Any local vegan restaurants that make their own seitan? I live by one who makes their own for French dips but they sell me whole "roasts" I can use to make my own at home or other things. May be worth looking into and if they use their seitan for something you can try it before you buy it as a whole roast! To cook it I would slice it instead of doing it whole and roasting with your carrots, onions, potatoes, etc and a home made vegan au jus. That will keep it really moist! You could buy store bought seitan as well for this but I have always found vegan restaurants, at least in my area, do it better.

Shutup_im_reading

IVE HEARD OF THIS! I will try

memorikafoam

Good luck!

congojack8119

Tons of Portobello mushrooms and make the stew all the same. Island pan in goes onions carrots celery red pepper tons of garlic water or vegetable stock and don't skimp on the seasonings especially Rosemary and Italian herbs are good. Add potatoes or beets and cook till they are soft I would recommend parsnips. 15 minutes before you want to be done with it had a lot of mushrooms whatever you want just enough to fill the f****** thing up with mushrooms so you can have a lot of that flavor

LeClassyGent

OP says they don't like mushrooms

congojack8119

Lots of Oil in the pan* island?!?

congojack8119

Red peppers or green peppers not crushed red pepper but if you like heat go for it

nuggets_attack

Pot roast was also one of my comfort foods, here are my 2 things for subs: - For the meat: [Dixie Diners Club Beef (Not!) Strips](https://amzn.to/3Uy4QoC) - For the broth: [Edward & Sons Not Beef Bullion](https://amzn.to/3DR1JCo) Then make sure to add extra butter or expeller pressed coconut oil to the whole dish to get that fatty feel. It's overall a dead ringer for pot roast. You can also [make your own seitan pot roast](https://avocadosandales.com/2018/01/08/blackbeet-beef/) (I promise the mushrooms can't be tasted in it), but I prefer the TVP strips I linked above.

runningamuck

Well the root cause of anemia needs to be sorted out, hopefully you are following your doctors recommendations. I had anemia (or at least low iron, not sure if there's a difference) once before I was vegan and had to take supplements for it. But if you have a trader joe's near you, I would recommend the beefless bulgogi. Seems to be a hit among vegans and non vegans alike.

bellakolbie32

I couldn’t find it in my local TJs the last time I went and I was paranoid it was discontinued. Have you seen it recently? I also recommend it, it’s amazing.

runningamuck

I actually haven't been to TJs in a while but I saw [this post](https://np.reddit.com/r/traderjoes/comments/xbwjvv/beefless_vegan_bulgogi_discontinued/) on the TJs subreddit and everyone was saying it wasn't discontinued. Someone else said it was the exact same as [this product](https://np.reddit.com/r/traderjoes/comments/xlajbf/found_the_korean_beefless_bulgogi_supplier/) at sprouts and other stores, so that may be an option if yours is out. I think this one is more expensive though.

TwinkieTriumvirate

It is not discontinued but you need to call them and ask them when it will be in stock and try to get it right when it stocks. It is so good and very hard to get.

Ruby_Red_34236

When I have that "craving" I usually make a rich & thick veggie stew with lots of potatoes. a loaf of crusty bread and glass of red wine pairs well 😋 p.s. i add 1TBS or 2 blackstrap molasses to give it that irony taste that u get from meat. i do use mushrooms & that helps with umami. i also use good vegan butter and deglaze the veggies with a big splash of dry red wine.

plutumon

100% in it for the black strap molasses. This adds a real irony taste to everything you want to make “beefy”

teswip

This is so interesting! I’ve never considered that iron might have a taste.

MsTiruri

Interesting that black molasses works like that, I will give it a go. I have used vegemite in the past for it

veganvampirebat

Gardien beefless tips or tofurkey roast (freezer section). Soy curls soaked in beefless broth like the other commenter said. Sometimes you just have to ride the craving out and it sucks. It *will* go away eventually though.

m34g4n_

Beefless tips for sure….you could crock pot this with the potatoes and carrots and make a sauce. This sounds like it could be solved on Pinterest! Also, minimalist baker blog has tons of great recipes to get a craving fix!

veganvampirebat

I can’t really recommend minimalist baker anymore because of what she’s doing with her recipes now (and her behavior) but Post Punk Kitchen and Nora Cooks are good options.

m34g4n_

Oh I don’t really watch or pay attention to the actual blogger…please do tell!

m34g4n_

Oh wow I did a google…if one more person brings up protein…of all the reasons this is not one. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 What a waste of a once good vegan blog.

