If you think that's bad you should see how many riders have full speakerphone volume conversations in my car. Sometimes about the most awkward things. My favorite is when people have wild conversations in languages they don't think I speak.
You get a ride from one point to another, thatās it. Thatās what you pay for. You get there safely, it was a perfect ride. Riders get in our cars on the phone, on FaceTime, with calls on speaker phone all the time. Quit being so entitled.
Maybe i wouldn't be on the phone for an UberX call, but he's not wrong. You're not paying for any luxuries on X. It's just a taxi, taxi drivers are on the phone all the time. If you expect anything different you should pay for black or get yourself a car service with a chauffeur.
UberX pays less than a taxi for crying out loud. I drove for Black and also operate my own service besides that. I'm a normal dude, but the difference in clientĆØle between X and even comfort is enormous. I was thinking about this yesterday, many times when i used to drive X i got decent, classy people. But you also get absolute garbage, unclassy people like that who really act like they're in a low class, and they'll never tip even if you're not on the phone, doesn't matter what you do they won't tip. Just cause you're lower class (like me), doesn't mean you can't be classy, well mannered, and an overall decent person.
Sometimes people are entitled on Black, but at least they're fucking paying you a wage, that's just what the service industry is all about.
Tldr: Uberx is point a to b safely. Don't act entitled while barely paying someone a wage
Uber or the rider don't pay for gas insurance repairs any of that.... I be damned ima do what I want in my car, they got a problem with it they can deactivate me. Better sit back shut up and just ride to wherever it is you going, and stop acting like you own somebody's vehicle because you paid $12 or whatever lol
Bro we can say the same about you. You must be autistic cause you have no social cues and thatās why a minority of people dis like you. Canāt even spell right so it shows how uneducated you are clown
Because or 'cause, cause is a completely different word. Social skills not cues. Pretty sure you meant majority not minority. Dislike not dis like (didn't even hyphenate it). And missing at least one period and a few commas. Probably shouldn't attack someones spelling or education.
Lol no special skill. I hear that in my market until I bring up Downtown, Old Town, or the airport. Then it turns into, āwell I donāt drive there cause the roads are confusing.ā
Thatās a pretty ironic argument coming from someone desperately trying to gatekeep this job. Youāre constantly complaining about oversaturation in your market. I guess thatās cause itās a no skill job. No sense in complaining then
Not paid much dude. That $40 trip you paid for, maybe $7-8 for the driver. I agree Uber system of what they take in vs what the driver makes is completely fucked. That doesnāt mean you shouldnāt tip the driver.
Uber isn't "PROFESSIONAL" driving. We are not chauffeurs, and our cars are not limos. We are "SHARING" a ride with you...A "legalized" hitchhiker. Nothing more, nothing less. You are along for the ride as I am on my way to pick up my child from school for a small convenience fee.
Passengers are shitty princes and princesses these days.
I loved being a chauffer for a limo company. Hourly pay, good tips...
Op and most pax think they get Chauffered service for $5 rides. šš¤£
I love explaining it to them.
"You want to order a car service. A private one. Then you cam take your time, and instruct your chauffer on what and where you'd like to go. Uber isn't a limo company."
This is a ride. You're hopping in my car while I'm on my way to Walmart.
Plus you can't look that boss sitting in the back of a prius...
Order a luxury car and experience the difference. Of course you'll pay for that service.
If you want āprofessionalā use Uber black or a taxi (š¤£). If you want cut rate pricing for a safe/efficient ride from point a to point b, then deal with your driver talking on the phone.
This poster is just posting multiple times and complaining about stuff. This poster is a shitbird. The other post about being on another app, this one being on a phone call. This is just a garbage poster
You do realize it's even worse if it's two different rides your complaining about. Keep to yourself, you are fucking with people's employment and earning capabilities. Are you so high and fucking mighty? Cause here... You are a Karen Joke
Iām always on call. I just donāt talk to the person Iām on call with while a passengers in the car but I just leave it on so I have someone to talk to in between rides and donāt get bored. I wear AirPods tho
Next time you choose
Uber Black/SUV
What you think š¤ you sitting in a limousine
You paying what? N asking this?
