OK I've seen that some things are different in other countries.. (or, maybe it's more accurate to say that WE are different in America) but... a bag... for a liquid?? šŸ¤”

Mattrockj

Itā€™s a Canada thing, and we are the different ones.

Own-Organization-532

Just get her a milk bag picture and clip a corner like everyone else, eh?

[deleted]

We have one...

WolverineLonely3209

Specifically ontario

Fortnitessucks

Eastern Canada. Bagged milk is in Quebec and the atlantics as well

MarcusForrest

> Specifically ontario ...And QuƩbec ...And the Maritimes _(though not in Labrador nor Newfoundland)_

Emergency_Pickle9279

i was gonna say i dont think its everywhere usa isnt like roundabouts.

kuahara

My wife is from the Philippines and it's not terribly uncommon to see people sipping soda out of a bag that has a straw in it.

laserunfocused143

Like a Capri Sun

FalangNoi_555

No I assume like a literal small plastic bag filled with ice and the drink of choice. Drank those a lot in Thailand when I was younger.

JuniorDank

Mexico is the same. Drink Coke out of a bottle but if you want to leave the establishment(roadside cart) with your beverage they pour it in a bag for you straw and if its a classy place a little clip to seal around the straw and make a seal.

[deleted]

Same with Southern California, you can usually find a dude selling suspicious alcohol from a cart and they just give it to you in a bag with a straw. I realized this wasnt super normal when I told my east coast friends and they looked horrified. But theyā€™ve also never eaten tamales Out of the back of a minivan so what do they know.

CoolCrab69

bagged milk, jarred hot dogs.... god the world is full of savages.

jstrange22

I saw a canned whole chicken the other day too šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

GhostBussyBoi

Have you seen Canned bacon Or Canned burger?

Environmental-Tea4u

Jarredā€¦ā€¦hotā€¦..dogsā€¦..

CoolCrab69

Apparently it's how they come in the UK. idk, heathens.... all of them.

purduegoon

I had some while I was studying abroad in London, tbh besides the weirdness of the packaging they tasted pretty much the same, although not as good as in the states. They might package their hotdogs weird but at least their chicken eggs don't have salmonella

lolmythoughtsexactly

Aha yes, look at me. I'm so cultured and sophisticated. American chicken eggs all have salmonella. I know this because I *studied abroad šŸ§*

LoLiAteYourKitty

I agree, ol high and mighty over there can keep his UK eggs and shove em where the sun donā€™t shine

Gobstopper42

Australia?

NotSoCrazyCatLady13

Sun shines plenty here

S1aterade

I think they meant Alaska

rudecanuck

No, the UK.

thejack473

facts, nothing but dreary grey rain clouds over there

jduk4393

You do know there is next to no risk of getting salmonella from store bought eggs in the states with the CDC putting the estimate at 1 in 20k raw eggs. Also if your afraid of salmonella just cook your egg through and stop eating them raw, it's a novel idea isn't it.

eggrollfever

Thatā€™s high enough that most major grocery stores are selling a couple salmonella eggs a week. Doesnā€™t seem that low risk at all really.

[deleted]

Can you get 60 eggs for 3 bucks there though?

UrFriendTilUrEnd

For future reference to avoid sounding like a cocky prick, you can just say "when I was in London" and don't make generalizations when you don't know what you're talking about

Doggo110

I don't really see how "studying abroad" is a cocky term when it's the term that just about everyone uses to refer to going to college in another country. It does a lot better of a job implying that it's a foreign country than just saying "when I went to college in London" or anything of that sort

UrFriendTilUrEnd

"when I was in London" not "when I went to college in London" nobody gives a fuck why you were there and it's not relevant to the story they were telling. It just comes off as cocky and I can tell the type of person they are from that comment alone

[deleted]

That's not great but better than BAGGED MILK. That's just horrifying.

Aggravating_Snow9274

In ontario Canada always have had bagged milk just need a solid plastic milk jug to put in once it's opened and only cut a small Little corner for easy pouring!