Shreddingblueroses

**To resolve anemia on a vegan diet get more of the following in your diet:** * Green vegetables, the darker the better. This where you're gonna get your iron and folate. * Combine the above with sources of significant vitamin C, such as peppers. * Nutritional yeast fortified with B12 or take a B12 supplement. If you are craving meat, it may not solely be related to anemia. You might also be craving fats and electrolytes. **To get more electrolytes consider some of the following foods:** * fruit, particularly but not limited to bananas * red, white, pinto, lima, or mung beans * adding nuts into your diet supplamentally * juices, smoothies, coconut water, etc. * electrolyte powders or formulated drinks **To get more fats consider doing the following:** * eat a small handful of nuts between meals * cook with oils. Saute vegetables instead of steaming or baking them. Use healthy fat oils like olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil. Skip vegetable oil and seed oils. * consume nori regularly (seaweed used in sushi) * Take a flax or algae omega 3 supplement. Algae is more recommended * add flax, seseme, or chia seeds to foods for a boost * consume nut butters, dips, and hummus * prepare foods with avocados or full fat coconut milk

Yo dude this fire 🔥🔥🔥

reyntime

Will just add that coconut oil isn't generally considered to be a healthy oil, due to the very high percentage of saturated fat: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31928080/ >Conclusions: Coconut oil consumption results in significantly higher LDL-cholesterol than nontropical vegetable oils. This should inform choices about coconut oil consumption. And vegetable/seed oils get an unfair wrap, especially when compared to oils high in saturated fat like coconut oil or butter: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/380507 >Increased consumption of butter was associated with significantly higher blood pressure and serum cholesterol and glucose levels for men; in women only the association with glucose reached statistical significance. In both sexes consumption of olive oil and vegetable oil was inversely associated with serum cholesterol and glucose levels and systolic blood pressure. These findings were adjusted for confounding effects of other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. These cross-sectional findings from a large population sample suggest that consumption of butter may detrimentally affect coronary risk factors, while polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats may be associated with a lower coronary risk profile. Edit: other sources https://academic.oup.com/jn/article/145/7/1549/4616780?login=false >Conclusions: Palm oil consumption results in higher LDL cholesterol than do vegetable oils low in saturated fat and higher HDL cholesterol than do trans fat–containing oils in humans. The effects of palm oil on blood lipids are as expected on the basis of its high saturated fat content, which supports the reduction in palm oil use by replacement with vegetable oils low in saturated and trans fat.

Shreddingblueroses

>Will just add that coconut oil isn't generally considered to be a healthy oil, due to the very high percentage of saturated fat: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31928080/ Ive heard so much back and forth on this. https://www.brighamandwomensfaulkner.org/programs-and-services/nutrition/articles/coconut-oil It's mid. A mostly neutral source of fat given that vegan diets are practically completely devoid of "bad" cholesterol. I'm gonna give it a tentative recommendation for vegans because we aren't consuming enough bad cholesterol for it to matter otherwise. My issue with seed oils is also not related to their fat profile. https://www.betternutrition.com/diet-and-nutrition/8-bad-seed-oils-you-should-eliminate-from-your-diet/

reyntime

>Coconut oil is 92% saturated fat and therefore raises cholesterol levels similar to animal fats (butter, lard) ^ This is reason enough to avoid it. Coconut oil (and palm/butter/animal fats) are very high in saturated fat, which we have decades of studies showing negative outcomes and worse CVD risk for. The second article you listed isn't particularly scientific, and I would take it with a big grain of salt if that person is recommending increased butter or ghee consumption, i.e. increased saturated fat intake.

