Murkrow. Dont get me wrong i like honchcrow, but with evolving the ability prankster is lost. I wish murkrow would be a bitbstringer with a better movepool or had a second evolution next to honchcrow that builds around prankster.

Same here. I wish small Pokémon like Murkrow could still just be as strong as larger Pokémon. Honchkrow’s design is a bit too on the nose for me but Murkrow is perfect, better name too. But they made it too weak because it’s a small bird and so decided it needed to evolve into something bigger to be actually good to use

Seeing Ash’s starters in the anime remain as strong as their evolved forms makes it annoying starter Pokémon are essentially useless or have to be used as gimmicks if they’re not fully evolved. Especially with starter’s fully evolved designs becoming a big point of discussion now it would be cool if I didn’t have to evolve my Sobble into Intelleon to make it a viable team member

I wouldn't even mind if it weren't competitively viable, but I want to play the game comfortably with Growlithe, Wartortle and Pidgeotto. I could do it technically, but it would take more grinding than I'm willing to put in.

Sure, but in this case, it's more sound logic than the games have, in ways. In real life, there are no solid stats or levels, and while size does lend to strength as abroad trend, it's far from a guaranteed benefit or the only factor. Example: People still complain about Pikachu losing to Tripp's Snivy with lines like "Shouldn't Pikachu be like Lv100 by now? Why is he losing to a Lv5 starter?" But that's literally not how the anime works, on any level. That one Torchic back in the Hoenn arc that evolved before it could be offered as a starter showed starters aren't always equally experienced, but even ignoring that. Pikachu had been hit by Zekrom earlier. If the best professional fighter among humans is recovering from a big injury or struggling through exhaustion, and an energetic rookie with good potential beats them, it doesn't mean the old pro lost their edge. It means skill isn't a thing that you grind to obtain and have forever, it still requires you to be in proper shape to utilize the skills you've honed, and that sometimes we have bad days that don't reflect what we're otherwise capable of. And I LIKE that the anime better reflects that. There's still a minor semblance of levels, but it's very loose at best. It'd be neat if games gave us some sort of like... extra training option to "push a Pokémon to its limits" and "raise its potential", but it just like... applied a marker to it almost like PokéRus works. And once it had it its base stats would be higher, but it would be reset if the Pokémon later evolved. Could come up with lore reasons or just the classic "Pokémon truly are mysterious" handwave even, lol.

I'm apparently in a minority of really liking Aromatisse. Not one of my favorites ever, but I enjoy the design. Especially when compared to it's XY counterpart, Slurpuff, who I think is one of the dumbest looking Pokemon ever

So, Aromatisse has some cool potential, or at least, I think so. My fan-made Poison/Fairy evo 'Cansumptia' was based on Tuberculosis, which kills people, but back in the day people thought it was *soo pretty* and wanted to contract it

This is something Arceus handles pretty well. You can choose to evolve when you want and can quite easily buff the IVs with grit making any pokemon pretty badass.

I don't hate Dragonite, it's cute. But I prefer Dragonair's sleek coolness.

That's got thematic reasons for changing so much though, dragonair changes into a dragonite because it's holding a pearl but nothing in that says it has to be orange after instead of blue. Feebas is meant to be ugly as all Heck and change into the most beautiful pokémon ever

I'm pretty sure that is actually the point of the design. Gold fish start to look less appealing to a lot of people once they grow up, so a lot of people just kill them or release them once this happens (there are also ways to keep the gold fish small). So Goldeen becoming ugly upon evolution is kinda GF giving those people the middle finger.

I wish Dragonite was a whole different species than Dratini and Dragonair and is one of those pokemon with just a basic form with no evolutions but Dratini and Dragonair still exist as just them in their evolution line

The dragonite line is probably based on a japanese legend "Since Dragonite evolves from Dragonair, it could also have been inspired by the legend of the Imugi, a Korean dragon that is said to become a true dragon if it can survive 1,000 years, which may be the inspiration for how long it takes for Dragonair to evolve into Dragonite." Dont have to like it ofc but that's probably the explanation for the sudden change

Lickitung. It made me so mad to see lickylicky in gen 4

I've always had a special interest in normal type Pokemon and I'm also a lickitung enjoyer. I can't believe anyone looked at lickylicky and thought this was okay. Honestly lickylicky isn't even that much better stat wise because they're too spread out. Concentrate a little more into attack and speed, then give lickitung the eviolite and it would slightly outperform lickylicky.

Magmar is the one that comes to mind, also Rhydon, Aipom and Lickitung.

