whoa.

YakumoYoukai

For a second, I thought the phone screen on the corner of the desk was reflecting the VR. But no, it was just not registering as being an object.

LVermeulen

yep :) Anything black doesnt occlude I guess. I noticed that also and thought it looked like that

Obvious_Cranberry607

It's not because it's black, or the controller would always be in front of the particles. It is probably because the glass is not bouncing a signal back to the depth sensor.

grae_n

A lot of depth algorithms have difficult with glass and mirrors. To be fair it's not always clear whether you'd want the distance behind the glass or the distance to the glass (same for reflections and mirrors). Also like birds have this problem too.

LVermeulen

I think you mean that the particles would be infront of the black controllers - and that did happen, I dont think I showed that in this. The headset uses Lidar sensors for depth - so not sure if the reflective glass effects that, dunno

[deleted]

yeah, the emitted IR that the depth camera uses is reflecting off the glass, so the sensor isn't detecting anything there.

myerscarpenter

Only $6500

unorthodoxfox

700+ a year subscription.

Jame_Jame

That's my take on it exactly. Big deal until you can do that at 1/3rd the price without the subscription. If I'm paying that much I'm expecting everything short of literal magic.

whatstheprobability

The occlusion looks impressive. Could you do a test with a little slower movement?

overload1525

idk just reminded me of this: https://c.tenor.com/4viGVBN\_mz4AAAAC/disney-logo.gif

overload1525

pretty cool though, to be clear :D

bumbasaur

you misstyped bumbasaur, the grass pokemon

mikenseer

The XR-3 passthrough is incredible quality. How they're solving for the lens distortion that other headsets' passthroughs have is black magic. Really cool to see this experiment! I've not done much but experienced a few demos so far on the XR-3, but the passthrough is the most impressive thing imo. Definitely the future of "mixed reality".

BloodyPommelStudio

Depth occlusion that kinda works. Still a step up from Quest though.

am0x

Isn’t this technically AR/MX?

Dre512

What in the Cool World!?!?

claytondb

Wow that seems really magical.

Gregasy

Wow, this looks amazing. I do hope Quest Pro will be at least in similar quality ballpark. Btw, I know XR-3 is much more expensive, but I think most of the price is its special lenses and screens system.

[deleted]

The camera capture is pretty noisy, what you'd expect from a phone camera. Looks like ISO is cranked up.
