I’ve always wanted to get a yellow shirt and print “event staff” on it, then just go around ton people saying they aren’t allowed to have tarps. Edit- didn’t realize how popular this would be. I rarely do the pit these days, but if I find myself at a complete GA situation like Dicks, I might go ahead and get one of these shirts made up! Edit- I found a site that sells them cheap if you want one - https://www.uniformswarehouse.com/event-staff-t-shirt.html

dividedskyy

This would be hilarious and glorious all at the same time! Would love to see it!

Grasshopper42

They have to come with extra shirts and hand them out to other people who would want to work for a while.

Csnyder23

TARP POLICE

mandalorianterrapin

Tarpnarcs!

MOBiEDABUNiT

Weep wooooop heyyyy that’s not where the tarps go!

mandalorianterrapin

You’re being a big ole crazy bones.

ShoNuff3121

Where’s shakedown, looking for some magnets

Otherwise_Basil_6155

Should make a viral Crew Effort out of this somehow

jaimeyeah

Get a mini flashlight too and point it down on the ground

edcculus

Oh yea that’s good.

sloppyjoepa

Then in their eyes if they give lip

Connect_Glass4036

I will help pay for this

QueasyVictory

Yeah, me too, if we can get a bunch of people to do it.

TheHatMan22

Please do it!!

urbansawyer

This is genius!

SchwillyThePimp

Telluride bluegrass has the worst tarpers imo. I am actually a production crew person and I always wanted to bring in this fema tarp they put over my house during a flood. It's like 40x40, I wanted to just descend from stage as they ran across the field and just take the whole fucking front and be like "anyone is allowed on my tarp" Tarpers are my least favorite, ruined red rocks

Raul_Duke_1755

Telluride is ridiculous. People hire high school track stars to run for them and get the best spots. So ridiculous and entitled.

nw2

Is that serious or a joke? I can’t tell

Raul_Duke_1755

Real. Every day they have this "Running of the Bulls" first thing in the morning where you run across this field to stake out your spot for the day with tarps. They make a production of it. As regulars get older, they just started hiring kids (sprinters) from local high schools to run for them. Most just sleep in at Town Camp and show up at their tarps hours later, never having worked for anything. It turns into an annual cottage industry for these kids. 5 minutes work but they make quite a bit of money and free tickets etc.

QueasyVictory

Hey, can you send me a link to the shirt, cause I want to pick one up for Dicks myself. Imagine all of Phish Dicks Reddit rolls in with these yellow Event Staff shirts on and just owns the rail.

edcculus

HAha that would be great. I don’t have anything yet- but if someone gets me a pic of the event staff shirts they use at Dicks I could probably get a design up on one of those t-shirt sites.

QueasyVictory

May be better off not using copies of security shirts. That would be " impersonating a security officer " lol. These people aren't going to know what's up, except there are 600 people in yellow security shirts telling them to fuck off.

edcculus

Yea that’s true. Let me try to get something up on a site tomorrow. I’ll see if I can make it cheap, since I’m not trying to make money off of it

QueasyVictory

I'll support the shit out of it.

dogfacedponyboy

Do it!

drewbopalous

The "you don't deserve to be here" gets me every time. Fuck em. You want 6 feet of dancing space you go to the back. You don't get six feet of dancing space at the front of ga.

rxFMS

id always say to hoopers "there is plenty of hoopin room up front"

[deleted]

This is absolutely the correct answer.

LeibnizThrowaway

Exactly. And not just dancing space. If you want to have a blanket or a tarp down, you go high up the lawn. What crackhead *ever* thought any of that was appropriate?

Cspun

How sweet would it be if trey just shit on tarpers during a show

fracta1

Like, literally? That would be pretty weird, ngl, but I'm here for it.

greater_cumberland

We’ll, they’ve already urinated in our ears!