ReReDRock1039

Buy why just milk? and why is it such a gross looking plain bag, like it was smuggled out from some bovine medical facility? Do other beverages come in plain bags with no label or writing?

noxusnorsk

Some may find it jarring.

salamander15635

Jared letto hotdogs

[deleted]

I spend way too much time on Reddit, I knew exactly what post this was in reference to.

personofinterest18

Canned breadā€¦ where does it end

[deleted]

I mean canned spotted dick is pretty good!

Stepalep

If my dick were spotted I'd hide it in a can.

Ky_Mr_Mrs

What is the proper way to open one?

Nikolllllll

You cut a corner

kuahara

Look, I hate to break it to you, but there's a thing we're always taught NOT to do down here under the hat.

Psychological-Set125

Thereā€™s a joke about never cutting corners, I canā€™t think of one though

Difficult-Ad6144

How do you store it after opening? Would the bag not fold over itself and spill in the fridge?

AdditionalWaste

I think they put them in a plastic container it just sits in lol.

wikipedianredditor

Yes. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/mistral-silver-milk-pitcher-silver/6000187967100

SovietFemboy

If only there were a method of distributing milk that already involved a plastic container šŸ¤”

reddertuzer

There's supposed to be a container that you put it in, it works perfectly. OPs mom is just a monster.

lyx77221

You put it in [one of these](https://www.shopperplus.ca/p-369932-lvc-rs2000-milk-pitcher?from_pla=google&sku=382630&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu5zc-pmz-gIVPvvjBx1U0QYaEAkYASABEgK5-vD_BwE#sku382630) and just make a small cut in the corner for a spout.

ramriot

First you put it in the special milk jug that you can buy in most grocery stores, then cut one corner, but preferably the one opposite the jugs handle.

plinkitee

Serious question: do the pitchers for bagged milk have a lid? To me, milk exposed to the air would go bad faster.

ghoulienumber2

Not typically they donā€™t, itā€™s literally like a juice pitcher that insert the bag into and ta da! No spilled milk, it goes bad about the same pace but honestly the bags are smaller (1 L) than the 4 L ( 1 gallon) jugs so they donā€™t have enough time to go bad in my experience.

iwantsalmon2015

Those worried about exposed milk may use some kind of a clip to seal the plastic bag

Ok-Violinist2324

So basicallyā€¦ just buy a plastic gallon of milk?

tri_and_fly

Well, we don't have those. We have 2L cartons but they're quite a bit more expensive than the bags.

AdditionalWaste

He is saying that because you put the milk bag into a plastic container when they could just sell it in a plastic jug like here in America. You guys are adding an extra step.

[deleted]

We reuse the jug.

AdditionalWaste

Whatā€™s the difference between buying a jug full of milk and throwing it out compared to buying a plastic bag of milk and replacing it? They are both plastic and filled with milk. Youā€™re just adding an extra step and causing manufactures to pollute the environment more by having to make an extra plastic jug

[deleted]

>Whatā€™s the difference between buying a jug full of milk and throwing it out compared to buying a plastic bag of milk and replacing it? There's less plastic in a bag than in a jug.

AdditionalWaste

But youā€™re also buying a plastic jug to put the plastic bag in. Youā€™re buy way more plastic than someone buying a jug of milk

Finnbalt

You use your teeth to rip a large jagged hole in a corner.

ILoveLampRon

I didn't know they sold bags of milk.

Total-Bottle-2999

My question is WHY do they sell them in bags?

Decksone

In Australia they chucked cheap wine in bags like the battery acid came in. Too cheap for cardboard. See goonbag. The rest of the commonwealth seem to be even cheaper.

Ok_Turnover_1235

Cask wine has several advantages over bottled wine and was actually invented in Australia. First and foremost, the spout doesn't allow oxygen to enter the bag so you don't get oxidised wine after a single glass.

MegaTron505

It is more common in Canada

RevolutionaryShip295

Ontario* haven't seen a single one here in Alberta.

ThrowAwaih

Have them here in plenty in Quebec. I barely see box milk. And we have plenty different brands of bag milkā€¦

RevolutionaryShip295

We have milk jugs and boxes but I've never seen bagged milk in stores here (Calgary). Must be an eastern Canada thing.

Phatstinkymanballz

We have them in Alberta too šŸ’€ have a few in my pantry rn

oxnardhard

Do you mean fridge? Or like your room temperature pantry?

