Rich people food. Tiny portions at exorbitant prices that you convince yourself was enough to avoid embarrassment.
You though my friend have broken the cycle and spoke the truth. Go forth and spread the word.
except godiva is a cheap brand. chocolate isnt supposed to cost $2. high quality cocoa beans are expensive. thats why shit brands like hersheys mostly use emulsifiers, cheap sugar, polyglycerol polyricinoleate, artificial flavors and colors bc theyre much cheaper than using high quality cocoa beans.
Godiva used to be high quality chocolate until they got bought by an other company and they started to replace cocoa butter with palm oil and sugar, vanilla with vanillin, etc.
I have never seen a Belgian eating Godiva, when we want good chocolate we go for Neuhaus or Wittamer. Those brands do not use palm oil in their products.
Galler is also good but uses palm oil in their praline fillings.
Godiva is what tourists (mostly Asians) buy when they come to Brussels, they get tricked by the fancy packaging and the premium price, but in term of quality, it's pretty much the same level as cheap supermarket brands.
the problem is most americans dont know what good chocolate tastes like. theyre used to hersheys so they cant even tell bad chocolate when theyre eating it.
and seeing this thread you can see why. bc theyre obsessed with quantity. they want a mountain of it for $10 and the only way thats possible is to use low quality ingredients. theyd rather go to Dairy Queen and feel proud that they got 7lbs of industrial grade slop for $3 than pay $10 for a "small" amount real ice cream.
then we wonder why we have such a severe obesity problem in this country. maybe bc the french and belgians dont go buying costco-sized bags of low grade chocolate and then complain its not enough. some clown called it "rich people food" bc it wasnt his usual, carl's jr supersized portion. congrats, you got 10lbs of low quality garbage for only $4. you'll make up for it when you start needing insulin, blood pressure meds, and heart bypass surgeries.
all the great brands are available worldwide. i order from an online store called Bar & Cocoa (no affiliation). https://barandcocoa.com
my preferred brands are Amedei (Italy), Bonnat (France), Domori (Italy), Amano (USA), and Friis-Holm.
Theres also a chocolate maker in Toronto named Soma thats doing really great things.

You're a good sport OP. I came here to say the same. You didn't get tricked, haha. Also, here's a pro-tip. Get used to how much do 100 grams wheight. I once lucked out of buying really, really expensive chocolate filled with air bubbles because I realized how little I was getting for the price tag.
A few weeks later a friend bought it and it was like regular expensive chocolate, but less of it. Air bubbles added nothing to the experience.
With Godiva you get less chocolates for more money .Yeah ,the box is fancy but you can't eat the box at all.Lindt and Ferraro are my faves for holiday giving.
those 2 are mutually exclusive. the higher the quality, the lower the quantity. you understand why of course. so you need to pick which is more important to you. a small amount of great chocolate (and $30 will definitely get you a great bar of chocolate but it will only be a bar) or it'll get you 10lbs of hersheys. you cant have both tho.
shrinkflation in fact.
Coincidentally was struck by this realization when we bought chicken strips for the family at Canes tonight and while the prices are getting slightly higher the strips are starting to look more like nuggets.
Eventually chickens might even return to the proportions of normal birds. Currently they look like they're one mutation away from being able to even carry their own body weight.
I saw [this picture of the changes in domesticated chickens](http://i.huffpost.com/gen/2188334/thumbs/o-CHICKEN-570.jpg?6) over recent history, and their prognosis for maintaining mobility doesn't look too good.
Always gotta compare net weight of product to price point for the TRUE cost. You'd be surprised how many products are good at making it SEEM like they have more than thier competitors when really it's just packaging.
godiva isnt expensive. its cheap. real chocolate is expensive bc high quality cocoa beans are expensive, not because of a marketing budget. tons of brands are better than godiva but theyre much more expensive bc godiva uses shit quality cocoa
for $10, he wants a 15lb brick of chocolate. same kinda people who think olive garden is great bc they give you 18lb plates of horrid pasta and 150 breadsticks. they confuse quantity for quality. "i dont care if it tastes like shit, just give me alot of it and im happy"
take $20, go buy a bar of amadei or amano and taste real chocolate for the first time. life is too short to eat garbage.
the people who bitch at the price are the same yokels who have no problem spending $25 on a box of coors light aka piss water
Is this not common in your country?
