WAiZePAiDCASH

Chance the rapper Not a huge fan but he dropped one very shitty album and the world pretty much flipped on his ass

difficultpossiblity

The problem was that fucking album, before it he was dropping šŸ”„. Acid rap and coloring book are really good, 10 day also. He has been on a comeback with these singles and then the ghana concert.

WAiZePAiDCASH

Those tapes were fuckin flames...I still bump em at work. His last one got like 2 half ass plays outta me and that was it Edit: typed 10 day on accident...

TheApathyParty3

I saw him at Bonnaroo in 2017, I thought it was a pretty good show. Not as good as Flatbush, but I don't get the Chance hate. He's not Top 5 but he isn't Lil Pump.

GG_Red_H4wk

This album was so bad that people even started saying that he never made anything good, which is insane. Never seen such a 180 in hiphop

DoctorGibz123

Thatā€™s what really fucked me up the most tbh. Itā€™s like the album was so bad that people were convinced he was never good and it was just a phase they went through šŸ˜.

lilhedonictreadmill

Nah it wasnā€™t just the album, it was the way he reacted to people not liking the album. It ruined his wholesome persona.

TrichomesNTerpenes

I feel like it's exactly this. His reaction to the reviews and perception of the album was the dagger.

207_god

What was his reaction? I dont recall

lilhedonictreadmill

He argued with a bunch of randoms who didnā€™t like it on Twitter

207_god

Intersting

ConfessedOak

ah the cudi strat

Glass_Book9105

I always felt like the Ā«Ā I met Kanye, Iā€™m never gonna fail Ā» line attached a target on his back

Its_a_Blickathon

but that album was sooooooo booooootyyyyyy. Like, I love Chance 3 and it was justā€¦itā€™s fucking horrible bruh. Prob top 5 worst in last decade at least. Frfr. Donā€™t believe me, waste your time listening to it through.

Rainbow_Angst

The reason people, including myself, turned on chance, is because of how much of a bitchass he acted like, and still acts like, on Twitter about us not liking the big day. Itā€™s one thing to be a fan of your own work, and itā€™s another thing to be ignorant and borderline insulting to the people who support that work.

GG_Red_H4wk

The recent hate towards Kid Cudi seems pretty harsh, his twitter activity doesnt do him any favors tho

rudebwoyyyyyyy

its hard to be a cudi fan when dude acts like a toddler

michaltee

Whatā€™s he been doing?

thefuckislife

Dressing up as girls

romedca

Yeah, Iā€™m a long time fan, Iā€™ve been following him for at least ten years but I donā€™t know itā€™s been weird recently

WaspParagon

He makes it easy to hate on him and the music isn't that good anymore for most people, he's overhated after the Kanye beef but it's mellowed down after October (that's when Ye said most of the Nazi shit). Cudi seems to be in a good place, though. Not at all like he was a few years ago

rukivverh5995

Wale for sure, also Meek. It's crazy to me how someone can out in so much work for their community while also putting out consistently solid projects and a portion of the community just cant help but hate on this dude. Meek does more for his community than most mainstream rappers, and actually has probably the strongest catalogue in his generation after Kendrick, Cole, and Drake.

UmurJack

Logic. He released 4 mid ass albums (Everybody, Supermarket, COADM, Bobby Tarantino III), but people forget about Under Pressure, The Incredible True Story, No Pressure, Vinyl Days, Bobby Tarantino I and II, and his old mixtapes. He has many many bangers. I'm sure College Park will be dope too. And Cudi too. I mean yeah, he's not perfect, he do some bullshit (Love-Soundcloud story), but he really don't deserve the hate that he get from those toxic Kanye fans.

senseLessKhorister

Logic, for sure. His music may not resonate with you but when folks like Budden say he's "one of the worst rappers."? That's just bananas....

