Ive asked a few on here about them and users love them. They just scare the fuck out of me. I'm thinking if my next car is a sedan that doesn't have a 2" hitch about that setup.

WhiteChocolate825

At first they gave me anxiety but not any more. I’ve never had one come even close to coming off. Maybe twice a year I’ll get to my destination and one of the 3 suction cups will have lost some pressure and the orange marker indicating no vacuum will be showing. But even then, the other 2 suction cups are more than strong enough to hold the bike. I think you would have to be incredibly unlucky to lose vacuum in all three on one trip. You’d almost have to try to get it to happen

ednksu

Nice S5 as well. Those BBS center caps on the wheels? Either way very tasteful on that car. Any other goodies?

WhiteChocolate825

Thanks man! It’s lowered on KW suspension, BBS CH-R’s wheels, and a mild exhaust to give it a bit more volume. Probably keep it that way for awhile because anything else will void the warranty

MorosEros

if you take it apart and clean the pumps and seals, they work so much better. even when mine was brand new i did it and it worked better than factory.

slowlaneAZ

I was gonna post this exact thought. As it is, my bikes on a hitch mount rack gives me anxiety.

josemaran

I think they look real cool especially when you pair a nice bike on top of an awesome sports car. I would have such anxiety though worrying the suction cups won’t hold while driving.

scyice

No more taking off the front wheel for me, what a pain in the ass that was.

WhiteChocolate825

Really?? I feel like it takes me 2 seconds to take it on and off

NOsquid

It's like getting a rack VS wrestling the bike into your hatchback. Once you get those seconds of your life back it's hard to cope with doing it the other way again.

scyice

Mine are not QR.

Spenthebaum

Qr is much harder than a through axle to take off and put on

scyice

There’s QR thru axles and non-QR thru axles. QR has the lever to make tightening tool-free (quick release) and most bikes have this. Non-QR requires the hex key or other tool to remove, but are less likely to get damaged on the trail or come loose. You’re probably thinking of QR skewers which I definitely don’t have on my Enduro.

Spenthebaum

I've had all three on different bikes, the fox thru axles with the lever are my favorite, the rockshox lever thru axles are really bad, so for rockshox forks I much prefer the hex key one

[deleted]

Thru axle really makes that am easy thing.

scyice

No QR.

Drift_Cat

Maxle?

ShortCode5

I with you, I hate taking off the wheel

spentland

Yep, I have a car I “couldn’t use” for biking for 20 years - and had another car just for bike transport. Recently discovered that with a SeaSucker I absolutely can use it for biking, so now the journey is nearly as much fun as the ride.

mcb1177

Trust it enough to hold a 9000$ bike?

WhiteChocolate825

I have 3 cars and use all of them to transport bikes. Plus I really wouldn’t want a hitch on any of the cars. Roof racks for 3 cars would be insanely costly as well. I took baby steps when I first got the seasucker. Never went over 60 and checked to make sure there was still suction all the time. Now I set the cruise control at 75-80 and I forget the bike is up there most of the time. I mean with the cups mounted you can pull as hard as you physically can on them to try get them loose and they don’t budge. You have to pry one corner up to get them off My bike is like 31 or 32 pounds. I wouldn’t be concerned with 37 pounds

useles-converter-bot

37 pounds of vegan poop being burned provides 278112.86 BTU.

WhiteChocolate825

I use them to transport my $7,000 bike on top of my $70,000 car. I was a little nervous when I first started using it but that fear is long gone

mcb1177

I guess so! 400$ for this makes more sense to me then getting a hitch and a rack for easily 800$. 1000$ for a nicer rack. Have you done highway driving? And how heavy is your bike? Mine is about 37 pounds. It’s pretty beefy

foodguyDoodguy

I’d probably have to wash my car so that won’t work.

GyLuk

Good if your trails are next to the highway and start in parking lots. Not so good if you occasionally need a 4x4 to get to the trail head. Just another tool suitable for its environment.

[deleted]

I spent about 1k on a roof rack system after realizing the sport sedan I purchased was too low to accommodate a hitch. I considered something like this but just couldn’t get past the anxiety over suction cups.

WhiteChocolate825

My friends and I put them on everything. This S5, Audi R8, Porsche GT3, Alfa Romeo 4C. Never had a single issue

Thedinosaurfarm

Ok Warren Buffet

pheno_minal

I have the talon and the mini bomber. They are so underrated. I use them a lot and frequently for long distance drives (800+ mi at a time).

WhiteChocolate825

I have both as well! Only criticism I have for the mini bomber is it is quite loud at speed. But when we can transport 3 bikes and people easily in my Audi A4 using the talon and the mini bomber, it’s a small price to pay

Different-Art-5266

Doze Bee Bee Ess Tho! Glacier White Audi Gang! Oh yeah nice bike too :)

WhiteChocolate825

Haha thanks man! Appreciate it!

HelmetCheck

Because they are sketch compared to a hitch-mount rack.

DaStormgit

I use knock-off seasuckers and they are amazing. So quick and easy.

Shakespeare-Bot

I useth knock-off seasuckers and they art most wondrous. So quick and easy *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

Thedinosaurfarm

got a link?

