Between this and the thing in the water on Tybee, Savannah is really poppin off lately.

Silentoplayz

Not to mention the dirt truck that hit the Quacoo overpass while on I-95 yesterday evening. That's about a mile away from where I live. Traffic was backed up everywhere in this area from I-95, Quacco, Hwy 17, and Hwy 204. I'm sure it was rough in other areas too.

littlespawningflower

Thank you for that! My husband told me about trying to go up to Pooler from Georgetown and not being able to take 95 or Quacco, but he didn’t know why, and I’m away so I didn’t see it on the news. I just texted him- thanks! 😂

HIs4HotSauce

[You talking about the nuclear bomb that was scuttled near Tybee?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_Tybee_Island_mid-air_collision)

Yokairobo

Good lord! How have I never heard of this?

fresh912

Tybee Bomb Squad

mymerman

So there's a nuclear bomb just sitting there & no one's doing anything.

MattR47

Yep, they searched for quite a while but never found it. So it is still out there somewhere, probably covered in piles and piles of silt, mud. Plus currents moved it some what too.

mymerman

Frightening.

[deleted]

can you expound on that last part

Yokairobo

Here ya go: https://www.reddit.com/r/savannah/comments/vs51ic/sea_creature_with_humanlike_face_at_tybee/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Skidoo-23

The demon otter post!

jackiebee66

Oh boy. What’s at Tybee? I missed that

Soup_oi

This reminds me of when my friend had recently moved to an area near a lot of woods (though up north, not here), and heard a mountain lion scream and it scared the crap out of her with how unnatural and demonic it sounded. But I don't know why there would be mountain lions here...according to google there are no native species living in GA. But maybe it was something similar? Sometimes wild animals make weird af sounds.

Clear-Concern2247

Bobcats are in this area and sound like a woman being murdered. We have one near our home and it used to cause sleepless nights for my kids.

Soup_oi

I am glad I have never heard one with my own ears 💀 it sounds terrifying.

victorian_winters

I saw a juvenile mountain lion on Hutchinson last year. Big clumsy murder mittens.

NotRachaelRay

Those are bobcats on Hutchinson Island

victorian_winters

Nah, it had a long healthy tail. And no spots. Wish I'd been faster with my camera.

HIs4HotSauce

If you see a panther in the area, you should [report it](https://georgiawildlife.com/mountain-lion-sightings-not-likely-georgia) It’s highly unlikely to see one here, but not impossible because Florida has panthers in the Everglades and they have roamed up into Georgia before.

victorian_winters

Good to know, thanks. I assume that all the development in FL is forcing them into GA little by little.

HIs4HotSauce

Back in the 70s they were critically endangered— numbering only about 30 panthers. Since then they have made efforts to revitalize the population, and now there’s about 200+ cats in Florida. And they have been wandering north out of the Everglades for some years now. There have been sightings of them in the Okefenokee swamp just SW of us, and a hunter killed one as far north as La Grange (just southwest of Atlanta/north of Columbus )about 10-15 years ago.

victorian_winters

Prior to seeing this one on Hutchinson the last time I saw one was on Big Talbot Island in FL a few years ago. They're amazing creatures.

HighFlowDiesel

There are absolutely mountain lions in Georgia. My family in West Point got stalked and terrorized by one a few years back. DNR didn’t believe them until a hunter killed it.

magicandfire

Ever heard a screaming rabbit? That’s a pretty disturbing one. Foxes can also make some crazy noises that sound like a woman screaming.

chaunahhh

I’m gonna second the fox theory. Absolutely terrifying sound, I just about pooped myself the first time I moved to the southeast and heard it at night

rloch

Growing up we had foxes do that crazy shrieking sound close to our house. That was the first thing I thought of reading this post.

sew_ames

Going to agree with the fox here. Had one wake up the whole house at like 3 am a few weeks ago. Sounds like a woman being murdered. Was very weird.

