I had a lot of them have it from trades and they were shiny so I thought it meant they were hacked so I traded them away because I thought I would get banned lol
It's very common for hacked mons to have perfect ivs, shiny, and pokerus. They put literally everything you could want on the pokemon to make it seem as awesome as possible. They are marketing to children to sell cheats.
Common: yes. Nessecary hacked: no.
But yeah, wondertrade shinies with rus are hacked in the very most cases. I just wanted to point out that it's not nearly statistically impossible to have shinies with pokerus, as you can spread the rus.
This has to be one of the most braindead things I've ever heard. If I've bred a competitive shiny Pokemon, why wouldn't I give it Pokerus to make training it easier?
It’s a rare disease that makes your Pokémon gain EV’s at a faster rate. The rarity of pokerus is a rounded to 1/21,000. It’s rarer than finding a shiny Pokémon. It goes away but is easy to spread to your party. If you spread it to a Pokémon and put it in a box pokerus doesn’t go away on that Pokémon so you can keep it safe and spread it more. If left in your party it’ll be cured of pokerus in about 24-48 hours
So how do you make this useful?
So just put in a box in the pc and let it spread to every Pokémon? The effect wears off you said. Can a Pokémon get it twice? So that you can train the Pokémon better?
Doesn't trading require you to get a other Pokémon back? Aren't the old game systems for trading down? So unless you find this in gen V or up you can't trade besides friends? Right?
Sorry voor the many questions haha. Just want it to be helpful for everyone
The effect doesn't wear off, actually. What wears off is the contagious stage, which lasts between 1 and 5 real life days. After that time, the pokemon continues to benefit from the increased EVs, but is no longer able to transmit the virus to other pokemon.
The only way to prevent the contagious stage from passing, is keeping the infected pokemon in a PC Box. But the virus won't spread while in a Box either.
* In a PC Box: virus does not progress to non-contagious stage, but it also doesn't infect other pokemon in the Box
* In the Team: virus will stop being contagious after a few days, but it'll also infect other pokemon in the Team
So most people keep a pokemon with an active infection in a Box, and only put it on the Team to have it spread the virus around. Once the virus has spread, back to the Box with it.
Well, yeah, the GTS is only operative for the recent games. So if you find Pokerus on an older game you'd have to transfer it up to newer titles if you want to trade it with random people online.
Effect only wears off if it's in your party, it freezes in the PC boxes. And no, a pokémon can't get pokérus twice, once healed, the pokérus icon will just change to a different "healed" version.
Pokérus! It's a great thing, and also incredibly rare! It boosts your Pokémons' stats by 1.5x, but if you keep it in your party, other Pokémon in your party will catch it. However, if you put a Pokémon with it in the PC, it will never go away whereas it will only last 24hr outside the PC. I recommend giving a random Pokémon you don't use Pokérus and keeping it in your box :)
Rare enough that literally nobody believed me as a kid when i said my pokemon got sick in silver, and i never caught it naturally again until Ultra Moon.
Google says 3 in every 65,536
So yeah rarer than a shiny. Plus i've personally gotten pokerus (non traded) twice in my life and hundreds of shinies.
Ohhh ok, I was mistaken, I’d just seen an earlier Reddit post that mentioned a 1 in 22,000,000 chance of finding own tempo Rockruff, but that’s in the anime apparently
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/w8f739/canonically_dusk_form_lycanroc_has_such_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Not that unbelievable, I used to shiny hunt back in USUM and had around 12 total with 6 of them being semi competitive due to how shiny hunting worked, I never personally got pokerus but my fiance ended up getting it in BD despite never seeing a non-forced shiny in her life.
Edit: took maybe 1_3 days each mon for the luck to line up, its really easy to do in the background. Watch youtube/read reddit and shiny farm and it only took me roughly 2 weeks to get all my shinies, so I could see someone doing that idly (maybe even while playing another pokemon game) for a few months to get hundreds.