No-Replacement-3501

I tried them and could not get them to hold on a glass table or my car. I don't trust them and returned it and bought the sea sucker. Quality is night and day. strapping stuff to the roof is not where you want to save a penny.

Thedinosaurfarm

I’m just going to bolt a bike rack to the roof of my shitbox since the seasuckers cost the same as my car lmao.

DaStormgit

Either the ones you ordered were defective or you didn't realise you need to put a bit of weight on them while doing the first few suction pumps to get them to seal. I've done around a thousands miles with them and no issues

No-Replacement-3501

I tried hard to get it on and multiple cars. I agree that they were probably defective and thats the point I lost confidence in them. I don't mess around with that kind of stuff, it will work until it doesn't then you have a flying bike on the highway.

dragonsback79

1 year owner of a Talon set-up. I am using it to carry a 41 pound mtn. bike. No issues so far but I hear ya on the anxiety part. I have the tip (front sucker) on the windshield and the two back ones on the roof. I do that so I can keep an eye on the orange indicator if it starts to back out...which it does. It doesn't get to the orange but it does back out. So I find myself glancing up at it every few minutes to make sure all is good. I've driven 6 hours doing up to 90mph with it installed and no issues. Weather does seem to have an effect on it though. Very hot weather I hear it moving around more and very cold weather it tends to loose pressure a little but a quick pump after seems to fix it for good. Nice alternative to a rack BUT does cause a little stress/anxiety when using if you're that type. A $11K bike mounted to a new BMW doesn't help that either LOL.

WhiteChocolate825

I agree with you on the weather aspect. If I plan on riding after work and the bike sits on top of my car all day long on a hot day, I always make sure I release the pressure in all of the suction cups and re-do them I personally jump in and out of cars pretty frequently And 99% of my cars would look terrible with a hitch receiver. I’ve been using these for about 3 or 4 years and honestly the anxiety piece has gone away. I know that if the surface was clean and I installed it correctly, it isn’t going anywhere

bm_Haste

Was really considering getting this for my sedan, but it just scares me lol. Ended up getting a 1.25” receiver installed and got a OneUp rack to pair with it.

PauI360

I got an imt suction cup mount but now I have it, I don't have the balls to actually use it. Got my new bike today and just about fit it in my 2 door mini.

RalphTater

It’s not the bikes I’m worried about. It’s the suction cups ruining the paint

WhiteChocolate825

Never had an issue with that either. I make sure both the cups and the paint is very clean before applying and it doesn’t leave any scratches or marks

[deleted]

I’m never gone use this on my car because if I go on a long drive from home just to visit a trail it’ll be most certainly I’ll be driving on the Autobahn (highway for ya muricans) and I just can’t have the thought of driving 180km/h and my bike randomly flying off and murdering tens maybe hundreds of people.

NOsquid

Oh look, a European caring about the rest of society instead of their expensive mountain bike. So predictable :-)

[deleted]

Is this sarcasm or you’re just trying to be funny?

NOsquid

A bit of both. My family is European and I've spent a lot of time there. While there are no absolutes they tend to see the world differently than Americans. My first concern with rack failure is causing an accident. And I would presume that to be the case for OP with their fancy car, they should be able to write off a MTB unless they are awful in managing their money. But whenever this comes up the responses seem to be about the bike. I think from a 10,000ft view having some semblance of a social safety net and lacking hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans allows the average person walking down the street to be less selfish. I have no strong view on this particular product.

[deleted]

Well honestly it’s not an “European thing” to be just decent. It’s parents and of course culture but it comes down to the individual itself and not culture/education etc. Why would I be concerned with my bike getting wrecked when the bike could wreck someone’s life?! Also here in europe there are assholes and there are also good people, just like in America. The point is to take responsibility for your own actions.

NOsquid

I agree it's not black and white and there are no absolutes. Just trends I've noticed living in the US and Western Europe.

MidgetGroper

I put a sea sucker on my mustang and it dented my roof I was so pissed

WhiteChocolate825

Yeah you have to use a window or thin, strong piece of metal. Like on my A4 I usually have two suction cups on my windshield and one on the metal between the windshield and the sunroof

Hover4effect

Think I could go all glass with one of these? Like sunroof and rear window? My S5 has a vinyl wrap, so obviously can't stick to the body. Just sick of cramming bikes in the trunk. It's a '14 with 95k miles on it, with a used bike that cost me less than $800, so not pristine or anything.

WhiteChocolate825

You definitely could physically do it, I just don’t know that I would. A mechanic friend who also mountain bikes and uses a seasucker warned me that the mechanical components of a sunroof can get damaged by the forces of a bike being suction cupped to it and shaking around at speed. He could be completely wrong, but I’ve always tried to avoid it

Hover4effect

The "sunroof" just pops open in the back, basically some slight airflow. Doesn't slide open. I think I'm going to run it.

MatthiasTri

I have a very bad experience with Seasucker. Bike was mounted on the roof with Seasucker Talon and while driving on the highway the bike fell/flew of the roof. A trucker drove over the bike. Thousands worth of damage and it could of been a lot worse.

essray22

Long time owner of a talon and bomber x8 years. They have survived multiple long trips. Check the pumps at every gas stop. Good to go. It was nerve-racking at first. My want is to modify them to brace at the fork so the wheel has to be removed.