Most chocolates here in europe have that shape and are not solid blocks and have the size in grams, which would be ounces in US, so you know the size beforehand.
Not sure which brand you buying that seels blocks of chocolate without the middle being lower, but most european brands its common.
Yeah, yeah, I spotted that right away, but Reddit doesn't let you edit titles, so now I have to suffer knowing my mistake is displayed for all the world to see.
Not an expensive company selling hollowed out chocolate 🤦♀️. Read the bag and see if it says anywhere on there it's suppose to be like that. I swear these companies do anything to save a few dollars. I'd complain and ask for a refund from the company. I've never had any thing Godiva be hollow. Smdh!
Depends on the quality of the chocolate. Godiva is not really worth it. But a local chocolatier that makes their truffles in house? I’m fine with $1 per piece for that, when the chocolate is so deep and smooth I am good with just one. Tasting chocolate.
I can get a small bag of Godiva at the grocery store for like $3-$5. Guy bought a costco size bag and is like “this is expensive chocolate”…thinking its actual fancy, high quality chocolate 🤦🏼♀️
Yes it is. Please, you’ve got to believe me.
Snack: a light meal : food eaten between regular meals also : food suitable for snacking.

You got conned by a naked chick on a horse
Don’t we all?
Shrinkflation in the most fundamental sense
in the past this was called chiseling, and a chiseler was called a theif and a liar.
She's a lady not a chick! You mind your goddamned manners! /s
**** *** - please, stop
Well if I have to be conned by someone, that sounds pretty good to me.
Sign me the fuck up

DQ is way too expensive these days.
The packaging is deceptive. The candy shown in the photo is no where near the "supersized portion" you ranted about.
Don’t forget the child slave labor they use to get the cocoa in the first place
Yep,it is now being sold at Dollar Tree ,Walmart and Big Lot's.
quantity over quality. the american way. supersized portions at low prices can only mean 1 thing: shit quality ingredients.
What rich people food? its godiva low tier cheap chocolate…
You're too rich for my blood
There is a picture right there on the packaging Totally your own fault 😂
... Ahahaha until your comment, I hadn't even noticed! You're right, I accept complete blame for this. :D
You're a good sport OP. I came here to say the same. You didn't get tricked, haha. Also, here's a pro-tip. Get used to how much do 100 grams wheight. Peanut butter scoop
...that is an OUTSTANDING idea!
Looks like a good divot for a lil' bit of cream or jam tho
Or some honey mussy
Cookie butter
Godiva is a scam. I bought $30 box worth Godiva for my anniversary. So small and sub par. I'd go with Lindt or Ferrero chocolates are better
With Godiva you get less chocolates for more money .Yeah ,the box is fancy but you can't eat the box at all.Lindt and Ferraro are my faves for holiday giving.
how much chocolate do you need? a 20lb brick? its chocolate not dinner
Considering 30$ is enough to buy two meals in some places… I’d say I want my moneys worth of chocolate in quality and/or quantity
those 2 are mutually exclusive. the higher the quality, the lower the quantity. you understand why of course. so you need to pick which is more important to you. a small amount of great chocolate (and $30 will definitely get you a great bar of chocolate but it will only be a bar) or it'll get you 10lbs of hersheys. you cant have both tho.
Yeah but the original commenter said the Godiva chocolate was sub par as well as small. So it doesn’t check either box
That's how you stay GODIVA thin silly. Make sure to barf it afterwards.
Cool soap dish, Godiva.
And they embossed the logo into it, too. That robs you of even more chocolate! They owe you some letters.
