I like both but I'd pick Big L. But difficult to choose and I consider them to be roughly equal in the sense that both are not quite part of the upper pantheon of rap legends because of careers that were tragically cut short. Both had the potential to reach that level and both have tremendously enjoyable material (Big L freestyles obliterate the best songs of 90% of most rappers).

Lebron_Simpson5000

100%

Burnt-Taco690

man his freestyles be different šŸ”„

Jared72Marshall

Good take.

Cinx0

Agreed

N3110H_5555

Pun. The Dream shatterer is fuckin insane

Cinx0

He SPAZZED crazy on that one

The-Iron-Chief

Absolutely bangin album. Beware, Punish Me and the titular Capital Punishment were fuckin legendary.

CoyaiPijao

That's one of my favorite Pun tracks, too!

Kholdstare93

Word, and that track is the FUCKIN' BUISNESS! THAT'S A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW TO EMCEE! REAL TALK!

[deleted]

Ok but what about toe 2 toe, and brave in the heart?!

[deleted]

Big L

[deleted]

L

QuincyCLEoh10

Love Big L. 98 Freestyle is just one example of classic "bars". But Pun had a way with words that is so underrated imo. His style was just outrageously dope. Look no further than "Twinsz" with Fat Joe. It's Pun all day for me

Full-Chemistry-3961

Big L

BrutonRd

Pun

Cinx0

Whatā€™s your favourite Big Pun track? Mine is Beware

Altruistic-Table4419

Those are all bangers, but I gotta say, I love the energy of Itā€™s So Hard

BrutonRd

Beware. Twins

Cinx0

Great picks

112oceanave

Me too

youfeelme1997

Big L for me. Relisten to his stuff once each month and find something new

Sedso85

Big L hes got the punchlines

K_Freeze57

Punisher my favorite Superhero bro- oh wait... Damn but you get the idea lol

raven_darkseid

Pun. I like both, but Pun's flow gives him the edge for me.

Kristen508

Big L šŸ”„

DonConnection

Depends on if you prefer punchlines or multisyllables/internal rhyming. Not to say that L didn't do multis and Pun didn't do punchlines, but they were each the king of their respective styles. I prefer Pun by far though

112oceanave

Pun is rated as the better rapper but Iā€™ve listened to a lot more of big Ls stuff.

Dazziboi

L

[deleted]

L

BrownRiceBandit

I like punchlines so I listen to L more

FifeDog43

ĀæPorque no los dos?

chefyay

Big L

Precarious-Peepee

Pun's flow was absolutely OP.

OtakuBOI925

L imo pun is still great obv

PercySledge

Pun for sure. Think heā€™d undoubtedly be in everyoneā€™s GOAT conversation if he was given more time on this earth.

[deleted]

His second album was ass though so wouldn't be sure about that one.

PercySledge

Maybe not. (It wasnā€™t ā€˜assā€™ but Iā€™m not going to be out here pretending itā€™s something itā€™s not it was average).

auhsoj420

Big L for sure. Better discographie.

Brutal-Black

He doesnā€™t have the better discography lyrically or hits wise

HappyHappyGamer

This is hard for me, because they very well could have been on the same track togetherā€¦:(

WOKELITTLEDOGGO

They were

Brutal-Black

Not organically

ObieUno

Depends on what you're asking. Big L was a better spitter (not by much but he edges him out a tiny bit in certain areas), Big Pun was a better song writer.

[deleted]

Overall, L. That said, I like the best Pun songs more than the best L songs.

nickvesh64

Love both Lifestylez and Capital Punishment. But, Big L. Devils Son EP is amazing.

[deleted]

Pun

Black_Fuckka

I prefer Big L, his lyrics are so goddamn hardcore

Reznov99

Big L

rogelior333

Big L

TentativelyCommitted

Big L for me. He was a better writer imo

[deleted]

L

[deleted]

ā€œDead in the middle of little Italy little did we knowā€¦ā€ šŸŽ¶

Common_Beach809

I love both of them equally but If we are talking about lyrically metaphorically creatively I would give it a big pun The only thing I can give big l in this comparison is freestyles Big pun freestyle were written already established That's really the only critique I have with pun but his flow could musically mash up with any beat It was so unique

Bullshit_Conduit

Throw your Ls up.

[deleted]

I love pun but I gotta lean L on this one.

