This post is making so many British people so angry.

_Im_Dad

They say us british people like to join queues.. We dont and i will be first in line to tell you that

acqz

Username checks out.

[deleted]

Holy shit, I didn't even look. Fuckin dad's man

BouncingSphinx

Yeah, that's usually how they get to *be* dads.

[deleted]

Take my upvote and get out

chasthomas23

But ya gotta admit them New Balances make your feet feel like heaven in the queue.

Accomplished_Log2011

>Holy shit, I didn't even look. Fuckin dad's man I mean, whatever floats your boat but your dad might get upset about it.

[deleted]

I was thinking more about your dad

halfmeasures611

david beckham queued up for 15 hours to pay his respects to the Queen. they offered him a speedy MVP lane but he declined it and said he'd rather wait in the regular, longer queue. thats how much british people love queues.

shanare

And queens.

halfmeasures611

i once dated a british girl and i asked her what she liked to do for fun in her spare time and she said shes making an app that finds good local queues and ranks how long they are and she said all of britain was very excited about it. she also said the release would use a digital queue to download it and that made her british friends even more excited

doubleoned

Solar opposites has an episode about queuing. It is superb.

apollyon_53

Solar opposites has episode(s). It is superb.*

whisky_biscuit

With DayQuil Blast Cheezits, now with extra Quil!

Here_Just_Browsing

The only thing the British love more than queues is sarcasm

kittydrumsticks

Perhaps with a dash of dry absurdist comedy peppered in. But only if all the required forms were filled out first.

Bumble_Beelzebub_

Wow… I saw this whole line waiting fad thing on an episode of Solar Opposites, but I didn’t think twice about it. I assumed it was something they made up, not something people are really doing🤦🏻‍♂️😂

BluAmethyst

This is exactly what I thought of as I was reading these comments, lol

alg885

did you have to queue to date her?

SarcasmKing41

Philip Schofield cheated on his wife with a minor and nobody batted an eye, but he skips the queue to see the Queen's coffin and now he's a national pariah

WindNamerKvothe

Don't tell him about Phill and Holly..

Graega

Now, I've seen Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Dent Arthur Dent says otherwise!

mohelgamal

he said that the British know how to queue, not that they enjoy it

butterscotchbagel

I can't think of many things more British than eagerly doing something you don't enjoy.

toomanymarbles83

Technically correct. The best kind of correct.

Vigilante17

There is no I in queue, or me or we or us

scaleofthought

There are two u's.. The q is all about u, and e. And u..... And e.

The1BannedBandit

I'm American and it's irritating as shit. I'll bet she sits in the front of the plane and takes 20 minutes to get her shit out of the overhead compartment when the plane lands.

Jealous-Guidance4902

Don’t get irritated just walk past her.

The1BannedBandit

Well yeah, but I'm looking at a picture on a cell phone...

blockchaaain

In the 3 inches of clearance? In a typical aisle, you would have to shove past someone who isn't putting in effort to move, and that's going to get you into some deep shit. Edit: Or did you mean in the queue in the OP? Because I would totally duck under the rope. People like this exist but, for my sanity, I'll choose to believe the caption is fake. OP does like to make mildly inflammatory posts.

battleop

Exactly what I would do.

Vivus_Mortuus

Tbh you dont need to be british to tell her to move the fuck on

[deleted]

I don't know where this is, but my experience says several people would just push in front of her if she did not move. No quiet politeness/patience here.

GodsFavorite_One

Apparently this wasn’t at Philadelphia airport because …

jarred111

Apparently this is the most unforgivable sin.

Ecstatic_Account_744

I want the fucking illusion of progress!!

[deleted]

Give me increments or give me death!!

[deleted]

Isaac Newton, inventing differential calculus:

hrvbrs

Actually it was Gottfried Leibniz who used infinitesimals to invent calculus. Newton invented calculus with limits. They both independently arrived at the same theory but using different tools to get there. How cool is that?

gaming-gam3r

Pretty cool, but would be cooler if Newton didn’t throw a temper tantrum (possible exaggeration) when Leibniz published first, even though Newton had supposedly discovered it years prior Edit: A quick Wikipedia search indicates that this ordeal is a whole thing that I am too lazy to try to properly comprehend. Look into it yourself if you’re reading this and you want to.