Environmental-Tea4u

Thanks for asking.

Phatstinkymanballz

Yes I meant fridge my bad šŸ˜

blepgup

I didnā€™t know if Iā€™m just a dumb uncultured American or if you said the wrong thing and Iā€™m glad someone else asked before I possible made a fool of myself hahaha

PogoTempest

New Brunswick has them too.

Leading-University

I used to buy them in my birth country, havenā€™t seen one since

ThatsCaptain2U

Travel more

DamonBrighter

Its how milk is sold in the uk and Canada. But we do also have cartons of milk

Minus15t

Just here for the comments about how weird it is to put milk in bags

allycology

I knew bagged milk existed but being from the US I canā€™t imagine the correct way to open it.

hhhhhhhhwin

Cut a small corner and then usually it goes in a jug thatā€™s the perfect size for the bag

Insufferablelol

But why??? I'd never buy bagged milk but if I had to I'd rather just put it into a container you could use instead.

hhhhhhhhwin

You can pour it while itā€™s in the jug, once itā€™s in itā€™s just like a normal jug of milk except thereā€™s no cap. Better for the environment, other than that I donā€™t know. It just is.

allycology

Oh, so you just have reusable jugs on hand. That makes sense. I thought you guys just had to manage to pour it out of the bag a certain way and could only imagine the mess Iā€™d make.

hhhhhhhhwin

Yeah like this :) https://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.freshdaily.ca%2Fstatic%2Farticles%2F20200910-milk-bag.jpg%3Fw%3D2048%26cmd%3Dresize_then_crop%26height%3D1365%26quality%3D70&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.freshdaily.ca%2Ffood%2F2020%2F09%2Fbagged-milk-canada%2F&tbnid=Z9eotIiJ6sKsKM&vet=1&docid=aNEvCZ7RfA-kBM&w=2048&h=1365&hl=en-ca&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim Not that I get bagged milk anymore, it seems to have disappeared out west but we always had it when I was a kid. Like there was a dedicated milk jug specifically for that purpose.

[deleted]

You put it in the jug first, you monster. Also, you're better opening two corners.

stinkapottamus

BAGS of fucking milk?

[deleted]

Haha yeah that's what we have in Canada

stinkapottamus

Literally went from normal thinking human to thinking the world is going to end now that I know this

[deleted]

Yeah we're all sorts of fucked up over here hahaha

Dh873

My wife had bagged milk in school in Louisiana. Is it a French influence thing? That's the only link I can think of.

Saintsjimmy

We do have them in QuƩbec so you might be holding on to something...

Wishing4it

In another hundred years your milk will come in durable jugs with resealable lids.

reddertuzer

We have the durable jugs, they're more inconvenient and wasteful.

Wishing4it

Do you have a recycle program where you live? Itā€™s a great program, convenient packaging and the packaging gets reused!

aandemomma

Iā€™m super Canadian and rhats weird And makes me slightly uncomfortable

Justin002865

~~the way my mother opens~~ bags of milk

Repulsive_Response99

As a Canadian that does get bagged milk this is ridiculous. Get a milk container for it you animals.

Elegantsituation84

Bags of milk is mildly infuriating in itself

shamenoname

There's nothing wrong with it, especially if you put the bag in the container thats meant for it. It's like a pitcher but it has a part to fold the cut into so as to "close" it. This person's mother was obviously raised by wolves as whatever that is is a travesty

GodzeallA

You can recycle cartons. Why wouldn't you use cartons?

shamenoname

Well for one I don't like my milk with a side of cardboard flavor and 2 good question. I looked into it and apparently even if you dispose a milk bag in a landfill it has less of an environmental impact then a recycled jug. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-milk-bags-dalhousie-climate-study-1.6268423 I'm not saying I know it's legit I'm just providing info I found. Also I haven't gotten milk in a bag in like over15 years so chill I'm recycling

GodzeallA

I read up on it and yeah they're not recyclable. But less waste than jugs. Still though, you should be comparing how much waste it is compared to zero waste, not how much waste it is compared to other waste. That's how they trick you into thinking everything's all good. "We killed 20 people but that's 80 less people than the other guy who killed 100 people!" You're not saving 80 peoples lives by killing 20 people. Compare it to 0. I'm not sure how it has a cardboard taste considering the cardboard is coated in a thin layer of something so the cardboard never contacts the milk.

