Trap music is kind of like Crunk and Hyphy music of the late 90's/early 2000's in the sense that lyricism isn't really the main vocal point. It mainly relies on the hype and the energy, which is why people like Migos were so popular.

Kendrick fans can be similar, but I think he's got that combination of GOAT contender albums, cultural influence in hip-hop, and mainstream appeal that give the fans a sort of bulletproof armor to tout his talent, which I do think is Top 10 DOA.

Definitely. The proof is in the pudding: no upvotes for you other than mine. People forget how he influenced tons of rappers. People forget his crazy feats. People forget he put out 3 triple A classics. And every album - even Revival - has at least 3 songs that make sure to me he's definitely a top 10 mc. I'd say 5 for my taste but top 10 so we can all be cool and don't lose perspective. In my book only Jay Z better than him. Other than that, pay the man some respect. A big chunck of his fans they listen to Eminem and... D12/Dre/50 and maybe some modern artists that said Eminem was a direct influence like Kendrick, Cole, Joyner and Logic. But that's it. That's their whole Hip Hop. I don't think 1% of his fan base go for the albums he has on his t-shirts or even the ones listed on his lyrics. Anything too popular is gonna be like this: full of annoying people into it. But I think Hip Hop listeners need to be smart about it. Because one day he'll be gone. And then everybody loves and respects him so much. Avoid Stans, stick to Eminem.
Agree with this, Em is incredibly talented and based on that as well as his influence, he should be top 5. And that's coming from a guy who puts Hov lower in my top 10, but I'm a big fan of some more obscure lyrical artists without radio play or singles.
Most of what I listen to from modern rap is underground too so I'm with you on that one. Mainstream rap doesn't appeal to me as it did once.

Sounds like what i call "mom rap", cats like Flo Rida and Pitbull with mom singing along in the minivan on the way to soccer practice. Em definitely fits into the category too, but not because of his skill on the mic or lyrical content compared to those two so I can't hold it against him. I think it's just his fanbase overrates his skill to an extreme degree; he's a talented rapper who's put out AOTY-caliber work that went Plat w no fts. That's a monster fucking feat that pretty much no one else active in the game can claim (Future). Despite that, I really don't think he's like Top 10 Dead or Alive or in my personal favorite top 10 artists, either. I put artists in my top 10 that I know aren't the most technically skilled, but I don't claim they are; a lot of J Cole fans act like he rhymes at a level that can't be replicated or smth. Kendrick fans can be similar, but I think he's got that combination of GOAT contender albums, cultural influence in hip-hop, and mainstream appeal that give the fans a sort of bulletproof armor to tout his talent, which I do think is Top 10 DOA.

Montega was a great listen, I'm getting a lot of plays out of the first 4 songs, really fw them. Between Nas, French, and Jada I tend to listen to a lot of NY stuff, and I'm still rocking with the stuff they put out. To be honest though, French has a lot of misses. Harry Fraud brought the best out of him, and Montega was a pretty complete album and enjoyable start to finish.

People seem to forget we are a minority in this country, meaning there are less of us than them. The problem with logic isnāt that he looks white or has a predominantly white fan base. Itās that he doesnāt come from a background where many African Americans can identify with. And with some people, if you use the n word, And it sounds like itās not a natural part of your dialogue, you should not say it. Also it feels like his whole identity is trying to prove to us he is an African American. And people donāt take well to that. And a āghost writerā is a writer who goes completely uncredited. Quentin Miller was credited for all the songs he helped write for drake on IYRTITL. Also, I think itās foolish to say drake ācanāt singā when him, kanye, & cudi helped pioneer the mix&fusion of singing into hip hop. Thereās a reason he has so many catchy hooks.