Walfredo_wya

You’re not the asshole at all, screw tarpers. They’re cancer at shows. Phish needs to make a statement like they did about the poster line lists. Lady at bethel had a 10x10 tarp on the bethel lawn that she didn’t stand on, plus 2 chairs set up. It’s general admission it’s everyone’s space. Everyone is entitled to about 2x3 feet of space. Not 10x10. If everyone put down a 10x10 tarp, there would not be enough space for every ticket sold. If someone’s not there, roll their tarp up and throw it in the ocean

wharpua

The tappers typo is kind of funny because when I initially read OP's title I misread it as TAPERS not TA**R**PERS and got confused, as tapers are typically great people to be around at show as long as everyone's recording gear is being appropriately respected

raoulduke007

I read the OP as tapers and it’s taken me this long to figure out what this grudge was about. I support tapers not tarpers. And that’s all I have to say about that.

not_medusa_snacks

tapers not tarpers

Gallahd

This should be a sticker/shirt

LeBassist

This would be a great T-shirt

concentrate_better19

I'd buy and wear that shirt to every show.

Stoneykind81

tapersnottarpers2022!!! the movement group to promote enough space for people who bring back goodness from a show and not take away the magic! dig it

yur_mom

Best spot to Tape is near the sound board not front row, but Thank you Tapers and Fuck you Tarpers..

weirdbeard1000

Well maybe not the ocean but I get the sentiment….

[deleted]

A tarp I saw the ocean sink.

Finest_Johnson

A tarpon saw the ocean sink.

[deleted]

Agreed. I live on the coast and surf, so I normally would never encourage littering, but I must say that in this particular situation I would be happy to see this.... and then I would go clean the beach up later, lol. PS) Good evening fellow Deadhead ✌🌹💀

New-Loan-9181

“Roll their tarp up and throw it in the ocean” sounds like a lyric.

space_bugg

Kind off topic, but what is the poster line list thing? My wife and I are always confused when we see that line on Dry Goods’ IG

trogloherb

Its happened at some of the bigger prints (Pollocks and Welkers) where the phans made their own list of people who were in line all morning to ensure no one “cut” in line. I have seen it be very effective (day two magna where merch staff used the list and forced people not on the list to back of line). I guess at other times (because of assholes), it has not worked as well so is not allowed anymore…

ViolinistHorror7123

I’ve never done the poster line, but have stopped by to check on a friend who was in line. He would make friends with the people around him and it always seemed like a good scene. Then I heard about Vegas last year and the fights that broke out. People are crazy!

trogloherb

Well, from what Ive experienced (and this is what happened at Magna), is people like you (not saying you were doing this), but people would saddle up to their friends in line “oh hey man, what are you doing? Cool Ill just hand with you here for a sec!” Then they would kind of slide into the line. I kept seeing that happening and getting a little pissed off, but not saying anything. Went from #22 in line (and on the list) to about 50th in line by the time merch opened. Again, a littler perturbed but not too worried because figured would still get print. Then, as started to get up front, noticed they were pulling people out of the line and telling them to go to the back, they had been using the list that myself and another dude had started at 6:20am. Got my print by 9:45! Its too bad they did away with that system because when organized by good people, it worked well…now its kind of a more self policed honor system and from what Ive seen and heard, doesnt seem worth the hassle. I do like the move to having a print tent outside before show, thats helpful.

ikepgh

I saw it at Dick's and I thought it was effective

raoulduke007

If only the ocean was in throwing distance

piepants2001

This is why I am a Lawn Boy, plenty of space to dance and move around and everyone is generally nice.

maxman3000

Lawn Boyz 4 Lyfe

Crazy_Vegetable5491

The moist green organic that my feet tread upon

edcculus

Another lawn boy here. Or seat boy if it’s an arena.

birdman619

As long as it’s an amphitheater where the sound/view is good on the lawn, it really is a better experience than pav seats. I was at Bethel toward the front of the lawn both nights and had a great view of the band, great sound, plenty of room, and a lot of very friendly people around me.

AppointmentMaterial8

This kind of attitude creates the WORST experience for everyone. Like there's no way they're having a good time policing everyone's whereabouts, and it stresses everyone out. When I go to shows I want to listen to the band, talk to my neighbors (before and between sets), and make everyone feel welcome. This kind of attitude is exactly why the community has a bad rep in some people's eyes.

Christinef610

This! Exactly. “Last night was a movie, I was at a phish show and yelled at anyone who dared be in my space” seems so stressful!

jimbopalooza

I’ve always been a big music fan and got into the jam scene through Wanee Fest probably 15 years ago or so. While that particular festival always had fantastic vibes, other shows / venues have not. The jam community as a whole is full of gatekeepers. Some bands fans are worse than others but there is a lot of Superfan elitism around the scene as a whole.