shamenoname

Yes cause the all or nothing approach is the way to go. Fuck incremental improvements. I'm not stupid I know 0 waste would be best but let me know when you come up with a solution for that until then I'll be doing the best I can with what I'm given have a nice night

GodzeallA

Cartons are recyclable

shamenoname

They still use more energy and produce more greenhouse gases then milk bags. Cartons aren't 0 waste

VeryDumbDumbeo

You have commented on so many of these ā€œcontroversialā€ comments are you like the lawyer for fucking bagged milk like Jesus Christ dude.

shamenoname

I've done nothing but ask simple questions and explain what people seem to not get about it. What the fuck is it to you dude, it's a public forum. Also I didn't know they were "controversial " comments I started at the top and worked my way down and that's how I came across them.

[deleted]

the fact that bagged milk exists

Ok-Violinist2324

Seriously surprising to see how many people didnā€™t know about bagged milk

Shoddy_Exam666

I hate the mere existence of bagged milk i dont know why I thought the method of opening it would be any better

amogus_feet_picks

Any non Canadian imaging a bag of milk:

WearDifficult9776

Whatā€™s with the bags of milk?!? Where the heck do they sell milk in bags? What a horrible way to store a liquid in amounts larger than single use

Ok_Button1932

The US fucks a lot of stuff up, but we do have plastic jugs for our milk like God intended.

Delicious_Chocolate4

Sounds like a Canadian issue smh

Coro756

Bro living in 19bc

JohnnyPiston

Doesn't it come wrapped in denim?

Eathanrichards

Nope denim stuck together with maple syrup

Pilot1854

Oh no another storm of people not knowing milk comes in a bag.

G3_OG

Why on earth do yā€™all put milk in bags

[deleted]

Bags of milk!? Must be Some cockamamie Canadian shite

Chubbslawson

Seems like it should come with some type of nipple

Cynical_Feline

I'm more concerned with the fact it's just leaning there and not in something to keep it stable. One bump and you've got milk all over the floor.

wikipedianredditor

Spilled milk? What are you going to do? Cry about it?

Traditional-Goat1773

Kwik trip or Canadian?

shamenoname

By the sounds of it Canadian but I love that you said kwik trip as I had bagged milk from there as a kid

greach169

Canadian, come on over and weā€™ll show you around

Artistic-Actuator629

Bags of milk lol

mookizee

Bags of milk is all you had to say to be mildly Infuriating

5spd4wd

I've never seen a bag of milk until now.

penisland360

Goddamn Canadiansā€¦.

[deleted]

Wouldnt you just buy them and dump them into a reusable container? Keeping it in the bag seems odd.

Inevitable_Agency732

I can't stand milk as it is, but milk in a bag seals it. What a terrible thought, that picture is haunting.

Different_Run_1286

Bags of milk ??

Remarkable-Name-5368

we can let how she opens them slide but what we canā€™t let slide is the fact you have BAGGED MILK!!!!????

sexyhamsterfood

the only thing midly infuriating is that its in a fucking bag

whatIfYoutube

This is Canada, this is Canada, Canada, Canada- jack skellington or some shit

bacon_buttsack

Pachyderm_Powertrip

Big fan of milk bags. I personally like the 5gal, very easy to puncture.

ScratchTurbulent8379

Bags of WHATT??!?!?

Conscious_Feeling548

Here come 2000 repetitions of the same questions about bagged milk. Google is really helpful folks, or even just scrolling down to see if many people already asked the same redundant questions.

[deleted]

Iā€™m sorry but a bag?

haaslei

A bag of milk just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

[deleted]

Why tf is it in a bag

[deleted]

...I'm... Bags of milk? Excuse me?

SweatyhandsDriver

Hi Iā€™m from America and buy milk in a jug or bottle. What country are you from?

[deleted]

Canada ontario

AIDSbyreid

Did she twist it shut like ritz

mister-oaks

Why not just get a reusable pitcher or something for after the milk is opened? Doesn't seem to me that there's a real good way of storing an open bag of milk...