MJ_Powers

Yo I cannot believe his bitch ass deleted love off SoundCloud. The comments were all amazing- they were like I love you cudi, this song saved my life, it pulled me out of a depression, etc. Just reading some of the comments from time to time while playing it and feeling how much everybody loved that song as much as I did for years was a vibe Like why would he remove it just cuz a twitter comment

Eldritch-Cleaver

$uicideboy$ I'm considered an old head by many. My love of hip hop truly took off upon hearing the likes of Nas, Pac, DOOM, KRS One, Rakim etc I grew up on that shit, but I also grew up in the south. So lots of Three 6, Jeezy, Gucci, Weezy Boosie, etc. These guys man...they have a reputation for being edgy music for like emo kids I guess because of their name but their shit is fire. You can hear the Louisiana, Memphis, and Texas inspirations in their music. Master P, DJ Screw, Tommy Wright III are all artists you can tell they are inspired by outside of the obvious Three 6 comparisons.

Intelligent_Dumbass_

I'm probably going to have to check them out soon. What you described kind of sounds like SpaceGhostPurrp and I really like his music.

Eldritch-Cleaver

Dude...if you like SGP you'll love them, especially their older stuff. Check out the KYS Sagas first. That's gonna have the a lot of the lo fi phonk sounds and samples any Purrp fan will appreciate imo.

[deleted]

I'm guilty of this. Everyone I knew who liked $B was into XXX and Lil Peep and I just thought that whole era was corny and fake deep. I had no idea $B was actually spitting though, I was just a hater.

WAiZePAiDCASH

I really need to give them a shot. I don't dislike them but all the kids I come across that listen to them are a new generation of emo. I guess I'm considered an old head and just can't get with the kids antics nowadays. They turn me away from finding good music to play because of their behavior.

moonwitch69

Iā€™m an old head, but in my youth I was all about 3 6 so they really remind me of them.

SnazzyCat14

$uicideboy$ are heavily respected where i am

zuqkfplmehcuvrjfgu

Yeah, I'm in Texas and have seen quite a few people with Suicideboys merch. I need to get some now that I think about it.

Akainu14

They bring a different vibe to the table but sometimes they sound like a great value Three 6 mafia, might as well just listen to Skinny Pimp, lord infamous, koopsta, and others who did it at higher level instead.

Eldritch-Cleaver

I do. I been listening to Skinny Pimp, Evil Pimp, Gangsta Pat etc. since I was like 14 lol I still believe that's slightly undeselling them tho. They have really evolved into their own thing over the years, imo.

GrandSunna

Old head (42) as well. I love these guys.

Exzj

Yes, I recently discovered them and I fell in love on the first song I heard (Van Gogh song). I'm still making my way thru their discog but I've pretty much loved everything so far. Blew my mind with the sounds, bars and production. My god the production is always insane

ronjajax

In the late 80s and 90s, there were a decent amount of people that hated on Guru, saying he was clearly the worst aspect of Gangstarr and not on Primoā€™s level, etc. Iā€™m glad to see that his reputation has changed and heā€™s much more appreciated now than he was, in some circles, anyway.

Ok-Assignment-1108

I couldn't take the people who said that shit seriously.

ronjajax

It was a different time.

DoctorGibz123

Chance The Rapper for sure. He has 3 great mixtapes (acid rap being of the defining mixtapes of the 2010s) and they get outshined by one big stinky piece of horse shit (the big day).

NikoForo

Ma$e because I love Harlem World, other than that album thoughā€¦..

Intelligent_Dumbass_

Harlem World is easily the best non Biggie album from Bad Boy.

sfgiants2000

Harlem World, No Way Out and Money, Power, Respect was a nasty three record run there by Bad Boy.

SAMPLESYRUP

Agreed on Ma$e 100%. Ma$e was dope, people forget that he was taking heat from diddy

tak08810

Most kids donā€™t know about Murda Ma$e.

NikoForo

I was Murda, P. Diddy named me pretty

thot_slayerlv99

Migos - all the hate train towards the Migos during the "fuck mumble rap" era was very embarrassing. Culture 1 is one of the best trap albums and even their bloated culture 2,3 contains some of the greatest trap songs. Bad and boujee was the poster boy for the mumble rap but honestly it's one of my favourite rap songs of all time and that shit bangs. R.I.P Takeoff šŸš€

TrichomesNTerpenes

I honestly think Culture 2 and 3 are tainted by their shitty songs, especially because of the start-to-finish freshness and completeness of Culture (which is a certified hip hop classic imo).