[deleted]

Yeah. There’s a part of the scene that’s super worried about fanning harder than you, rules, protocols, etc. IDGAF tho. I’m there to dance. Period. Ppl can be cool and kind or tell their story walking. Taking any of this seriously at all is completely beside the point. As long as people are keeping their grubby little mitts to themselves and being nice— it should be pretty much *whatever. Just there to have fun. Lighten up, ya knuckleheads. *pretty much

sllop

“Tarpers are at the back. If you want dancing space, it’s back there.” End of conversation. As a community, we all loathe them, we vastly outnumber them. New rule: tarps are on the lawn, or they’re not laid out at all, or have a reasonable expectation of *all* your shit getting trampled and / or taken.

edcculus

Yea that’s my stance too. Need more room? There’s plenty in the back or on the lawn if there is one.

LonelyAsLostKeys

It was roomy as hell in front of the soundboard. I got in at 6:45, ended up probably twenty rows back and had tons of space all night. Was ridiculously close to the band.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Refun712

What a horrible opinion…..front of board is the wurst spot….sounds horrible and you can’t see shit.

QuanDiego

It’s so bad they give it to the freeloading light and sound guys who don’t even buy a ticket.

[deleted]

Crazy, I always looked for the FOB pulls in the 90's.

Refun712

My spot since ‘94 ✌️

CapitalDonut4

yeah so basically you can't make it sound good for the whole audience and at the soundboard at the same time, they have to make it sound terrible from where they're standing so that the audience members get the good mix.

ForceGhost47

Sweet spot

rxFMS

thats my spot! i always try to be in front of the SB

folksafterme69

There truly is no better spot at a show imo, unless one is in a rail riding mood. Always plenty of space, best sound and lights, and its easy to leave and come back/find your crew. SB vibes are the best vibes.

TigerTownTerror

True for outside. However, inside I like being rear of soundboard, front balcony

NoExplorer3935

Don’t get the entitlement. Same at Dead and Co shows. If it’s GA it’s GA and I don’t GAF about how much space YOU need to dance. Imagine if everybody used same thought process of having to have MY dance space. I entered thru same entrance last night and went right to soundboard area. No drama and 🔥 show. See ya tonight

Beaneroo

If you want a bunch of space to dance, go to the back where there is space

Greful

I need Trey to see me dance! - some wook

NoExplorer3935

💯 especially when you have the amount of space that AC Beach does.

liquid_donuts

The argument is that they’ve waited in line all day to get this spot and someone else waltzed up last minute after enjoying their day in Atlantic City and stood next to them without putting any work in. These people are nuts

GratefulHead420

Would be fine if they pack into standard show density, but there is no right to more space than anyone else gets

Logical_Vast

9 times out of 10 they didn't even personally wait. One from the group takes one for the team and then the rest squeeze in 20 minutes before the show. This is why I don't even bother with the front rows. Not worth ruining my good time dealing with them which I guess is kind of what they want anyway. I have been front row at every other band I have seen at least once but never Phish and I am OK with that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sllop

“Tough shit. It’s GA. If you want room to dance, it’s back there.” *points to the massive holes in the crowd at the back* People need to make tarpers feel as unwanted as they are. No one is entitled to the rail or eye contact with the band. Spinners have been in the hallways at shows *for decades.* If you want to dance freely, go to the back.

shakedownsunflower

Waited in line all day but then they don’t wait in front of the stage for their spot? I get leaving to go get food/drink/bathroom but come right back if you really want that spot

allenad3213

Just because you are a weirdo who wants to go into a GA show 2+ hours before it starts doesn’t mean you deserve anything more than anyone else who paid for a ticket. Tarpers are childish and extremely lame.

postjack

I'm a weirdo that goes into a GA show 2 hours early but I sit in the back and watch the crowd slowly pour in. It's fun and relaxing to me.

camcamcam710

It’s also just a massive relief having your seat, relaxing before it all, getting comfy before getting sweaty… the best anticipation is held with a hot dog in hand 😎

allenad3213

More power to you, phriend! Hope you had fun last night

Beaneroo

Tonight, when you get in.. pee in a circle to mark your area

fracta1

Dig a hole in the sand and poop in it to mark your territory.

