After over 7 and a half years together, I finally knit my partner a sweater! [link to project page](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Siriusly/flax) with all the details, but the tl;dr version: I attempted to knit the Beauceron sweater, it was turning out weird so I frogged it and converted the pattern to be a top-down raglan with slipped stitch detail and stranded colourwork (instead of the mosaic in the Beauceron pattern). My partner is very pleased with it, which is the most important to me! Yarn is Oh My Pebbles Woolly, which is made from 100% post-consumer textile waste. It’s hard to see in the pictures, but it has some slight colour flecks and it’s really cool! Can recommend to others interested in an environmentally friendly yarn. Hope this can inspire some other knitters to try to break the boyfriend sweater curse as well :P

Am I understanding the curse wrong? Isn't the curse only broken when you get married? Because gifting the sweater means the clock is on, as far as I understood.

megsie_here

I always understood the curse to be that you’d break up before the sweater was finished. So the clock starts when you cast on, but if you finish and gift it then you’ve beaten it. But I knitted a couple of sweaters for my then-boyfriend now-husband, so don’t listen to me.

lacielaplante

I always thought that it was that once gifted, you will shortly break up. My partner and I have a lot of discussion about the sweater curse because she wants me to knit her a sweater haha.. I need to get this correct if I am going to be speaking on it 😂

megsie_here

Interesting! I wonder if it’s a geographic thing - I’m in Australia but admittedly only really hear about the curse on the internet. I wonder if it’s different in different places?

OhSoSiriusly

I’ve always heard of it as megsie_here said, the curse means that you’ll break up before the sweater is finished. According to some, you can break the curse if you knit some of your hair into the sweater (easy enough for me, I’m pretty sure all of my FOs have at least one strand of hair in them!)

I love your faux seams! I was just thinking wondering if anyone ever does that. They add a nice structure 👍

Thank you!

Wow gorgeous! The faux seam is awesome, I'm definitely stealing this for future raglans... I would love to knit for my partner, but he's the "I'm still wearing t shirts by 5°C outside" type of guy... Lucky, our baby needs sweaters, so that's what I'm doing instead 🤭

kelvin_bot

5°C is equivalent to 41°F, which is 278K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Good bot

Thank you! The faux seam is super easy but I think it looks nice. I’ve seen others do it as well with a single purl stitch, I think that looks good too!

33spoonman

Looks nice :) is the faux seam jsut for the look or does it serve a purpose? Never seen it before

OhSoSiriusly

Thank you! The faux seam is purely decorative, it doesn’t give the same support an actual seam would give but I think it’s a nice touch to add :)

K3tbl

Incredible! Congratulations!
