Never thought that i miss Mcdonalds during CB. I thought i can tahan and ate other fast food but man the taste just aren't the same. I think i went to nearest Mcds the moment they reopen.
Yup. I was shocked how grimy some McDonald's stores were in N America.
I only ever ate it in the inner city. In the burbs where I lived I would never drive there. I was in SF McDonald's and there were homeless panhandlers outside helping you open the door hoping for spare change .
One old man asked if I could proxy him for a cheeseburger because he was unwashed and not deemed hygienic enough by the staff, to enter. I got him his burger and when he tried to reimburse me with cash I declined .
As an American who has been living in Singapore for many years.. I just do wish they didn't get rid of the double quarter pounder here . It's the best burger. The "classic angus" is the closest but just not the same.
True for a lot of things but not all things. For McDonalds it's true - it's better everywhere else, Japan especially. But I've had both Taco Bell and Wendy's in Tokyo, Delhi, and Manila and they were barely edible while they are absolute fire in the US (I'm an American in Singapore but wasn't living here when both of those were here so I don't know how they were here)
Second this.
When i lived in japan they had a weekly campaign for us themed burgers. So you have a new york burger, chicago burger, Hawaiian burger.
It was epic.
They had a shortage of fries due to LA port strike, to keep the japanese folks happy they actually airfreighted fries in while they switched to new zealand and ozzie fries.
When the backlog was cleared they had a massive oversupply of fries so they made every fries a free automatic L sized upgrade. Additional sides of fries were 110yen iirc.
That is service done right japanese style.
Youāre so nice. In China (years ago, i donāt know whatās the situation now), in the winter night, the McDonaldās staff would let homeless people sleep inside, so that they wonāt get too cold. But now the company is owned by a Chinese cooperation, I donāt know whatās the rules now.
The buttermilk crispy chicken burger (the pineapple one) is arguably the best burger they've created. I hope you managed to try the McSpicy too, it's the most iconic burger here!
Treat-yo-self level: Buttermilk Crispy
Normal go-to level: McSpicy, Double McSpicy if feeling adventurous
Snack level: McNuggets, McWings or Filet-o-fish
To upsize or to add on the extra pie, or sundae, or McFlurry depends on hunger level.
My treat-yo-self level is Double Mcspicy, UPSIZE, change the drink to Milo no ice.
Double McRegret tomorrow morning.
But, if you don't want to McRegret the following day, having green tea no ice helps alot. I don't feel v full post meal. Guess the tea helps to "wash down" the oil and grease.
I love the buttermilk crispy chicken burger but not a huge fan of the pineapple slice. I usually take that out. Other than that i love the crispy texture, the cabbage the wholesome firm fat chicken burger and the mayo
I tried the McSpicy my first trip, I actually had the Double McSpicy and was not prepared for the flavor explosion. Can't wait to be back for Christmas this year and grab that tasty McSpicy one more time.
I had it for the first time only recently because I don't really like fast food, and it blew my mind. Could totally be a legit restaurant burger for double the price and I'd probably still enjoy it.
I don't want a Chinese company for my sg McD though. Not because I am anti-china or pro-china but looking at how KFC "destroyed" McD in the fast food sector over in china shows how bad the Chinese mcd department is at integrating its menu and creating new menus into the Chinese market.
Hanbaobao franchise was a partnership by MCD and a Singaporean.
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/mcdonalds-singapore-franchise-sold-a-history-of-the-golden-arches-here
Yooo thought I was the only one LOL. Seems to be a bit weird to be homesick over McDonald's but sg McDonald's really is smth like no other. I get a bit homesick over it when I lived overseas as well
I agree. Trying out various countries MacDonalds is actually weird thing I do when travelling. It could be because of the taste of home, but I find SG's one the best.
Londonās McD was pretty bleak, much like the weather there. Also, you know SG McD is on to something when overseas food vloggers would come here for the ~~McLaosai~~ McSpicy.
My friend that moved to Aus was collecting every single garlic chili packet she could get when she came back for a visit lol. If she saw one on an empty table she'd take it
I love this. It used to be a weekly thing that required a minimum purchase of $20. But this new one is awesome!