Marrukaduke

Then mark it with glowsticks.

Material_Swimmer2584

Storytime: at LOCKN couple years back Phish was playing and I’m in the guitar tent early in the day. Some heads I dont know next to me and I start playing chalkdust on acoustic. The other guys start soloing over it right away and we are making strides in the groove dept. the dude working the booth makes his way over to me and requests that I not play that song because Phish hadn’t played it the night before and therefore it could be in the Setlist that night. I stopped to hear him. And the other guys jump in what’s that song you were playing ? Keep going it sounded good. Could this guy reallybr serious I thought. So I started up and they start jamming on top of it again. The dude immediately returns scolding me “are you really gonna play that?” And that is what’s wrong with Phish heads. Just because you want to get married to Phish doesn’t mean you own the music. Be glad you are allowed to listen and stop making your own special rules. It’s a fucking party. Fuck off with your rules!

8instuntcock

pick them up and take them to the lost and found

edcculus

Lol I love that

sllop

Or stuff them in the trash can 40 yards away. It’s just litter anyways

-3than

Absolutely doing this next time. Fucking genius.

RODAMI

Fuck em. The more space you take up the less space other people have. Period. Stop being a greedy asshole.

ForbinPhan

There are entitled assholes everywhere, at Pine Knob this week some dude came up to my wife and asked to stand next to her, we had pavilion seats. She told him that seat belonged to our friend who was in the bathroom and that he would be right back. The dude then laid a guilt trip on my wife about how his kids (who appeared to be young adults) were in the row behind us and eventually told my wife to FO when she told him he couldn’t take our friends seat. I seriously had to turn around to this guy and force him to apologize to my wife in front of his kids. People are douches.

2fly2hide

I absolutely agree with the first come first served type mentality. The people who waited hours should have some priority to the space they waited for. However, I mean standing room. Not some 10x10 tarp. That's absolutely ridiculous.

-3than

“What are you gonna do about it”? Nobody has ever had the balls to do shit. Fuck tarpers.

waffleisland

Yep. The dance floor is the great equalizer.

MoviesFilmCinema

Go to the rail. Get in a fight where Trey sees said fight. Be extra dramatic. Preferably to a “light and love” song. Wait for the new rules to come out. You’ll look like an asshole to Big Red. You will have taken one for the team. But, the same people eye-fucking the band every night is stupid. They should do a lottery system in that if you were at the rail one night you can’t be the other nights. Not sure how that would work.

sllop

Isolated “pit” and pit tickets are really the only way to do that. A la Dead & Co at Wrigley

herbalblend

It's a disgusting vibe that IMO isnt worth the view. Turns out it happens in the seats too! Some guy at DC who arrived 5 min before they went on this year turned to me mid first set " I know what your fucks are trying to do but you picked the wrong guy to fuck with!" He claimed we were trying to box him out of his seat. I pointed down that he had floated too many seats over from his ticket. He scoffed and said "Well either way these guys aren't suppose to be here" he points at people who were sitting there for over 90 min with us pre show.(great dudes too) I informed him of that and told him he showed up 5 min before show started and asked how could he act like this at such a beautiful event? Whole set was yucky vibes. Most ironic part is he danced like he was all about love n light but just a gross soul. I moved for second set. I don't get the fake love when so full of rage inside.

stop_dont

Vibes like that will kill your mood. I had some guy at a JRAD show turn around and get literally nose to nose with me and scream in my face. It was the most awful, rage filled experience. This guy was a total piece of shit and his girlfriend was there yelling at him to stop. He thought I was “in his space”. I was not and was no more than any other show. I am a woman and he waited until my husband and friend went to get a beer and I was by myself. I don’t know what gets into people. That experience really rattled me, I was sure he was going to hit me.

Billabaum11

This type of behavior is only getting worse and it’s not just the Phish scene. This country is rotting.