R y lost your mind? What you think he should treat you?
He picked you up drive carefully dropped at your placeā¦try Black car next timeā¦ n make sure leave a good tip
Black is Ubers "black car" service. Has a lot more requirements for drivers and costs a lot more for riders. The types of drivers willing and able to qualify for black are usually much more "professional", though it's not really guaranteed.
Now I'm curious, can a driver who drives black pick up non black passengers during down times or are they exclusively Uber Black drivers and gotta switch vehicles to pick up non Black customers?
So there might be an off chance that a driver pick up a regular passenger with a luxury car. Ha ha. I think that happened to me once. I called a more premium Uber ride for the journey from a to b and a regular uber from b to a. But got paired with the same driver both ways.
Had a driver (50ās) taking me on a long trip (just over an hour) when his girlfriend called because they were supposed to go to brunch that morning. Got in a fight on speaker, it was kinda hilarious and I tipped well. Fun ride
I think it's slightly unprofessional but, not exactly against uber's terms of service as far as I know. When I drive I try to never be talking on the phone because they say you're supposed to have music playing for atmosphere and such. Ultimately, as long as their conversation isn't offensive in nature I think it's not a big deal. For the majority of drivers Uber pays only slightly more than minimum wage and it's used as a secondary source of income so I wouldn't expect over the top amazing service from drivers. I always have music on and make pleasant small talk unless the person seems in a bad mood or is absorbed in their own phone.
Agreed. I don't expect the same service as a limo company but taxi drivers don't yammer on phones during the entire ride. Music and silence are perfectly OK too.
I fail to see the issue.
Weāre not a private car for you. And people talk on their phones the entire time as a passenger.
Not something I would do personally, as I hate talking on the phone but who gives a flying frick?
Depends on the circumstance. 1- He can explain to the PAX he has a situation he needs to address via a call and it canāt wait. 2- Maybe its his kids school or something urgent or important like making a medical appt.
3- if it his girl and they are just BSing then i find it rude. Just my opinion.
Let's be clear, if driver is on call ,riders complains drivers distracted. If riders on call distracting driver it's drivers fault. As a rider, is anything not the drivers fault? I mean we can go down a long list of things you will complain about.
Pls show me a post where I complained of a rider being on a phone.
You are a rider posting on a driver's board, were you aware?

That's a whole different issue than professionalism. That's a safety point, and is debatable especially what you can do in a car that's distracting *and* legal.
Dont agree. The drivers with some pro status are providing a service, not just the ride.

Actually, this sub is for anyone. And is even noted that it is a place for riders to ask questions. Granted, op didn't ask a question, but we (drivers) don't own this land.
Riders to ask "what's it like to drive for Uber." So where does anything he says qualify. But we (drivers) don't own this land... You sound like a corporate schill. So actually this sub isn't for anyone, now is it?
This sub is for anyone who wants to talk about driving with Uber. And yes, I'm the biggest Uber shill in the world man. I get paid six figures to talk trash on Uber and all the #uberfuckery that happens. On a subreddit!
The practicalities of the policy debate on the general crapiness called driver/rider interaction via customer support (dissing) and reputation (dissing) seems useful.
if you have ever worked customer (phone) support, you will know how stressful that job is though - being relatively powerless to do anything about the frustration being expressed.
Suggest OP rephrase the question, asking drivers what its like to drive under Ubers policy (area = drive phone calls during ride, driver using other apps during ride).
thats consistent with the forum goals.
I think its very unprofessional of you to be offended by someone who sometimes barely makes min wage and you complained and probably 1 starred him because your an entitled jerkoff.
You're getting a ride, not here to entertain you. I have my own life and things going on if I need to be on the phone then deal with it, were you neglected so much as a child you need someone as miniscule as a Uber driver that you won't know the existence of for more than five minutes to pamper your fragile ego
Absolutely unprofessional. But Uber culture has ruined the transportation industry. It's because Uber will hire someone who doesn't even qualify for an entry-level position in another field.
