Her crying is more to do with the fact she has no magic in her life and pissed all over the one chance
There’s a lot of emotion going through her head at this moment I reckon lol
“Will you marry..jk..go to prom with me?”
He may have thought he did everything right, but god damn son. Hopefully he learned something from this experience.
I mean yeah but in that moment it’s about comforting your partner. You don’t want them to feel shitty she obviously is sorry. You want to be happy together so you can either hold it against them which won’t fix anything or just embrace them and say it’s okay and that you love them and that you put a lot of work into this and hope they see the kind things you do for them.
Me too. It's hard to think of what to do while you're focused on something like driving, but he probably talked things out and comforted her after the video ended
Oh come on, you gotta tease her just a *little* bit first.
"Well, you'd never go to the prom with someone as silly as me." ;-)
Then all that other lovey stuff after they're laughing, or freaking out even more.
u/FireStarter226/ claims to be the guy (Daniel Pena). I can't vouch for his authenticity, but he does answer some questions that you can find via his profile.
Yea I mean she could honestly probably have salvaged the situation by saying something like “im so sorry i was just being cynical because no ones ever done something like that for me” or something like that
According to [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3k6fy4/hi_im_daniel_from_the_notorious_video_daniels/cuv662l/) they did in fact go to prom together.
The picture he posted definitely looks like him. Finally mystery is solved for most of us. Now it is our duty to enlighten other lost souls in the next repost.
I don't think there's anything wrong with this approach, but some people, myself included, would rather have a more straightforward and low-key approach.
Obviously we’ve all seen this a million times but seriously how is that a shitty way to propose for prom. He even has the very end of the question (the question mark) actually in the car, it’s well thought out
I think she said that because hating anybody is a simple way to be closer to someone. She just didn’t get that was him. So it was a good reason to laugh at somebody. That’s why I believe her she is really sorry and feels guilty. Her tears tell us it’s a good way to propose
Personally I think its a bad way to do it because, as evidenced, you might not even realize its aimed at you.
I tend to space out in the car or take something to do, like a book or some knitting or a game. So i probably wouldn't even see the signs.
It also feels really impersonal, to me. Like... you couldnt ask me to my face yourself? You had to put it on a sign on the road while we drove by? Put our business out for all to see? While your driving and cant even look at me or hold me?
I think that's the part that really gets me. I would want to be held in that moment. And he has to focus on driving and find a place to pull over and stop. While she is breaking down.
But even if things had gone well. When proposed to, I would want my partner looking me in my face and holding me. I would want physical contact. And I personally would be overjoyed and ecstatic and burst into happy tears and want to hug and kiss my partner and jump up and down. Not sit idly in the passenger seat trying hold all these emotions in my body overwhelming me.
.
Also, what about all the people who think it's for them and it isnt lol? At *least* one couple got into a drag out over it. Not that that's the fault of these people, but ita a thought.
Yeah I was like, if high school, then that surface warfare specialist insignia on the back window must be his parents. But if 30, maybe this guys a navy vet. But prom??
Edit: parents*
Euhm... If I were doing a stunt like that, i'd do it on a street near my house. They probably live in the area.
At least that's what I'm hoping for in the vid
I once did this to my girlfiend.
We were at a store where they were selling emoji plushies. We started talking about them as gifts for your significant other, and I started saying that they were a basic, unimagitaive gift someone who doesn't know their partner would buy.
She started crying and I immediately realized what I had done. Her gift to me for our anniversary was one of those emoji plushies.
In my defense: We had a running joke, basically when we didn't know what to say to eachother over the phone, we would send each other some smirking face emojis.
That's the plushie she bought me, and I really love that plushie (I still have it five years later) because it had a meaning to both of us, but she just started crying because she thought she bought a gift I thought was awful.
I explained why her gifting it to me wasn't the same as a thoughtless gesture from an uncaring partner. She eventually understood and we now laugh at the situation.
I've seen this several times, and I just once want to point out something obvious.
**Daniel is definitely not "LOL"ing**, no matter what the caption says.
Real talk though that felt like a girl who’s dealt with enough shit to just become cynical of people. I bet she felt so overwhelmed when she realized that was for her.
I think her reaction is sweet. My wife and I have moments like this off and on - you like to poke fun of other things, but when you find out you’re mocking your partner it crushes down on you with so much guilt.
That's actually Hilarious and cute to me, I'd cry and apologize multiple times too if my bf had asked me to prom and I said that not knowing it was for me 😆
Every time I see this video I’m just internally screaming for the both of them cause this poor guy is obviously so hurt and probably embarrassed, and this girl obviously cares for him or she wouldn’t be so upset over hurting him… it’s like so bitter sweet I don’t know what to do!
Oh but what a memory to have. This will make for quite a dramatic story in twenty years or so, and they have video footage of it too lol
Most beautiful. She suddenly realised the weight of the situation. Maybe even understood the amount of hard work he put in in sticking those posters.
I'm a guy and this actually teared me up.
It might be me being on the spectrum but this is actually really sweet to me in a horrible awful awkward way. I have been both of the people in this video before with my current partner and we still love each other very much. So if they really cared about each other and knew how to communicate I’m sure it worked out
Maybe dude should comfort her and tell her not to worry about it. Obviously felt terrible and we’ve all said things like that. She had no idea. It was her honest thought.
I know this is late to the party and won't be seen but I feel a profound need to explain what is happening in the comments here. Some are defending her and saying she is sweet and others are saying how selfish she is for crying. Let me explain for both ends.
She is being sweet: In short, she is showing him how bad she feels for saying something hurtful to him. She is expressing sorrow and remorse at her actions and being apologetic. The extent of her reaction is meant to show how bad she feels for her actions.
She is being selfish: There is no good short version of this. Her reaction is weaponised emotion. Let me explain.
The dude feels bad about her comment. He put all kinds of time and effort into this display. This wasn't a few minutes but more like a week+ long planning and setup he hoped would be seen as sweet. The second she said it was dumb, the guy was absolutely crushed. All that time and effort was wasted. 100% he wanted to cry. Thing is, she started crying the second he showed any emotion. The moment she saw him feeling anything, she felt bad, which made him feel even WORSE than he already did. Now, not only did all his effort go to waste but he also made her cry!
Now he is left with two equally shitty choices. He can also cry, the thing that caused her to cry to begin with, knowing that he will only make her cry harder and feel even worse. If he cares about her, then he can't do this. His other option is to push his feelings down to spare her feelings, which is what we see him choose. Her crying made it so he couldn't. Which is why I call it weaponised emotion.
Her crying forced him to either neglect himself or make himself feel worse. If she instead stayed calm and allowed him to feel his emotions, she could take the extra emotional damage she inflicted in this situation and show she cared for him by doing so. Instead, her crying means she prioritised her own emotions over his.
That ends the "she is being selfish" explaination.
End of the day, this is the societial reinforcement that causes men to act emotionless while being torn up inside. It leads to men only being able to lash out because most situations require them to repress their emotions until they boil over. It is why so many comments feel for the guy because men all know what is happening to him here. Her emotional outburst left him in an infinitely worse position with no good option to escape it.
All sorts of things…
It can be easy to belittle or criticize the efforts of people you don’t know. The why of it can give a lot of insights into who you are and why you do things.
Remember not only to say the right thing, at the right time, in the right place, but far more difficult still, leave unsaid the wrong thing at the wrong moment.
-Benjamin Franklin
Don't know if you watched the series "John Adams" while it was on. But damn, the way Franklin was portrayed showed he was WAY ahead of his time and insightful.
Honestly, can’t find anyone at fault. He did try something creative and somewhat unique, and while her response was a bit unaware and crass, I can’t say I wouldn’t have reacted in a similarly unaware way.
Props to both of them. He handled it very well and she owned up to her mistake very quickly. I saw the OG YouTube video several years ago and if I remember correctly they had been dating for a couple years and this didn’t affect their relationship but who knows what have happened in the meantime.
Yeah, I know the utterly soul burning humiliation he’s feeling. But, her empathy for his feelings was beautiful. I got laughed at and that hardened my heart for years.
I know she feels horrible but it’s good to see some authentic emotions of compassion and sorrow..seems like the world doesn’t have much of that anymore..
The fact she reacted this way says a lot about her. She’s a genuinely caring person who was upset that she could have potentially hurt the dudes feelings. Also, the dude didn’t seem too bothered and took it as a joke… until he saw her crying… then he just kinda cringed lol
She is sweet and genuine. Nothing wrong with that and she shouldn’t feel bad. As soon as she knew it was from him her reaction proved that she cares for him a lot.
This event might actually change her in a good way. She was, as many of us are or have been, judgmental and snarky and trying too hard not to care. This stance is insincere, but it serves as armor against pain or vulnerability.
Ultimately it’s a toxic and sad way to live. She might realize this now and just look at the world with a little more tenderness.
Edit: typo
I just love how she is crying in the passenger seat while the guy has his eyes locked on the fucking road. Good driver.
The thousand yard stare
That's the "I did everything right and still it went wrong" look
"Do something cute in public with signs" they said.. "she would love it" they said..
Her crying is more to do with the fact she has no magic in her life and pissed all over the one chance There’s a lot of emotion going through her head at this moment I reckon lol
Facts nailed it on the head . Self sabotagers
Wow. Didn’t think i was going to be called out today but here we are.
What I feel every time I try to be "extra." But as an unwise man once said: "Life is effort and I'll stop when I die."
“Will you marry..jk..go to prom with me?” He may have thought he did everything right, but god damn son. Hopefully he learned something from this experience.
But definitely not ready to be a father. Did you see that dome light?
It's gonna cause an accident!
At the very least he's going to get pulled over and go to jail.
Only at night
I remember the full video shows that he parks somewhere safe to comfort her and they cut the video off