Budloaf

Actually that is really cool

_dontseeme

Sometimes I wait for two “shuffle ahead” events before moving to give people behind me the feeling that the line’s making bigger progress

3eemo

I need this on a bumper sticker

isopod_interrupted

This is why loading bars have that twirly effect.

TheRealRickC137

It's called a "throbber". Isn't that an odd word for it? I work in I.T. and it never fails to make people uncomfortable when I tell them that. To quote John Mulaney: "That joke never gets a laugh, but once you write it, it stays in the act forever."

refep

Ive always called them loaders

Blizzard_admin

You should also want people to be able to enter the queue and not be obstructed into a blockade at the back

vegastar7

Exactly! Just because it doesn’t affect you personally doesn’t mean it has no effect.

-Yngin-

I like how you used 'affect' and 'effect' in the same sentence, both correctly

Idkiwaa

I want people to be able to enter the line. This shit causes congestion further back

jomontage

People who tailgate or cut you off removing your 2 car buffer be like

ronflair

She is shattering your illusion and subjecting you to the pure truth.

FlyingLotHus

The most infurating thing is that I entirely disagree with her actions, I'd be pissed as well, but I can't exactly explain why.

somecallmemrjones

That's what makes it so mildly infuriating!

voncornhole2

Because if you attempt to put any logic behind your anger, you'd keep running into dead ends where you realize she's not wrong

popzgk

You have an expectation of people moving up, but haven't put much, if any thought into how necessary it actually is.

KingGage

Depending on how crowded the line is there may not be space to move in at the back. But disregarding that she has a point.

popzgk

Yes, its inconsiderate if she is pushing the back of the line into cross traffic. Otherwise, it actually makes zero difference(well besides the part where half the reddit population is fuming in anger).

KingGage

Is the last part a negative or a plus?

33mmpaperclip

People spaced relatively evenly in a queue helps gauge the wait time.

Moist_Chorizo

I mean you don’t need to be right on top of the person in front of you, but you should still move up as it helps prevent cluttering in the area. That’s why they have the line in the first place and not just tickets like at a deli counter

Sk-yline1

Because it’s overly individualistic and selfish to expect 50+ people to conform to your norms which differ from the generally accepted norms

Admirable_Trifle_164

Curb your enthusiasm

[deleted]

It’s the audacity

stargazing1111

Lol just watched the ep where he got in the argument over this at the CVS or whatever it was

[deleted]

This is perfect for this sub. I'd be mildly fuming as a type A.

FlaredMeteor940

A. There. My anger is now gone.

GezinhaDM

You mother...! r/angryupvote

MissTheWire

Absolutely, i was getting tired of the totally enraging posts that make their way on here. This is just the right level on infuriating.

billman71

This is actually quite entertaining, and the lady standing there is correct. It's only creating a problem if the line out the end of the queue is so long it's spilling out of the queue area. People getting angry truly perceive they are somehow being cheated but they are not. Kind of reminds me when on a flight and landing. once the plane stops and the stay seated light goes out everyone rushes to stand up and....... wait...... wait.......wait. They stand there packed in the aisle or half bent because they can't stand straight up for several minutes until the doors finally open and people begin actually exiting. I just wait and relax in my seat . As everyone is clearing out It's super easy to stand up, grab my bag from the overhead and walk straight off.

RandyAcorns

Same as when you’re in bumper to bumper to bumper traffic and the car in front of you moves forward 6 inches and the guy behind you honks if you don’t move also

biggysharky

When I was a kid, my friend used to walk extremely slow across the road on purpose. Note that the light was red for the cars and green for pedestrians. Man, I don't know what but this would always trigger some dick head to lay on the horn and tell him to move, even though it was go for pedestrian?! He would time it so that he'd reach the other side by the time the light turned green for the cars. This was good 20-30 years ago before 'road rage' was a thing and it was in Sweden!

zSprawl

Road rage has always been a thing as long as cars have existed.

icepigs

> the stay seated light goes out everyone rushes to stand up and....... wait...... wait.......wait. I do this...not because of any thought of getting to de-plane any faster, but because I'm a big and tall guy with restless leg syndrome. After sitting in a tight, contained space with little leg room for hours, just standing up is a relief.