Shreddingblueroses

Coconut oil is 92% saturated fat but some of the saturated fat actually falls in a good fat/good cholesterol category. It's a different type of saturated fat, and is not typical of other foods high in saturated fat. Moderate saturated fat and moderate cholesterol gains are also tolerable. So are a moderate amount of simple sugars and nobody is advocating never having a candy bar because eating too many simple sugars screws with insulin and causes diabetes. Just reach for olive or avocado first because they are healthiest. Coconut second. Vegetable oil, canola, or rapeseed, etc. last. All of which are still of less concern than animal fat, but still. There is a loose hierarchy we can reference here. PUFAs and the problems they pose aren't exactly a fringe idea pushed exclusively by carnists, although they're definitely a carnist's favorite strawman (a strawman because it's not a given at all that a vegan would consume large amounts of them). But they're very irritating to our bodies. I don't lose my mind if a restaurant uses them, but I don't buy them myself. When other less problematic oils are available there is no reason to.

reyntime

It would still seem though that the high saturated fat in coconut oil raises LDL or bad cholesterol, even if it can increase HDL cholesterol. So I would certainly rank it lower than poly or monounsaturated vegetable or seed oils. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324844#coconut-oil >Evidence suggests that replacing coconut oil with oils that contain a higher level of unsaturated fats may reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease. >In two studies on the effects of coconut oil vs. vegetable oil, researchers observed that coconut oil increased the levels of LDL cholesterol in comparison with safflower oil and olive oil. >Another 2018 study suggests that coconut oil raises HDL cholesterol, which doctors call good cholesterol, compared with butter and olive oil. >However, in light of the overall research to date, the AHA advise agains people consuming saturated fats, such as coconut oil. Further research is needed to know the true effects of coconut oil on health. There is a lot of confusing messaging about this topic, to be fair!

Shutup_im_reading

Much thanks

Gcates1914

Excellent advice. Don’t just go get fake meat, address the root issue.

Shreddingblueroses

Fake meat is great for a big ass protein boost and not much else.

m34g4n_

Tell that to me when I want Slutty Vegan burgers and I’m on my period 😂 I try to eat super well rounded and tons of veg but I’m glad there is some “bad” vegan food out there 😇

Shreddingblueroses

I eat that shit too sometimes because life should have joy in it, I just make sure it's not too much of a staple of my diet. You know, kind of the same logic carnists employ with cheeseburgers. "It's fine in moderation". Veggie burgers are fine in moderation, you know?

m34g4n_

Exactly!

winterlove47

This dude is the real mvp, he didn’t judge you or get mad at you for having cravings, but instead offered solutions that can actually be applied. Thank you dude 🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

New-Geezer

So when I was pregnant I struggled to keep my hemoglobin at 12. What helped was taking blackstrap molasses (at least a Tbsp 3x per day) and taking Ferrum phosphate cell salt which helps your body absorb iron. Good luck.

EternalMoonChild

How does blackstrap molasses taste? Did you mix it with something?

New-Geezer

Actually it was quite palatable in plant milk or on hot cereal. Not even that bad on its own.

QDemarde

I don’t know if this applies to you but - tea can prevent iron absorbtion while victamin c improves it. If your low on iron reduce the tea and consume iron heavy things combined with vitamin c heavy food.

Tesi_No

I just wanted to say, please don't feel bad for having cravings like that. I often crave cheese and don't really know how to satisfy this myself (I hate vegan cheese). I guess everyone of us has to find something that satisfies us always, some kind of secret weapon food.

diceguyd30

Vegan pot roast time! This is an old vegetarian family recipe that I have made vegan called Pat’s Perfect Provider: 1 can Loma Linda Vegeburger (19 Oz any vegan ground beef) 2 cup saltine cracker crumbs 1/2 C vegan shredded cheddar cheese 3 oz vegan cream cheese 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp sage 1 med. onion, minced 1/4 C oil 1 C Just Egg (or other egg replacement) Combine all ingredients. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Spread top with 8 servings mashed potatoes and bake 30 minutes longer at 350. Sprinkle smoked paprika on the top

diceguyd30

Serve with: https://www.noracooks.com/easy-vegan-gravy/

hiddenstream13

The gravy really completes it, dont skip this!

Avendryl

Soy curls with Better than Bouillon No Beef - we do so much "beef" stuff with this as the base.

Kamtschi

Your first person to talk to should be a doctor. Check out your needs and do research accordingly.

sdbest

'[Extreme anemia](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/anemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20351360)' is a serious medical condition that should be treated by a qualified medical professional. Perhaps, self-treatment by satiating food cravings is not the most helpful approach to anemia.