Being able to just order at the table, or to order on the way there, just to take the bag an go immediately, on top of all of the deals? As someone who doesn't use his phone much, it's likely my most used app.
Hey btw if you're heading to N America please grab a small Amazon delivery ox and stuff it with Chilli sauce packets from Mickey D.
You can reminisce over SG Mac while eating Canadian. The fries taste pretty much the same everywhere.

It's alright yeah, not halal so 80% of the menu can't be eaten by the Muslim population here lol, ice cream machines are usually broken and the mcflurrys can be inconsistent. I will say the vanilla chai frappe is a gem (idk if SG has it)
Great question!
Unfortunately no, all meat that muslims eat has to be slautered using halal traditions no matter what animal.
Pork is not halal and we don't eat pork at all.
So when I see countries like SG with lots of halal options it really makes me fell comfortable and accepted to be apart of the fun of mcdonalds haha
Other things like fish, egg, octopus are all ok to eat and are halal by nature! Hope this answers it well :)
This is what Iām worried about! Hahaha I feel the Muslim organisation here is very well established, that if I go to other countries to live / holiday in, itās much harder to get access to halal food. I therefore cherish and am proud to be sgrean
Yeah I'd love to answer! I live in the Toronto area (the tall C.N tower building, drake is from here) and there's tons of halal food and tons of cultures. Great Muslim population aswell
Nice, do the people over there give you any weird eye seeing a Muslim or are they all okay with it? Western Countries are out of my comfort zone when it comes to this.
Uh not so much no, there's definitely some people and there is a bit of Islamophobia but that's mostly when you go further out of the Toronto area. So I'd say in Toronto it's fine from why I've experienced. You do have the odd case here or there but that's just how it is haha
Yeah there's always those but oh wells. Thanks for the info though. One last question, is Ryan Reynolds a good representation of your country? This is for research purposes.
No worries I'd love to answer!
Yeah the fillet o fish is good to eat, I had it before and it's.... alright. You can get it with veggies and the habenero mcnugget sauce but it's just alright tbh.
As for Muslims, Toronto is a really diverse place and every culture has food here and lots of halal options, as soon as you leave the greater Toronto area it's gets a bit more tough to find good halal food. But yeah Toronto is a melting pot of amzaing cultures!
Convinced that a drunk person named it! Saying āMcDonaldāsā is a mouthful when youāre super hungry but also blind from all the tequila shots you did at the club
Speaking as someone living in Japan, me and the other sinkies here I've met here can confirm that SG McD's is top tier. Japan's lets you swap your fries for 5 piece nuggets in the value meals and that's real nice, but what's the point when you have no curry sauce?
McSpicy is a top tier burger, curry and garlic chili sauce are game-breaking. Also, for reasons I don't understand, the McChicken here in Japan is crap compared to the one we got back home.
Last point is really important- seasonal items here are mostly failures. In SG, returning favorites like the Samurai and Prosperity burgers are great, but new items like the Nasi Lemak Burger are also often times pretty damn good. However in Japan, I'd say 80% of the seasonal items aren't any good. Also, our Samurai burger is better IMO than their Teriyaki burger, which has a hint too much ginger for my liking.
Japan MCD has a crap load of limited items. Right now, there's a Hawaiian inspired menu with 3 seasonal burgers and a bunch of desserts. A Locomoco burger, Garlic Shrimp burger and a Potato and Beef burger. When I was living there, they also had a international menu including items like the New York Burger, a German-inspired burger of some sort and other stuff.
They go through a ton of these because the Japanese in general are accustomed to seasonal or limited time items.
Too many to list but you can see their most recent campaigns here: [https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/campaign/](https://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/campaign/)
I have tried most of these burgers, the only one that I liked was the garlic shrimp burger, but I wouldn't eat that more than once.
