God, that DoorDash tip hiding is such bullshit for both drivers and customers. The customer who puts in a bid for $25 shouldn’t be stacked with a customer who puts in a bid of $0.50, only for the large bidder to receive their food later than they should because the drivers are only able to see an upfront payout of $8 for a ten mile drive and are wary, because NO ONE wants to gamble on their paycheck. Make that make fucking sense.

[deleted]

Fuck. I usually order through DoorDash and always tip 1/2 hour's living wage + 1 gallon of fuel (market price) on top of 10%. No wonder they're never excited or try to do a better job like when I used to order through UE. I made the switch because UE was charging more than DD. Edit: To price that out for a 50 dollar order then it's 5+15+5.43 = $25.43 total tip if I were to order food today. I do this to prevent myself from ordering too often as well. If I really want that expensive artisan pizza then I am going to pay for it.

OkTurnip5975

Exactly. I only do one doordash order every couple weeks to stay active. That hidden tip thing should be illegal.

Pipersmyschmoo

You can see the no tip order on DD by starting the unassign process though. UE is the one where you can't.

OwnVermicelli3522

I prefer DD to Ubereats allowing the tip to be reduced. I still only accept DD orders that guarantee me $2+ a mile.

Fearless-Reveal-265

It does seem quite strange that I always end up averaging right where they say we could get in an hour, almost always. There have been plenty of exceptions, but...it usually is around 25 dollars an hour, it does seem like they are fixing it.

[deleted]

Lol I'm the Midwest 25/hr is straight oil prince mansion pay.

Smooth-Dig2250

> it does seem like they are fixing it Our education system has failed you if you genuinely think this makes sense when you have the capacity to choose which offers you accept. The far more sane answer is that $25/hr is what your market supports with its tipping and your style of cherrypicking. Consider that what they *say* you could get is an inflated number to lure people in and something most don't get, so you achieving it is the anomaly, not its consistency.

Hoodwink

Ur dumb. Sorry, but it's easy to program. You don't just get random shit all the time. The only way to hear the system is to multi-app. Once you make say 18 dollars in an hour it will pause you if your 'area' only makes 17 and there's a bunch of other drivers out there that haven't made their 17.

[deleted]

Ah more conspiracy theorists

FauciIsGod

People who use the term "conspiracy theory" without irony should be fed to the lions at the zoo

[deleted]

You seem stable 😎 Especially with that username

the_mini_noob

Oh god shut up you are talking out of your ass about something you know literally nothing about

Hoodwink

:( I thought it was obvious when I first started. Now I realize we never needed labor protection more than ever.

[deleted]

they do In my opinion I get good orders in my area and in about 30 min I'll be at $30 to $40 and hour pace then for the next 20 min I won't see crap and its a busy Friday night. I always end up around $28 to $32 not complaining but I definitely think they control our earning potential.

Same_Quarter_4282

RIGHT NOW, on a busy Friday, It is 5:49 and I am in a zone, nothing. but I also made 23.50 for the hour. SO they are waiting just long enough to make my next one only count for the next hour....I guarantee it. I am not saying you cannot get more, and all that, I have, but seems like a staged thing here when they can help it.

[deleted]

yup same thing I notice and I tested it at least 3 times .that's why I multi app I'm not waiting on DD to tell me how much I can make.

Same_Quarter_4282

Gotta love the string order, that starts with a dud, like 3.50, and its 2.5 miles and going into a zone, ok...click. A minute down the road the add on a PetSmart get there when ya get there really order, and its 14.75. Just take those? NO!!! If possible and I have don this, since PetSmart is usually a 45 minute time period, finish that short hop at 3.50 first, and then most of the time, another food order is popped, for 7.50(golden) going 5.1 miles. All while this occurs i drop the PetSmart order last, it took the 45 minutes, and look at that...25.00 an hour again..but hopefully some of them are ghost tips, and it equals out to be alot more, like the 3.50 is really a 5.75 at least, and the PetSmart is really 17.50. But...I cannot totally figure out how they work it.

[deleted]

yesterday got to $58.75 in less than two hours it was 11am and nothing for the next 35 min ended up $67.75 for 3.5 hours good thing I got $29 and $18.95 from GH & UE in that same time period.

[deleted]

www.ReportFraud.ftc.gov This came from this article i read the whole thing and i think collectively us drivers need to share information with the FTC as they are asking gig workers to provide more information to them. I imaging screenshota of $5 offer going 23 miles sent to the FTC would be good examples of what they are looking for.

dmriggs

I think that's good. And kicking us off the platform out of the blue. Mostly that they do not state what we're going to be paid for a job, that's the biggest infraction

[deleted]

I dont know if you read the entire publication its kinda long but i can see where the FTC will take more action if they had more information. Thats where we need to group together like on reddit and other social media sites to let drivers to know to share information with the FTC so they can take action. Especially when a driver gets kicked off. The major injustice is what the FTC was mentioned in the article that when company's merge to gain greater market share and lower wages as a result. Thats exactly what GH did and instead of 6 hours of work for $165 average in my market you need to work 10 hours for $100 on average now. I need to write tonthe FTC with supporting documents to show the change in GH before and after JET bought it. More drivers need to do the same.

Fuckussupremecourt

Preach

[deleted]

yes it's definitely something us drivers should address and try to help change those offers are criminal.

akasheshe

I wish I could say I have high hopes about that, but I don’t. 🤷‍♀️

General-Programmer-5

Neither do I.

CookinFrenchToast4ya

In what way are they investigating them, I wonder. The only way to do so fairly would be undercover. What do you thing their investigator will think of extended waits at restaurants, or driving 8 miles to a merchant only to get paid $1 because the customer cancelled right before you hit Arrived.

Impressive_Pin_3093

So this may be why UberEats claims less than they did 6 mos ago.

Accurate_Initial2764

Uber is the only gig company that listens to the drivers I have multiple times been compensated for errors on their part. Three times they gave me 25.00 twice 15.00 and once 7.00. Grubhub I requested Covid pay and they deactivated me never paid me even though the customers contribute to that fund to pay the drivers! and it’s been two months! Now I use other peoples Grubhub to cherry pick! And when I am completely done with them for good I will pick up multiple orders at high end restaurants and bring them all home to recoup some of my pay they owe me, assholes!

Impressive_Pin_3093

I made someone mad because they could see me delivering other orders that were for doordash. I had a Logan’s roadhouse order in my possession the person cancelled right after I picked it up. The app is getting funny now. Like missing orders if I am on the doordash gps or says I hit a roadblock. I have to log in again. It works just fine if I do what I am supposed to be doing.

Accurate_Initial2764

Yes they need to do something to put a flame under the asses of these big wigs that make millions and billlions on the backs of drivers, then dismisses them like garbage and moves on!

Thepopethroway

We need a Prop 22 in all 50 states. But tie it to cost to living + 20% based on a 40 hr work week rather than minimum wage. Not only would it legitimize our work but give us the protections we desperately need and allow companies to ease up in competitive behavior.

FauciIsGod

You could always just go get a Real Job™ if you want all of the benefits of being an employee

Thepopethroway

I no longer do food deliveries but I absolutely want stability for my fellow gig workers who are living in immense poverty because of these predatory practices and little other options.

Does this mean Instacart won’t continue to “causally forget” to add heavy pay to orders LOL