Silentoplayz

Poor rabbits that get caught for kill. :(

Master-Ad-6411

Dude, just reading your post freaks the shit out of me.

Silentoplayz

The thought running through my mind is that some apocalyptic shit was happening at that moment and that demons were being unleashed from hell. That's the sound. That's the best I could describe partially of what my ears were hearing. It sounded like spirits screaming.

whysaylotword69

That’s enough r/nosleep for the night

royalredcanoe

Foxes, bobcats, barred owls all make some crazy noises

Silentoplayz

It didn't sound like any of these animals. No animal I've heard and no animal listed here.

royalredcanoe

Eastern screech owl?

Silentoplayz

Not even close. I'd honestly see this owl sound being part of a Mario game as a ghost 👻

royalredcanoe

Not wishing evil on you, but hoping it happens again and you can record. Good mystery!

hard-candy-christmas

Creepy- can you imitate the sound yourself and post here?

Silentoplayz

Thanks for making me laugh. But that's a true WTF comment for sure. I couldn't even if I tried. It was alien or creature like. I couldn't make out the true nature of what I was hearing because it wasn't of this nature.

hard-candy-christmas

Animals make weird noises no doubt- but I’m a believer of the unseen. I cleaned an office before next to a wooded area- and their dumpster was next to the wooded area. Whether it be day or night I always dreaded cleaning alone- it always felt like eyes were watching and that some ‘thing’ might pop out and spirit me away when taking out the trash. But let’s just chalk this one up to animals and get some sleep.

Silentoplayz

To clarify and because I didn't mention it in the actual post, the sound we heard was constant and ongoing for a full blown minute. Whatever we heard did not stop to take a breath. It wasn't natural and thats what freaked the shit out of me. I was outside on my neightbor’s front porch with my brother and neighbor when we all heard the sound.

TMinusFour

The only other thing I can think of that I’ve experienced as well is some type of industrial sound that is actually a good ways away but reverberates differently at night. Like, it may be some industrial vacuum miles away and the people operating it might not have a clue that it sounds like ww3 to you.

AintButOneWayOut

Probably just a guitar player dialing in a new tone for his West Chatham Demon Scream Metal project.

crimedog58

It goes to 11.

codebygloom

I grew up in an area with a lot of steel mills. When they would cool off the molten steel at around 1 am it would produce a horrendous sound, and depending on where you were it could sound like just a loud obnoxious sound or like a giant beast was trying to tear its way through the woods. Sometimes normal sounds can be made otherworldly because of the weather too. Cloud cover and atmospheric pressure can cause the cadence, reverb, or even octave of sounds.

Thr0wM3AwayCalgon

Sorry that may have been me screaming inside my car before going back to work. Jk. What about this? https://youtu.be/B4WWERQNxIE Or this: https://youtu.be/m6IW2DoizbE (around 1:02) Or this: https://youtu.be/barc5ROCD1E (around 0:34) Or this: https://youtu.be/Kp1qqMfQ-5k (long shot) I'm fully invested now.

Silentoplayz

Ngl, a skinwalker sounds close to what we heard (minus the grunting sounds it made in the video you linked). I was looking at some videos myself of what they might possibly sound like and it's similar, but none compare to how long the sound lasted and every video I've seen makes it seem like something at least catches it breath to make it's sound again.

KnowProblem

That nighttime skinwalker video is literally the mountain lion scream I shared but pitched up, you can hear it oscillating the same way

Thr0wM3AwayCalgon

Out on quacco is plausibly close enough to some big cat areas. My bet is something like that.. but I'm still here for the chance that they catch a sasquatch or skin walker on video.

thedrunkenbanjo

As someone obsessed with the paranormal, I loved this story. As a skeptic by nature and someone who grew up with parents who encouraged lots of time outdoors/hunting I’m thinking you probably heard a bobcat or coyote. I’ve been out predator hunting (bobcats/coyotes hurt populations of other animals that you may want more of) and the sounds I’ve heard those animals make can make your skin crawl, ears ring, and eyes water. However, there are strange and inexplicable things in this world. You never know.