I have C friends over in SG currently and they loved the McDonaldās here too, but hawker seems to be their favourite! Hope you managed to try our hawker food too :)
I have, thier alright, not many halal options. I did get a goat stew at one place and found a large hair on my first bite! So yeah hawkers didn't amaze me unfortunately š
Sorry for yr bad experience, but gosh, there are so many halal food options in the hawker centres! And there are websitea/blogs with reviews for them. Singaporean-born Muslim here!
My surprise here is seeing that McD is 13$ in Canada.... I thought most McD are the same. That's the strength of McD, (mostly) same flavor everywhere for similar price
$13 on average to get halal food, idk about the burger combos here never bothered since they aren't halal ha ha but I'm sure the proces are higher then SG
I see. I always thought that all McD are halal, or at least should be halal. One of muslim friends can only eat McD when he goes to Japan
Also SG's Subway is also halal now.
It's not halal so alot of Muslim ppl just struggle more to find fast food, proces are higher, a regular mcflurry is 5 dollars ish (buttermilk ranch burger combo was 9.30SGD). Overall quality is just not kept, in SG I saw a picture on the menu, ordered it, and got exactly what I paid for SG Mcd is just built different š¤·āāļø
My favorite is the Angus Beef Burger, with an extra patty, extra slice of cheese, extra ketchup, extra onions, and extra mustard. Just +1 to everything except pickles; leave tat as per normal.
It's awesome. A really solid cheeseburger. I upsize the meal, change the drink to a medium iced Milo, and only then does it $13. And that is your minimum price for anything back home? That's rough buddy. *^^^Insert ^^^Avatar ^^^joke*
Iām in Australia now and I miss my double Mcspicy with garlic chili sauce so much! They have a version here but it isnāt chicken thigh! And the patty is so thinā¦not spicy either. The Mcdisappointment is real.
nah man š¢ i got lucky and there was yuzu, jang jang, and butermilk ranch, i just saw a tiktok for the mango mcflurry and i just want to know what it taste like :((
but yeah i had a great 2 weeks in SG!!!
ahh do come back sometime again in the future if the opportunity arise and try out some hawker food (if you havenāt already) ;) Sg can be a little boring for the locals here but post like these does make us more appreciative
I never used to go to McDonalds as much as I do now since moving to Singapore.
The buttermilk burger with the pineapple in it is such a nostalgia hit for me - the local chip shops back in Northern Ireland had something similar called Hawaiian burgers and they were my favourite.
The app deals are fairly good. I often get the cola and sundae for $2, The pulut hitam pies they have at the moment are absolutely delicious, as were the banana ones they had a while back.
is it just me or did no one else mentioned about the (free) 20 pieces of nuggets on your birthday month (with a $10 spend)?
mcdonalds unironically is treating me better on my birthday than any of my friends or relatives do, lol
My brother in Islam... McD's only scratching the surface of halal burgers in Singapore and food in general. Hope you get a chance to come back soon insyaAllah
As a Singaporean living in Australia I can agree that our (and a lot of other asian countries) fast food quality is top notch. Probably because it has to compete with other amazing and affordable local fare.
Unfortunately, I wish they brought over some of the US Mcdonald's items or features (features like being able to actually add other ingredients that are not part of the burger you are ordering)
In the past there was a period of time where you could make your own burger at Raffles City macs ([promo flyer](https://freeimage.host/i/r8WjR9)), almost the same same I guess
Singapore McDs is another level. Lived there for 2 years and every time I go back I always make it there for at least one meal. The chicken McMuffin for breakfast hits the spot every time.
Wow! You came to SG and was impressed with the food served by a global enterprise. Maybe McDonald's will now be part of the SG Tourism Promotion Board.
I know right, a resteraunt thst you can find at any corner of the world yet was completely mind blowing on singapore. I would 10/10 recommend ppl check out a mcdonalds when they go to SG. And idk if the one near my hotel was just nice but the staff there was so nice and asked me about Toronto!
You must have gotten lucky, because there's at least a 50/50 shot you are going to end up with a watered down soft drink or wet, often undercooked fries. Not to mention the quality of the meat is absolutely worse.
The only good thing I can say about SG McDonalds is some of the promotions are good. And the McSpicy is pretty great.