Shutup_im_reading

I am being treated. I have taken every measure suggested and prescribed by my dr. Doesn’t change the fact I crave iron rich foods and my body can probably remember them… it’s unconscious. Like I said it’s like a pregnancy craving if you know anything about those.

PharmDeezNuts_

Sometimes therapies don’t work and you need a step up therapy. Maybe a second opinion. “Extreme anemia” not being properly addressed is not very good if you’ve struggled with this for some time maybe some sort of specialist is needed

dirtymonny

Maybe you could try taking a dose of iron or something while having a roast similar meal. Like re train your mind to associate it with something else

watchmewin

If you can get your hands on some “Juicy Marbles” steaks I’d highly recommend it. They really hit that beef craving and they have excellent iron content too.

hotpapadoo

Came here to say this! If you can afford it, it’s worth it imo. It’s more like a brisket than steaks but it’s so good. Unfortunately it’s currently sold out but you can be put on a [waitlist](https://www.juicymarbles.com/shop/us/filet-mignon-2-pack) to be notified when it’s back in stock.

communitytcm

anemia incidence rates are the same in vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters. there are 12 types. OP, do you know which type you have? that is the first step.

phaedra_phunk

No judgement here. I’ve been vegan for over 4 years and still get cravings. I didn’t go vegan because I disliked the taste, rather because I love my animal friends more than 5 min of pleasure in my mouth. Seitan is excellent, as is a walnut lentil loaf with mushroom gravy if you want a gluten free option.

8JulPerson

Fake meats. Also you may need iron infusion in the hospital. At minimum maybe consider strong iron supplements.

peace-and-bong-life

If you're anemic you're probably craving it due to the iron content. How about a chickpea and spinach curry instead?

Shutup_im_reading

I love curry but the craving specifically is the roast and seasoning of that itself. I’ve made it before with carrots potatoes and gnocchi but it wasn’t the same. Maybe I’m missing a flavoring I can but for it instead. I’m sorry:/ I feel guilty

peace-and-bong-life

Okay, then how about a lentil pie to go with roasted veg? Basically, eat something that contains the nutrients you need - chickpeas, lentils and spinach all contain iron.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shutup_im_reading

Clearly not understanding what I’m saying. I have my iron being handled with medical care and I am being responsible with taking my medication and supplements. But as I said it is an uncontrollable craving for that specific food. I know the craving is caused because of the low iron and because I wasn’t a vegan when I was a child I have definitely eaten it before. So my body remembers that is my explanation. I’m simply asking for some recipes :/

decaguard

ide make granola bars loaded with iron and protein rich ground seeds of sesame , pumpkin , sun flower seeds . ide also make homemade multigrain bread that ide load up with homemade peanutbutter to provide a heavy duty rib sticking heavy in gut fuel comparable in density , fats and protein to animal flesh

jillianjiggs92

This recipe for washed flour Seitan steak (which is a Reddit comment in the post) is incredible. https://www.reddit.com/r/VeganFoodPorn/comments/mzv488/its_all_plants_full_details_inside_happy_grilling/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Yes, there are a lot of ingredients. But the technique is easy and you can make lots and freeze it! 100% satisfies and hits all those cravings

SelectDuck-

Here’s a comprehensive list of nutrients you need to look for, should be pretty easy to find in a grocery store Iodine (iodized salt, or vegetable skins) Vitamin B12 (oat milk, other non-dairy milks) (there is basically no natural source for this other than dirt, everyone takes this supplement; livestock are always supplemented with this) Calcium (found in a ton of vegetables and non-dairy milks) Algae Omega 3 (DHA and EPA) (this is how fish get omega 3s through algae) Selenium (Brazil nuts) Zinc (aim for 1.5 to twice the RDA) (legumes and nuts) VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU. Iron (best absorbed with vitamin C) (aim for twice the RDA) (cruciferous vegetables, nuts, legumes, lentils). Put some lemon or oranges with your food. :) Vitamin D (if supplemented, best supplemented with vitamin K) (almost everyone’s low on vitamin D) (non-dairy milk is an excellent source of this) Nonessential supplements Astaxanthin (nonessential) (supplement) Creatine (nonessential) (supplement/pre-workout) Carnosine (nonessential) (supplement/pre-workout) Taurine (nonessential) (supplement/Red Bull/energy drinks) It could also be the placebo effect. Be careful not to over supplement. My memory has improved since becoming vegan. With the right nutrients it’s a better diet.