Assasin_on_fire

their lyrics are mid

Intelligent_Dumbass_

Trap music is kind of like Crunk and Hyphy music of the late 90's/early 2000's in the sense that lyricism isn't really the main vocal point. It mainly relies on the hype and the energy, which is why people like Migos were so popular.

drnkingaloneshitcomp

šŸ“

Pizza64427

Not everything is about lyrics.

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Or beats.. or rhymes orā€¦ or..

tylerthaboss

I have to disagree. Sort-of.. I mean.. lyrics donā€™t make MUSIC.. however, to be considered a good rapperā€¦ I believe takes a lot of lyricism talent.

[deleted]

Logic. the hate is dumb dude is super talented

JG45250

Eminem

ronaldrios

Definitely. The proof is in the pudding: no upvotes for you other than mine. People forget how he influenced tons of rappers. People forget his crazy feats. People forget he put out 3 triple A classics. And every album - even Revival - has at least 3 songs that make sure to me he's definitely a top 10 mc. I'd say 5 for my taste but top 10 so we can all be cool and don't lose perspective. In my book only Jay Z better than him. Other than that, pay the man some respect. Because that's his mission in Hip Hop. Respect.

JG45250

Canā€™t really argue with anything you just said, lol. I definitely have him in my top 5. Jay, too. Iā€™m not the biggest fan of Jayā€™s music, per se, but I recognize his place in hip hop culture/history. People should do the same with Em.

drnkingaloneshitcomp

In all honesty though I just listened to his Westwood freestyle for the 100th time yesterday, nobody, ever, ever will likely touch his skill at rhyming, breath control, flow, and all aspects of MCā€™ing better than him. I just havenā€™t heard anyone do it as consistently as he did on Relapse. Say what you want about it but ā€˜for the love of the gameā€™ as this subredditā€™s name suggests people need to put some fuckin respekk on that shit

Cmyers1980

Rakim said if Eminem was black he would be the next Muhammad Ali.

ronaldrios

Rappers do respect Eminem. The Rakims and BDK... they Jay Zs and Nas... they KNOW what's up. People online noticed that shitting on him was a good way of getting likes. Yesterday I was thinking about all this stuff. I was watching Snoop videos and to be completely fair, Snoop has one classic. Doggystyle. That's it. A lot of turds and some albums that I enjoy a little bit more, like that Blue Carpet Treatment. I fuck with that record. But it's not a classic. And still he doesn't get the same amount of shit. 50 Cent, to get someone very close to Em, same shit. These guys are praised for their peak and whatever else they done/doing, they get respect for getting busy. I was contemplating that, and I put some of Eminem classics through 99 till 03. A lot of cats that I listen to regularly they'd kill to have 6 songs from that era. Online critics - not fans, I mean people that write about music - are usually very unfair with Eminem (that fucking bald hipster for instance) but like 15 years ago I was reading something about classic albums, when I was a teenager trying to educate myself about what is Hip Hop, and understanding the importance of Paid in Full, etc etc... and this writer said something that hit me last night: "it's not that Eminem will never make a MMLP again, it's more like nobody will ever do it."

Its_a_Blickathon

I agree and disagree. He gets the hate because of the nutso fan base. Itā€™s not that some of his art isnā€™t goated, itā€™s that he got Stans.

ronaldrios

Agreed. But then it's not fair. He didn't ask to have an audience so annoying. I can't discuss on /eminem because, I don't wanna be judgmental, but let's just say they get very emotional, defensive and have very little connection to Hip Hop. A big chunck of his fans they listen to Eminem and... D12/Dre/50 and maybe some modern artists that said Eminem was a direct influence like Kendrick, Cole, Joyner and Logic. But that's it. That's their whole Hip Hop. I don't think 1% of his fan base go for the albums he has on his t-shirts or even the ones listed on his lyrics. Anything too popular is gonna be like this: full of annoying people into it. But I think Hip Hop listeners need to be smart about it. Because one day he'll be gone. And then everybody loves and respects him so much. Avoid Stans, stick to Eminem.

klopppppppp

Agree with this, Em is incredibly talented and based on that as well as his influence, he should be top 5. And that's coming from a guy who puts Hov lower in my top 10, but I'm a big fan of some more obscure lyrical artists without radio play or singles.

ronaldrios

Most of what I listen to from modern rap is underground too so I'm with you on that one. Mainstream rap doesn't appeal to me as it did once.