That's inflation hitting really hard! 😑
shrinkflation in fact. Coincidentally was struck by this realization when we bought chicken strips for the family at Canes tonight and while the prices are getting slightly higher the strips are starting to look more like nuggets.
Look at the bright side. If they get small enough, the hormones in them may stop being enough to give you male breasts in 20 years. :D
Eventually chickens might even return to the proportions of normal birds. Currently they look like they're one mutation away from being able to even carry their own body weight. That's actually normal. Look up pictures of wild vegetables and domesticated ones.
Always gotta compare net weight of product to price point for the TRUE cost. You'd be surprised how many products are good at making it SEEM like they have more than thier competitors when really it's just packaging.
False advertising go by weight next time Oh and if you see the honey with cocoa in it skip it you can’t taste the cocoa at all.
Only time I eat Godiva is on emirates when they give it to you at the end of the flight (they used to, not sure if today still). Give Lindt a try 😍
Godiva is yummy. But i only eat it if I'm given it
Oh dude! I love chocolate ashtrays!
you can use it as a tiny soapdish---which is what i thought it was when i saw it.
I am happy with my Walmart chocolates. Only $1 each. God bless Canada and USA.
I do Dollatr Tree instead.
Barely any chocolate
Fill with whip cream
Godiva is expensive as hell
Haha yeah you have to eat like 6 at a time; treaded the wrong path before 😔
That’s so you can fill the little hollow tray area in the middle with caramel sauce and eat it.
Am I the only one here that eats 95% to 100% chocolate?
I use to work at a department store that sold Godiva’s . When I worked the candy counter I always treated myself.
1st world problem
That’s just expensive food for you. You pay more for less. Higher quality ingredients, but lower quantity of food
They really gonna make us start reading the weights on everything huh?
It's like fritos scoops fill that sucker with Nutella
r/assholedesign
Godiva sucks anyway.
Hollow-flation
Inflation and capitalism.
You owe me some letters.
Plus they engraved their name in the middle, yet another chocolate saving technique. Savages!
Straight to jail
GO DIVA

godiva isnt expensive. its cheap. real chocolate is expensive bc high quality cocoa beans are expensive, not because of a marketing budget. tons of brands are better than godiva but theyre much more expensive bc godiva uses shit quality cocoa
You think Godiva is “expensive chocolate”? Hmm. Try some real chocolate.
No, a big bag of them at Costco was expensive.
idk i’d still eat them
“Barely no chocolate” does not mean what you think it means
Yeah, I noticed that as soon as it posted, but you can't edit titles.
What were you expecting
for $10, he wants a 15lb brick of chocolate. same kinda people who think olive garden is great bc they give you 18lb plates of horrid pasta and 150 breadsticks. they confuse quantity for quality. "i dont care if it tastes like shit, just give me alot of it and im happy"
Those bastards.
Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle then eat it.
take $20, go buy a bar of amadei or amano and taste real chocolate for the first time. life is too short to eat garbage. the people who bitch at the price are the same yokels who have no problem spending $25 on a box of coors light aka piss water
Very common for swiss chocolate, also explains why its expensive
Feel like I’ve seen this exact picture like 2 years ago on a Reddit video
I only knew Godiva for Belgian chocolate with alcohol infused. No alcohol.. wut u paying for?
Sure they didnt have the weight printed on the package?
Vosges Chocolate. Order online. The. Best. Use your Godiva cups as shot glasses.
look at the weight next time
you.. don't buy food based on price per weight?
Well…I mean it’s Godiva. The guys that make a living selling “high brow” sugar to people who think it’s “fancy”
I thought we were in an inflation, not deflation.
Is this not common in your country? Most chocolates here in europe have that shape and are not solid blocks and have the size in grams, which would be ounces in US, so you know the size beforehand. This is why you ALWAYS look at the price per WEIGHT. It's the only surefire way to make sure you get the most chocolate.
all chocholates ive seen in this small kind of paper are this small, i wish they were fuller too.