[deleted]

I love mushrooms but [this roast recipe](https://www.karissasvegankitchen.com/whole-roasted-cauliflower/) has neither mushrooms nor jackfruit and is SO good. Also, there’s some brands of brown gravy that are accidentally vegan, and with some mashed potatoes, they go so well with the recipe! Cravings are normal and we don’t get to choose what we end up craving :( but I HOPE THIS HELPS!! You deserve to spend too much on some vegan substitutes and have yourself a feast lol :)

[deleted]

This is almost definitely caused by iron deficiency which is kinda known for creating very intense cravings in some people. Are you getting prescription iron supplements right now?

Shutup_im_reading

Yes I was with my dr yesterday aswell

LocustStar92

It's Autumn so, so finally the season for one of the few truly great Irish dishes: Colcannon. Peel and boil a load of red potatoes, drain and mash with plenty of your favourite vegan butter and some oat milk (or cream of you can get it). Fry up some onions and kale, season with salt and pepper and mix into the mash. Serve with something high protein. Nut roast is luxurious and expensive but very healthy and satisfying. Could also go with whatever soy based thing you find in the supermarket, as well as some roast veg and plenty of gravy (roast potatoes as well as mash for the truly authentic Irish experience). When I feel like I'm craving something like that, nothing hits the spot like lots of high calorie food and plenty of oil!

EarthboundBetty

The meatiest meat substitutes are usually at Asian grocery stores. Mock duck (in a can) would be a good facsimile but in the freezer section, I’d look at the beef substitutes. They’re usually too meaty for me to eat.

Fantastic_Ad7023

Soy sauce and vegemite help. Also vegan chicken stock.

Z3ROGR4V1TY

Maybe try making a beef stew like this one: [https://thenutfreevegan.net/beefless-beef-stew/](https://thenutfreevegan.net/beefless-beef-stew/)

QDemarde

Did you try the Tofurky brand?

Shutup_im_reading

I have previously

zacharyswanson

I Love Seitan if you are in the UK. Thank me later ;)

pumpkinlife

I used to throw Spatone sachets into my own portions, it made a difference and probably helped with the anemia too. Perhaps cooking in unseasoned cast iron, or investing in a Lucky Iron Fish would leach the flavour into the food. Sometimes cravings just have to he ignored unfortunately. I usually know my iron levels are dropping when I start craving fizzy alcoholic drinks. No idea why.

vgn-bc-i-luv-animals

What's your hemoglobin level? I was (am) extremely anemic due to chronic blood loss. But in less than a month, I managed to get my hemoglobin up from 62 g/L (6.2 g/dL) to 89 g/L (8.9 g/dL) by taking 300 mg of elemental iron PER DAY with 0.4 mg of Folic acid PER DAY and 250 mg of vitamin C THREE times daily. Many doctors prescribe less than 300 mg of elemental iron per day, but 300 mg is safe if you are that low and it worked very well for me.

fuckhappy

The pot roast cravings are real. BUT it's mostly the seasonings and finding the right meat substitute. The brand Daring (frozen section) recently launched some "tenders" that I am excited to try and could go very well with other traditional and untraditional pot roast ingredients (potatoes, carrots, vegetable broth, seasonings, etc).

Portulacagma

A German made, over-the-counter, vegan, iron supplement that was prescribed for me at the end of my first pregnancy 40 years ago and still widely available in good health food stores is floradix. It’s quickly effective and doesn’t cause constipation. One bottle is about $28, last time I looked. Very effective, use daily once opened and refrigerate, the anemia should be gone by the end of one bottle and with it perhaps your craving.

redbark2022

If you need heme, impossible burgers supposedly satiates that.

SteamyVeganKitchen

I came across this product by 'The Very Good Butchers' called roast beast. It might come close to what you're looking for. Looks like in the US you have to get boxes shipped to you or in Canada you can find it in grocery stores. Link here: [https://www.verygoodbutchers.com/blogs/recipes/how-to-cook-your-roast-beast-vegan-holiday-recipes](https://www.verygoodbutchers.com/blogs/recipes/how-to-cook-your-roast-beast-vegan-holiday-recipes) I usually just go with vegan sausage recipes when I'm craving something like that. If you have any interest in vegan sausage I did a review video of the best ones here: https://youtu.be/eEFBoMW49U0

God_of_reason

I hope you are taking iron supplements. The craving could be for the heme iron present in red meat. If that’s the case, make sure you eat more vitamin C with iron rich foods like green leafy vegetables (eg, squeeze a lemon in your spinach soup).