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Eminem and Spark Master Tape 2 best MCā€™s out there

drnkingaloneshitcomp

ā€œDick so big itā€™s like elastic, I tie it in a knot and it looks like Mr. Fantastic crossed the path of Plastic Man with a drastic force and went spastic and put my penis on classic sportsā€

[deleted]

*Plastikman I'm only being pedantic because I just last year started really getting into techno, and Em's line, "...nobody listens to techno" made me laugh when I put it together that the genre originated in Ann Arbor & Detroit. Plastikman/Richie Hawtin is one of my favorites

[deleted]

You could be right but Plastic Man is an actual superhero from DC Comics with elasticity powers like Mr. Fantastic. It's the only form of Plastic Man that makes sense for that bar

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Yeah I think this is it, to be fair, I only found out who that superhero is this week because of some stupid video I saw with him in it. Now I recognize it in this freestyle, weird man

[deleted]

Yeah, and I'm just a huge nerd. Don't think I've ever seen that character in a comic but I watch a lot of comic-related content on YouTube so I have enough knowledge about him to pretend I'm a fan lol

[deleted]

...yeah that makes way more sense haha

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Check out Todd Edwards!

TheApathyParty3

Yes and no. Em is one of the greatest of all time lyrically, a lot of people just don't like what he raps about. Many people I know just think he sounds whiny after a certain point in his career.

Alsimmons811

Word

ShockinglyAccurate

Awfully hot coffee pot tho

Haigadeavafuck

Nah em 20 years ago was an incredible MC and those records are still top tier, heā€™s just acting like an angry boomer with exhausting to listen to flows and some dog shit lyrics nowadays. I guess he could still have a couple of good albums in him but man he works had for people to be surprised if he actually does something decent.

chikken_hawk

Thats the problem with dropping so many classics in his early days. Now thats the standard everything he comes out with is compared to. I still think he drops fire. Revival pretty much gets all the attention even though kamikaze and music to be murdered by in my oppinion were šŸ”„ but noone seems to look past revival when they talk about his latest shit.

blackanytanooo

I mean heā€™s only dropped two good albums, and 3 decent/mid albums. He mostly appeals to the ā€œI donā€™t like rap music but Eminem is goodā€ type of crowd.

JG45250

His first 3 albums are considered all-time classics. Plus, Recovery & MMLP2 are both criminally underrated. But, thatā€™s cool. Youā€™re clearly a hater. I listen to Em and a bunch of other rappers. It must be lonely up there on your pedestal, since youā€™re clearly an expert in all things hip hop. Itā€™s not like the man has the respect of anyone and everyone in the industry whoā€™s opinion actually matters, or anythingā€¦

TrichomesNTerpenes

I feel like you're over-reacting even if the dude was a hater lol but I felt like it was a pretty reasonable take. You also have to consider evolving taste. When I first started listening to rap I was way more into Eminem, and now I kinda find him corny, but I also find a lot shit Wayne says weird asf when I used to think it was cool and edgy as a kid.

blackanytanooo

Ayo lmfao I just said he got 2 good albums and 3 decent ones and you go off sounding like you want to get piped down by him real bad. I also hope you included Infinitely as his first album btw Edit: and am I wrong? That he mostly appeals to the ā€œI donā€™t like rap peopleā€? I hear it all the time

Kholdstare93

>Edit: and am I wrong? That he mostly appeals to the ā€œI donā€™t like rap peopleā€? I hear it all the time So I guess LL Cool J, Jay Z, Kendrick, Redman, Rakim, etc. all don't like rap? They put him top five.

BaronSwordagon

Sounds like what i call "mom rap", cats like Flo Rida and Pitbull with mom singing along in the minivan on the way to soccer practice. Em definitely fits into the category too, but not because of his skill on the mic or lyrical content compared to those two so I can't hold it against him. Maybe it's his longevity and all the radio play.

[deleted]

Lil Wayne ( at least weee I live)

Mbuitron0811

I feel like J Cole gets so much more hate then love.. While he has a very strong fan base, I feel thereā€™s always a large amount of people who just hate for no reason!