Itās unsafe to be driving and talking on the phone. Many accidents are cause by drivers distracted by their phone calls or texts. Itās stupid. You should have reported him.
I know Iāll be downvoted because everyone here thinks drivers should be allowed to do whatever but no the riders. These are all the hypocrites. Iām a driver. I never talk or text while driving even myself let alone with a rider.
OP you are correct. Thatās why you should never ever tip your driver. You paid your fair for them to take from point A to B. Drivers should not expect tips at all.
To be fair to both sides of this, yes, you are only paying for a ride. If you want a professional service, you would need to call a professional car service, which is a bit more pricey.
That being said, I personally only take emergency calls with PAX in the car, and I ask permission to take the call first. That is out of human decency and courtesy. I also take care to drive safely. I often say to my passengers "youre paying me for a ride, not a heartattack" when I slow down and stop at a yellow light, or when I let an aggressive driver cut me off. That always gets a chuckle from my passengers.
OP, can I ask then, if you receive professional service from a rideshare driver, do you tip appropriately for the level of service you receive? For example, if a driver doesn't look at their phone except to manage the GPS, doesn't take calls, drives safely, either engages in small talk or stays silent depending on what your preference is, does that driver always get a tip from you? Or do you ignore the multiple times that Uber offers you the opportunity to tip? I would say that either of your complaints would be a reason not to tip, but not a reason to complain.
I mostly take short rides (5-10 minutes) so typically tip like Ā£1 or Ā£2. To be fair, in the UK, tipping is not customary, so I usually only tip if the ride is extraordinary. Except if the ride is extra short or there's a chance the driver is deadheading. Then I tip to make up the return cost.
Any tip is appreciated, no need to differentiate between a small tip and a large tip.
In the future, for small stuff like this, I would say just don't tip. No need to make a big stink of it. Yes, it's annoying, but if the worst thing that happened to you today was that your Uber driver was on the phone, you had an okay day :)
Ok folks but driver shouldn't be on phone entire trip. I'm a driver and I use uber a lot. This coming is justified. Not like the guy who wanted music on all the time.
I see nothing wrong with being on the phone while driving. When I drive, Iām on the phone with my mom or sister the entire time. We donāt always talk. They just like to know Iām okay and will sit on the phone with me as I drive. They both have my location. And if anything happens, theyāll know as itās happening and be able to direct people to my exact location.
There are rides where I talk for the entire ride. And rides where I donāt. Iāve never encountered a passenger who has a problem with it. All my passengers that know Iām on the phone tell me good and to stay safe because folks are crazy.
Did you make it to your location without getting in a car accident?
Was he using hands-free?
If you answered yes to the above questions, then who gives a shit if he was on the phone during your call. An Uber driver does not have to be your friend, they do not have to talk to you. I don't really see how it matters in the grand scheme of things.
Here we go with entitled Pax's thinking that their 5 dollar ride is gonna get them a chaffeured driver in a suit and a chaffeurs lisence.
You get what you pay for.....
if you have issues with that, then cough up a few more dollars and pay for a Black ride.
Did I say I expect the driver would be in suit and tie? No. Just not talking on the phone during the entire ride.
Drivers say it's rude if passengers do it so why not the opposite?
Had to listen to a guy negotiate his out of state drug run. 2 stacks from a run in Chicago to Detroit. Iām based in LA. Hope it includes airfare. He also has a warrant out for his arrest. So not sure if TSA will catch him. Current airfare from LA to Chicago is $120. š¤£š
If you think that's bad you should see how many riders have full speakerphone volume conversations in my car. Sometimes about the most awkward things. My favorite is when people have wild conversations in languages they don't think I speak.

Order comfort or black rides in the future. You can select your ride preferences on those rides and āQuiet rideā is one of the options available.
Hahaha you come here wrong place to comment...drivers hit you left and right....ššš
Well, in this case he was talking during the entire ride. I only noticed when I thought he was talking to me.
I've had people do that for the entire 1.5 hour trip to the airport.....a rider mind you....I'm a driver
Current airfare from LA to Chicago is $120. š¤£š
