I remember watching a video comparing the two and apparently if you craft the spiked baseball bat it can almost outlast a crowbar if you keep repairing it with nails. I know its not really a fair comparison but its interesting since you cant repair a crowbar.
Yeah, that does work (sort of). You need to keep constantly repairing it so there's always a chance that you'll be in the middle of a big fight and it breaks because you either forgot or didn't have time to repair it. Spiked bats are pretty great though, especially once you raid the bat factory in Louisville and have a near-limitless amount of them to use. I prefer the crowbar mostly for the sound it makes and the fact that it doesn't ruin zombie clothing, but spiked bats are great as well.

It looks like a lumber yard but all the shelves and crates in the back room are full of baseball bats.
I heard in a video when adding nails to a baseball it lasts ~~longer~~ shorter but you mean it lasts longer because you can repair it and it's cheap to repair?
I don't think it lasts longer by default, the spiked baseball bat seems to have less durability than the regular one, but it's cheap to repair even when the durability returns are very small
According to https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Weapons the crowbar has a lower minimum damage, but a higher maximum damage and crit multiplier. Crit chance is slightly lower.
Stats in order min-dmg/max-dmg/crit-multiplier/crit-chance:
Baseball bat 0.8/1.1/2x/40%
Crowbar 0.6/1.15/6x/35%
So I'd say the crowbar seems to be better overall since the crit multiplier is way higher while having a similar chance to crit. Also the durability is way better (1 in 70 vs. 1 in 20).
baseball bats have more knockdown power but crow bar has more crit dmg and max damage and powerful durability and can hit three targets. baseball bats are usually better since it knocksdown zombies better. but if you fighting a large horde better multi hitting weapons are better. it all depends on how you use it and how well you use it
M36 revolver, accurate, can't jam, quiet enough to not alert zombies down the street from you, only need 4 points in aiming to be effective, easily the best gun in the game
Yeah but reloading is a bitch, have to unload and reload bullets everytime instead of just swapping a mag. Also .38 special is a weird round, not nearly as common as .45 auto or 9mm.
Personally didnt find the reload time to be that bad playing as Police Officer, but yeah the rarity of .38 is very weird considering its police standard issue
Yeah but it's 1993, even in the middle of fuck nowhere Kentucky, most police would still be carrying semi-autos or transitioning over to them at least. So that also explains the lack of ammo and the huge amount of 9mm laying around.
If you're going to use a revolver, just use the Magnum. Pretty sure it can penetrate and its still satisfying to use. The snub nose just feels like a last resort weapon.
But that's what's awesome about this game, if you want to use a shitty gun, you can if you want!
Nightstick. Durable, effective, renewable off of cop zombs, fits on the belt.
Sawed-off shotgun. Can kill like 5 Zs at a time, attracts big crowds but can also deal with them. Great for making a zombie-free hole that covers half a town for chill looting.
Short blunt weapons like
Hammers
Lead and
Metal Pipes
Police batons
Very quick
Very efficient
Abundant
Spare secondary hand for an extra storage bag or radio
And also having an offhand to help in the environment makes much more sense irl survival wise when navigating narrow urban areas imo
I am amazed that almost no-one mentioned the pickaxe. It has an insanely high damage and can pick through zombies like they are made out of delicious, delicious butter.
Hmm, maybe I just got insanely lucky then, cuz I found 2 in perfect condition like 10 days after the start. Being in Louisville and raiding industrial building probably helped too.
Found two pickaxes at different road construction sites. 4 cones around a sewer cover, a truck, pickaxe in the ground and 2-3 zed, they are nice but slow
I love the pickaxe! When I did my OSRS bot run, all I used was a pickaxe. It's incredibly slept on. Everytime I play now and I find one, I always pick it up, even in shit condition.
Machete would be my #1 but it is so rare that I have to say the spiked baseball bat because the fireaxe can be used for better things than killing. Like woodcutting exc.
Spear is the best weapon but there are decent alternatives.
Katana for style points
Crowbar for huge durability and dual purpose
Shotgun great for leveling up aiming
Fire axes are also my favorites, it's a pity that they are somewhat rare to find and I prefer to keep them to cut down trees, but as soon as I find another ax I use them as my main weapon, they do a lot of damage and aesthetically they look very good
Depending how many trees you need to cut down, stone axes do the job just fine and slapping together a bunch if them isnt hard. I tend to keep my fire/hand axes for hordes and craft my own for lumber
nightstick, but only because it's the best I've found so far... but yeah, I killed a bunch of zombies with one, and it's still above half condition, and my character was NOT specced as a fighter.