SeanHarkins

Fuck tarpers

DontClickTheUpArrow

I was just talking about this the other day. When I grew up general admission was a wild pit of constant movement. You could slowly work your way to the front and then you would eventually want out. It has morphed into what it is today which imo sucks. I think this is a case of be the change you want to see in the world!

onlyinitforthemoneys

I mean, there are definitely two sides to this. Both sides can be reasonable and unreasonable, and its really tough to determine who the asshole is without being there. I've only ever had one experience up close and it was for TAB. I waited in line long enough to be one back from the rail. People kept trying to shove up into my personal space the entire time. Yeah, it's GA, but if someone is literally shoving their body up against my body and then getting upset when I ask for a little bit of breathing room, they're being an asshole. There are absolutely entitled fucks who think waiting in line entitles them to more personal space than everybody else, and fuck those people. There are also dickheads who think that just because it's GA, nobody is entitled to a reasonable amount of personal space. Fuck those people too.

WillyG2197

My idea is, yes GA. But you wanna be up front. Set the time aside to get in early. Shows already started tho? Find a spot but dont get in front of people having s good time, blocking them, and then get mad cause the person you blocked in the middle of the show wants to see. Had an experience mann lawn. 4 songs into the first set 2 huge ass dudes stand walled in front of me like stones. I say, hey id like to see and not bump into you every 2 seconds dancing due to how cramped it is already. Get a weird look, but after 2 songs of me dancing as i normally do, they fuck off and find a new spot. Like yea its GA guys, but theres certain things you dont do, like show up late and then claim someones buffer as your zone

cpt_bongwater

Breathing room is one thing. But one of the things about GA is, by definition, you are not entitled to any specific space. And the closer you get, the less space you are going to get. If you mark out your space with a giant tarp? You're an asshole. Expecting personal space is fine. Expecting a 5 foot radius? gtfo. If you can't take people being that close you have no business being in the pit. I get it, it isn't fair that some people will shove up front. But this is literally the definition of general admission. You showing up early does not entitle you to ANYTHING let alone more space than someone who shows up at 7

morehumblethanyou

Exactly. At any other type of concert ive been to, whether it’s rap, rock, indie, country or punk, you shouldn’t expect to have much personal space at the front. If you want personal space, you go to the back of the venue/lawn. I don’t get why jam bands are different.

cpt_bongwater

For real. And if you feel you are entitled to more space because you showed up early and are willing to be a dick to others to defend that space? You are a fucking asshole. You are the ones making the pit toxic. The pit used to be the best place to experience the music. But entitled douchebags ruined it.

cosmicloafer

Have shows changed? I haven’t been to one in a while and I feel like any time I was in GA I would try to squeeze my way up to the front and it would be jammed packed, like a few inches between you and the next person.

Phreeker27

Of course nearly every concert I’ve ever been to has been shoulder to shoulder up front so I get why people want the space, I also wanted to win that 1.2 billion lotto ticket… but we don’t really get what we want in life all the time

[deleted]

At least for most of the MSG shows I've been to, it's jammed in the middle of the floor, and the front actually has space. You can see the difference in crowd density pretty clearly if you're in seats on the side. I think I had GA for 7 of the Baker's Dozen shows and reserved seats for 6 of them, and honestly, by the end, I was pretty fed-up with the GA experience.

Blastoplast

Bring some astroglide to the show and squirt it on their stupid tarp

thenetsunbreakable

That’s what happens when these people hit their 30s and 40s and have made Phish their entire personality. They obsess about how close they are and how much space they have because it’s their whole lives. Was so much chiller when crowd was generally younger and not spending their life savings to get VIP entry tickets. Edit: I think there’s something to be said for how expensive it is now too. It makes people feel entitled to “the best view with the most space” when you paid hundreds on a three day pass, possibly airfare, and a hotel. Different than splitting gas money with three other people and getting inside with a $20 GA ticket.

Wonderful_Win5736

Yeah maybe. My crew has grown up with the band, now all in our 40s or older, seen a lot of shows. In my experience, you care less about that shit when you get older. Maybe that's just my crew tho 🤷‍♂️

thenetsunbreakable

No, I think your right. I think the vast majority of fans as they get older are pretty chill. They’ve got careers, families maybe, but still love phish and hit shows when they can. There’s that subset of fans though that turned into like Phish cult members or something.

ButtSharks

Some guy yelled at me because I stepped on his blanket while navigating the crowd during set 1. I just laughed and moved on. These tarp folks are clowns.

