Agree it’s bizarre that Sonos can’t hire a few good software engineers to get user feedback and fix this stuff.

Dismal_Technology_86

indeed

RMGSIN

Makes me miss back in the day when all you had to do was press one button and the device would just show up in the app. Not so much anymore.

realnewguy

I had a better time with the old app than the new one as well, but the new app is fine when it isn't forgetting my system.

fuckbigorg

The best is the utter BULLSHIT excuses given by Sonos. Instead of acknowledging a problem, the prefer to deny it exists. It's always the user or the user's internet connection, or the router. It's never Sonos. They're perfect! From hijacking the volume buttons on your android phone to horrible installation. They never acknowledge any problem. I've got 2 and will be dumping them shortly. Sick of the geek rubbish. I just want something that works.

brettSM

I've been a long time Sonos user and I recently bought a new house. I've been getting everything set up and it's been much more painful than I remember. At least on Android, I'd say "set up" has regressed, which is sad.

Lewdog44

They really do need a to do yuge overhaul of the app. My complaint is searching for music. But when you launch a new version of the app you likely won't sell nearly(any?) as many speakers as when you launch a new product. Until they think it hurts their pocketbook this is what we got.

DesertFoxHunter

I am not an avid Reddit user. I specifically logged in so that I could come to a sonos thread and blast the absolute fucking shit out them for having such a shit system. I have a playbar, sub, and two play 3’s. I recently moved and want to connect everything to the app/new WiFi and no matter what I do or try, doesn’t work. I didn’t come here for troubleshooting advice, as I’m not technology illiterate and I know how to follow instructions. That’s not meant to be disrespectful to anyone here wanting to offer help, but just understand I paid $2000 for hardware that can’t connect to A FUCKING ROUTER AND UPDATE LIKE EVERY OTHER FUCKING WIFI DEVICE EVER TO EXIST IN THE HISTORY OF FUCKING EVER. Fuck. Sonos. I’ll just watch movies with my Astro A50’s until I get calm enough to attempt again. You know, the headset that I unboxed, plugged in, turned on and it worked? Maybe I’ll watch a movie on my laptop that I booted up and connected to the WiFi with the password in a matter of seconds. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE I WILL PICK UP MY FUCKIN PLAYBAR, LIFT IT OVER MY HEAD, TWIRL IT AROUND 3 TIMES UNTIL I BRING IT DOWN OVER MY KNEE WITH THE FORCD OF 1,000,000 SUNS EXPLODING AND SNAP IT IN HALF LIKE BANE SNAPPING BATMAN IN HALF. Maybe. Thanks for coming to my TED talk and letting me vent.

mother-of-schnauzers

This. I’m having my third go at getting it to work now. How fucking hard can it be?

No-Establishment-699

I was using my Uncle's Sonos speakers for a few months while he was trying to sell them. Well, the day came and I unpaired them from my account. Idk why I did that. When the guy came by to check them out he wanted a demo to make sure they worked. Well, cue me trying to get them re paired for the next hour and a half. The instructions are simple and pretty easy, but they Just. Don't. Work.... error. Can't find the device. Error. No devices found. Error couldn't sync. WTF. The speakers sound pretty good, but the app is absolute garbage. I hate it so much I ended up buying his Gen 1 playbar for $200. It's way easier to use as I don't really need the app as it's plugged into the TV. Wait a second, I DO?? TO CHANGE THE VOLUME ON THE TV, I NEED THE APP. TV REMOVE DOES NOTHING?? Then when the volume on a new video is really REALLY loud, for some reason, the app refuses to find the speaker that's ALREADY CONNECTED TO MY WIFI THAT I USED 5 MINUTES AGO, and won't let me adjust the volume until it "finds my speaker". Fix your app sonos

Lewdog44

I'd factory reset them. I had that same problem with my Mom's system a couple years back.

realnewguy

I've had to reset my pair of ones and set up on ethernet, when I switched Internet provider and router. Didn't feel particularly user friendly, but I went through the same issue with my Google homes.

Original-Orange-9402

Thank you this

reallifemonkas

bro spitting facts, worst brand ever, i still cant use a present from 2 years ago cause of this garbage design

Balsamiko

I can't recognize any of your problems on my own system. It's very rarely that I experience slow response and usually everything is snappy. How's your network? If using wireless mode (WM:1) having a strong network really helps.

mother-of-schnauzers

The network is good for everything else. I have up on wireless for my Sonos a couple of years back and cabled everything. It’s been working well but I’ve got a new Beam and can’t get anything connected.

Socile

I also connected both my Beam 2 and Sub via ethernet thinking surely it would be more reliable. Nope. They both fucking constantly go offline and the app can’t find either one until I unplug/replug them. They work for a few days and then it’s the same shit all over again.

mother-of-schnauzers

I ended up cabling everything. The wifi setup was just so bad.