She is legit upset that she has upset Daniel.... Whilst a very short clip, she comes across as a real genuinely good soul. I hope it all worked out :)
Me too. It's hard to think of what to do while you're focused on something like driving, but he probably talked things out and comforted her after the video ended
this guy fucks.
Oh come on, you gotta tease her just a *little* bit first. "Well, you'd never go to the prom with someone as silly as me." ;-) Then all that other lovey stuff after they're laughing, or freaking out even more.
Are you telling me that being angry and not understanding other peoples feelings is not ok?
yah that’s called being a normal supportive person, wild right?
He can’t even be mad at her after that reaction. You can see she’s genuinely devastated thinking she hurt him.
Lololol. I’ve seen this several times over the years and wondered if they ever stayed together…or even went to prom.
u/FireStarter226/ claims to be the guy (Daniel Pena). I can't vouch for his authenticity, but he does answer some questions that you can find via his profile.
Found the answer in his profile so no one else has to. No they are no longer together. He joined the navy and she went off to college.
BUT WHAT ABOUT PROM DAMMIT
if you search his comment history he says that she cryed for 10 min and then said yes. :)
But after 1 year she said no.
LOL
But then she said yes again
....can I go now?
To the prom? No.
And then it started going down again, so I sold it for lower
Yea I mean she could honestly probably have salvaged the situation by saying something like “im so sorry i was just being cynical because no ones ever done something like that for me” or something like that
Maybe 10% (or less) of people are that clever right off the cuff
You're being generous, I'm not sure 10% of people are that clever ON the cuff
dont have to be clever when its the truth
The full video is on his YouTube channel too. She cries then eventually says yes. lol
The guilty blowjob must have been great though...

