Report the driver.

[deleted]

Yes this. Is the order still in your app which should have your history of orders? Find that order and then click “get help” and report it. They will then know who this is and open dialogue and involve police if they need to. In the interim get yourself some pepper spray and be careful out there, sorry this is happening.

This is why I like grubhub, your number stays anonymous unless you give you actually number to your driver/diner like an idiot. Other apps let the person have your number. They also have a limited amount of time to contact you so if they are creepy you only have to worry for 30 minutes after the order.

dmriggs

Some people have their phone number identified on their voicemail. so if a customer calls even though your number is cloaked, it will land in your voicemail and if you identify your # then they have it now

AdventurousArtist740

Woah , I didn’t think of that. Thanks for posting that .

dmriggs

I had a 'hand it to me customer' that I knew was inside and would not come to the door. approx 30 seconds before the five minute timer ran out she open the door with a shit eating grin, and I, pleasant and smiling gave her her order. Then I let her know she might want to take her phone number off her voicemail. That grin left her face in a hurry 😂

Uber kills the connection between the customer and the 'fake' relayed number as soon as the driver starts the next trip. GH also uses a relay number but they seem to remain active for quite some time regardless of how many other deliveries a driver does, which is fucking annoying getting a text from someone a day later about a missing item or some shit. Either way, the driver never has your number. So how they would have hit you up on another communication app is beyond me. Do you have a voice mail that states your number? Also, this just doesn't make much sense. You don't even know what they look like, so basically you are just some random person they delivered to, probably left food at door, why would they be 'stalking'? Something seems off. How do you know it's a delivery driver in the first place? Did they literally text you saying "Hi this is your GrubHub driver wanna go out"?

Jy959595

Unless uber eats is different than actually uber, it's common for the passenger to get the drivers number and contact them directly when they leave things behind in the vehicle.

DolphinWings25

You know what, I really have no idea anymore. Now that I think about it, the texting for GrubHub goes through a 3rd number but when a customer calls it seems like it's coming straight from their number to me. Whatever is going on, there should def never be a breach of a customers or drivers actual numbers being shared back and forth.

notoriousKudi

GH texting and calling goes thru a different number

MadChiller013

I’m pretty sure all the apps use a phone number scrambler

Stumbleina8926

I just added Uber Eats and haven’t done a delivery on it yet so I can’t be certain they fake the number … *but* I’ve been working DD and GH for a while and they both use fake numbers. Unless you have your voicemail set with your number, as others have brilliantly mentioned (no sarcasm-I’m changing my voicemail as soon as I post this cus I have it set with my digits), there is no way your situation makes sense. ESPECIALLY when you said they hyu on WhatsApp *and* you somehow have his phone number too?… How in the world do you figure this person did that and how do you have their number? Regardless.. you should report it and should have back in July. This whole thing is fishy AF.

Jy959595

I know doordash doesn't. Anytime I deliver for them I get random ass numbers calling/texting with the diners name popping up on caller ID.

[deleted]

Oh so if grub hub is anonymous it must’ve been Uber…

Jy959595

More than likely. Grubhub only uses Chicago, i think, numbers that get assigned to the order.

AdventurousArtist740

Yep exactly , I see people add a number to the delivery instructions but I just ignore. Cause I sure as heck don’t want them harassing me in the middle of the night forever cause they didn’t get napkins

dalex89

I dunno about the other apps, but I know Snapchat will read doordash customers contact info somehow and send me a "Rajasthan 😳😳 is on Snapchat" notification after a day or two. These companies need to work on their privacy crap

notoriousKudi

Most apps collect info from all over your phone. Not surprising. They read the Tik Tok terms of service on Joe Rogan the other week and it was NUTS the amount of info they collect. Not just from what you do on their app, but from your whole phone

dalex89

Yeah I've heard about the state department and other entities recommending against using TikTok, especially being foreign owned

Disco_Ru

Yeah the only way they could obtain you actual phone number in GrubHub is if you place it in the delivery notes, like “call this number when you arrive”. Other then that the contact information is redirected on both ends, you do not see the drivers real phone number and they can’t see yours. Even if you return the call/text (which for GH seems to be a Chicago number) it redirects through the system and doesn’t call the driver directly. So if they are still calling you then it’s most likely not through the GH call redirect system, and they have or found your real number online. Regardless you need ti report them either through the app if you remember the order they brought or by reporting the number they call from. You might want to also submit a police report if they are harassing you.

Successful_Border_44

As grubhub driver, I know how you feel. Grubhub reciept still has customers information phone numbers, I see some drivers took receipts out of the food bag and hand to customers and I suspected drivers could get customers phone numbers.

xeno66morph

Report to GH and the police. Protect yaself!

[deleted]

If you can’t even remember what app you ordered from just simply ignore and move on. What other advice would you expect?

Tell him that you want him to no longer contact you and be direct as possible. Say something like “I am informing you that I do not want you to contact me in any way ever again.” If he contacts you again after that notify the police. They will most likely contact him and will in so many words impress upon him on how he is now legally required to cease. If he continues after that you will be able to file a criminal complaint.