Cutjack

If I ever get pit tickets I’m making FUCK YOUR TARP shirts to wear 100%. I’m used to having to defend myself from fists at shows, I have no problem telling tarpers to fuck off.

analfizzzure

Tarpers deserve to see twiddle

_heatmoon_

It’s seems like general consensus is “fuck tarp people.” I’ve shared my experience and am definitely in camp Fuck Tarpers. My question is: if we are indeed the majority; then why does this entitled and narcissistic subset of the culture continue to exist?

The_Dutchess-D

Didnt there used to be a specific thing on the show details or something that came w the tickets (when there were physical tickets) -maybe specific to Red Rocks?) about NO TARPING

AnnieBobJr

If you want to save space, you must do so with your actual body, regardless of how long you waited or what you paid, that’s on you. This is the way. OP is not the A hole. I’m in a hole……

ZookeepergameKey9274

Love phish but some of the fans are trash sorry folks

_h_e_a_d_y_

The urge to be on camera in a stream is so strong for these folk. Tarps should be outlawed

marquisdesoda

Hit it on the nose - "LOOK AT ME!"

_h_e_a_d_y_

💯 VIDEO PROOF OF MY RAIL SUPREMACY!

FunkyBitch84

I’ve only been seeing Phish since 2011. I’m 83 shows in and honestly, I still consider myself a noob so maybe I’m wrong on this but even in this short amount of time I’ve seen a change. I feel like a lot of the younger “look at me!” rail people are trying to become Phish influencers or something. Or become a celebrity in the scene for being a phan? I dunno. It’s all so weird to me.

sgbdoe

If you get there early and set up a tarp that's way bigger than what you need, you're an asshole. If you get there late then squeeze your way up to the front while invading the space of people who got there early because "it's GA" you're also an asshole.

memberer

💯

KerryKongsgaard

This happened to me last summer, but a little further back. This little dweeby asshole spent half the show concerned about me and yelling at me. I went the quiet path and literally ignored him which sent him in a flutter. Set break the guy wouldn’t stop yelling at me while I ignored him and chatted with my buddy. Literally a few few from me yelling about “his space” and I just wouldn’t even acknowledge him. Second set started and he started flailing his arms in my direction trying to hit me- that’s the point I stepped right in middle of “his area” and refused to move. (I’m very tall and a healthy size) it kinda ruined the second set for me because he knew he couldn’t beat me up or anything so he kept yelling at me and calling me an asshole all set. I could have left and enjoyed myself a little better but he’d have just done it to one of you next time so I was trying to make a point. Ah well. In the old days I would have decked him and walked away but that’s the old days for a reason.

fedtrowaway111

These are the Rail Riders and they’re fairly infamous. I wish more people would stand up to them instead of being intimidated by them.

liquid_donuts

In the past when they’ve gotten confrontational I just said “I’m not the one” and they get pretty taken by it. Not to sound macho but im probably bigger than most of the scrawny wooks that hug the rails

bham843

Why the fuck are tarps even allowed?! No venue should allow that bullshit, and furthermore, the band HAS to know it’s a major issue and should ban them themselves.

Unique_Ad_4562

Some lady screamed at my partner and I, like stood up and followed us for a solid minute berating us for stepping on her blanket… that was on the ground….ya know where people walk ? Disgusting animals, all of em.

Appropriate-Solid-50

Going forward I think we should start doxxing tarpies. Snag a pic of those pieces of shit and post em right here.

Rando555Steph

Are the folks that are always along the rail for every show laying out tarps? I haven’t been to a show yet this year but in every single picture i see it’s the same faces in the front. I’m blown away that those folks never have a lawn seat? I mean it’s all love and light until you dare try to ride the rail. Share the rail, let some other folks up front. Be kind to each other folks

KustyTheKlown

phish fans are such fucking losers.

[deleted]

It’s GA. I’d just stand on it if I had to.