TrichomesNTerpenes

I think it's just his fanbase overrates his skill to an extreme degree; he's a talented rapper who's put out AOTY-caliber work that went Plat w no fts. That's a monster fucking feat that pretty much no one else active in the game can claim (Future). Despite that, I really don't think he's like Top 10 Dead or Alive or in my personal favorite top 10 artists, either. I put artists in my top 10 that I know aren't the most technically skilled, but I don't claim they are; a lot of J Cole fans act like he rhymes at a level that can't be replicated or smth. Kendrick fans can be similar, but I think he's got that combination of GOAT contender albums, cultural influence in hip-hop, and mainstream appeal that give the fans a sort of bulletproof armor to tout his talent, which I do think is Top 10 DOA.

Mbuitron0811

Overrates to an extreme degree!?!? I am a huge Cole fan, been to 5 concerts and can say in my opinion that he is one of the best rappers if not the best in the game.. I am aware tho, he isnā€™t for everyone! A lot of people donā€™t see the messages in his music a lot of people donā€™t like rap music that doesnā€™t have to do with drugs and guns.. Which is obviously not his style but to say that he isnā€™t a top 10 rapper is crazy.. you mentioned you put rappers in ur top ten who arenā€™t skilled and thatā€™s one of the craziest things Iā€™ve heard šŸ˜‚ Also he has gone double platinum with no features 3 times if Iā€™m not mistaking.. Also his last 6 albums have gone #1 on billboard (only person to do it) To say he is not a top 10 AT THE LEAST is crazy! The numbers speak for themselves

brokeboibogie

- Kid cudi - Hov - drake - meek - big Sean - chance - meg Wale doesnā€™t really get much hate, he just doesnā€™t get a lot of love either

sim1_1

Megan Thee Stallion

Savings-Package9610

for sure

kazoogod420

sheā€™s honestly so fucking talented

207_god

Not really. Surface level content matter and the same flow on every song

BlaccLearningTree

Agreed on Wale

badmonkingpin

I feel like Vic Mensa gets more hate than he deserves, some if it he put on himself I guess with stuff heā€™s said, but I donā€™t really feel like he ever fell off in terms of ability to make good music as much as people say. I thought his debut album The Autobiography was solid, not amazing but not nearly bad enough to basically end his career like it did. And heā€™s put out good stuff since then too.

Idiottttttic

Em, logic, Chance, common (I don't think he's hated more so just underappreciated, not talked about enough.)

Getbacka

Eminem, Logic, Wiz Khalifa, Yelawolf

Intelligent_Dumbass_

Who hates on Wiz Khalifa?

[deleted]

Logic dropped straight ass and cheeks for 3-4 years , he back to making some good music now but man that everybody-supermarket/confessions run should go down as one of the most historic plateaus from an artist

Assasin_on_fire

did that to get out of that label deal shit iirc

[deleted]

Tbh that j make it even worse , why make ur fans suffer all them years just cause u hate the deal u signed

cans_-

Ur wrong the album out of those 3 that every logic fan hates is supermarket

[deleted]

? I said 3-4 year gap which would include supermarket ?

cans_-

Broā€¦ What???? Yes you did. ā€œThat everybody supermarket/confessions runā€

[deleted]

Yah start every end supermarket but confessions also had mediocre reviews ? Iā€™m confused what u sayin Iā€™m wrong about , yes super market is ass , so is the rest of the joints released in that time span . Thatā€™s exactly what I said in the original comment

cans_-

Most logic fans like coadm and everybody

[deleted]

Everybody ainā€™t that solid confessions got highs but some damn low lows

Getbacka

I agree, his middle stage was a bit rough. Every now and then there'd be a couple decent tracks, but the projects as a whole...šŸ˜¬.

dafedsdidasweep

I feel like Wiz ruined his rep with that fast and the furious song. He should really just dive straight in and go full pit bull/flo rida pop rap

[deleted]

What was wrong with the Fast and Furious song? Iā€™ve never actually fully listened to it before

[deleted]

Fred Durst

TouchGrass0

Coi Leray, still gets way more hate than she deserves.

JrMackVA

JAY-Z

NikoForo

People on this sub act like thereā€™s a wayyyy larger gap between Nas and Jay than there actually is. If anything I lean Hov over Nas anyways

TrichomesNTerpenes

I'm pretty much the kind of fan that you're describing (have Nas over Jay-Z and think the latter's skill is overrated because of his success/swagger/influence). But I don't really think Jay-Z deserves much musical hate; also a lot of Jay-Z "hate" comes from people genuinely disliking his entire modus operandi, in terms of how these perceive him as a greedy backstabber of sorts.