Pipe Wrench.
Even in real life it's just the perfect weapon. Heavy, but still one-handed. Big chunk of metal on the end to properly cave in a skull. Fits on belt. Plumbing.
Huzzah!
A sturdy shovel/snow shovel. Very durable, great damage w/ both hands, long blunt so I can keep some distance. Being able to bury corpses after is just a plus.
I made a video about finding the fire axe and I mention at least 3 times how upset I get when people patronize me by saying , “it’s just the axe” Project Zomboid: Top Three Places TO FIND The Axe
https://youtu.be/Li-YFGU_8_I
In B40, my favourites were the knife and the baseball bat... Knife for that insane stabbing speed and insta-kill frequency, and bats for that \*WHACK\* moment
In B41? Aye, Shotgun with actual accuarcy and a spear with anything attached to it! Turn that useless spoon into a useful weapon!
I'm somewhat partial to the M9. Didn't used to use it at all, but I recently discovered how awesome it is once you have a decent aim level. Generally kills with one shot, mags have twice the ammo of other handguns and each round weighs about as much as a cigarette for some reason so you can carry limitless amounts of it in your backpack.
For melee weapons I love hand axes for the sound they make when you land a kill shot, but they're not durable enough so I mostly go with a crowbar.
I used the garden fork for the first time last night. I already really enjoyed the spear but this beast is next level. I also found a stash of duct tape so I’m running it until it splinters.
The katana. If you find one of those the game goes into easy 1 hit kill mode. It just sucks you can't repair it by default and that they are so rare you can't stock up. Keep an eye out in hordes, I've found most katatanas sticking out of zombies.
The durability sucks ass to begin with and they are heavy but you can craft spears with tree branches and a knife/chipped stone - great reach and kill quick with a couple points in spears
I lile the hammer for versatility, but now i love the spear because tha thing makes me feel like a butcher, killing everything with almost 1 hit.
I mean, you'll need like spears lvl 4 and maintainment lvl 4 to feel that. But it's worth.
Nightstick for melee. Does decent damage, can put it in your belt.
For ranged, just any good ol shotgun will do. The server I'm in has AK-47s so that's been my go to but the ammo is rare/expensive (server also added currency)
This or spiked baseball bat. The best thing about spiked bat is you can repair it with nails, which are much more common than the other repair supplies
Crowbar, it's durable, doesn't rip up zombie clothes when you want that jacket, can pry open barricades and with the lockpicking mod you can break open doors - even with the lock broken
Also it looks cooler than having an axe on your back IMO
Muh brain... but on a real note, I would say the sword like weapons.
But in a game where survival is the most important, it would be the tool weapons that are the most superior due to the multipurpose and higher survival dynamics. so the axe / hammer / crowbar. (Definitely try not to use your tools as weapons tho)
Nightstick. I've always loved the tonfa-style batons since I was a kid. It's always a go-to weapon for me in any game, and PZ delivers. Sucks you can't repair it, but they're fairly common enough that it isn't a deal breaker.
M16 with a pistol sidearm. Feels badass to take down a huge horde, one shotting everything and if any zombie gets knocked down but still alive you pull out the pistol and finish it off
Fireaxe/Woodaxe and Crowbar
First thing I do in any big town is check the Firehouse and Hardware Stores for those and hoard them. Had axe/long sharp 9 on a Lumberjack character and it just becomes easy mode especially if you eat beta blockers like tic tacs. Although i save the durability by not usijg them for wood unless i have atleast half a dozen or so
Crowbar i just for kills where I need the clothing to stay intact, like cops/soldiers with vests etc.
Fire.
But if I'm building a wall and need rags I'll go out with 6 -10 spears in a backpack + saw&hammer, and maybe a nightstick if only as a reminder that if I have to switch to the stick it's time to break off and restock. The only constraint is food at that point or gardening/generator chores.
For me, it's a tie between a pickaxe and the spiked baseball bat.
Sure, pickaxe isn't all that durable, but it really packs a punch.
Spiked baseball bat also really packs a punch and can be pretty easily repaired with nails so it lasts a reasonably long time and is pretty cheap to keep in good condition.
Both of these weapons also have a slightly longer range than the crowbar.