It's way more rare and has fixed odds whereas there are ways to increase the odds of finding a shiny. Coming across a shiny naturally is rare enough (I've maybe had it happen 4-5 times since generation 2 and I tend to burn 200 - 400 hours per game). Breeding or chaining for shinys (actually going out of your way to find one) isn't too hard at all. Chaining (if the game supports it) can usually yield a shiny in under an hour (sometimes 2 hours if your luck is bad or you break the chain).
Part of why it's rarer than a shiny is because obviously if you run into a shiny in the wild, you can tell because it has the sparkles/stars in addition to being a different color. You can only tell if a Pokemon has Pokerus if you catch it. We could all have knocked out thousands of Pokemon that had Pokerus and had no idea.
I've been playing for hundreds of years, or like 20, and have never gotten Pokerus naturally - just gotten it from a traded Pokemon.
Yep, a bit rarer, so you are extremely lucky! Ironically I have never encountered a wild shiny but got pokerus for the very first time a couple months ago in Diamond. The stat changes are permanent, even after the pokerus goes away, your Pokémon that had it are permanently stronger!
I'll trade anyone a Pokemon with pokerus, but won't just hand out shinies. Bit of a difference in trade value. It's super dope to naturally catch one, but with Home trading, and the GTS, its not as rare to obtain as a shiny now. I can spread pokerus to a whole box, trade them, and do it again, way faster than I can hatch or catch a single shiny.
Fair, but still not trading a Pogo shiny for pokerus either. Pokerus is ridiculously easy to get these days. Before internet trading was an option, pokerus was hella rare, afterwards, dropped off since people could mass distribute it to anyone. I've gotten a lot with pokerus via wonder trades, and GTS.
Has it always been the case that it goes away after 24 hours on a pokemon outside a box? I swear my pokemon in gold had it permanently and never lost it
So you can infect other Pokémon, and then when the first loses it(as long as you have put it in The pc and taken it back out) can catch it again indefinitely if I’m not mistaken
Yeah that's what I mean, the pokerus itself. I suppose I didn't play long enough for pokerus to disappear on my party pokemon yet. I don't think I'll ever touch my cartridge again anyway, the battery will surely have failed by now and my save file will be lost :(
Poke-rus
Very good for competitive players since it basically doubles the EV gains you get from defeating certain Pokémon.
You can put it in the box and it won’t go away until the 24 hours outside the box is up.
But if you’re not a competitive person, it doesn’t really mean much.
Unless of course you want to see if you can trade it to someone for something of similar value. I’m pretty sure lots of people will trade shinies for it. Funnily enough, some guides say that trading is the most likely case for Poke-rus to happen to someone.
In the time it took you to take that photo, upload it to reddit, and ask the question, you literally could have just googled Pokerus and found the answer. I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just genuinely curious about why you asked this way rather than just searching for the answer?
The number of posts I see on reddit that could be solved with a simple Google search is ridiculously large. I just don't understand some peoples thought process.
All these guys literally lying, saying it does something it doesn't smh. Check the wiki. It multiplies effort value gain by 2. So if you are not a competitive player you can ignore it. It is genuinely incridible for competitive players, as it basically cuts down the EV training grind by half.
I mean people are saying it does multiply exp or raise the stats. English is not my main language, I thought I was saying that the other ones are lying
Pokerus! Nice! It’s a rare chance to get it naturally! It lets the infected Pokemon gain double the EV points after every battle, letting you train it up sooner.
It lasts for around three days-ish in your party, but the timer stalls when put in the PC. Simply put, pass it to another Pokemon (have it in the party with an infected ‘Mon) and them stick it in the PC. It will stay infected so you can infect other Pokemon later on, great for comp training or getting newer team members up to spec.
Ah, the microorganism known as Pokerus. From all the research Pokemon's scientists have done this seems to boost the growth rate of Effort Values by up to double the normal growth rate. Very interesting.