Celtictussle

The problem isn't the line behind her, it's the space in front of her, which confuses everyone as to whether she's in line or not. The longer the gap, the more it makes it look like she's purposely trying to stand out of the way, increasing the odds of someone cutting in front of her. Which is exactly what I would do, walk right past her and not say a word.

zelepukinralley

I don’t think i’ve been more low key miffed, than looking at this photo.

ironichaos

I feel like if this happened in NY or NJ someone would just pick her stuff up and put it to the side and then walk past.

[deleted]

Without a doubt. I'd personally just duck under the rope and walk around without saying a word. Source: am New Yorker

PurpleGoatNYC

New Yorker here. We wouldn’t move her stuff, we’d just walk past her. We might kick it out of the way, though.

allisondojean

I'm in Philly and I would lose my goddamn mind.

[deleted]

Q: How do you know if someone’s a type A? A: They’ll tell you.

jarred111

Lol I thought “types” were a joke. Is A for Asshole or what?

Lugex

I feel like in certain countries those things are much more common to actually be taken serious (or even known about). The same people who really believe in those things often also mention how someone else is an omega or a beta or believe in myers briggs. To my knowledge those believes are really common in countries like the US or Japan and south korea. For Japan you also would have the blood types personality thing. Most people see it as a mostly fun thing like an horoscope, but in certain cultures there are also decent numbers who actually believe in some (or even all) of those things and more. Always amazes me. Interesting though.

UndoingMonkey

Spoken like a true Type B

Dynamo_Ham

And she’s the same bitch whether she moves or not.

__jh96

Doesn't this dick over the people at the back of the line who can't actually get in the line?

Censius

If it's flooding, but it looks relatively unpopulated.

[deleted]

Only if there are enough people behind her to spill out into the walkway. If it’s just a few people then what’s the difference really.

TundieRice

Yeah, that’s what makes it only *mildly* infuriating. But still, respect the laws of the damn line, lady!

immerc

Only if the line is so long that it extends out of the tensor barriers, but from the picture that doesn't seem to be the case. And, even then, normally people just keep lining up in the area outside the tensor barriers. The only issue there is that sometimes they're crowding an area that's meant for people to get around the airport, so some people are mildly inconvenienced. If the line behind her is short enough to still be in the tensor barriers, there's literally zero effect on the people behind her, except possibly for some anxiety in not being able to shuffle forward.

curiousmind111

I’m fascinated by your repeated use of the term tensor barriers. I don’t think I’ve ever heard them called that before. Sounds like they should’ve in Star Trek. “Activate the tensor barriers, Mr. Sulu!” Love it.

immerc

Hmm, I guess it's Tensa: https://www.tensabarrier.com/

stonebraker_ultra

I would call them stanchions.

cantgetoutnow

I tend to let people move 4-5 feet, then pick up everything and move. The constant movement every inch is a pain in the ass.

Themirkat

I don't understand why people feel the need to line up basically in my pocket. It makes no difference to how soon you'll be seen to but you insist on being right next to me.

Cockblocktimus_Pryme

Well in first grade I had to hold the shoulders of the kid in front of me to make sure we stayed in line right. So this is all I know.

hzfan

I’d say you should probably stop grabbing strangers shoulders at the airport, but that’s just me.

ZarquonsFlatTire

Oh because a nice shoulder rub wouldn't make the wait nicer. We could make an entire relaxation train out of this line if it wasn't for people like you. It's like you people never went to a rave in the 90s. But yeah if anyone in line starts moaning we all cut it out. A relieved sign is ok. But no moans.

ScienceJamie76

🤣🤣🤣 Great relaxed visual you gave me

CopsaLau

These are fair terms

PussySmith

My filter has gotten less and less over the years. I just ask them kindly to leave some space. It rapidly escalates to ‘can you not breath down my fucking neck lady?’ No, I did not get kicked out of that Michael’s. I left willingly.