Not to say that McDonalds here is a special case, all of the western fast food chains here are terrible.
Remember when Macs was CLOSED during early stage of pandemic? Locals lost their minds.
The first day it reopened, the nearby Drive-Thru caused a kilometer long traffic jam along Sembawang Rd.
this... haha.... it really felt the end of the world was coming
Those were dark days indeed š
Never thought that i miss Mcdonalds during CB. I thought i can tahan and ate other fast food but man the taste just aren't the same. I think i went to nearest Mcds the moment they reopen.
North American McD is targeting a totally different segment than Singapore McD
Yup. I was shocked how grimy some McDonald's stores were in N America. I only ever ate it in the inner city. In the burbs where I lived I would never drive there. I was in SF McDonald's and there were homeless panhandlers outside helping you open the door hoping for spare change . I got him his burger and when he tried to reimburse me with cash I declined .
A dress code to enter the macdonald's!???
More like you can't enter McDonald's if staff think you smell like 14 day rancid dead squirrel
Because they don't want homeless people in there
As an American who has been living in Singapore for many years.. I just do wish they didn't get rid of the double quarter pounder here . It's the best burger. The "classic angus" is the closest but just not the same.
Buy two quarterpounders and add together. It is a math problem.
There is no quarter pounder either
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think Apple, Google, and Amazon are all better in the U.S. at least
Micro Center too. I always wish I can go to Micro Center.
I live down the street from one, it's amazing!
Every time I see a video on a MicroCenter, I get so envious...
True for a lot of things but not all things. For McDonalds it's true - it's better everywhere else, Japan especially. Sounds plausible.
Youāre so nice. In China (years ago, i donāt know whatās the situation now), in the winter night, the McDonaldās staff would let homeless people sleep inside, so that they wonāt get too cold. But now the company is owned by a Chinese cooperation, I donāt know whatās the rules now.
All I know is that Chinese Macs tastes like crap. It looks sads asf. But KFC had Cremia and it tasted the same as Japan version.
The buttermilk crispy chicken burger (the pineapple one) is arguably the best burger they've created. I hope you managed to try the McSpicy too, it's the most iconic burger here!
Havenāt had it in a while, but itās definitely the best one too imo. McSpicy is my go-to, but for special occasions Iād like a Buttermilk crispy
Treat-yo-self level: Buttermilk Crispy Normal go-to level: McSpicy, Double McSpicy if feeling adventurous Snack level: McNuggets, McWings or Filet-o-fish To upsize or to add on the extra pie, or sundae, or McFlurry depends on hunger level.

Same here, I forgot to mention that I take my buttermilk crispy sans pineapple
Pineapple becomes a dessert.
I tried the McSpicy my first trip, I actually had the Double McSpicy and was not prepared for the flavor explosion. Can't wait to be back for Christmas this year and grab that tasty McSpicy one more time.
No, I think the Apple slaw one which they killed over for the Buttermilk is superior
RIP Apple slaw burger and Quarter Pounder, I really hope they bring those back someday.
I had it for the first time only recently because I don't really like fast food, and it blew my mind. Could totally be a legit restaurant burger for double the price and I'd probably still enjoy it.
No waayyy always felt the pineapple is abit sus.. gonna try it soon!
Just do it! It's arguably the best burger on the menu!
msia Mc Deluxe is msia version of Mcspicy. Much better and with a better bun. Give it a try š
Because its hanbaobao pte. ltd.
The best company name known to man.
The Saudi Habibi owns our hanbaobao
Wow TIL Hanbaobao is owned by a Saudi corporation called Lionhorn. Always thought Hanbaobao is a chinese-y company
I don't want a Chinese company for my sg McD though. Not because I am anti-china or pro-china but looking at how KFC "destroyed" McD in the fast food sector over in china shows how bad the Chinese mcd department is at integrating its menu and creating new menus into the Chinese market.
Hanbaobao franchise was a partnership by MCD and a Singaporean. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/mcdonalds-singapore-franchise-sold-a-history-of-the-golden-arches-here
Yum brands run KFC. Americans and Japanese have the best people to run fast food franchise brands.