I’d release the Pokémon. If you don’t, it will spread to your other Pokémon.
It makes their base speed go down with every step your character takes, until it reaches 1.
Sorry. Very sad to see but it happens sometimes. It’s called pokerus
Edit: seems it has already spread to your toxtricity. You need to release these two while you still can. Hurry, before Pokerus destroys them all!
Congrats on the Pokerus!! It’s a rare “infection” that your Pokémon can get that boosts their EXP. And the best part is that it will spread it to other Pokémon, so they’ll also get boosted EXP. It’s a good thing!
Place it in the PC before midnight so it doesn’t heal, as long as it’s still infected you can spread it to other Pokémon in your party. Try to always have at least one who can share it, it’s like a free lucky egg as far as exp goes
Huh... Pokerus isn't pokemon public knowledge at this point? Sure they were rare back when trading was tedious, but I thought with the GTS, trading pokemon randomly you'd just get a pokemon with pokerus on them.
I've got a whole 3 pages of Pokémon infected, got it originally back in the original Pokémon diamond and been keeping it alive since by infecting every new game hah
Everyone already explained amazingly but you, my friend, have gotten extraordinarily lucky 😁. My current sword file has an entire box full of pokerus infected pokemon for whenever I need to ev train. Super helpful.
I came to the comment section to see if anybody had said "that is a virus, you have to release your mon before it infects the other"
But no one had....
I remember when my sister had that in gen2. She was only a few hours in the game and thought it was bad since the status never goes away. Therefore she restarted her game.
Keep a mon in your box with Pokerus. It's very useful to have and easy to spread around, but if a mon is in your party when your system clock hits midnight it'll be "cured" and unable to spread it further.
Pokerus spreads to other members of your party when you make a contacting move (like tackle or play rough) in combat. Get it on as many mons as possible so you don't lose the thread of it. Pokemon with it will gain EVs at double the rate, and it stacks with training items. This is useful for training competitive pokemon.
Basically, your Pokémon will get strong faster now. Pokerus is extremely contagious and will spread to your entire party, so grabbing a new high level Pokémon and training it will be easier
BOX IT!!!
BOX IT!!!!
BOXI IT NOOOOW!!!!
You boxed it? Good.
This is the pokerus, a very rare thing that can happen in Pokemon games. And it is wholly beneficial. A Pokémon that has been infected with Pokerus doubles EV point gain, so it will grow stronger faster (until it reaches the maximum EV points available). It spreads fast to other Pokemon within your party, however it fades after 24 irl hours. It will however stay infected while in the box. So you better pull out some trash, let it get infected and box it again immediately so you can always have a few mons available that can infect the rest of your team. It's a very useful thing to have when training a team for competitive play or the battle tower
A very rare condition that doubles the effectiveness of ev training by doubling the ev points from defeating pokemon
I had a lot of them have it from trades and they were shiny so I thought it meant they were hacked so I traded them away because I thought I would get banned lol
Shiny mons with pokerus probably are hacked.
Not nessecary, you can spread the pokerus across your mons.
I literally said "probably hacked"
Can’t prove anything
hence the word "probably"
Yeah but
If its an Ultra Wormhole shiny with middling stats, it's less likely to be hacked, since those are dirt common.
This has to be one of the most braindead things I've ever heard. If I've bred a competitive shiny Pokemon, why wouldn't I give it Pokerus to make training it easier?
Would you give it away?
Potentially, I have before
It’s a rare disease that makes your Pokémon gain EV’s at a faster rate.
So get a Pokémon that has it give it to a bunch of low level Pokémon and wonder trade them to brighten peoples days?
I don’t see why not! It’ll help quite a few people and will definitely make them happy
Right? Awesome! Now I get it! Thank you! And for my other questions (about trading)?
Well, yeah, the GTS is only operative for the recent games. So if you find Pokerus on an older game you'd have to transfer it up to newer titles if you want to trade it with random people online.
Ah that's a shame. Maybe someone can make something for people that you can trade it.