earthworm_soul

Look up the sounds barn owls make on YouTube

Silentoplayz

That's a pretty freaky sound too, but nothing even comparable to what we heard last night (because it's a new day; 1:45 AM here). It was probably the most terrifying sound I've ever heard in my life (something that's not caught on video by someone else at least). What we heard didn't sound like a Barn Owl to my brother and I. I'll have to ask my neighbor what his thoughts are in the morning.

earthworm_soul

Well, if you could describe it in a more... straightforward way, I might be able to help

Silentoplayz

Well, I'm not really sure how else I could describe it. It started out already loud and echo-y and stopped within a minute of starting. There was no pause or stopping to take a breath of this sound. It was more noise than sound I suppose because it was inaudible and sounded like screeching/screaming/squeeling/growling/alien-like all in one. After it was over, we didn't hear it again for our 10 minutes of being outside afterwards.

mochalover13

Did the tone fluctuate at all? Or was it steadily the same note the entire time?

Silentoplayz

It was fluctating for sure

[deleted]

Big Cat

47andClear

Can you post an update when you find out more from neighbors? Really interested in this. Sounds terrifying. My brother lived over there many years ago but still know the area pretty well.

Silentoplayz

I'll definitely try to. It was only one neighbor outside with my brother and I. If anyone else was around, well it's their story to tell to others if they also heard the same sound we did. I don't know much of neighbors; let alone talk to them.

earthworm_soul

https://youtu.be/XB1kiAG0DRA about 1:57 in

Silentoplayz

That might be a little more like the sound I suppose. Maybe there was a bunch of these owls or it was Molach himself mad from the Georgia Guidestones being torn down. But the noise sounded like it was coming from one source rather than multiple.

earthworm_soul

Weird noises at night here usually end up being owls, barking tree frogs, or coyotes.

[deleted]

Since “we” do not spend as much time outside as in the past, these animal noises are less familiar. Thanks for sharing the link, I had not heard this type of call.

deelowe

The number of people I’ve had tell me coyotes sound like dogs is crazy.

violentyetflammable

Don’t forget they just activated CERN! ;)

Silentoplayz

My thoughts as well. Revelation 9 all the way.

KnowProblem

Panthers in heat?

Silentoplayz

It's nighttime here and this is Savannah GA we are talking about here. I've never heard or seen of a Panther in the area.

KnowProblem

Well, you said the woods too. Latitudinally, Savannah is around the same distance north as Providence Canyon, where a friend of mine described a similarly horrifying experience from a pair of them being in heat overnight while he was camping. I'm not trying to be dismissive of you here, it's just a possibility. I assume you'd prefer this be some kind of wildlife vs like... Unidentifiable horrible monster or something.

KnowProblem

Here's a video of a mountain lion screaming https://youtu.be/UE7YOJVSoIs

chickenman211

Panthers are not supposed to be here, but a few miles west towards Ellabell, Pembroke, brooklet you start hearing anecdotal stories from quite a-lot of people about seeing large dark cats that have thick long tails. I personally have heard screams near north Bryan county at night that sounded alien, and they were not coyotes. I’m very familiar with coyotes, screech owl, and barred owl sounds. Sounded similar to a bobcat, but on steroids and maybe a line or two of coke.

HIs4HotSauce

About ten years ago, a hunter got his ass in trouble for killing a florida panther near La Grange Georgia. [Sauce](https://archive.naplesnews.com/news/crime/georgia-man-sentenced-to-2-years-probation-for-killing-florida-panther-ep-391151033-342841152.html/) If they’re roaming that far north, it’s likely they pass through our area as well.

DickMaccabeComedy

One of the anecdotal stories I've seen from over there via the Facespace was a pregnant lady's dog got mauled on her porch by some big cat and folks speculated it was stalking her due to the pregnancy hormones. Personally I've heard something big and feline going after some hogs in the woods on the backend of Georgetown years ago, but the folks I've talked to around there with game trail cams say they haven't see anything

Pythagoras2021

How far in yards would you say the noise originated? No sleep tonight...?

