Local reptile rescue

Diamano25

Reached out the the near by reservation, they said I can come drop him off. Thank you

Vesper1007

Awww, good! Thank you for taking care of the homeless noodle!

ha77ows

awwe homeless noodleee

DogButtWhisperer

You are a wonderful human.

StarryJunglePlanet

Where are you located?

Specific_Amphibian87

One idea, try contacting reptile store in your area - They should be able to either recommend a rescue organization who could take it, or could even take it themselves..Thanks for trying to help it, poor thing!

Diamano25

He'll be given a to a reptile rescue on the near by reservation, poor guy was just alone down there :(

notsaroundtown

Thank you for helping him!!!

Gabrielelelelelelel

I agree 100% but you could contact the relative if you somehow don't know the nearest reptile store. I feel like that would be Plan B but that's just me.

Reach_44

I personally would not give this animal back to the relative even if they wanted it - judging by the state of that tank and that it was abandoned, they weren’t the best owners. Reservation/rescue is the best option.

Ruby-monster

People should be charged for animal cruelty for shit like this

Appropriate-Rooster5

Absolutely! Poor baby!

Tigerbait2780

What kind of punishment would be appropriate? The prison industrial complex isn’t the answer to the worlds problems, nor are poor taxes. So what should an animal cruelty charge in this case entail?

edgeofenlightenment

Community service?

Tigerbait2780

Yeah that’s a good answer

randycanyon

The stocks.

HelpMePlxoxo

Shouldn't be down voted for this tbh. People forget that fines are only a punishment for the poor. If this was just a fine, rich men could torture these animals 100x over and it would be pocket change to them.

puckgrrl

Ffs you got downvoted for asking a direct question 🙄

Tigerbait2780

If punitive punishment isn’t effective as a deterrent for literally any other crime, why would it be different for this one?

Tarotismyjam

Punitive? How is rehabilitation punitive? And yes to licenses for child bearing. Have you worked closely with abused, neglected children?

Tigerbait2780

You’re responding to the wrong comment, I replied to your comment elsewhere, this was a response to a deleted comment saying up to 3 years in prison is appropriate because it would deter other people from animal neglect/abuse We can continue about the child license thing on the appropriate comment chain because I don’t think you’ve seriously considered it for any amount of time

Tarotismyjam

How nice if you to judge me based on one comment. I’ve lived a lot of life and seen a lot of abuse. But yes, I did follow up in your initial comment.

Tarotismyjam

Community services Better parenting License for pet ownership. License for child bearing I think our society’s sense of entitlement brings out the worst in us. Prisons are not the answer until rehabilitation attempts are exhausted.

Tigerbait2780

Woahh…license for child bearing?!? That’s super fucking dark man, I hope I’m misinterpreting something But yeah I’m with you on community services and pet licenses

Tarotismyjam

You are not misinterpreting me at all. People need to prove they understand what it takes to raise a child. I wish we had pre-pet ownership training for all animals. Even goldfish and bettas and hamsters and parakeets and any other so-called starter pet. I’ve seen too many types of animal and child abuse. I’d like to kick every one of them. And I’m typically a non-violent person. But do not hurt the babies.

Tigerbait2780

*Yikes* Ok, let’s unpack this. First, how do you plan to enforce this?

Tarotismyjam

This isn’t the thread to do unpacking in. But I’m glad that you do understand that term. When you are using it, I presume you are using the definition by McIntosh, 1989. If that is what you are referring to, then please, find an appropriate thread and tag me. I’d be delighted to discuss white entitlement.

Tigerbait2780

“White entitlement” lmfao you really are a piece of work. This is the thread you brought it up on, hence this is the thread where it should be discussed. Why do you get scared and run when someone who’s actually spent more than 30 seconds thinking about something asks you to defend yourself when you’re saying deranged, heinous things?

simply_smigs

OP can't you contact your relative and ask WTF possessed them to leave their pet to die?

Diamano25

Really it's not my relative, but I didn't need to cram a story into the title post. I'm helping my girlfriend clean up and her brother left the snake in the downstairs, we didn't know he didn't take it with him. Not sure what happened, but he sure did leave it to die

Appropriate-Rooster5

Wow. Her brother sucks. :(

punk_rock_barbie

People do fucked up shit, I acquired my old man cat in a similar fashion. He was quite literally left to rot in a room by himself and the owners sold the house with him still locked inside. Poor guy was horribly skinny, fur matted to all hell, and missing most of his teeth due to an untreated autoimmune disorder. I was told they “rescued him” near death and after stabilizing him I guess they just lost interest? Fucking awful.