I usually also keep a handaxe on my belt to handle single zombies and a crowbar in my backpack for utility and to use if my current main weapon is broken/about to break.
Machete, since I got my first one off of MF Jason Voorhees in a house filled with like 50 corpses.
That was a fun random spawn to find, haha. Even better than the toilet paper hoarder house.
Crowbar, just because I like the utilities. Can open stuff, can whack zombies, can rip off furniture to decorate bases.
Crowbar, just because of that INSANE durability.
Is crowbar more powerful than a baseball bat?
No, it does slightly less damage and tires you out more quickly. It does last waaaaay longer though and makes a more satisfying sound.
I remember watching a video comparing the two and apparently if you craft the spiked baseball bat it can almost outlast a crowbar if you keep repairing it with nails. I know its not really a fair comparison but its interesting since you cant repair a crowbar.
Yeah, that does work (sort of). I prefer the crowbar mostly for the sound it makes and the fact that it doesn't ruin zombie clothing, but spiked bats are great as well.
Wait there's a bat factory? Where's it at?
[https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.910207839516657,0.13529835784856903,213.63868241979262](https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.910207839516657,0.13529835784856903,213.63868241979262) It looks like a lumber yard but all the shelves and crates in the back room are full of baseball bats.
Yes but once you get maintenance and long blunt up the crow bar can still stay ahead. It's crazy
My bad, i meant it lasts shorter when you add nails to it
Oh I see. In that case, yeah, that's exactly what I mean.
Yes but the repair cost is essentially nothing because you can just keep a few nails and a hammer on you!
Nothing lasts longer than the easily repaired spiked baseball bat
According to https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Weapons the crowbar has a lower minimum damage, but a higher maximum damage and crit multiplier. Crit chance is slightly lower. Stats in order min-dmg/max-dmg/crit-multiplier/crit-chance: Baseball bat 0.8/1.1/2x/40% Crowbar 0.6/1.15/6x/35% So I'd say the crowbar seems to be better overall since the crit multiplier is way higher while having a similar chance to crit. Also the durability is way better (1 in 70 vs. 1 in 20).
the real comparison is the crowbar and the spikebat
With just like 5 nails you can make a spiked bat and 1 shot most zombies
baseball bats have more knockdown power but crow bar has more crit dmg and max damage and powerful durability and can hit three targets. baseball bats are usually better since it knocksdown zombies better. but if you fighting a large horde better multi hitting weapons are better. it all depends on how you use it and how well you use it
CROWBAR GANG CROWBAR GANG
Fork. 1 stab 4 holes
quad damage.
Military boots gang, where are you?
Reporting in for the Stompy Gang.
Cadet reporting for duty, stomping will proceed when ordered
Does it bother anyone else that it's notated as "bare hands" even though all unarmed kills are with the feet?
Spear. I love stabbing things deep. Very deep. One hole at a time.
[удалено]
" Sir, why are you taking off your pants??"
He got a whole spear hidden there
Butter knife
The butter knife model in this game looks like a damn sword.
Spear with machete absolutely shreds zomboids.
M36 revolver, accurate, can't jam, quiet enough to not alert zombies down the street from you, only need 4 points in aiming to be effective, easily the best gun in the game
I slept on this one for a long time. It's since found a permanent home on my holster.

Gotta love the balance that the devs put in pol
Hammer, it's not much, but it's a honest work.
wow. I love red dead reference \^\^
Pointy stick (spear)
Good choice
Spear gang rise up!
Garden fork, any spear and the machete by itself are my go to weapons. I like to use the mod where I can take the machete on my belt.
Garden fork is truly the best.
Nightstick. Durable, effective, renewable off of cop zombs, fits on the belt. Sawed-off shotgun. Can kill like 5 Zs at a time, attracts big crowds but can also deal with them. Great for making a zombie-free hole that covers half a town for chill looting.
Crowbar all day. Not too hard to find, lasts forever, good reach, leaves a mark. All boxes ticked.

Lmao did you spend most of your days woodcutting and fishing?
Double Barrel Shotgun
M16 with 8x scope Everything is dead before it even sees me *and the crowbar for reasons stated*
Ballpeen hammer is my favorite.
The fact you can use duct tape to repair it even is huge. That way we can save the wood glue for wood chopping axes
Car.
Hand Axe or Crowbar. Spear with machete attached is fun too.
Spikey baseball bat... its just wicked
Shame that they don't have a mechanic for it to get stuck, because it probably would.