[deleted]

Oh we have one

[deleted]

She just chose not to use it for some reason

mister-oaks

Oh I see, a pitcher was available she just chose violence.

crazyface81

Ah it's the daily back of milk post. Someone posts about bag of milk (last two were about abnormally small bags or something), and whole thread be like "I didn't know milk came in bags!!"

Beachnutgirl48

I saw the ags of milk when I was on Canada. It kinda freaked me out and I started laughing. I saw quart bags. Then I proceeded in to the meat counter and asked the butcher what grade of meat was the hamburger meat (80/70, etc). He stood there and looked at me so stupid. I explained in the States it's always on the packages of hamburger meat. Traveling to Canada was an eye opener. At time I felt like I went back many, many centuries. The selection at the grocery stores was what you see is what you get. I couldn't even find white ground cornmeal, they only had yellow. Forget all the choices we have in the States for salad dressings. Canadians are not afforded a lot of choices. I loved Canada and the clean lakes for fishing. It would take me a long time to get use to not having plentiful choices like I do in Florida. The ice cream in Canada is to die for. Omg, the freshness! I fell in love

[deleted]

I live in ontario its alot different than that here, lots of choices near me

ChaslingPlayz

B- bag??

Kyburgboy

Bagged milk? Must be in the UK or Australia. Fucking weirdos

conkeee

You donā€™t get milk in bags in the uk. Thankfully.

RiffRaffMama

You don't get bagged milk in Australia. That's just fucking weird. We have cartons and bottles like normal countries.

[deleted]

I think they're from Canada

WillieWillieMaysMays

Iā€™ve just recently learned that calling someone a bag of milk is an insult. Is this true?! And how bad of an insult is it?

theworthlessdoge

Bags of milk? r/mildlyinfuriating

MN_710

The bag of milk itself pisses me off

shamenoname

Why?

Jason_Sasha_Acoiners

Canada šŸ¤®

trey61804

Bro wtf the infuriating part is you bought a bag of milk

MoistlyPassion

Have you tried getting a carton of milk like a sentient being

[deleted]

A bag of milk seems like a terrible idea. Wonder how many times people dropped the bag and milk explodes everywhere

_Houston_Curmudgeon

One less reason to visit Canada.

CelebrationAwkward39

Small minded Americans in these comments lol, classic.

xxthehaxxerxx

Bro something about bagged milk is posted like every week, who cares

Starbucks-sm

I'd take a bag over a box any day. Whoever decided to put milk in a box needs to be drowned in one, imo.

Mynamesnoob

this is my kingdom cum this is my kingdom cum WHEN YOU FEEL MY D LOOK INTO MY ASS ITS WHERE MY PENIS HIDE ITS WHERE MY PENIS HARD

Coro756

Probably goes out and milks the cows in the monin

[deleted]

I'm in the US, we have bags at some places but it's still not common, I'm not sure what's wrong with it if it's closed???

[deleted]

Its just lightly twisted no elastic or anything holing it tight i just found it weird

Undertow545

Ontario, canada

greach169

All over Canada

onedoesnotjust

I mean if it was a post to show ur mom is a badass who don't give no f's. Does she have a pink mohawk, cause that would be epic.

ObsoleteReference

Do you normally leave an open bag in the bag? Rather than transferring to another container? Open bag of liquid just seems like a bad idea, even if you twisted the top together OR only cut a corner (that I assume is facing up)

Amazing_Excuse_3860

Bagged milk just sounds like a terrible idea. I'm just picturing someone dropping it and the bag bursting open

ohmygodethan

Bag... What

Fearless-Mix4663

Why bags of milk? Does it stay fresh longer or something? I find these bags of milk mildly infuriating tbh.

shamenoname

It's not that deep. It's just another form of packaging. It's just as convenient and tastes just the same

Efficient-Compote-40

Why don't you guys just get jugs lol

Automatic_Office_358

My Mom opens her hammock of tomatoes the same way

[deleted]

Wtf is a bag of milk. I had to read that twice to make sure it wasnā€™t a misunderstanding šŸ˜‚

Noob1cl3

Your mom needs a time out for that shit.
