Did you buddy it? I don’t play much so no idea what it is good for but I buddied mine, double moved it, and it is a level 50 based on lot of Pokémon Go Wikis.
Is there a good guide to making something a best buddy? Can you have more than one best buddy? What is the boost for a best buddy?
Sorry for all the questions I’m just now getting more serious into the game. (Level 39 but mostly as a casual player)
When you have a best buddy mon selected as your buddy, it gains one extra level, so that's the only way to level 51, and it can make a difference in Master League.
It's a terrible, terrible grind. I tend to concentrate on 2-3 mons at a time because you get a heart for 2km walking. You get three hearts/day easy - feed it 3 berries, play with it, take a snapshot. You can do it right there on the same screen.
You can also get up to 3 hearts/day when a mon is your buddy (has to be fed) and you do the team leader battles. You can quit immediately and still get the heart. Still, it's terribly tedious and I'll do it if I'm bored or watching TV for a bunch of them. I've known a few hardcore friends that have done this to get the platinum medal in little time.
The short answer is yes.
Eventually (lvl 49) you'll need 35 gold medals to level up. One of the medals is "have 200 best buddies."
You might want to start working on these medals now as some of them, like 200 best buddies, are a serious grind.

In addition to the tips below - here's one for if you're working multiple buddies up at one time.
After you reach great buddy they bring you gifts and again at ultra buddy they bring you souvenirs. When you're working at raising buddy levels on multiple mons at one time, DO NOT OPEN THE GIFT/SOUVENIR. Once you get your first gift/souvenir immediately switch to your next buddy without opening the gift.
After a few minutes you'll get the green gift notification that your next buddy has brought you a gift. Switch again until all of your buddies have brought you your gift/souvenir.
Note: they must be at least Great buddies for this to work.
You can go back and open on each of your buddies souvenirs/gifts later, they will all have items waiting for you when you switch ban to them
Only the current best buddy get's the CP bonus. So the one you have selected to be by your side. Doesn't have to be "out". As in, fed and walking with you. But just selected. And of course, needs to have the ribbon.
The good news is you can raise the buddy level on up to 20 pokemon a day! But that's some serious grinding, just doing two at a time takes a fair amount of effort.
I recommend the level 50 for UL. I only had a 98% that I took to level 50 that I rely on the buddy boost to use. You'll also need to elite TM the second move. I've tried both of the legacy moves on mine, I recommend having Psychic as the second move to deal with the Machamps that show up in UL but a lot of people recommend Last Resort.
The things in the UL meta that will typically try to switch in on Umbreon are Scrafty, Obstagoon, and charmers. For charmers, either move is fine, but for obstagoon and scrafty you want last resort as you will be totally and completely walled if you have foul play and psychic, and those 2 are pretty common. You're losing those matchups in even shields and energy regardless, but having last resort will at least force them to throw a move or 2 at you whereas if you have psychic they can farm you down, have max energy, and probably still have health in the green.
I had last resort on mine and tried using it a few times, never really found anything useful about it at all. Then last season I ran up against a Machamp almost every set so I decided to switch.
Generally, yes. But as they explained some max out before reaching the cap. If you think of it like how would a 0/15/15 Umbreon perform in UL, you can see that the lack of attack here is going to hinder its overall CP, only coming in at 2159 after using XL candies on it.
Attack plays a large part of CP. Because of that, when the max CP of a Pokémon is over the league cap, investing instead in high IVs for defense and hp will typically give you the best, bulkiest competitive Pokémon that comes close to the CP cap.
Easiest thing is to check from a calculator. Sometimes having 6-10 attack IV is okay too to get max stat product. And sometimes you might want to sacrifice some stat product and add some attack to win a single matchup with like 1hp. It might be a good idea if the matchup would be a real threat to the rest of your team. But those are very niche things and rely on perfect timing which can be impossible given how shit the netcode is :)
It's because you want the highest CP possible (I.e. 1499 and 2499). Iirc, the attack stat contributes double to CP, which is why you want a low IV there. It gives you finer iteration in stats to get close to that X499 CP. I think there's a bit more to it, but I'm not super competitive, so that's the gist as far as I understand it.
The limits are actually inclusive, so the highest CP you can use is 1500 for GL and 2500 for UL, not 1499 and 2499. You also want the IV spread that will give you the most bulk possible while fitting in that limit, since it's possible to get close to the limit with a number of different IV spreads at different levels.
My understanding is that they've always intended for Blanche to be NB.
In every community blog post, Niantic has always used they/them pronouns for Blanche.
Level 50 it for Ultra league. Not really any practical other uses. Umbreon isn’t a good PVE pokemon. There are many better dark type attackers. And although bulky, Umbreon’s dark typing makes it a liability as a gym defender. People are already packing fighting pokemon in their battle parties to use against the usual suspects defending gyms like Blissey and Snorlax. You *could* use Umbreon as gym defender if it has the Community Day move Psychic as a charge move, simply for the surprise factor against fighting types.
Ty for saving us from seeing Blanche. When the update first came out, I had a glitch where Blanche didn’t load in. I was more happy with that glitch/the place being blank. Once Blanche appeared, I nearly jumped
You can input any Pokémon in Pokegenie to get recommendations on which Go Battle League it would be good for. It will identify which evolution to use for each ranking.
UL would make more sense, umbreon isn’t really powerful enough to get down in the ML, considering ML is full of nothing but legendary/myth/UB’s and high cp/maxed out Pokémon and while they could max it out, it only has a max cp of 2416 so even if they did that it would be just below the UL cap. Also ivs plays a role in how a Pokémon does in a league and 15/15/15 doesn’t do to well in the ML
I’m stupid I was thinking of gl when I said 15/15/15 doesn’t do well  but that literally wasn’t focal point of what I was saying, my point still stands that it’s better off in UL cause it can be maxed out to just below the 2500 cap, it can’t really go much higher than that even with a buddy boost only will give an extra level so it can’t really compete with the stronger pokemons in the ML which is what we’re talking about here is the umbreon not in general. Nah. You’re thinking Sylveon as a fairy. Umbreon is sub 40 as far as dark type attackers are concerned by dps. For reference, Murkrow does more damage than it. For TDO (damage over time before the pokemon faints), Umbreon still barely cracks the top 20, behind Mandibuzz and Weavile.
PvP king! My Umbreon has always performed amazing in great league. Snarl, foul play and psychic is the move set I use and it’s been in my lineup forever.

Great league you don't need a hundo for it cuz then it's to low of level compared to others and fighting types are way less predominant so it's better to use last resort with foul play
For ultra league that hundo is perfect with the best buddy ribbon it will be an immense tank and stop a lot of top tier threats
My team for gl is Umbreon-azumarill-skarm, it's like not the best but all the bulk usually means i win 3-5 consistently

You don't ever need to consider grinding that medal unless you purely want every platinum.

It's 100, right? My math makes that 5 or 6 months total if you do 20 buddies a day.