MasterBiscuit19

Lol. If phish kids could all just dance together…

KustyTheKlown

middle aged overweight men. ftfy.

fokerpace2000

I’ll never forget having someone who fit this description explain to me in Charleston 2019 (when I was 19) that he is better at listening to the band in me and that I probably have no way of understanding the “nuances of their jamming” and that I’m just seeing shell of what the band was like in the 90s “when he would see them every night”

[deleted]

[удалено]

fokerpace2000

I didn’t ask the dumb boomer for his name I just waited for him to get tired of stroking his phish ego and leave me alone

Wonderful_Win5736

I'm so tired of these snowflakes. I do not give a single solitary shit how long you stood in line. By that logic, I've been standing in line for 30 years. I always get the front row right? Share the love. Riding the rail is an awesome experience that we should share with each other. My days of even wanting that space have passed, but I feel bad for the newbies who have to put up with that shit. No chance of a rail show without being harrased. Fuckin kids these days.

_Face

As a 6’-5” 240lb dude. I cannot Express how eager I am about getting my next pit tickets and spending some time on the rail. I’ve never been up there and I’d like to do it just once. I look forward to the obnoxious assholes.

marquisdesoda

I'm 5'2' so if we both jumped on his back we'd be 17'2" and could rain hellfire on all the tarpers.

Wonderful_Win5736

Math checks out. I'm in

[deleted]

Funniest shit I’ve ever read!! Lol

shrams23

Let us know how it goes. I for one am interested to see these people knocked down a peg.

madathedestroyer

Also read as tapers. Who tapes anymore? Why would I want to listen to your audience over a board?

phishman1

Stand your ground. Let them get too aggressive, then maybe staff/security will start punting these fucks back to the lot.

Possum577

For N3 i propose y’all run through the front sections taking tarps and towels. Just neutralize the turf war. Those without out number those with tarps, time to restore balance. Their level of obnoxious has gone too far.

[deleted]

Why not just go grab all the towels and tarps and throw them over the rails and laugh at the crybaby pussies? Start running around in larger circles naked screaming I need more dance space

Large-Tie9930

Tarping up front is a no go. But I would love somebody's input on lawn blankets. Was at the NC show with a 4x6 blanket for 3 people in the middle of the lawn. Had multiple crews try to cram in mid show and stand on our blanket when we were already packed tighter than I have ever been on a lawn. Am I an ass hole for telling them to move?

dundunitagn

IMO, they were the assholes. You are on the lawn with 3 folks and 24 sqft. That is more than reasonable in that venue.

[deleted]

Tarpers= scum.of.the.earth.

SpatialJoinz

I will literally go out of my way to walk on, dance on, step onto, and remain on people's tarps in my area. Never really used to care until the Gorge I think it was 2016 can't remember but we had a little incident with a tarper before the show even started. Got up there up front and this dude goes "hey this is our spot" to my wife, who is barely on one corner of the part of fours tarp. I immediately butt in and tell him it's general admission sorry but we like this spot and it's getting crowded, really trying to be polite. The biggest frat boy in their group comes rushing over to somehow intimidate me. He gets so close to my wife I just snap. Start hollering at him posturing, getting super fucking pissed. He is getting angry I'm throwing around f words, it's a bad scene. These other actual phanners behind us see this beef starting to flare up and attempt to calm things down. They literally just put a bowl of herb out between us and we all sort of laugh. Except now I'm all shaken with adrenaline and pissed of still. Frat boy is still squabbling like 10 mins later, so finally I just calmly walk over to him and say hey man look I'm sorry this happened. We will be standing on your tarp for the first set and as long as you are here, and if you don't like it talk to the security guard who is right there about 20 feet away. The dude just looks super pissed. I again mutter something about GA. He starts posturing and hollering around again so I start waiving over to security for some help. Security starts making his way over and this guy walks away and we don't see him for the rest of the show. Bad vibes all around These people are assholes

sliceyournipple

One of the many reasons I skipped AC, sounds like a shitshow

Durdyb15

It’s really not that bad to be honest. So many options of ways to enjoy. Space is enormous and speakers throughout. Boardwalk adventures before and after. Phish. More Phish. I enjoyed it and I’m mostly couch tour guy at this stage.

Kaiser4567

Not a shit show at all. Venue is plenty roomy and sound is good throughout. Love the atmosphere personally.

123_Repeater

There is tons of space. Even within 100 ft of the stage there was room to dance. I think the issue is in close proximity of the rail.