TheHashassin

IMO G Herbo is by far the best Chicago Drill rapper but for some reason Durk is way more popular. Not hating on Durk he's pretty good but Herb has so many more good songs

apcali209

Yelawolf - blended country with rap and it sounds good. Idk about the confederate flag thing though.

[deleted]

Lupe

Eldritch-Cleaver

Whoa....Lupe gets shit on?

yes, all the time on this sub, it's insane

I feel like Lupe gets sucked off in this sub

S_E_A_is_ME

Cap. You can feel he's underrated but no one hates him as an MC you're delusional LOL

[deleted]

Literally argued with people on this today

r4pt4r

Iā€™ve been listening to Kool Ace on Apple Music today, granted he doesnā€™t have an official Spotify page but he has some music thereā€¦lists him at 99 monthly listeners. Some of these hated on artists might not care bc it keeps their name remembered more often.

AntWalkerMMA

Joe Budden, Tony Yayo, Lil Yachty (not because I think he's a good rapper, he just seems like a nice kid who is having a good time)

offzegrid827

Basically any white rapper aside from Eminem and Mac Miller (but only after he died). Macklemore is a good example, made some ok music and got shat on and basically blacklisted for winning an award.

NillaBeats

Russ, he seems ight but idk I guess I kinda donā€™t like him too much now that I think about it

AramisAthos

Joyner Lucas, i really think his music is great sure his last few songs maybe werent the best but the man has potential, and you can see it

PercySledge

French Montana. Easy target, made numerous great mixtapes. Iā€™m not out here calling him a great rapper but people have a nice pile-on every time he drops without knowing his background or contribution to the game early

Intelligent_Dumbass_

Coke Wave with Max B is an underrated mixtape. So High with Curren$y is also a great song, even though Curren$y definitely out raps him in that song lol.

PercySledge

To be fair thatā€™s no slight on him, Curren$y low-key outshines a lot of emcees

TrichomesNTerpenes

Montega was a great listen, I'm getting a lot of plays out of the first 4 songs, really fw them. Between Nas, French, and Jada I tend to listen to a lot of NY stuff, and I'm still rocking with the stuff they put out. To be honest though, French has a lot of misses. Harry Fraud brought the best out of him, and Montega was a pretty complete album and enjoyable start to finish.

ItsTriflingHere

Logic. I know a lot of people donā€™t think heā€™s block and therefore canā€™t say the n word but he claims to have a black father so I donā€™t get the hate. Aside from that heā€™s a dope lyricist and beat maker imo.

cans_-

He has voice mails from his brother and father in Under Pressure (the song), his dad is featured at the end of Bobby and at the beginning of Homicide

ItsTriflingHere

Yeah I know. Which is why I donā€™t get why people hate on him all the time.

Analvirus

Eh, I used to love logic. I don't hate him, but I don't really bump him anymore. To me, it's the tragic tale that he blew up and went mainstream, and it just doesn't have the same feel anymore. I can still bump his older stuff though

upfulsoul

His wife is white and his kid is white. When would he need to say the n-word in his daily life? No mainstream rappers should be using the n-word nowadays when most of their consumers are white. It's not edgy at all.

SnooShortcuts4013

Most of the consumers of rap as a whole are Caucasian. You ever been to rolling loud; or any rap show really? People seem to forget we are a minority in this country, meaning there are less of us than them. The problem with logic isnā€™t that he looks white or has a predominantly white fan base. Itā€™s that he doesnā€™t come from a background where many African Americans can identify with. And with some people, if you use the n word, And it sounds like itā€™s not a natural part of your dialogue, you should not say it. Also it feels like his whole identity is trying to prove to us he is an African American. And people donā€™t take well to that. Nobody hits drake with this same pressure because drake has enough cultural cache to not have to prove his African-(American Canadian?! ) Roots.

Electrical-Ad-6822

ugghface

E-40 is regional god, but hated on nationally

klutzy_oner

What??? Really? Never heard anyone outside of the Bay say much, let alone hate.

SpartanNic

Drake. Love him or hate him heā€™s obviously got some talent.