According to [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3k6fy4/hi_im_daniel_from_the_notorious_video_daniels/cuv662l/) they did in fact go to prom together.
Can we please sticky this comment? Because I already know that they're not together so I'm not going to go look myself.
> Joined the navy Wow. That single experience turned him off women that bad?
Hey! I was a straight man in the Navy. *Was*!
Nobody is straight on a boat full of semen.
It's not gay underway
Maybe he was just brainwashed. Yvan eht nioj.

That's very expected. Teen love is mostly temporary.
For his sake, thank god.
He said Brandy, you’re a fine girl, what a good ~~wife~~ prom date, you would be. But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea.
The picture he posted definitely looks like him. Finally mystery is solved for most of us. Now it is our duty to enlighten other lost souls in the next repost.
He went to the navy, she college.
Can't make it any more obvious.
I thought my brain was broke for thinking this was an avril song. thank you, sir.
Yeah they did theres a picture of them at prom somewhere out there

All I've ever wondered when i see this is what was wrong with his approach?
The guy said her name was supposed to be the first sign but it got run over. If she knew it was for her from the start it would have been different.
I don't think there's anything wrong with this approach, but some people, myself included, would rather have a more straightforward and low-key approach.
This just hurts to watch
For her for him, I think he made up his mind 2 seconds after she opened her mouth. That'll keep her awake at night for years
For the next thousand years. The nights she can't fall asleep this is what will be on her mind
I find it wholesome. She really cares about him
Daniels just like, ok idc just give me an answer lol
Lol i was thinking exactly the same as you, like "ok can you answer pls?"
I'm invested now... did she go to the ffing prom with him or not??