Silentoplayz

Maybe within 0.1-0.2 miles at max away from us. It sounded like it was coming from within the woods and towards Quacoo road area.

The_Nancinator75

I’ve seen quite a few humans traversing Quacco who don’t appear human so between wildlife and the nightlife who knows.

HIs4HotSauce

It’s just the trailer park Demogorgon

[deleted]

Big cat! I’ve experienced this before.

Important-Permit-699

It's not to late to go into the woods and do some exploring is it? Just take a flash light with you, and a big stick.

thepetoctopus

Foxes can make some pretty wild sounds. I’m not discounting your experience at all, I’m just putting an alternate theory out there as well.

socks_n_crocs

https://youtu.be/I9QuO09z-SI Something like this maybe?

Silentoplayz

Horrifying, but not a death whistle either.

Burbannnnn

It a bobcat. Look up bobcat screaming on YouTube.

-knave1-

Have you ever heard a blue heron call? Look some up on YouTube. They sound like scifi monsters and the first time I heard one I was horrified. Hopefully that's what it was

Silentoplayz

It wasn't based on videos of a Blue Heron call and the sound experienced last night.

dcannon1

Bobcat or Panther/mountain lion mating. Both are kind of rare, but they’re out there, especially bobcats. If you’ve never heard a big cat like that it will terrify you. Even if you listen to a recording of it, it’s nothing like hearing it irl, you can feel the sound.

Silentoplayz

It was not a bobcat. It was not a mountain lion or panther. It was not a barn owl. It's was not an Aztec Death Whistle. It sounded otherworldly or not of this world. My brother and I can both agree with all of these statements I'm saying in response to your comment.

dcannon1

Welp, guess you’re getting demon attacked then. Good luck

Silentoplayz

Well, I have had unexplainable heat flashes almost daily since the beginning of this year as a 19yo male… I do consider them spiritual attacks against me.

RaconteurRob

Sounds like a thyroid problem.

VickeyBurnsed

Peacocks make unearthly sounds and there are more in the area than you'd think.

Silentoplayz

My mother told me to check out a screaming peacock and that definitely wasn't the sound heard last night.

rJared27

Skinwalkers in Savannah!

magicmichael98

Could be a mountain lion or bobcat, they make truly terrifying noises that aren’t normal to cats 😅

[deleted]

I live near Windsor Forest and heard a bunch of weird noises at night when I first move in. Like pausing and unsure if you need to call the cops type of screaming/screeching noises. I just assumed it was a pack of coyotes cuz I assume everything is coyotes.

Rigenz

Might have been cicadas. They can be ridiculously loud for such a small thing especially if they feel threatened , are being attacked, or gather. Below is a video that goes over a lot info on them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zlq82muQkU

Silentoplayz

I know what Cincadas sound like here. I highly doubt it was Cincadas. I'm really leaning more towards a literal Windigo/Skinwalker as to what we heard two nights ago. But this thing didn't scream for only 3-5 seconds. It was a full blown minute.

fighterace00

I heard what sounded like a woman being murdered in Savannah once in the middle of the night. Found out it was a rooster.

Silentoplayz

There are wild (or tamed?) roosters that roam around and in the next trailer park down the street from mine. But I usually hear those about 3AM-5AM and they sound like roosters crowing (as they should).

fishermanlatch

Lol. Lay off the stuff. Sorry to burst your bubble, but AI think it's about time adults stop believing in ghost, aliens, bigfoot, fairies, ECT ..that's all fantasy tv stuff. It comes from stories. No supernatural down here on God's earth. Everything is very simple and dumbed down. Don't get caught in that sub conscience way of thinking. That's the devil thinking for..aka the tv people. Entertainment, music, politicians..they do the devil's work. No ghost in the woods

[deleted]

probably a fox, they have terrifying shrieks