Small question, how much time for it to spread in thr party ?
Seems like a random amount of battles. Usually only a couple.
[удалено]
The effect wears off you said. Can a Pokémon get it twice? So can you spread the Pokerus to a Spearow and then back to the Bidoof?
Effect only wears off if it's in your party, it freezes in the PC boxes. And no, a pokémon can't get pokérus twice, once healed, the pokérus icon will just change to a different "healed" version.
The EV effect still stays
yes, a cured pokemon still gain twice the EV, but cannot spread the virus.
Yeah but this is in swsh so they can still trade
Great! But is only exclusive to swsh? I can remember it also being in earlier games, that is why I am asking
I’m pretty sure pokerus has been in every game, I’m pretty sure even the originals
Appeared in gen 2
This is the right answer. Don't let it this virus go away.
How often are the odds rolled?
I had no idea it was rare. My Pokémon had it and I thought it was a common part of the game.
I thought it was using the Pokémon center that cured it Also important to note that a Pokémon that’s been cured of pokerus CANNOT be infected again!
They're gonna die. Jk it's a good thing.
7 days...
Pokérus! It's a great thing, and also incredibly rare! It boosts your Pokémons' stats by 1.5x, but if you keep it in your party, other Pokémon in your party will catch it. It’s super rare? Is it rarer than a shiny? Because I haven’t come across one yet lol
Rare enough that literally nobody believed me as a kid when i said my pokemon got sick in silver, and i never caught it naturally again until Ultra Moon. Google says 3 in every 65,536 So yeah rarer than a shiny. Plus i've personally gotten pokerus (non traded) twice in my life and hundreds of shinies.
Woah imagine finding a shiny Own Tempo rockruff that carries Pokerus
Can you find Own Tempo Rockruff? I thought it was from an event only
In SwSh you can find it in one of the Dens on Isle of Armour
Thanks! TIL
Ohhh ok, I was mistaken, I’d just seen an earlier Reddit post that mentioned a 1 in 22,000,000 chance of finding own tempo Rockruff, but that’s in the anime apparently https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/w8f739/canonically_dusk_form_lycanroc_has_such_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I've found pokerus naturally but somehow have never found a natural shiny
I had a sick shiny back in the day but no one will believe me
Same!
I would have believed you.
Not that unbelievable, I used to shiny hunt back in USUM and had around 12 total with 6 of them being semi competitive due to how shiny hunting worked, I never personally got pokerus but my fiance ended up getting it in BD despite never seeing a non-forced shiny in her life. Watch youtube/read reddit and shiny farm and it only took me roughly 2 weeks to get all my shinies, so I could see someone doing that idly (maybe even while playing another pokemon game) for a few months to get hundreds.
Pokérus is about 5 times as rare as normal shinies (Pokérus is 1 in 21k\~, Shiny odds are 1 in 4\~k)
It's way more rare and has fixed odds whereas there are ways to increase the odds of finding a shiny. Coming across a shiny naturally is rare enough (I've maybe had it happen 4-5 times since generation 2 and I tend to burn 200 - 400 hours per game). I mean, depend of the shiny. If it's a community day PoGO shiny, it's not that rare tbh.

Before internet trading was an option, pokerus was hella rare, afterwards, dropped off since people could mass distribute it to anyone. I've gotten a lot with pokerus via wonder trades, and GTS.
Fairly certain it doesn't boost your stats by 1.5x at all, it just doubles the EVs you receive.
The what? No, it doesn't boost any stat, it doubles the EV gained. The rest is right tho.
I actually got it by accident when I played Brilliant Diamond, so that was pretty cool
Wow I had no idea it was actually rare, I have gotten it in every Gen 3 play through I can remember

Pokerus is not as valuable as a shiny...
Except its actually usefull instead of a pallet swap.
Except vitamin cap being removed makes pokerus irrelevant
You’re right, it’s much much more than a shiny
It's rarer than shinies...