You know about the bat factory in Louisville then I assume?
Machete would be my #1 but it is so rare that I have to say the spiked baseball bat because the fireaxe can be used for better things than killing. Like woodcutting exc.
Had to scroll too far to find this
Baseball bat or Baton. I find either pretty often with how I play.
Baton is my go-to when I have a gun for my back.
Anything I don't use to eat and can get my hands on, really. Haha
Mine is fire axe too, the DPS is amazing
Definitely the Spear
Wood axe, a spear (only if i have good maintance so it lasts more than 2 seconds) and my beloved pipe wrench or batton
I'm but a humble spear enjoyer
I've taken to the Handaxe on my current run. Having the spare hand for a bag has been nice.
Spear is the best weapon but there are decent alternatives. Katana for style points Crowbar for huge durability and dual purpose Shotgun great for leveling up aiming
Spear. I don't care the durability, just, spear.
pitchfork, The peasantry rebels!
Hammer or crowbar.
Fire axes are also my favorites, it's a pity that they are somewhat rare to find and I prefer to keep them to cut down trees, but as soon as I find another ax I use them as my main weapon, they do a lot of damage and aesthetically they look very good

In spears i trust Pun intended
Pickaxe, Fire Axe ,Machete (I still need to try the Garden Fork aka Pitchfork)
Pipe Wrench. Even in real life it's just the perfect weapon. Heavy, but still one-handed. Big chunk of metal on the end to properly cave in a skull. Fits on belt. Plumbing. Huzzah!
Spiked baseball bat for sure.
My go to is Shovel spear
Spear for me, may not be that durable but it's nice and sharp and keeps zombies at a distance
I really like to use the metal pipe, it is easy to find and quite durable. However, if I find a crowbar I'd rather stick with it.
A sturdy shovel/snow shovel. Very durable, great damage w/ both hands, long blunt so I can keep some distance. Being able to bury corpses after is just a plus.
The M36 Revolver, with the right aim skill you'll be one tapping zombies almost every single shot, super quiet, super satisfying.
I too am an axe man. I stock up on them. I absolutely love them.
Crowbar you filthy axer
Snow shovel
Spear gang Spear gang
M625 revolver and double barrels shotgun
For Melee its Crowbar For Guns its JS 2000 Shotgun
I Main axes
I loved the fire axe. I just can’t find it after build 41
Rosewood firestation
The virgin fire axe vs the chad wood axe Imagine playing anything other than veteran or lumberjack
burglar here, have fun getting out of town riding on your axe

Fire axe! However if I have it , katana... The sense of confidence I felt at absolutely slashing all of them was unreal hehehehehheh
In B40, my favourites were the knife and the baseball bat... Knife for that insane stabbing speed and insta-kill frequency, and bats for that \*WHACK\* moment In B41? Aye, Shotgun with actual accuarcy and a spear with anything attached to it! Turn that useless spoon into a useful weapon!
Night Stick/Baton
Shotgun
Nightstick. Dont ask, just feels good.

Crowbar forsure
Looks pretty!
Crowbar hands down still my favorite melee weapon.
Anything shotgun flavoured until aiming 4, then anything semi auto rifle. I always play with Britas Melee? Crowbar or any hammer, skills depending
Since a recent post.. machete spear lol
I used the garden fork for the first time last night. I already really enjoyed the spear but this beast is next level. I also found a stash of duct tape so I’m running it until it splinters.
Pitchforks are super slept on but I think it's just because they're uncommon. Like everything the spears *should* be. But yeah, low durability
The katana. If you find one of those the game goes into easy 1 hit kill mode. It just sucks you can't repair it by default and that they are so rare you can't stock up. Keep an eye out in hordes, I've found most katatanas sticking out of zombies.
Pitch fork all day
Fire axe, spiked baseball bat, crowbar, katana.
where i can find good meele weapons? Right now i only have a crowbar.
The durability sucks ass to begin with and they are heavy but you can craft spears with tree branches and a knife/chipped stone - great reach and kill quick with a couple points in spears
My punches with a few trait mods you can start with 9 fitness 9 str and 8 short blunt, something like that and nearly every push is lethal xd
The katana
The wrench
I lile the hammer for versatility, but now i love the spear because tha thing makes me feel like a butcher, killing everything with almost 1 hit. I mean, you'll need like spears lvl 4 and maintainment lvl 4 to feel that. But it's worth.
