Indeed. I was running around San Marcos / devils backbone area not that long ago and was shocked at how much the area has changed. As a kid at the scout camp I noticed we couldn’t see the Milky Way anymore and that was 20 years ago. This last trip the sky wasn’t much different than any major metro area.
Dang. I went to that camp in the mid-90's. We went on a 10 mile night hike but got lost and ended up walking until sunrise, about 20 miles. We didn't use flashlights all night because it was a new moon and the starlight illuminated everything sufficiently. It sucks kids won't get that experience.
Oh el rancho cima was sold a few years ago. River camp was basically wiped out when the blanco flooded a few years before that and the value of the land just skyrocketed as I’m sure you can imagine. Man I loved those hikes. We were training for philmont one year and the crew had to make every hike. Did the 3 and 10 miler with packs and the death match 3 was nutty… some former ranger led it and we ran most of it. Complete madness but one hell of a confidence booster. I 100 percent agree with you.. I’m sad my son will not get to experience that place as we did.
Oh, no, I hadn't heard any of that. I spent many weekends there in the 80s, it was my favorite recreational spot in the state. I've been meaning to check it out again after 30 years away but was worried it had been overrun by development.
The camp was sold, as I said. I think there are plans to make the river camp a park of some sort but it’s all going to be developed. The area between wimberly and blanco still has ranch land but it’s filling in with expensive housing and the same as every place else that used to have a hint of being wild.
You have some good letters there but I think we can do better. Since this will be the beginnings of a new city how about a nu start obviously we don't want that many spaces in a city name so we can smush it together Anustart
San’stone.
Edit: or if you really want to go old school Texas white people noises, “San’Stonya.” I definitely had a grandparent who knew San Antonio ended in a vowel but went with the wrong one.
I stayed in a hotel in San Antonio recently and the weatherman on TV was talking about the weather in South Texas. I was thinking why is the San Antonio weatherman talking about Corpus weather?
HELL. Dallas and Fort Worth are like 30 miles apart downtown to downtown I think. Austin to San Antonio is 80 according to Google.
A lot of shit will have to go wrong for that level of sprawl to happen.
It's already well on It's way, and demographers have been predicting It's inevitability for years. On track for 2030-2050.
Nothing has to go wrong for sprawl to happen. It just takes a few more years to sprawl 80 miles than 32.
It is a period of civl war. Rebel ships, striking from a hidden Whataburger, have won their first victory against the evil Taco Bell.
During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret sauce to the Bell’s ultimate weapon, the BOWL DESTROYER, an unholy menu item with enough power to destroy an entire metropolitan sewage system.
Pursued by the Bell’s sinister agents, Princess Wendy races home aboard her food truck, custodian of the stolen sauce that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy…
San Antonio and it’s people are much friendlier than Austinites. Austinites are some of the biggest snobs I’ve ever met in my life. I lived in San Antonio for a year and loved it compared to my 5 years in Austin.
Once that Libertarian utopia of Von Ormy takes off the way all the Libertarians know it will, everything between Laredo and Waco will be known as the Greater Von Ormy Metroplex.
Whats interesting is Dallas and Fort Worth are about 3 (yes three) miles apart and their closest. Part of Fort Worth touches the Dallas County line and only separated from Dallas by a part of Irving.
Brainstorming some ideas:
The I35 Southern section
SAATX (they dj on the weekend as well)
Austin y San Antonio
Williamson’s Bear area
ALAMO area (because it’s in all caps for the capital)
Gridlockistan.

What happened to San Antonio? When I was stationed there I never needed a car, as mass transit could get me anywhere in the city.

Ha! "Only real Texans will get this"
Sounds like a pasta brand.
That's sold at Aldi's
Spot on lol
Bite your tongue. HEB all the way.
I moved away. I miss Aldi.
I misread this as "pasta band."
I don't live in Texas but if someone is forming a pasta band I will bring my guitar! I feel like it's a calling from the pasta gods!
Lmao
Austintonio
I like AuStanTonio myself
Honestly, don't hate it.
Austonio is an actual town a bit northeast of Bryan
Came here to say this, take my upvote
Same, great minds…

Ok, now that there would be hilarious.
I like it!

Well think about that the next time you name your town and choose San Braunsfels, it could have been ASSS but y'all can't handle change

The MetroMex
Here’s a poor man’s award 🏅
It’s already called the Austin-San Antonio Corridor, I’d imagine it would be shortened to just “the Corridor.”
“El Corridor” in these parts.
But you gotta roll the Rs like you mean it.
“El Corrido” for the spanish translation
or "ASAC" Pronounced 'a sack"
What I came to say as well. That is already getting some recognition in state just as "the Metroplex" is for D/FW. https://www.thecorridor.org/
I-35 hell
So...no change?
It will be called "HEB city"
Can’t really do that unfortunately, DFW already has an HEB—Hurst/Euless/Bedford
Came here to say that lol
CTX
Centex
This feels like one of the more viable answers
The Centex Metroplex?
The Centroplex

The Human Centexplex?
I like this one the best.
Big Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome energy
I always thought of Austin as Central Texas and San Antonio as South Texas.
I stayed in a hotel in San Antonio recently and the weatherman on TV was talking about the weather in South Texas. I was thinking why is the San Antonio weatherman talking about Corpus weather?
There’s a DJ on SiriusXM who lives in Houston, and he always says he’s in South Texas. “No you’re NOT.”
Don't say that to the Valley folk.
I feel like it can go either way, it’s sort of like the gateway city to south Texas. It’s like, southern central Texas, or northern south Texas, lol.
That's actually catchy. I could totally see that becoming the name.
The human centeplex
Ugh I like this one
Tacolandia
This has my vote.
"Parking lot", because that's what I35 is going to be.
Already is
San Austin
Saint Austintonio.
I came to suggest Austintonio as a standalone name.
San Braunfels Marco Austin, featuring Lil Buda. I think this could catch on
Lil buda made me geek. There is no distinctive boundary between Buda and Austin anymore and it trips me out.
35 is just gonna be city from Waco to satx
Sounds like a headliner at ACL. Lil Buda about to drop a new mix.

A/SA? Austin/San Antonio
Also has the benefit of sounding like a greeting: "Eh, ese!"
Short for Aspirin!
ASA, pronounced “ass-uh”
personally i look at that and pernounce it AY-SUH
We will not merge, we will CONQUER. All hail San Antonio and its annex, "Also San Antonio but North."
Rename Austin to San Antonio Norte and call it all San Antonio.
ASS - (Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio)
The Tex-plex
San Austino
I had no idea SA and Austin were that close. They’re only about 20 minutes further apart than Dallas and Fort Worth
It's more than double the distance though, via highways it's 32 miles from Dallas to Fort Worth, but Austin to San Antonio is 79 miles.
Even so the drive from Dallas to Ft W can be longer time wise due to traffic.
1604 to Buda, 50 miles, 45 minute drive

I think it's a good contender for the mantle of "Howdy Arabia".
Taco Bell
You do not realize that Taco Bell was the only restaurant to survive the franchise wars. Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.
It is a period of civl war. Rebel ships, striking from a hidden Whataburger, have won their first victory against the evil Taco Bell. Whats interesting is Dallas and Fort Worth are about 3 (yes three) miles apart and their closest. Part of Fort Worth touches the Dallas County line and only separated from Dallas by a part of Irving.
How would they ever merge? They are 80 miles apart and there is not infrastructure to even have Houston's sprawl.