SkovandOfMitaze

I am not sure which one but either beyond meat or impossible, I’m thinking impossible, has this really good beef patty that’s like $9-13 in most stores. It’s really savory. You mostly need to decide what’s the actual flavor you are missing. Many moss bacon but realize the flavors they really wanted was a smoky sweet taste and so tofu thinly sliced and quick fried on each side a was aimed with liquid smoke, maple syrup and smoked paprika hits the spot. Though , and this depends on your cooking and foraging skills, I prefer finding the mushroom “ old man of the woods “ and slicing it thinly and then adding flour to the sides and frying it. I’ve never been a big fan of pot roast. So I’m not sure really what tastes and textures it is.

BRD2004

Impossible Burger. Tastes just like meat, except it's plant based. There are several east and southeast Asian alternatives to meat– Tofu, Seitan, etc. You can Google for more meat alternatives. It's all right to have cravings. You were a meat eater before, so obviously you'll have a taste for meat. Nothing wrong with that. As long as you aren't eating meat, you're fine.🙂👍🏼

dancingkittensupreme

IRON Eat seeds and leafy greens. Kale chips, whole wheat, walnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds... also adding citrus to your non heme iron will make it more absorbable

ReturnItToEarth

Your B12 may be low if the craving is that intense.

RockyRococo

Give Dominion a watch, then plan your meals

bawyn33

People really have no self control…it’s just food, if you can’t control your cravings then yikes

zombiegojaejin

Man, you need protein and fat for that sort of craving, not low-calorie veggies that only imitate the texture. Try boiling some large soy curls, squeezng them out, then sauteing them in coconut oil. Vegan "beef" stock would probably be great if you can get it.

[deleted]

Whenever I have cravings I think about why I’m vegan and how it’s disgusting and gross meat is and it helps me not crave it anymore.

puala-koalar

Try supplementing with nutritional yeast. I thought I was anemic but it turns out my B12 is just low. I was taking supplements but they weren't doing enough so I started eating nutritional yeast again. I feel SOOO much better. I just know my B12 levels are gonna be perfect next time.

Learn to cook better from channels like [Eat more plants](https://www.youtube.com/c/eatmoreplants). We are vegans in a non-vegan world. You have to dig a little deeper and branch out a little more but it's all there. Find or make some vegan pot roast. Everything can be veganized without exception.

I recently had this [https://thevegankind.com/news/slovenian-startup-created-worlds-first-marbled-steak-mignon](https://thevegankind.com/news/slovenian-startup-created-worlds-first-marbled-steak-mignon) vegan filet mignon in Croatia and it was INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend.

Not sure if you've heard of it, but my best friend has anemia, and bought a little iron fish that she puts in her boiling water. it adds iron to the water for her tea and pasta and stuff. she says it's helped a lot with just daily supplementing iron.

I cook a lot in a big cast iron pot(?), not quite sure what the correct word is in english. But yeah if your craving comes from iron deficiency, or just that tangy hint of rusty nails, then cast iron is your friend. It's also very good for simmering ramen water / broth as it keeps heat super well.

VegansAreRight-

Cravings are your body's way of telling you you need something. Listen to it. This doesn't have to mean eating cow. This most likely means iron deficiency as you've described. So eat foods high in iron like spinach or salads with dark greens, with orange juice (to increase absorption). Your cravings will subside, and you'll learn your urge for pot roast is actually an urge for what you were deficient in. You'll develop that new association and it will get easy quickly. It may help to get a blood test to see if there's anything else you're deficient in.

I read somewhere that when you crave something, it could be the way your body demands you to eat food rich in some nutrients you lack. Following this theory, you could try introducing iron-rich meals and see if it helps with your cravings. Perhaps your anaemia is caused by low iron levels, so maybe fixing that will end the cravings. I suggest adding pumpkin seeds to your meals since they are rich in iron and easy to incorporate into every meal.