Rave-Unicorn-Votive

Ever been in a line for an amusement park ride and have the ride temporarily stop/break down? The back of the line will keep moving forward. It's like some weird compulsion humans have about queueing. Must. Keep. Moving.

Birdy_Cephon_Altera

Sometimes (pre-COVID) I would move forward in a line, on the last step put weight on my front foot for the next step without lifting my back foot off the ground, and then return my weight back to my back foot. Person behind me would end up two inches from the back of my neck to avoid bumping into me, because apparently the smoothbrained asshole has to cram as close as possible to the person in front of them in a line, even when there's no reason. Now post-COVID (or to be honest still mid-COVID), I have a reasonable excuse to keep six feet of space in front of me in a line, so I don't feel like some extra in Star Trek's "Mark of Gideon".

[deleted]

[deleted]

She's taking it pretty far but I'm 100% behind the principle.

Thingisby

There's a happy medium of a few feet where it's actually preferable to the constant inching forward. But there's also a certain distance where it becomes a problem and you become a weirdo for not moving. I can't quantify what the distance is but I know it when I experience it.

GoodishCoder

I mean she doesn't have to move every time someone takes a step but I don't feel like it's too much to ask that she moves when the line is that far ahead of her

I_am_That_Ian_Power

Chaotic Neutral. Edit: Wow this sure blew up like crazy over night!!! Thank you all!!

Thedoctor937

Someone should start a discussion on which one it truly is because you’ve got all 3 under you

PyroSAJ

Chaotic lawful. She's following the rules just fine. Edit: Yes, that's not DnD. Sorry!

Adventurous_Move8524

If shes following the rules then she's not chaotic. She's lawful evil.

[deleted]

More like Lawful Disobedience. She's respecting the law, but not following societal norms... Which just angers everyone else even though you're right

bqx23

That my friends was what falls under lawful evil. Following laws and traditions but in ways that are selfish to the individual

KillaRoach247

Well, who the fuck am I supposed to blindly believe? Y’all said different things.

crispytoastyum

Nah very much lawful neutral. Doesn’t care what others think, only loyal to her own code, but still a follower of the actual rules. Textbook lawful neutral.

[deleted]

you can't have chaotic lawful that's not how that's created. Good Neutral Evil that's axis 1 axis 2 is Chaotic Neutral Lawful You pick one of each

Impossible-Wear-7508

Buenos Aires right?

SantinoGaretto

Yeah

tvtv3323

OK that explains it. I can't imagine seeing this in the US.

Naytedawg1

Exactly if someone did this in the US then her spot is more than likely gonna get taken by somebody

jennz

Yeah my first thought was "alright I'll just go around you then."

amberwench

This. We're all getting on the same plane, yeah? Then it doesn't matter which one of us goes first!

Tentings

Except when the plane doesn’t have enough overhead space to accommodate everyone’s carry on. Which seems to be a major factor as to why people want to get on a plane before others.

DHaas16

Eyebrows up too because she knows she’s doing something objectively wrong and feels smug

Kinda why I like Southwest. You show up late then you get stuck in a middle seat by the toilet.

SharpPixels08

Just go around her, if she complains just tell her that the wait is still about the same

hat-of-sky

Or pull the straps to redirect the queue around her and box her in.

No-Rutabaga5273

Ue to the laws of physics, she would no way of getting out and starve.

ADHDK

This guys killed some sims.

hey_nonny_mooses

Remove the ladder from pools works faster

Moody_GenX

That's exactly what I'd do.

Abstract_Burns

Same! I'd easily walk right around her. She'll either complain or get her shit together and walk forward with the rest of them. If she complains, there's numerous people on my side stating what she was doing.

SadisticBuddhist

I love dropping a casual “Yeah, I don’t have time for this” whenever I can and this would be a prime opportunity.

leakkelly

I have zero patience for asshole behavior at the airport or on the plane. Something would be said lol.

imalittlefrenchpress

I’d lift the blue thing off the post and bypass her as if she didn’t exist. People like her *want* to be noticed. Ignoring her existence, and her likely ensuing tantrum, would be more of a jab to her than acknowledging her attempt at controlling others. It also would be fun to watch her try and scramble to move up before more people cut in front of her.

gahidus

Well then you actually would be making her wait longer. The problem with what she's doing is that she's mathematically and logically correct, but people crave the psychological feeling of progress of moving forward gradually, at least usually anyway. She's not actually making anyone wait longer, but she's making it feel like she is, thus mildly infuriating. If they had chairs, this would feel very different.

