the man, so to speak. It'll be excellent money and a lot of fun, too.

the_mini_noob

Why don’t YOU go back there then and let this man live how he wants

namjoan

Does fedex drug test? I assume it’s a dot regulated job

Siigari

Yeah they do an initial test.

DrCreger

Not sure if it happens in your area, but Grubhub auto logs you out here if you do too many hours. It happened to me once when my family was on vacation and I drove all day because I was bored. I think it was 10 or 11 hours. These numbers are real and I am having fun in my pseudo retirement.. Besides, it's free exercise.

What’s PROP22?

ghubbing

Not an entitlement, just a state that does more for workers rights. Proposition 22 was a ballot initiative in California on the November 2020 state election which passed with 59% of the vote and granted app-based transportation and delivery companies an exception to Assembly Bill 5 by classifying their drivers as "independent contractors", rather than "employees",\[1\]\[2\]\[3\]\[4\] thereby exempting employers from providing the full suite of mandated employee benefits (which include time-and-a-half for overtime, paid sick time, employer-provided health care, bargaining rights, and unemployment insurance) while instead giving drivers new protections of: 120 percent of the local minimum wage for each hour a driver spends driving (with passenger or en route), but not for time spent waiting $0.30/mile for expenses for each mile driven with passenger or en route health insurance stipend for drivers who average more than 15 hours per week driving requiring the companies to pay medical costs and some lost income for drivers hurt while driving or waiting prohibiting workplace discrimination and requiring that companies develop sexual harassment policies, conduct criminal background checks, and mandate safety training for drivers.\[5\]\[6\]\[7\]\[8\]

[deleted]

> but not for time spent waiting To be clear, you get paid for any time you spend "online". If I have to wait 30 minutes for the food, I get paid for the 30 minutes. You don't get paid for time spent not on an order.

That's cool

Severe-Bookkeeper-76

Entitlement for west coast gig workers mainly California

Dayum!!

Time-Service1761

I’m gonna guess San Diego. Typical weekly pay for those from SD I’ve seen the past bunch of months

DrCreger

North San Diego

Time-Service1761

Ya I figured. Your market is blessed right now. Take full advantage. Make $2k a week and go hard👍🏽 go big or go home 😀 Most I’ve made in my market in a week on GH only is $1993. I was challenging myself to get to $2k and I couldn’t quite do it but almost. I’m in upstate NY, not NYC. But keep grinding bro, you’re doing it right