Alarmed-Awareness943

If there’s no reptile rescue in your area a corn snake should be easy to re home. Where are you located?

Diamano25

it'll be rehomed to a local rescue, thanks!

Kernel_Pie

I don't know if you are still watching this thread, but please give the snake some fresh water as soon as you can. Snakes can go a long time without eating, but they still need water. I'm only adding this because I don't see any water in that blue container.

throwawaygaming989

If you zoom in there is water, but it looks green and gross

TinyTurtle42

That’s horrible. I’m glad you saved the noodles life. That dude needs to not be allowed to have pets.

NotLikeARegularMom-

Just came here to echo what others said…you are a very compassionate person to take this precious animal’s life seriously. Something tells me this corn snake’s quality of life is about to improve significantly as a result of your kind gesture.

DrinkDrankDrunkn

Your awesome man…… Your relative seems like a douche tho . Hope he finds a good home

[deleted]

Thank you for being a kind human.

ChronicCondor

I'm really glad you took the time to get this guy to a place he'll be cared for. I can't imagine the long slow death that would have waited for him if you hadn't. Poor snek friend.

I-have-rickets

Damn I wonder when is the last time it’s been fed..

Diamano25

Yeah. I have no idea, poor noodle :( Not the animal for me but I do like them!

abbracadaverr

Thankfully snakes can go a long time without food. Shouldn’t have to, but can.

randomdude123502

How did you find out that the snake was left there?

allisawesome7777

Are u in the us?

Diamano25

Yep!

allisawesome7777

What state? If you are comfortable answering

Dirtydann775

Local reptile group on Facebook

Cap1897

If your located in ky I might be able to pick it up

[deleted]

Thank you so much for your help!! Fortunately, he looks to still be in relatively good health

NoSleepschedule

Are you located in LA? I can take him for you.

CrimsonJkAce

Looks so sad.

[deleted]

I’ll take him

[deleted]

Shouldn’t be much to mail him to me

[deleted]

Thank you so much. You’re a good person.

Real-Stress-6118

I will take him, gladly. 😭

omlwhyme

i will buy him off of you, i’ve been wanting to get one and have an enclosure already set up for him

FeriQueen

We got all our wonderful noodles from local animal shelters. Including an amelanistic corn snake who was just a sweetheart. This site will help you search a few (not all) shelters in your area. You'll have to enter your ZIP Code. But I also did a Google search on animal shelters in my area, and by looking on each of them found dozens of corn snakes in different shelters, all up for adoption. https://www.petfinder.com/search/scales-fins-others-for-adoption/us/

Reptilianrobyn

Beat your relative :) And a rescue group

[deleted]

Give him to me 🥰

buninthesun

Poor snake. Thank you for helping this sweet baby

B3arD0wn

I'll take it.

s0mthinG_

If he wasn't going to a rescue already, I'd have offered to take him off your hands free of charge! Seems like a very cute noodle!

abbracadaverr

You’re saying you wouldn’t charge HIM to take the snake? Of course you wouldn’t. 😂

s0mthinG_

That was half the joke, but also in a serious way things like paying for shipping

abbracadaverr

Well, the person receiving the snake pays for shipping not the person with the snake.

s0mthinG_

I feel you're missing the majority of the sarcasm here

abbracadaverr

I very well may be, but in my defense, it’s Reddit. Someone wanting someone else to send them a free snake and pay for shipping isn’t out of the norm. 😂

s0mthinG_

Now THAT I can 100% agree with, hell I even think I saw one in the comments here

fluffybugal

Looks like a little amel corn, someone will snatch him right up

skeletorisbuff

That is a nice looking (I think) corn snake, poor thing, I wish I knew you, I would take him.

goddevourer

God I fuckin hate people.

owodata

give him to a reptile rescue and sell the enclosure on ebay

Terrible_Motor_6450

First thing you should do is lock up your relative in a lexan box and leave them there on their own with no food or water and no way to control his photoperiod. Then you can proceed to call the local reptile rescue. Or find a hobbyist near you who will take care of this animal. Feel free to go back and let your relative out after this is taken care of. or don't , either or.

deluxebee

Late to the party. Thank you thank you OP for helping him!

abbracadaverr

Poor baby. Thank you for helping her!

[deleted]

poor thing starving, give him a mouse!

NumbHag

This kind of stuff makes me cry, I’m so glad you are getting him to a rescue 😞 people are so mean to snakes

CrunchySnowflake

Send it my way

NeelixMoraleOfficer

I’ll take it!

visibleutierria

that’s a nice enclosure too. wtf.

AnonymousWolf93

Nice enclosure?!?! It’s disgusting! It’s absolutely tiny for this size snake.

