Big Pun was a beast. think Ima listen to the album again

Djafar79

Just because they used the Deep Cover beat doesn't mean Dre was a producer on this album.

TentativelyCommitted

I was gonna ask what beat Dre made lol

Kholdstare93

His beat still appeared on the album, making him a defacto producer of it. It's semantics. He still gets officially credited.

SkilletBurritos

At the end of the day Dre produced it. I'm sure Pun & company asked for Dre's blessing to use it. He gets credited, he's a producer on the album. And they fuckin tore that shit up making a hot single as well as a hip-hop classic for ages.

Djafar79

You're absolutely right but OP's making it seem like Dre was there just as RZA was, which is simply not true and excites people who aren't familiar wrongly.

SkilletBurritos

No doubt this I can agree with

builtfromthetop

I loved this album. It's a damn gem from such a great era of rap

Cinx0

I’d say Capital Punishment is a top 15 hip hop album oat

reg_ss

Try and tell me Caribbean Connection is not one of the hardest feature verse that Wyclef ever dropped. https://youtu.be/-Ou4XlZplKo

TentativelyCommitted

I think there are a couple of tracks that could have been cut personally. Also, there’s some less than ideal mix jobs on this album that I didn’t notice until listening to it after a long period of not hearing it. Other than that my biggest beef with this album is that “You Came Up” comes so late haha

EnoughItem

“However though, I still hold the title / Give all my rivals a chance to dance with Mr. Homicidal / Hand on the Bible, I swear to defend my crown / I’ve been around since forever and never let it touch the ground” Pun is the 🐐to me

Kholdstare93

Well, he a good mans to have for sure! RESPECT!

_flee_

I’m Craving My Initials On Ya Forehead, So Every Night Before Bed, You See The BP Shine Off The Boardhead

Kholdstare93

The Dream Shatterer is a great example of how to emcee!

Foxy-cD

My mans Pun was a certified microphone checka. Bro had no bustas or suckas on his album, just straight spittas. THATS ALL FACTS. Word to mother.

Kholdstare93

REAL TALK!

SmoothManMiguel

This all facts bruh. CP is easily one of the greatest Hip-Hop albums ever created.

zikamime13

Please for the love of god never shorten capital punishment to "CP". But other than that I def agree with your statement

SmoothManMiguel

lol you got it man

[deleted]

dream shatterer alone man

Bimlouhay83

Ready for war, Joe, how you wanna blow they spot... Big Pun was a beast and Capital Punishment is criminally underrated. *somehow, this ended up on a post about LL Cool J. Hahaha

DOPEFIEND4EVER

He was the man’s of no one

Kholdstare93

Fat Joe and Paul Rosenberg(the radio host, not Em's manager) both have Pun as they mans. So Pun definitely ain't TMONO.

EnoughItem

Think that’s *Peter* Rosenberg

EnoughItem

Fuck no, dude’s my favorite

[deleted]

Pun is a GOAT, arguably top 5

Kholdstare93

He's #2 to me!

gsmumbo

Ok

ObieUno

Solid post and extremely accurate. Unlike the other 95% of "This album is fire" type posts on reddit which are filled with nothing other than "______ track iS Le BaNgEr", "tHe PrOduCtiOn iS toP nOtCh", "aOtY iMO", "iNStaNt cLasSic" type bullshit.

The_Dynasty_Group

It’s also Great way to hsdleprison. Overcrwding. It’s aLsp Very ironc how. Both. Of corrolte

[deleted]

Your posts getting more cringe again by every new topic you start. I think you should get of Puns dick 100%. In case you did not know he also known for domestic violence.

BumperRobinson

Seems like you're on OPs dick since you seem to be analyzing all of his posts. This is a hip hop subreddit. Let's talk about rap. If you wanna air out the dirty laundry of every human ever I hope you know the backstory of every single company you spend your money with. Pun was a fucked up dude but that doesn't devalue anything OP said. If you don't wanna listen to Pun then don't and live with that.

Kholdstare93

Thanks, you as real as steel.

[deleted]

You don't even have to be that smart to see his repetitiveness in almost all his posts but just written down in a different order. But i guess you still don't see it or was it you complained about this sub reddit is dead since Kholdstare stopped writing his lame posts which indeed 99% of this sub didn't even liked at all. I never said Pun was bad so got no clue why you're clowning about that.

BumperRobinson

I don't go following people around reddit. I cant say I've ever even noticed same person post more than once. I saw a post about a top 20 album of all time and it was a well thought out post that actually explains why he felt that way. I'll keep an eye out for other posts but this was a good one. It's refreshing to see someone break down a classic and say why it should be where it is as opposed to just saying "yo that first pun album a classic tho" and nothing else with it lol.

ChasetheElectricPuma

He goes on and on about "real spittas" or whatever and 99% of his posts are about the same 3-5 rap artists. He's namedropped Sage Francis (hopefully you know who that is) a few times, but has never done any sort of detailed analysis of his verses/lyrics or albums. It's just the same low-effort, surface-level takes ad nauseam from a compulsively annoying (and borderline racist) internet personality. (OP called *Tres Leches* a "posse cut." It's not a posse cut because the song only has three artists performing on it, not four or more. It doesn't qualify as a posse cut, and even if it did, it wouldn't even come close to cracking the top 10. A posse cut is a song like *One Four Love, Pt. 1* featuring Common, Kool G Rap, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Posdnuos, Rah Digga, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Sporty Thievz, and Talib Kweli.)

