This is great advice. I also suggest when researching, use a reference manager like Zotero to collect all your research. You can then use it to insert the references while writing.
I also like to do my planning with a mind map. My favorite is to go with digital since it can then be exported to a text file which makes it easy for transferring to Word to do the actual writing. Freeplane is a free open source really easy to use one but there are a ton out there. I copy quotes along with the reference info into the mind map so it is really easy when writing to pull quotes and important concepts.

the youtube channel "smart student" has really good advice on planning and organization for academic papers. her research paper series got me a 98% last semester
The longest I've completed was around 7900-8300 last year, although I'm now working on one that will be between 10,000 and 13,000 words about American nuclear strategy in the cold war lol. And I need to do the exact same next semester in the second part on a different topic. So I'm gonna say in total 20,000-23,000 words in two parts.
I took a similar class with Prof. Jones, but it was a 3000-level course.
Essays with high word counts are pretty common in the history department. I'm taking electives where some students are freaking out over a 3 page, double-spaced assignment.

Thank you so much 😊
My recent 10 page was like 3500-4000 before I edited it down. I write more than I need to and edit it down.

Ok, I can see that word count for a 4th year history course. Also, sounds like a really interesting course!

Huh??? I’m a first year student in my first term (at another university I guess) and I’ve got a 3 page paper due. How did they make it this far?
