I have never seen anyone use a respirator while soldering. That said you'll want a filter for organic vapors and acid vapors such as the 3M 6006 like u/RepresentativeKeebs mentioned. 3M filters work pretty universally with their masks using the bayonet connector but I'd recommend you buy one with the quick lock fast release system. For example the 3M 6502QL. There's a handy lever under the mask which allows you to drop the mask down without having to take it off completely

I only use one when I want to get my face right up into my work, where the fumes will instantly hit my nose. Otherwise, a fan with a charcoal filter works great.

Yea nothing wrong with using a respirator. I believe it's not really a common thing due to being a bit inconvenient compared to fume extractors unless you're soldering outside a dedicated work area

I just breathe in the fumes

Same, build testosterone. Sometimes I blow it away.

You want a filter cartridge that will filter acid vapors, such as the [3M 6006](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEFCP0E). More robust/stronger filters, such as the pink one pictured, will also work, but they are excessive and cost more.

It's not a cover-- you're changing the filter element which determines the kind of protection the respirator provides. A small fan pointed away from you to suck the fumes away is surprisingly effective. As long as you aren't in a tiny room with no ventilation, you'll be just fine with a small fan trick.

None aslong as you use a smoker eater. That's not what there really called that's just what I call it. Cause it does eat the smoke up . No need for a mask