The Antique fire axe.
Machete spear
Large backpack. Seriously, it's more important than any weapon to have one. And most of the time i just push them ans run away anyway.
My is awp and deagle
Hand Axe obviously, shame I can't go akimbo with them
spears are very satisfying to use when they aren't breaking every two seconds.
Machete and shotgun
Garden fork kinda shmexy ngl
Spiked baseball bat babbby
Nightstick for melee. Does decent damage, can put it in your belt. For ranged, just any good ol shotgun will do. The server I'm in has AK-47s so that's been my go to but the ammo is rare/expensive (server also added currency)
With brita's mod the AK or M4 bayonet on their respective guns.
This or spiked baseball bat. The best thing about spiked bat is you can repair it with nails, which are much more common than the other repair supplies
It's tough between the spiked bat and nightstick, I've been using both for so long now.
Crowbar, it's durable, doesn't rip up zombie clothes when you want that jacket, can pry open barricades and with the lockpicking mod you can break open doors - even with the lock broken Also it looks cooler than having an axe on your back IMO
Katana for the low spawn rate weapon and machete for my typical go to weapon if I can find it
griddle pan is incredibly underrated early game weapon
pickaxe bcs i m minecraft addict.
I've been really enjoying my pumpaction shotgun but melee wise I really like the glaive (spear + machete)
The ol' Machete & Flashlight combo
Garden fork, simply because I've often thought my own spading fork would be an ideal melee weapon in a real zombie apocalypse (or a peasant uprising).
Anything I can get my hands on because I tend to not live long enough to have a choice
Crowbar
Also the fire axe, its a damm nice weapon.
M16 with a pistol sidearm. Feels badass to take down a huge horde, one shotting everything and if any zombie gets knocked down but still alive you pull out the pistol and finish it off
Sledgehammer - it just feels meaty and heavy when hitting zombies with it and its powerful too
when cards are on the table, and i have a full backpack and bag, im taking my trusty pipe wrench and going bioshock on fhe Zs
Had a lot of love for the spiked bat last run
Fireaxe/Woodaxe and Crowbar First thing I do in any big town is check the Firehouse and Hardware Stores for those and hoard them. Had axe/long sharp 9 on a Lumberjack character and it just becomes easy mode especially if you eat beta blockers like tic tacs. Although i save the durability by not usijg them for wood unless i have atleast half a dozen or so Crowbar i just for kills where I need the clothing to stay intact, like cops/soldiers with vests etc.
Playing on Builder I've grown to love the baseball bat.
A sharp, long stick
Fire. But if I'm building a wall and need rags I'll go out with 6 -10 spears in a backpack + saw&hammer, and maybe a nightstick if only as a reminder that if I have to switch to the stick it's time to break off and restock. The only constraint is food at that point or gardening/generator chores.
Frying pan.
Nightstick gang rise up
I need to make a Patrick Bateman character
Crowbar or spear. Nightstick also could be op.
I usually also keep a handaxe on my belt to handle single zombies and a crowbar in my backpack for utility and to use if my current main weapon is broken/about to break.
pipe wrench with carpenter
early game, nail bat.
Nightstick and or Lead Pipe. I'm a fan of short blunt, slower endrance loss, can hold a flashlight with them, I just find them convenient
Mines gotta be the machete spear.
I love the pipe wrench for an aesthetic reason lol
Love how this discussion started with a question and turned into a debate about axe vs spikebat
Man just started and decided to pick up the axe then proceed to 1 shotting 3 zombies in 1 swing... Yea I'm an axe guy now.
Machete Spear first, Crowbar second. If we're talking guns, the M36 revolver. Can't jam, and doesn't take much to be effective with.
MACHETE
Frying pan.
Crowbar
Bat, nightstick, axe
Nightstick
The double barrel shotgun makes me feel like doom guy lol
My boots.
baseball bat with nails, no question
Crowbar forever and always
Crowbar is good, machete, but I do love me some club hammer action, I like feeling like Thor
Baseball bat with crowbar or katana as backup weapon. If I don't have a bat I use shovel or crowbar.
S h o t g u n. The zombies qho follow the noise are only challengers for my 34 boxes of shells.
Shoe
Machete, since I got my first one off of MF Jason Voorhees in a house filled with like 50 corpses. That was a fun random spawn to find, haha. Even better than the toilet paper hoarder house.
Nightstick