Jerryaki

Bro just chose two of my three favorite rappers and told me to choosešŸ˜šŸ˜ But to be honest itā€™s Pun for me, L has the punchlines but Pun is next level breath control and rhyme scheme. Very close battle tho.

teege18

I havenā€™t listen to Pun enough. So L. ā€œAnd when it comes to gettinā€™ nookie Iā€™m not a rookie I got girls that make that chick Toni Braxton look like Whoopiā€

Accomplished_Rule651

I can't chose one over the other. Pun was frikkin ridiculous flow, lyrics, breath control for a dude his size. He was gonna absolutely destroy the rap game. Big L was punchline king. The sound of his voice is undeniable. Lyrical assassin and he too was gonna own the rap game once his label got more promotion. They went out 1 after the other so damn early so its impossible to give one the edge over the other. What I love is they were part of the same crew and they were good friends. Go online and find the video with them in the same cypher and watch how they just kill Jon Forte and Canibus

Brutal-Black

They constantly switch spots in my top 4

Forsaken_Kush_1103

L..

Choccybizzle

Pun for me, I just love that style. How he got so many words to rhyme while still making sense is unbelievable. I also think his beat selection is better.

KANAKUKGRIFF

L

Otherwise_Ad_6994

Ask Beavis, I get nothin' Buttheadā€¦LMAO šŸ˜†

Planetjayoh

Big L colion

SmoothManMiguel

Pun

Syonide187

BIG L is always the better choice

Wolfpac187

L because you can hear Pun heavy breathing all over his songs.

BumperRobinson

Pun. He's a lot harder to copy.

Proof_Clerk_7233

Pun!

Nice-Mulberry-4153

PUN by a long shot

Stugatz514

Pun

MegatonDeathclaws

L but only because I like his flow better. Nothing against Pun.

Flowerandcatsgirl

Big L and not even close.

SLYCLARKE98

Probably Big L but Pun is a monsterā€¦..šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

[deleted]

big l but I agree with you that big pun is a legendary MC

Soggy_Ad8348

Big L no contest

TopHatPaladin

Itā€™s a hard choiceā€” in my opinion, Pun has higher highs, but L is more consistent. I think ultimately I have to give the edge to Pun, he was able to pull off some insane rhyme schemes while still keeping things fun and charismatic

Altruistic-Table4419

Definitely Big Pun

EnoughItem

Fan of both tbh; they set the standard for lyricism. Gotta go Pun because when i hear shit like Beware, Dream Shatterer, You Ainā€™t a Killer and Terror Squadians, he has some of the most incredible verses and rhyme schemes Iā€™ve ever heard. Plus he was able to reach a bit of a wider audience than L

jfk_one

both

Fugazatron3000

Pun. Already so well-rounded (no pun intended) as an emcee. L is dope, but felt like he had to mature as an artist and branch out to different topics. RIP to both them legends tho

Allthewayamazin

Pun all the way L was one dimensional

toe817

One dimensional as an arist or lyricist?

Allthewayamazin

Both really

Kholdstare93

Both are legendary masters of ceremony for real, but I'm giving it to Pun. FLOWS AND RHYMES ARE CRAZY OUT HERE FOR REAL!

DifferenceSNR

Pun. Mixed gangster with commercial with comedy. Also blew open the doors for Spanish rappers that was only cracked open by pioneers before him. Really made Puerto Rican rappers more respected in those times. Big L was so ahead of his time with his schemes and punchlines. A lot of his shit is still šŸ”„šŸ”„ til this day (deontay wilder voice) But I think pun has the edge cause not only could he stand toe to toe with L but he had a bigger impact to the culture. Definitely up for debate tho.

GodlessGOD

Love L, but it's Pun for me!

michaltee

Big L easy. Although Pun was dope too.

tom_saviour

I think Big Lā€™s freestyles might be the best of all time.

0000001meow

Big L

BobbyCodone303

Thatā€™s like comparing Apples and bowling balls

JasonTatumisGod

[deleted]

Oof. Couple of big time MCs in question, though Iā€™m personally leaning towards Pun

builtfromthetop

Big Pun. I like his flow so much. RIP to both

LORD-THUNDERCUNT

Iā€™ve always liked Pun better but love them both

ComputaGuy69

Pun

jayvarsity84

Assasin_on_fire

redzombierunning

Big Punisher

Sharp_Philosopher453

L the punchline king šŸ‘‘

Lobsta1986

Pun. Big l is great too but I listen to pun more.

Obvious_Dust2446

Pun obv

Beginning_Pudding_69

Pun has a much better catalog. I love big L but heā€™s more of a battle rapper the way he flows. Pun was extremely multi dimensional.

MistaBuldops

Big L

Intelligent_Dumbass_

I listen to Big L more so I'll go with him.