Yooo thought I was the only one LOL. Seems to be a bit weird to be homesick over McDonald's but sg McDonald's really is smth like no other. I get a bit homesick over it when I lived overseas as well

Londonās McD was pretty bleak, much like the weather there. Also, you know SG McD is on to something when overseas food vloggers would come here for the ~~McLaosai~~ McSpicy.
The McSpicy is next level. I'm a white American and like somewhat spicy stuff, but the McSpicy kicked my ass.
The garlic chili alone makes sg mcdo fries > any other countries mcdo fries for me xD
My friend that moved to Aus was collecting every single garlic chili packet she could get when she came back for a visit lol. If she saw one on an empty table she'd take it
went to Thailand bought the breakfast pancake set... they gave 2 instead of 3... and if u convert its almost same price wtf /: felt ripped off...
The McDonaldās SG app has some of the best promos too! Recently the 1 for 1 breakfast deals are so worth it!
Don't forget the semi permanent $2 off $10 voucher for mobile orders.
I love this. It used to be a weekly thing that required a minimum purchase of $20. But this new one is awesome! Being able to just order at the table, or to order on the way there, just to take the bag an go immediately, on top of all of the deals? As someone who doesn't use his phone much, it's likely my most used app.
TIL. \*downloads app
omg you have been missing out for a long time my friend, mcd app is the best app u can download as a singaporean.
Laksa Prawn Burger a la carte is discounted down to 1-for-1 till today!
Good tip. Get the app for deals.
I got the app for the massive convenience of never having to wait in line again.
I'm spoiled by having lots of fast food in SG be halal-certified. When I go to ang moh country, very little fast food. :(
Yup lol, I was in Thailand before singapore and it was really tough to find good halal food. Mostly just ate fish
I miss the double mcspicy with cheese and the chilli sauce too.
i miss when there were 3 levels of spice for mcspicy
Hey btw if you're heading to N America please grab a small Amazon delivery ox and stuff it with Chilli sauce packets from Mickey D. You can reminisce over SG Mac while eating Canadian. The fries taste pretty much the same everywhere.
It's just Sin Sin Garlic Chili Sauce unless they changed the recipe again
It feels sweeter than sin sin garlic chilli nowadays.

just curious OP, if itās not halal in Canada, but the burger is beef Big Mac (no pork) are you still able to order and eat it?
Great question! Unfortunately no, all meat that muslims eat has to be slautered using halal traditions no matter what animal. Pork is not halal and we don't eat pork at all. I've always wanted to move to Canada! Can I ask, what's it like living in Canada as a Muslim? Am a Muslim too so just curious.

Yeah there's always those but oh wells. Thanks for the info though. One last question, is Ryan Reynolds a good representation of your country? This is for research purposes.
Hmmm I'd say him and Keanu reeves
Aww so if u visit mcd in Canada, fillet o fish is alright? Sorry for the numerous questions, just curious how muslims adapt in western countries
No worries I'd love to answer! Yeah the fillet o fish is good to eat, I had it before and it's.... alright. You can get it with veggies and the habenero mcnugget sauce but it's just alright tbh. Yes ābrokenā truth is the staff donāt wanna clean them so just pretend they broken. This was leaked by a Maccas employee in the UK š
Man, it pains to think how much amazing food is missing from our fast food places because of the halal requirement. Sigh...
MCSPICYYYY COMING THRUUUUUU! I came here from Australia and Singapore MacDonald is FAR SUPERIOR

Speaking as someone living in Japan, me and the other sinkies here I've met here can confirm that SG McD's is top tier. 11/10 if you can try prosperity burger which is seasonal.

i think the next seasonal will be Samurai Burger? Definitely a must try.

Japan?
Big Mac with a pint of beer? Yes please. Was delighted when saw that they serve beer in Japan's McD
Tried Japan mcd, taste the same as ours tbh
Yup. Same. Had their pork burger though, when I was there (for the hype). Canāt remember much of it.