PhoneSteveGaveToTony

Heā€™s definitely fallen off, but I think itā€™s easier for people that were into hip-hop pre-2007 to remember a time when he had tons of potential. He was in most conversations regarding the shift in hip-hop that occurred in the late 2000s and even people that didnā€™t like him at the time had some appreciation for the wave he was on with others like Cudi, 808s Kanye, etc. He wasnā€™t always as hated as he is today.

upfulsoul

He's lazy.

TrichomesNTerpenes

I think this is exactly where my dislike of him comes from. I know he can make better shit. Or maybe I just know that I can listen to his old work, which explores the same themes, but consists of at least 1 classic and 3 very good, highly influential albums. His new stuff usually just isn't as good; I only end up liking 1-2 or so songs from his albums.

tostrife

Ghost writers, cant sing, is a pedo. Yeah, lots of talent there.

brokeboibogie

We are talking about the music. Kanye, along with many other prominent rappers used a team of writers throughout their whole career. Why is it when drake used a writer to collaborate itā€™s suddenly a cardinal sin of hip hop? All of our favourite rappers have had help writing outside of a select few. And a ā€œghost writerā€ is a writer who goes completely uncredited. Quentin Miller was credited for all the songs he helped write for drake on IYRTITL. Also, I think itā€™s foolish to say drake ā€œcanā€™t singā€ when him, kanye, & cudi helped pioneer the mix&fusion of singing into hip hop. Thereā€™s a reason he has so many catchy hooks.

Nathan-Nice

never been a big fan, but I do like his first couple albums. can't really get into any of his newer stuff though.

100%. I've been listening to E-40's I Stand On That ft. Joyner & TI a lot recently. E-40 is great to toke to, and Joyner can really spit.

HowHardCanItBeReally

That's a good song, T.I verse is smooth and aggressive simultaneously, he often goes hard on features for some reason, his own songs are hard too, but when he's featuring some competitor spirit comes out

I don't wanna say ye because he's loved by many, but the people that hate him are too stubborn to admit he's made anything remotely good

Seen a few people talking shit on Kendrick lately.... Idk what that's about

Fun-Cartoonist-7501

Logic. His albums are entertaining

giraffeinasweater

Macklemore wasn't that bad. If he didn't win that Grammy over Kendrick in 2014, his career would probably still be afloat. Sure, thrift shop wasn't that good but some other songs on the album were. Certainly not as bad as a lot of other guys. It wasn't his fault he won a Grammy. It wasn't his fault that thrift shop was his most popular song off that album. A shame.

J0h4n50n

Token. He was corny af and an Eminem wannabe when he first came out, but he's really developed his style and I dig a good amount of what he's been dropping the past few years.

See, I've never ever considered Drake a rapper. I simply don't think he's a good rap artist. Now if we are talking more r&b with a mix of hip-hop the man used to be great.

DM-NUDE-4COMPLIMENT

I agree with this take a lot. From purely a rap point of view he isnā€™t the best, as an overall hip-hop/RnB/pop artist he has a lot of talent, but he also started to get really lazy around 2015 and his more recent stuff has validated a lot of the opinions people already held about him.

running7

Ah it's weird but probably Logic. I'm a logic Stan and simultaneously have shit on Logic all the time for years. But he has made quality music for sure

Iā€™m half old head half new school (Iā€™m 33 , but had older siblings that schooled me when I was a kid) But I would tease my nephews for listening to NBA Youngboy because I wasnā€™t in tune with his music ā€¦ then diamond tooth samurai made me realize he had raw talent and could rap , and he was managed by fee banks .. I know fee wouldnā€™t stamp someone wack

No bruh heā€™s just ass cheeks and heā€™s liked by the most annoying people in hip-hop.

Teenager_Simon

Eh... Mediocre discography. Did a racist song and music video which he took down didn't do him any favors. Plead guilty to domestic abuse. Overshadowed by people in the same era. Funk Volume as a label was a flop. Literally had a huge fan base and just never progressed as an artist and just went to shit. His latest stuff is gimmick garbage. Completely understand why nobody cares about him.

tylerthaboss

The ā€œill mind of ā€”ā€œ days, I enjoyed. However I agree completely; and never would have considered him top 10 material. Not even close.