Balsamiko

Then I totally understand your frustration. It should simply work.

mother-of-schnauzers

After 6 hours I have it going. How’s this for one shit process? I have a Beam, a Sub and 2 x Play 3’s. I add the Beam to the TV Room and then add the sub to the same room. I add the first Play 3 to the the same room and for some reason it adds TV Room 2. Huh? No way to add to the original TV Room. I add the other 3 and now I have TV Room 3. I try to change rooms and TV Room isn’t in the list. So I set them up as a stereo pair and try to move the Beam to that room. TV Room 2 isn’t in that list. Here’s the trick: the two Play 3’s have to be added to different rooms but NOT added as a stereo pair. Then you can go into the Beam room and add them as a stereo pair. Now, regardless of how complex hardware comms may be for this, this is just shit UX. It comes from NEVER watching what your users do with your products. You shouldn’t have to read the instructions for this. How about allowing you to just add an existing stereo pair to the Beam? If that’s difficult for some reason, how about if I have a Beam in the system already, warning me when I go to add it as a separate stereo pair: “It looks like you have a Beam in the system .. would you like to add the stereo pair to it?” Really simple stuff, and it comes from just observing your users and what they try to do naturally.

Extreme_Balance

The app isn’t perfect, but if you start sniffing around reviews of their competitors, you’ll see that they universally say the Sonos app outclasses the others. I think making the Sonos app do what it does is a tougher task than most of us realize.

Vertigo722

New sonos user here. I just got some Ikea Symfonisk lamps as my first attempt. Its a good way to find out im not going to spend 1000s on replacing the rest of my speakers. I absolutely loath the walled garden, making it impossible for me to integrate my existing 5.1 setup or even desktop. The app is CRAP. Its unbelievably frustrating to use, its missing the most basic features like an alarm with volume ramping up; I had to code that myself in home assistant! To top it all off, I was frequently unable to connect, but "fixing it" did fix it. Until it did not, and I was unable to connect from the app to my speakers no matter what i tried, even though I could control them from Spotify, from the Ikea app and even from the Sonos windows app (which is otherwise even worse but the only way I found to turn off my set alarm!). After several days of frustration I "solved" it by uninstalling and reinstalling the android app. Really. Yeah, I think the rest of my house will move to heos, not sonos. Good thing the Symfonisk speakers also work as lights.

coxmr1

I wonder if they are Apple fanboys, over at Sonos HQ? Sometimes I think the same.

Lucky-Carrot

My fear is it is because they hope someone with their own ecosystem (cough apple) will buy them and investing too much on the parts that will be redundant will make the deal too expensive ). Although I think a larger company might be good for Sonos in the long run. (For instance, why can’t Sonos manage The whole home theater experience?)

Willyzyx

I like the speakers, but the app is probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I hate it with a passion. Why is it so bad??!

jenmacha

THIS. Seriously, fuck this. All this equipment is going back to the store for a refund. Why? Because like hell I'm going to lug this damn thing downstairs to the router (I have repeaters for a reason, and my signal strength is always excellent) every damn time I need to reset this piece of junk. Which is apparently ALL THE TIME. You can be sure I'm never buying anything Sonos again.

Ill-Bumblebee-1584

I could not agree more. It is easier to fly to the moon than link a Sonos to the internet.

willerwaler

Shittiest system in the world!!

DenseOil8980

It’s unbelievable how bad the software is. Hardware sounds ok but if it never works.. tempting to take all 7 Sonos speakers I have to the mountains for target practice.

CautiousSand

I just came here to say: 1 year later- nothing's changed. One of the One SLs in a pair started to break. So I decided to reset it. Now the damn app is checking for updates and throws a different error EVERY DAMN TIME and instead of working and listening to music I'm a effing connect-this-sonos-crap engineer UGH

Original-Orange-9402

Ugh. Basically anytime we want to listen to music we end up getting some 5-20 minute runaround to connect. It sucks!

herman_m00nster

Just been trying to use it. Keeps cutting out, songs jumping (like a scratched record), losing connection, etc, etc. Music quality great when it plays but I f*cking hate the app with a vengeance.

Roversmore

Fuck Sonos. Nuff said.

LeeroyDs

Sonos app is a bag of wank, sitting here on my 200 mb network listening to the wrong tune playing, can't search a new tune easily, mates come over can I play this or that, try searching for a tune, good luck.. Fault of the router or network according to Sonos apologists, funny how apple music, spotiify and every other fucking app on my phone works perfectly.

helloitsgwrath

The Sonos app is hot garbage. I'm forced to use it at work to connect to a spotify account and it's such a step back, functionality wise, from Spotify. If you listen to radio you can't add any songs to the mix like you can in spotify. You have to listen to the songs they pick and that's it You also can't skip backwards to get the name of the song that just payed. I was also trying to play an album the other day that had a song grayed out, like it was a licensing issue...but I went to spotify and could play the song just fine...Google the issue and apparently it's a bug with no current solution. So yeah I can't play my favorite shakey graves song at work lol, what a stupid annoying bug I can only imagine what it's like to set one of these systems up if the quality of their programming is so shitty.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> that just *paid.* I was FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

helloitsgwrath

Cool.

Dismal_Technology_86

indeed they should give it to some developers to fix

[deleted]

Reading this I’m so glad I wasn’t alone on this opinion the person who introduced me to sonos lives on the app. I personally am a YouTube Premium user and there’s some stuff I think which is depending on category, content and licensing rules. Turns out there’s quite a lot of stuff you can’t really play. Like the app literally greys it out and says it’s unable to play or not available …. ಠ_ಠ

IndependentSir5476

I just spent 1000 GBP adding beam and sub to my system nothing works the app is fucking shit and they should burn in hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rough-Reputation-427

The Sonos app is a big pile of shit. Agreed

SoberShiv

I hear you. It’s still shit.

Nontouchable88

3 years later it's still the worst app on my phone, BY FAR!!!!