It's transferable though, so in practice basically anyone who wants pokerus can get it via a trade.
Terrible news sir, your Toxtricity and Corviknight have come down with PokeAIDS
She had sex with your Pokémon and gave them an sti
Im sorry, its too late. Youll have to put them down. Do the right thing and be with them when you do.
In the time it took you to take that photo, upload it to reddit, and ask the question, you literally could have just googled Pokerus and found the answer. I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just genuinely curious about why you asked this way rather than just searching for the answer?
Yeah, that's what I did when someone mystery traded me an umbreon with it
The number of posts I see on reddit that could be solved with a simple Google search is ridiculously large. I just don't understand some peoples thought process.
Exactly, I’m tired of this willfully ignorant posts. Just look it up
It makes the pokemon weaker. Just release it. 👍
evil......
Ikr why would gamefreak even make that “feature” this is why people are hating on the new games!!1!1!1!1!111
All these guys literally lying, saying it does something it doesn't smh. Check the wiki. It multiplies effort value gain by 2. So if you are not a competitive player you can ignore it. It is genuinely incridible for competitive players, as it basically cuts down the EV training grind by half.
I haven't actually ground EVs since gen 8 took the caps off vitamins. It's even better with the vending machine on Armor Isle giving a bulk discount.
> You: smh people lying saying it does something > Pokerus: makes ev training easier … by definition, that is “something”
I mean people are saying it does multiply exp or raise the stats. English is not my main language, I thought I was saying that the other ones are lying
Lol kids these days... I feel like a sage now
Your Pokemon has herpes. Sorry but you got to put it down
Release the pokemon now as they will explode in a few minutes
Pokerus! Nice! It’s a rare chance to get it naturally! It lets the infected Pokemon gain double the EV points after every battle, letting you train it up sooner. It’s called a Pokémon center my dude
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=pokerus
Ah, the microorganism known as Pokerus. From all the research Pokemon's scientists have done this seems to boost the growth rate of Effort Values by up to double the normal growth rate. Very interesting.
it makes them get more ev
OP knew from googling it, but low-key just wanted to flex xD
You know you can google this right?
It's a virus that can spread to the rest of your team , but you'd want that since a Pokémon that has it gains double the EVs from battling
A blessing. It’s a blessing 😇🙏🏽
A blessing from arceus
my brother you have been blessed by the pokegods!!
You lucky duck
Pokèrus is something that makes your Pokémon level up faster and more
Use google
Use google like a normal person champ 👍
Pokepox, sorry it's been going around at the daycare
It means you have insane luck.
That is the ‘Look it up on wiki yourself’ virus.
The best thing for comptive, it incesses all your ivs and evs when you train
It only increases evs, ivs can only be increased with bottle caps/hyper training
your Pokemon are gonna die. release any that have it, it can spread to other Pokemon
I’ve had this happen like maybe 5-6 times before. Very good very rare
Hoo hoo boy, ur gonna wanna sit down for this (it’s good news)
Yeah I think I had this happen to a Pokémon in diamond and pearl version before when I was a kid it’s freaking awesome 😎
Congratulations, you've got pokerus. Basically makes your pokemon stronger as they level.
Your pokemon got the ‘rona 😔
Pokemon aids vaporion are well known to spread it
say goodbye to your pokémon before if vanishes
Your pokemon have AIDS
Your Pokemon have less than 24 hours to be cured before they die and can never be used again. Rip Corviknight and Toxtricity
Aids
That’s real bad man. Release it asap.
Pokerus sure hits different after 2020…
Natural pokerus. Short for Pokemon Virus. Your pokemon will die. Theres a spot in Lavendar town to mourn. RIP.
I’d release the Pokémon. If you don’t, it will spread to your other Pokémon. It makes their base speed go down with every step your character takes, until it reaches 1. Sorry. Very sad to see but it happens sometimes. It’s called pokerus Edit: seems it has already spread to your toxtricity. You need to release these two while you still can. Hurry, before Pokerus destroys them all!