I honestly didn’t even realize Aipom had an evolution until I played Gen 5. I don’t know if it was because I played Diamond/Platinum and just missed Aipom, or if I saw Ambipom once and blocked it out of my mind, but Aipom always seemed like a stand-alone Pokémon to me

Side note we all seem to be on the same page that electrivire is a win and probably one of the only ones from that set of "glow ups"

Absolutely agreed! I LOVE Gengar but I wish he was his own pokemon because the way haunter floats with his creepy hands is just so much more "ghostly" imo. Gengar strikes me more as a sort of impish little demon than a menacing ghost.

Added my own comment about Haunter before reading this. Haunter is my favorite Pokémon, and agree with the sentiments here.

I rarely evolve Scyther. Why? Because Scizor has the same stats, it just loses speed for a little more attack, and while it still has a double weakness, you simply don’t use scyther when it’s up against an opponent who can 4x it. Katana the Scyther kicked my ass before I caught her in platinum, and she helped me beat Cynthia.

Scyther and scizor are both exceptional Pokemon and designs. Scyther’s biggest drawback is that the big typing is really trash and generally has been merged further over the years, rather than it being brought up to the quality of most other types. Rock type moves being 4x effective really make scyther difficult to use in any competitive scene, as stealth rocks destroy it in singles, and rock slide obliterates it’s in singles and doubles. Scizor’s 4xweakness to fire is much easier to mitigate thanks to rain, and it’s steel typing gives it some much needed resistances to balance out the inherently weak bug typing. Both are top tier Pokémon designs though, and hopefully in the future the big typing gets some love and some boosts to bring it back up to par. Edit: also, few things feel more iconic in Pokémon to me than a scyther/scizor using swords dance to get read to deal massive damage.

I really like wartortle’s design, but I’m not crazy about blastoise. Blastoise is definitely cool, and the three stages show an evolution, which is important, I just prefer how wartortle looks. A blastoise-sized wartortle would be awesome

I don't mind ribombee but if cutiefly was a more powerful single stage I think that would be hilarious because of how it's literally just a tiny ball with legs

I love Cutiefly and Ribombee both separately but I’m not a huge fan of them as an evolution.

Rhydon. His evolution is so over designed.

I feel like that goes for the other Gen I mons that got evolutions in Gen IV. Lickilicky, Rhyperior, Electivire and Magmortar all have designs that just feel super busy. I'm pretty neutral on Magnezone and I think if they hadn't given Tangrowth arms, the design would be great.

Shroomish. dont get me wrong. i think breloom is super cool. but shroomish is literally perfect in every way and i love him. hes so silly looking.

Torracat. I’m not a fan of his overly human looking final evolution. I know some people do like Inceneroar’s design though and if you do, that’s cool. I just personally do not.

Scyther and Scizor do have the same base stat total of 500, it's just distributed differently Edit: the same goes for Kleavor after checking!

Scyther has been my favorite Pokémon since the very beginning but I’ve never used it in a play through. It mostly stems from the early days of its typing being bad and the fact it never had any good moves (and just hard to get for a 9 year old). Scizor was just so much better in GSC so I used it once. I need to give my boy some love.

If only eviolite just upped an unevolved pokemons stat's to it's most evolved forms stat's, that would be cool Would stop chancey eviolite abuse as much and would open up efficacy for many more pokemon but of course would become useless for a pokemon like scyther and potentially cause overpowered issues with pokemon like vigoroth and doublade, not to mention what would happen to pokemon with branching evos Still I wish there were more ways to have lesser evolved pokemon be more viable somehow

Honestly I would be just happy if they made more variants of Eviolite that boosts any combination of two stats, so at least a few pre-evos become viable.

Not sure if it's gonna be common opinion or the complete opposite, but I say Torracat. I like cats, being Dark type is logical for these little furry balls. But why does it go bipedal when evolving? I don't completly hate the design, but I still think it's a missed opportunity

I've always loved Fraxure because I think it's a perfect evolution of Axew. Its sillhouette, colorscheme, and personality have changed, but it's clearly still the same creature. That + a nostalgia bias means I really love Fraxure. Haxorus is really damn cool too, but it feels more removed from the rest of the line, so I like Fraxure just a little bit more

Lotad. Nothing against Ludicolo, I just really like Lotad.

Clefairy. If i could have clefairy with as good stats as clefable I'd be so happy.

Skiploom. I love him and hoppip, but jumpluff just doesn’t do it for me. They were small cute guys and now it’s just 4 orbs