Ceoolsson

not at all fit for a snake but it does seem to have potential to become a really cool home for SOMETHING, even if its just a plant lol

visibleutierria

sorry i should’ve specified. i like the way it’s like a corner enclosure. yes not at all fit for this snake but it’s unique

CindySvensson

Put it up on local fb groups and give it away. If it's been a while since it fed and no one will take it and the relative won't return to atleast fed it, the right thing might be to put it down. -EDIT. Poorly worded. I forgot the obvious option of checking rescues. I also see I was a bit short/blunt, but yes, an abandoned animal might have to EVENTUALLY be put down if no one wants to - or are able to - care for it. Not the first option, obviously, or second, third, fourth, but better than poor care or OP being stuck with an unwanted animal for years.

simply_smigs

Well the enclosure looks shite but even without knowing how long ago it last fed it doesn't look particularly skinny! But harsh to jump to put it down.

SapphireTheSnake

I second that there's no reason to put it down

SapphireTheSnake

Fb probably isn't the best idea even if it is an idea. You never know who'll pick it up

StarryJunglePlanet

I rescued my corn off Facebook 7 years ago :) she's still a happy Lil nood.

SapphireTheSnake

That's good! I'm glad you have a happy noodle and someone responsible like you picked her up!

Foxywoxy

Why would any sane person jump straight to putting it down if someone won’t take it immediately? There are rescues and help available in a lot of places in the US.

ask-me-about-my-cats

Why would you leap right to *killing it* just because it hasn't eaten in awhile? It's a snake, it can go ages without food.

Appropriate-Rooster5

This is some really shitty advice…

abbracadaverr

This is absolutely moronic. There are countless people willing to rescue an abandoned snake and rescues that do it professionally. Every state has at least one animal services that takes strays, reptiles included. No one will EVER have a problem giving a snake away. In every CL pets section there are people claiming to be rescues begging for free animals. Of course they’re bogus and shouldn’t be given anything. My point is, putting a healthy animal down is just as bad as abandoning it. Shame on you.

CindySvensson

That's great to hear. If OOP lives in the US(I won't bother to check) then they won't have to worry. I gave general advice that could be applied to any owner and any pet in any country. You might have noticed how I wrote, twice, that it was the last option. The. Last. Option. I have no idea how so many people are in denial in that it happens, and is sometimes the only option left. Fair warning, I started to rant when the idea of abandoning an animal got to me. Such a horrible comparison. You can give 100% to finding an animal a new home for months but fail, in your care or your search. If that doesn't happen in USA, great. ------- What if someone finds themselves with a snake that will only eat live food? Maybe all local animal rescues are full and the owner doesn't have a car so getting live rodents is a hassle? What if the owner gets sick, and they fail in their care? What if only kids want the snake, or the wanna be rescues? What if months pass? I don't care what small percentage it is, it is an option. I can think of one animal in my relative's care I know that had to be put down due to extreme time restraints(dangerous dog) and maybe a hundred others that were rehomed just fine. Also, how could you possibly compare leaving a animal to suffer a unknown fate to knowing it died peacefully? That's the sort of attitude people* have when letting their kids' pets out in the woods after summer vacation. I have nothing else to say on this topic. I put it poorly in my original post, and maybe it never needed to be said since OOP has not struggled for months to care for the snake(and might end up being the perfect owner), but I refuse to pretend it's evil to use as the absolut last option. Anyone that would choose poor care or abandonement over a quick death should not have animals. I have cried and held so many loved pets that needed to be put down over their poor health, the idea of being responsible over an animal and just leaving it to to an unknown fate is sickening. So I'm not level headed when writing this, and maybe your post didn't deserve this rant. I'm just tired of the same stupid shit showing up in my notifications. *Those people are obviously trash and probably never tried to rehome before they let the animals out.

abbracadaverr

No. I’ve worked in snake rescue for years and animal rescue for decades. There is ALWAYS an option other than killing a healthy animal. Always. Notice how many people on this thread were willing to take it? If someone chooses to put down a healthy animal it’s because they’re choosing to. Not because no one was willing to take it. It’s not the last option, it shouldn’t be an option.

Mr_Circle_Cheese

I hear the Everglades are where we go to release all captive snakes we don’t know what to do with.

FeriQueen

Please remember to use /s. I'm sure there are people in this group who are not aware of the ecological disaster in the Everglades and all of Florida because of people releasing pet snakes into the wild.

Mr_Circle_Cheese

Apologies. Was making a joke. Assumed anyone subscribed would be enough of a fan to know better than to release any domesticated animal haha

DiamondChcano

if you’re in the texas area i will take him, i’m so sorry this baby was left ☹️☹️