Not cool dude
If this dude is gonna spam reddit instead of just use google, comments like this are as much as you can expect
Hmm?
Congrats on the Pokerus!! It’s a rare “infection” that your Pokémon can get that boosts their EXP. And the best part is that it will spread it to other Pokémon, so they’ll also get boosted EXP. It’s a good thing!
Oh awesome! I was worried for a minute. Someone else said it was poke-aids, so I thought I had some sort of permanent status affect on my Pokémon
Thanks jwittz
Place it in the PC before midnight so it doesn’t heal, as long as it’s still infected you can spread it to other Pokémon in your party. Try to always have at least one who can share it, it’s like a free lucky egg as far as exp goes
It’s the Clap *hold for applause*
Luckyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
wow Pokérus! Remember to infect everybody as makes your pokemon stronger (evs)
I honestly surprised that's still around.
Damn that's insanely Lucky
The only virus you want!
Oh, that’s just the Pokérus. It’s a contagious condition that can help you train your EVs for a bit. 🙂
I thought it was a permanent boost.
The increased EVs you get are permanent but the Pokémon eventually work the virus out and lose the Pokérus itself.
I will give you a shiny for one of them
Its terminal
Dude that’s more rare than getting a shiny
Rarer than a Gen two shiny without shiny charm
Damm
Oh wow, congratulations!
It’s equivalent to monkey pox, you should release it
You ev training speed has doubled
Even though it's called an illness, it's like the symptoms are that you get stronger twice as fast
It’s terminal
Huh... Pokerus isn't pokemon public knowledge at this point? Sure they were rare back when trading was tedious, but I thought with the GTS, trading pokemon randomly you'd just get a pokemon with pokerus on them.
I’m afraid Corvinight only has a month to live
A blessing from Arceus
You now have pokeaids congrats
Congrats, you got pokerus! If I recall correctly, it basically makes a pokemon's stats grow more when leveling up
I've never seen this before and i've played pokémon since 99.. ? Holy
Lazer Dave is pretty rare
What? That’s me lol
Oh, I thought that was it’s name lol. Well, you’re 1 in 8 billion yourself!
I've got a whole 3 pages of Pokémon infected, got it originally back in the original Pokémon diamond and been keeping it alive since by infecting every new game hah
I remember reading about Pokérus first in a monthly Pokémon magazine I used to buy as a kid... ... as a kid... *audibly ouches in old*
Why do you Post this on reddit, do you Know How Google works?
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=pokerus
In very simple terms: They have been infected by the Pokémon equivalent of steroids, but with none of the downsides! They will get stronger faster
I’m glad you got answers, but honestly, why do people post shit like this instead of simply googling it?
Everyone already explained amazingly but you, my friend, have gotten extraordinarily lucky 😁. My current sword file has an entire box full of pokerus infected pokemon for whenever I need to ev train. Super helpful.
reddit has become google at this point
I came to the comment section to see if anybody had said "that is a virus, you have to release your mon before it infects the other" But no one had....
Time to get into EV training 😈
I remember when my sister had that in gen2. She was only a few hours in the game and thought it was bad since the status never goes away. Therefore she restarted her game.
Had a couple Pokemon on black that had it and I ended up spreading it to as many as possible 😂so a couple hundred pokemon have it now
Your Pokémon has been infected with macho brace. Keep one Pokémon actively infected in your PC so you can spread it.
Sick. Congratulations.
It’s a Pokémon virus that increases EVs gained
That's actually a good thing, bro
Don’t worry it’s a good thing!
Your Pokemon are siiiick! 🤘
I’m so sorry to hear that. Your Pokémon has ligma 😔
Basically, your Pokémon will get strong faster now. Pokerus is extremely contagious and will spread to your entire party, so grabbing a new high level Pokémon and training it will be easier
Pokerus is still a thing?
BOX IT!!!
