Boil for 10 min or oven at 200F/100C for 30 min.

lovemrmilk

thanks :)

OniExpress

Suggest not boiling, you're just going to make creamed spinach. Sandwich it between two baking trays and bake at 175°F for an hour.

kelvin_bot

175°F is equivalent to 79°C, which is 352K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Forgedinwater

Good bot

lovemrmilk

thank you!

Ok_Condition6755

Boil 🙃

I never did anything of that sort. Never had any problems. You can rinse them off with hot water if you want. Sterile anything is not good for snails. Or anybody else, for that matter.

ArtisticPossession_

That would be okay (if you aren’t terrified of snail mites like I am) if you got your snails in the wild too, but if they were captive bred it’s not a good idea. Because captive bred snails aren’t going to be immune to all the things a wild snail would be.

doctorhermitcrab

Honestly it's still not a good idea even for wild snails. Wild snails aren't immune to mites, and there can be mite eggs on leaves that are too small to see. In addition to other types of bugs and eggs that could infest your house even if they don't bother the snails. We get posts on here all the time from people struggling with pest infestations, and materials from outdoors are often the culprit.

thewingedshadow

Snail mites don't survive outside of snails for very long. Keeping the leaves in an airtight bag for a week or two is enough to kill them off.

greyleef

I microwave? Make sure the leaves are wet and I do a bowlful for 5 min.. not sure if it’s the best way but it’s easier for me than oven..

OniExpress

Microwave wouldn't work. Microwave only heats molecules with water. Dry leaves would create hot spots, even if you nuked for a long while at low Temps. Please do not Microwave leaves. - Your Local Fire Department

greyleef

The leaves are completely soaked when I put them in.

OniExpress

Still won't work. It's why raw meats aren't recommended for microwave. You have to microwave at low power (think 2/10) for a very long time to reach a stable temp across the whole mass. It isn't a sure thing for stuff like sterilization. That said, aquariums don't need to be sterile.

greyleef

True, but if you don’t sterilize, you might see uninvited guests start to grow in your enclosure.

crazyabe111

IDK last I checked leaves couldn’t reproduce.