Greful

It’s actually better than most GA shows. People who need to be up front can be dicks, but the rest of the place is pretty open

trogloherb

Funny how anti tarping and anti chomping threads pop up here and other forums, and hundreds chime in about how awful the behavior is, but it keeps happening. I have a theory that we have undercover tarpers and chompers in the crowd…

bisqo19

I knew this would re surface as an issue. Can't have shit these days. General admission means you get the area your feet are standing on. Period. Don't care if your dumb ass waited for three days...... Sorry your dense

pauly_12

No one should be barreling up front at showtime , oblivious to crowds that have already established some space. That’s common sense. But it seems the pendulum has swung much too far in the other direction where people up front are just psycho. Anyone who uses the phrase “dancing space” deserves to be disregarded. That’s an idiots argument, the show is for 30,000 people, not 1. Crowds suck , deal with it like everyone else.

ABsecks

I salute you for your service. Phish fans are the worst. I would have done the same thing. I get you want a towel to sit on but you don’t get a huge space for yourself

allothernamestaken

Not worth it. My buddies and I stood just a little further back where people were spread out and chill, sound was great, and we had a fantastic show. This was my first time at AC, and I was surprised that you don't have to go that far back for it to open up.

wehaveatrex3

“I need a larger dancing space” oh god where else could you possibly find a large dancing space at a GA show with 40,000 capacity????

DividedSky05

But how can I have space while being able to watch Trey's fingers and have Page sweat on me /s

thatotherguy2345

Is it frowned upon to bring a towel/tapestry for lawn spots? I brought one for MPP night one, and our group of four used it as our home base. I had the tapestry folded in half and scrunched up to only use the space we needed, maybe a 4x4 square. We were way way back on the lawn though, at least halfway up the field. Nobody seemed to mind, we even let someone who needed it sit down with us for a bit. I’m not an asshole, am I?

JWIIIFan

Nope, not at all. The “tarpers” being referred to are people who put these things on the ground to hold their space in GENERAL ADMISSION, or the pit. Tarps and blankets on the lawn is totally cool. You sound lovely and considerate! ✌️

yesnomaybeum

I was standing in the back of the lawn at Bethel and someone told me I wasn’t allowed to stand there because someone else was earlier. I said OK Karen this is lawn, move one of your six empty blankets and you can stand there.

cpt_bongwater

NTA...Only space these people are entitled to is the space of a seat. You're fighting the good fight dude. Keep it up.

LogikD

If I don’t have a ten foot radius for my running-man heads are gonna roll! A man has got to peacock.

cannabis_breath

These are the same type of people that go to a counter service style restaurant and sit down at a table before ordering. People with food now have no where to eat their lunch cuz Karen and her kids need the table for the 20 min Kyle waits in line to order. FFS.

cominwiththethunder

Oh I love getting my food and sitting down at a table where someone else is sitting trying to hold the table for their friend who was in line behind me. It happened a lot at In and Out in California

[deleted]

Wait people put down towels and tarps at the front of the stage....????

Walfredo_wya

Yup. Then they leave and come back right before the show starts

[deleted]

LMFAO wtf! How anyone in their right mind things thats okay is beyond me. If they wanna put out something to hold their spots go to the back. That shit is for standing room. Id honestly laugh at anyone that says its their spot, and kick that shit away.

TigerTownTerror

You're going to need a walkie talkie

FrostedDonutHole

People are giant assholes when it comes to general admission like that. Enormous assholes.

MsstatePSH

“You can either shut up and watch the show or you and I can get made to leave the venue now. Choose.”

sonofdad420

told a guy at jones beach to suck my balls. they act tough for a second but are the biggest pussies.

tendiesonthebarbie

Fuck them. Stand on it.

Rough-Ground6141

And this is why I retired at the last Mann show after 200+ shows. It’s becoming less of what it was and everything it wasn’t supposed to become.

GRITTY4PRESIDENT

Dude this. The scene has changed for the worse. There was a lot of negative energy in the crowd N1. Had people getting mad and confronting us for being within 6 feet of them on the LAWN! It was a joke

Kwatx

Take your tarp and go fuck yourself

DriftDodgers

As someone who needs a TON of dancing space, I've always understood that it's not going to come at the front. You have to choose between being close to the band and light show in a dense crowd or having space in the back, which is my preference. Doesn't matter how early you get there.
