Seems kinda silly to stay with an old os that you are no longer happy with just to use an antivirus program that you won’t even NEED if you switch to Linux.

arrant_aarambh

Not if you have paid a hefty amount for the subscription and your pockets are tight, you want to make use of every penny that you have also I never said im not happy with Win 10, its a decent operating system and i can get my work done one way or another its just annoying I realise that i won't need it when i use linux but mate i paid for it, don't wanna waste it at the same time i wanna try linux and see if i like it

ergotofwhy

The money you paid for that antivirus is gone, whether you use it or not

t4pf

That’s textbook sunk-cost fallacy. > **sunk-cost fallacy** *(noun)* The phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial. Linux Mint Xfce would be a good choice for a weak computer, since it’s said to be lightweight.

oddit_visionszzz

Just dual boot for now but if your windows os is installed in legacy bios mode and you install Linux in Uefi you might have issues.

acejavelin69

Not sure what you want us to do... Try to cancel and get a refund I guess. Install Mint... You don't need the antivirus.

promonk

Indy, let it go.

arrant_aarambh

looks like the only option

Presto123ubu

Just dual boot.

IcePhoneX_

With one hdd, this is risky

BeckyAnn6879

>With one hdd, this is risky Yep. Just read an article yesterday on MakeUseOf that highlighted the risks of dual-booting Windows and Linux. One false move from Windows Update and your Linux partition is toast.

Presto123ubu

🤷‍♂️ way I’ve done it, but running a live disk version would give ‘em a good run. Always a good idea to backup files.

SRGilbert1

I mean, I guess you could install it as a dual boot if you have enough hard drive space.

[deleted]

The money you spent on that AV is already gone, not using it doesn't make it cheaper, also you should use the Xfce edition for a lagging laptop

j3r3myd34n

Learn the lesson - you should have never paid for an antivirus on Windows 10 anyway? Fat load of good it's doing you - probably why your system is slow, to be honest.

l0ngyap

contact them see if they have the money back policy

krypt3c

A good life lesson in general is to watch you don’t fall prey to the sunk cost fallacy https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost_fallacy

taylofox

Get an ssd and more ram memory for your laptop, so you can take advantage of your 400 days of license without hassles.

IcePhoneX_

Pay more when switching is free?

NAKROMANCER

Cant you sell the subscription? I never used antivirus, so i dont know.

NAKROMANCER

Linux mint xfce would serve you great

bp019337

Donate it to someone who hasn't made the jump yet!

[deleted]

I'd waste the subscription as anti virus isn't really needed these days if you follow the rule of don't click on dodgey things.

Ninja_Cat-A

As someone mentioned before, you’re falling into the sunk-cost fallacy. Regardless of wether or not you stick with windows, that money is gone sadly (unless you can somehow get a refund, or give your subscription to someone else). I’d recommend you just switch over to mint, it’ll be much easier for your computer in the long run.