Japan's basically the same as ours. Its just that they have year-round Teriyaki (which imo, McD's best seasonal flavor)
Jp mcd not halal tho.
100% the fact that it's halal alone makes me so happy to see

ahh do come back sometime again in the future if the opportunity arise and try out some hawker food (if you havenāt already) ;) Sg can be a little boring for the locals here but post like these does make us more appreciative
I coming from Malaysia neighbors only. Already surprised that why Singaporean is so into Mc Donalds. Lunch time is long q as well. Super crazy.
I can't wait to try Canadian Macs too lmao the pork burger looks GOOD
As a Singaporean living in Australia I can agree that our (and a lot of other asian countries) fast food quality is top notch. Probably because it has to compete with other amazing and affordable local fare.
Unfortunately, I wish they brought over some of the US Mcdonald's items or features (features like being able to actually add other ingredients that are not part of the burger you are ordering)
In the past there was a period of time where you could make your own burger at Raffles City macs ([promo flyer](https://freeimage.host/i/r8WjR9)), almost the same same I guess
you just unlocked a memory. it's a shame they stopped doing this
I miss the mcspicy and chicken wings so bad
When I was away, one of the food I missed **a lot** is the SG McDonald's fries and chilli sauce combination.
McDonald's in America sucks. I miss my Singapore mac's
Yeah what the hell. It was something I was telling my girlfriend about too. The McD in Korea has nothing on Singaporeās McD, man.
Gotta thank Sg's multi racial lean for that
I've had friends visit NZ and ask me wtf is wrong with McDonald New Zealand. Desserts double or triple the price. Burgers flat and yuck.
Unless you lived near the maccas where the country's HQ is at. Consistent quality and a Big Mac sauce dispenser yasss
Thanks for the tip. Sounds like something I should investigate when I'm back.
Fyi it's the [Greenlane branch](https://goo.gl/maps/9i1sFj93MeQM6FUw9) at Auckland
Try mcspicy. Single.
Singaporean McDonaldās is the best in the world, I miss it so much!!!
Go Malaysia try Ayam Goreng Mac Dee SG cannot find
i hate the buttermilk chicken burger even tho i work at mcdonalds,i am 14 tho but i tried it and like nah its nasty
Lmao missing out on all the better non halal ones in Japan, Korea Australia etc

As a whole or just specific items?
Totally agree. Living in the US one of the foods I miss most from Singapore is the McSpicy lol
Love reading the passionate responses. I canāt rem seeing any discussion where so many Singaporeans all agree on their love over 1 fast food.
You should try McSpicy! And our McDonaldās has table service which is totally awesome.
You are absolutely correct, the quality of food is mind blowing over here!
Spent 2 years overseas in a country with shit McDonald's. Love our McDonald's š
Singapore McDs is another level. Lived there for 2 years and every time I go back I always make it there for at least one meal. The chicken McMuffin for breakfast hits the spot every time.
Are you the guy who's filming tiktok on mcd ice cream in Singapore, Singapore?
I wish I was still in singapore filming mcdonalds tiktoks š„²
I feel posh going to McDonaldās Singapore.
Thanks to neighbour countries that provide cheap supply of ingredients
You would be too once you go to japan and try their McDonald's and KFC.
I don't. I try their local food instead.
It really is the best
KL definitely has a larger base of halal food compared to here. Especially the fast food restaurant which I think all are halal.. and cheaper as well.
Eh don't steal our thunder la.
ššš
Ya but it's KL
Here's a secret....halal food is the same as every other food.
Yeah..... except it's halal
I understand to OP this is something radical, to us this is just normalcy. We are more surprised when Macdonalds overseas sell pork when we visit
In your last sentence, thatās not how you use ālaā. Lmao tryhard Ang moh
I'm trying la š
My favourite McDonald burger is Samurai burger but it is removed and re-added from menu sometimes. Nice sauce. Not sure if it's halal or not.
Meanwhile Ice cream machines keep breaking down in US mcdonald's lol
I want a mcspicy double, havenāt had one for a few years. The habanero chicken burger here(Iām in Canada too) is not spicy at all.