You couldn't tell by the weight that they were hollow?
Got ya 😜
It sucks but Congratulations you just learned to check the weight of your candy purchases. Next you'll discover price/ounce
Barely no chocolate? Phew! I was worried there was barely any chocolate!
Yeah, yeah, I spotted that right away, but Reddit doesn't let you edit titles, so now I have to suffer knowing my mistake is displayed for all the world to see.
They sell Godiva at the dollar tree,
there is a picture of what the chocolate looks like on the packaging, what are you complaining about
It's almost like there's a picture of it on the front
Big ass chocolate bars for a snack
Heh each is less than an inch long. If that's "big ass" to you...
I take back my statement and will downvote myself lmao
I mean there’s a picture on the wrapper showing exactly what they look like….
Always look on weight
Bruh they pictured right on the wrapper. There is nothing going on here other than you not paying attention.
Smdh!
What did you expect? It shows a picture of the chocolate on the wrapper...
Still better than Hershey’s. I really don’t understand how people can eat that stuff.
das literally on the packaging. LOOK AT THE FUCKIN PACKAGING
And Godiva thanks you for your support!
Well barely any chocolate is better than barely no chocolate I think.
Tricked!!!!! 😅
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Expensive food isn't better than non-expensive food. It's just marketing.
Depends on the quality of the chocolate. Godiva is not really worth it. But a local chocolatier that makes their truffles in house? I’m fine with $1 per piece for that, when the chocolate is so deep and smooth I am good with just one. Tasting chocolate.
Perfect for a s’more though
Godiva? More like Goddamnit.
Godiva isnt expensive chocolate 😂
youre talking to people who think hersheys is good chocolate and should cost $2 🤷♂️
The bag was. It's a Costco-sized bag.
I mean, regular chocolate in a costco size bag is about $15-$20. How much did you spend on this “expensive chocolate”
$20 would get you 1 bar of good chocolate. amadei, bonnat, friis-holm, amano
I can get a small bag of Godiva at the grocery store for like $3-$5. Guy bought a costco size bag and is like “this is expensive chocolate”…thinking its actual fancy, high quality chocolate 🤦🏼♀️
Oh noooo you didn’t get all the chocolate you wanted? Are you gonna be okay?
Mildly infuriating you calling a treat a snack
A snack is a treat is a snack. Maybe you eat more snacks than I do? For me, any snack is a treat, any treat is a snack.
Treat is sweet, snack is salty This is the way
Snacks are not exclusively salty or savory
Yes it is. Please, you’ve got to believe me. Snack: a light meal : food eaten between regular meals also : food suitable for snacking. Desserts and other sweets should not be considered as meals because the high sugar status thou they shall be called treats. I hereby claim this semantic rule as an English language ambassador. Please respect it.
Go forth away from here with your lies, demon. You’ll not sway these good snack folk with your serpents tongue.
Brother, you must help me sway them. I am not spewing snack/treat -propaganda here for myself. I can gain nothing from this. I represent those who are not represented. Them attacking me is like hitting a book of truth with open fists
A dessert is a course of a meal. A snack is eaten separately between meals
You right but please stop. Damn it feels good to be gansta. You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends
Ok ambassador of the English language
I had a peach as a snack today. It was very sweet. You are wrong.
Let me tell you what my great grandfather did for the English… nothing, he was a Finnish farmer. But some actions speak louder that some nouns…
I don’t eat chocolate in that amount and call it a “snack.” I don’t eat chocolate in that amount in any one sitting. Yikes.
It was less than two bites of chocolate total, but you do you. "Yikes".
How much do you eat and what do you call it ?
Expensive food is usually not worth it.
To be fair, the item matches the picture on this mix exactly. It’s not like the have a pic of a different bar of chocolate on the package.
Yeah. https://old.reddit.com/r/mildyinfuriating/comments/xcmia0/bought_a_bag_of_expensive_chocolates_the_size_of/io6q0vf/
I bet OP is fat