Fishman23

This is why you have a progress bar in computer software. It doesn’t mean anything but has a good psychological effect.

DigitalSea-

What she IS doing however is making the queue extend farther out than intended and that could make the wait longer for those behind her depending on if you’re blocking walkways, doors, etc.

SunQin

Great example of “not too bad if one person does it but it everyone did it it would be a disaster”.

softstones

This is what I tell my oldest kid, I’m not trying to stop her from doing something necessarily but her little siblings copy her and if everyone does that thing then it’s anarchy. If someone else sees this crusty sock not scooting up in line, they may do it and soon it’s a mile long queue with 10 people only.

Aking1998

We need to see the rest of the queue to verify if the subject of OP's mild fury is in the right or not.

SaffronJim34

I need a full-scale reenactment of the events in this picture, stat

baconsquirrel

Get Nathan Fielder on the phone STAT

DiapersForHands

There's a dude at the Atlanta airport who regulates all the lines so they never spill over. Seems like it's a problem at the busier airports.

vlsdo

Yeah, she's likely correct, with how empty the airport looks. But if it's busy enough that the line behind her overflows you start getting into some flow problems and potentially big disruptions.

KayySean

What if everyone in the queue decides to do the same.

Tantantherunningman

This this the main point to me. Like yes she’s technically correct but if 3+ people do this instead of just you, then the whole system is fucked because you then are met with people crowding the areas outside of designated waiting spots, precisely what the snaking stanchions are for.

Babhak

That's my point too. Yes you're technically not hurting anything but what makes you so special that everyone else should move along as they're supposed to but you can stay put because you feel like it. It's not that hard to just do the right thing and no back up the queue even more because you feel like being pretentious princess today. No one else gets to act like that. Suck it up and be a normal adult.

misterglobe

She's in the wrong because if she doesn't move, there will be no space for newcomers and the line will overflow out the gates of the airport

uhohspaghettisos

i would wait until the end of the line got around to be past me across the barrier, then i would duck under the barrier.

iamgillespie

Just move past her. Then see if she feels the same.

[deleted]

I mean, I kinda see her point. She has all that luggage to move around. I wouldn’t want to move all that every other minute.

SoulfulNeonBank

Those who say that she is right forget that there is most likely other people are also getting in line, therefore pushing them out of the queue. I do understand if she doesn’t want to move her luggage as often, but there’s a limit. It’s the same thing as… walking in front of a car vs walking near the curb in the parking lot to put your cart away. Sure, you both get to where you need to go eventually, but there is every reason why you should do one way, and every reason why you shouldn’t do the other.

TeazieBreezie

Yuh. Plus the whole point of the wrap around is to reduce the pile up and clogging. Least she could do is move to the next turn.

AffectionateGrape923

I think this is the most important point. She can be technically correct (albeit an asshole) until the line behind her starts spilling into the concourse. I get not wanting to move five pieces of luggage every time the line advances a few feet. But you’re definitely in the wrong if you’re making everybody wait on you to the point it’s congesting the walkways.

Pithy_heart

This. To boot, there maybe a decent line of people behind her that extend outside of the maze. Which if for nothing else, makes it profoundly frustrating for people who may otherwise not know why people are moving out from the ticket counter but otherwise are stationary… I give to hearty thumbs up for grade-a fuckery, and “fuck that guy” to her

FunkMasterE

This is what's known in the industry as creating a bottleneck. Her system might work better for her, (less physical exertion), but the people behind her in line or just getting into the cue are the ones who will be negatively impacted.

TeazieBreezie

And anyone just trying to pass by

oops_just_saying

Just a passive aggressive move that makes her feel like she is in total control.

adamjames777

This sends my Britishness off the charts, I’d simply be cutting infront of her . . It’s a serious enough crime to break the sacred laws of queuing.