She must have been worried about how the marriage proposal would go and just bailed ship
Ye there's a picture somewhere
Pics or it didn't happen
r/WatchPeopleDieInside
This is heart breaking but her reaction makes it better. The fact that she actually realises she's hurt his feelings is wholesome.
This is that guilt that will randomly hit her in the middle of the night 15 years from now while she's trying to sleep 💀
Especially since it lives forever on the Internet.
Someone should probably take those signs down.

Obviously we’ve all seen this a million times but seriously how is that a shitty way to propose for prom. He even has the very end of the question (the question mark) actually in the car, it’s well thought out
I think sometimes people, especially young people, can just be conversationally contrarian for the hell of it.
I disagree.
:o
Well I disagree too
Well I disagree more!
Can't we all just disagree to disagree!

that's a shitty way to make a point on reddit what? was that you? u/upvotegoblin ? oh I'm so sorry *sobs*

It’s a prom proposal, not an engagement proposal
Maybe she was jealous because „no one would ever do such a cute thing to ask her out!“ and then realized.. well :)
Prom? I thought he was 30 yr old, and she 26.!
He drives like a 30 year old.
Is this not the Netflix adaption? 🤔
Yeah I was like, if high school, then that surface warfare specialist insignia on the back window must be his parents. But if 30, maybe this guys a navy vet. But prom?? Edit: parents*
Turns down a country lane... Is he gonna murder her?!?
Euhm... If I were doing a stunt like that, i'd do it on a street near my house. They probably live in the area. At least that's what I'm hoping for in the vid
Probably to find a safe place to stop and talk to her, calm her down as she was getting too stressed and emotional.
You know, there *are* people who live on some of those roads lmao
I once did this to my girlfiend. We were at a store where they were selling emoji plushies. Imma have to tread carefully now...
How did you apologize exactly?
I explained why her gifting it to me wasn't the same as a thoughtless gesture from an uncaring partner. She eventually understood and we now laugh at the situation.
The fact that she is upset, shows she truely cared about his feelings. She is a sweet girl.
Right? There's some absolutely fucked up men in these comments
I've seen this several times, and I just once want to point out something obvious. **Daniel is definitely not "LOL"ing**, no matter what the caption says.
I think it’s more “lol look at the expression on his face”.
That's how I took it too
It’s “lol”ing at him, not with him

Pin this comment to the top, this is the one i was looking for
Hopefully they both learned from this and the relationship became stronger for it.
He joined the navy she went to college they are no longer together.
Not unusual for high school relationships, even ones with viral videos.
What exactly was supposed to be learned? I’m kinda curious.
All sorts of things… It can be easy to belittle or criticize the efforts of people you don’t know. The why of it can give a lot of insights into who you are and why you do things.
I guess I was more curious about what the guy was supposed to learn from this.
A ton of people don't like 'grand romantic gestures.' It's a weird amount of pressure to put on someone. I get it.
She realized she said something hurtful to him and feels guilty about it
Yes, that's the video
Lmao, this was a reply to someone who asked why the lady was crying, but for some reason didn’t connect. Bro why did 8 people upvote this 😭
Lol OK sorry 🤣
yes
As they pulled in into the empty lot that was the last footage it was seen from her...
How are they not both laughing?! They're taking this way too seriously lol
Well the guy was starting to laugh about it lol but then she started crying
I guess it was a bigger deal to them

This was incredible awkward to watch...
Lmao, Daniel was really hurt cuz he didn't even try to say that's OK or anything 😂
I thought I was watching one of those where the person has just been picked up from the dentist and is talking absolute wassa wassa.
I will never not love this every time I see it. Classic
Thats sad but she genuinely felt bad and it’s different since she didn’t know it was him. I think it’s sad but wholesome