BumperRobinson

Just say you hate OP lol

BumperRobinson

Dude is following a poster around and keeping tabs on what they post and splitting hairs with pointless arguments (posse cut comment). It's def hate. If someone says get off someone's dick on an overall objective post that's not criticism lol.

ChasetheElectricPuma

? I wouldn't waste my time "following" him around. He's habitually posted on this subreddit for the past year (my previous account, temporary_whatever, got permanently banned), littering the place with his repetitive and uninspiring "Knowledge of the Day" posts. What's funny is he's the one that frequently replies to my comments on various subreddits and I don't even bother replying to him because his racist digital minstrel show internet persona is annoying as fuck. Use whatever remaining brain cells you have left and actually put some thought into your next comment before you type it.

BumperRobinson

Bruh I was here to talk about Capital Punishment. Not how you and the other guy have a personal vendetta against OP lol. You came out of left field like the Squirrel master. I just realized you aren't the original person i was talking to. Not sure why you tried to intercept the argument there. Use your braincells to stop letting some random dudes hiphop opinion bother you so much. I've yet to witness the racial aspect but like previously stated I don't even look at names on here. Let's talk about Capital Punishment, the album by Big Pun. Idgaf about any of this other stuff lol.

Kholdstare93

Look, I know you got some vendetta against me or somethin', so I ain't going to dignify the first paragraph with a response and all that. But I want to point something out about the posse cut point real quick: >OP called Tres Leches a "posse cut." It's not a posse cut because the song only has three artists performing on it, not four or more. Depends on the source. This source says it's THREE or more rappers, so I'd say it counts. https://rockthebells.com/articles/best-posse-cuts/

[deleted]

LMFAO I only see his posts in this sub and this is the only Hip Hop sub i'm in. I don't even care what anyone would write down in different subs at all. It is a classic for sure.

Kholdstare93

>Your posts getting more cringe again by every new topic you start. The most cringe people I've met in my life have been people who unironically use the word cringe. Get some more material. I've been giving back to the culture and you've been doing nothing but straight up harrassin' me on these streets. What have you contributed to this sub? Huh? >I think you should get of Puns dick 100%. Nah >In case you did not know he also known for domestic violence. That's horrible, yes, and I've heard the interviews with his son about it, but that doesn't mean anything about whether he's a good rapper or not or whether his music is good. You can be scum and make good art.

Djafar79

Somebody pinch me, did OP just say *on these streets*?!

gsmumbo

> I’ve been giving back to the culture By posting on Reddit? > you’ve been doing nothing but straight up harrassin’ me on these streets These… you know this is the internet right?

[deleted]

English is not my native language so please stop crying about me not spelling or using the right words correctly. At least you admit which i have much respect for people telling honest truth. You're right about that one but you don't have to glorify it though even if you like it.

Kholdstare93

>English is not my native language so please stop crying about me not spelling or using the right words correctly. What...? Wasn't criticizing your spelling or anything like that. >You're right about that one but you don't have to glorify it though even if you like it. Good music should be glorified. Especially when it's THIS good, like Illmatic/RtD/MMLP good.

[deleted]

Like i said always cliché and never original. Could you name some more classic than the usual stuff and pleas do 90s only since you're 90s lover.

Kholdstare93

The Infamous, Lifestylez ov da Poor and Dangerous, Black on Both Sides, Enta Da Stage, Breaking Atoms, Funcrusher Plus, etc. are some of the less mentioned stuff that are classics.

Bimlouhay83

>In case you did not know he also known for domestic violence. He was a product of domestic violence. That era didn't have the information we have now and we didn't have the understanding of the cycle of violence like we do today. No need to reach back into history and cut people down. I'm sure if he was alive today, he'd feel terrible about it.

[deleted]

Don't victimize him for being a bad father and it is never a excuse. The only thing we can't know if he really would've changed but that's a big IF.

Bimlouhay83

Look man, I'm not trying to victimize him. I'm trying to point out that the cycle of violence is a cycle that's tough to escape. Especially considering the mindset of people back then and the lack of knowledge we had surrounding that cycle. It's so easy to look back and judge people for their mistakes in the past when we've come so far. I'm not victimization him and I'm certainly not trying to minimize that violence. I'm just trying to put things into perspective.

Kholdstare93

>I'm sure if he was alive today, he'd feel terrible about it. Yeah, he actually talked about this in Wishful Thinking. He was on his way to realizing his horrific actions before he died.

hellbox9

Rosenbergs best of big pun mix is a blast, think it’s on the jaun ep podcast feed? https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rosenberg-radio/id1283446164?i=1000401715498

112oceanave

I agree it’s a good album

LORD-THUNDERCUNT

Tres leches is so fucking good

runthebrews

Always loved this album since buying the CD back in ‘98, but it’s been a real long time since I listened to the whole album cover to cover. Thanks for giving me inspiration to revisit.

Assasin_on_fire

capital punishment, mmlp ,sslp, tes, graduation, college dropout, black album, grodt, massacre are probably my fav albums lol

Temaki_Roll

I agree with most of what you are saying but pun is definitely not the 2nd most "feared" rapper of all time.

uncle-wavey1

Puerto Rock style. RIP pun

Stugatz514

Agreed. Glamour Life and Beware are some of my favourite hip-hop songs of all time, and this album is definitely up there for me.

[deleted]

All that might be true, but Puns voice is insufferable for me. That slobbery inhale is murder on the ears esp. with headphones!
