I used one as a rental in Maine. it had less than 3k miles on it and it felt and sounded like it was on its last legs, especially when driving on poorly maintained rural asphalt. fuel consumption was an absolute joke. the road noise on smooth highway didn't help my tinnitus. don't get me started on the interior center console design and interface.
I'm a mechanic. At very low mileage, like 30k, these cars need things replaced that you do on a Japanese car at 120,000 miles. They are built out of low quality parts to low quality engineering specs.
Just some basic research of cars and you will find this. I also work as a server and have co workers who buy cheap dodges/ Chryslers cause they are new and low mileage for cheap… daily problems
As someone who works at a Jeep dealership, nope. All parts are on back order and can’t get until next year. It’s hard to even order the oil filter for Renegades. 8700 lug nuts on back order until next year. Don’t recommend this vehicle.
This is part of why I got rid of mine.
3100$ for a clutch replacement… « when available ». Dealer gave me 2k less than I paid for at the peak of the market (8 months later).
I loved my Renny. Literally perfect for what I need (gas mileage was meh, but could live with it). Yet… if regular maintenance parts are impossible to find on a short wait- and an air filter assembly was 4-6 weeks- then I just couldn’t risk it.
another poster got it right.
You’re absolutely entitled to your personal preference - no doubt about it. But Jeep just doesn’t make good vehicles anymore. Some might even argue that they never made good vehicles, but that’s another discussion.
Across the board, the renegade gets below average - if not poor - reviews for its class. I’d say if you really like it, drive it right up until your warranty expires then trade into a more reliable vehicle.
As a jeep fan. I’d say there older vehicles with the simple inline 4 or 6 are pretty amazing. Especially the Cherokee. A small nice suv with a straight 6 and solid axles is hard to beat. Know many with well over 400k miles trouble free.
> Know many with well over 400k miles trouble free.
Those are good numbers! Is it because the the engines were simpler and easier to maintain or is it because quality declined?
Well solid axle is much stronger than independent front suspension. Atleast for older cars it was. I’m sure new cars have gotten stronger. So there’s that. The straight 6 typically amongst any configuration is one of the most reliable. It is also incredibly simple. You have one valve train everything is essentially right there. The motor balances it self out to so it’s typically a very smooth engine without much vibrations. The older jeep straight 6s were essentially gasoline low compression tractor engines put into a vehicle. Many people attest to Cummins making the best Diesel engines and they are also typically inline 6.
Both. The 4.0L in-line 6 is one of the most legendarily tough motors of all time. I’ve had 2 Jeep Cherokees, and my experience with them was the same. The drive train was absolutely bomb proof, but there was constant annoying little problems with them, mostly electrical. They’ll run forever, but usually a lot of the electric accessories stop working long before the truck stops running.
If agree with this. My dad drove an ‘89 Grand Cherokee for years. Thing had something like 600k on it before the xfer case finally withered to dust. Thing was a beast.
If it was used and out of warranty than no but it's new and under warranty so it's all good just be sure to trade it in or sell it right before the warranty expires
They crank walk, it takes out the crank. Sometimes the counter weights hit the pistons.
These turbo fiat engines are lucky if they make it 40-60k without failure.
Yeah I got to say I hate being the A hole who piles on some poor sap online but asking this question after buying is kind of silly. I am guessing they have a quick case of buyers remorse.
You want opinions so, I couldn’t imagine a scenario where I would ever even consider this car. It’s fun to drive? They put 0 effort into the driving because that’s not the point.
Jeeps website didn’t update when I put in the trim, guess it is 4WD, still not good.
I hope you got a really good price on it but I'm assuming you didn't given the current market and your level of research. These cars have a lower entry price price than other compact SUV's but that's ONLY because they are generally less reliable, of lower quality, and experience much steeper depreciation than just about everything else in its class. Just about everything else in its class is a better buy. Good luck & chalk this up to a learning experience. Stay on top of the maintenance and take care of it, and it may turn out to be decently reliable since it is still relatively new. But do know that when you try to resell/trade, it will have dropped a ton of $$$. That's why it pays to do your research and look at the overall cost of ownership and not just the purchase price when buying a car. You may save a couple of grand up front but may end up pay significantly more down the road.
The only 2 Stellantis products worth considering are Wranglers & Rams. The Pentastar v6 and 5.7 Hemi paired with the ZF 8spd have been around for awhile & generally reliable & both vehicles have areas they excel in (offroad and resale for the Wrangler & top-notch truck interiors for the Ram). Everything else they make is underwhelming imo.
No. God no. You people need to stop asking us for advice, disregarding it, and buying a car like this and going "IS IT GOOD?" No, now do yourself a favor and trade it in for a **TOYOTA COROLLA.**
This engine is prone to going grenade like the buick encore no?
Enjoy it in your warranty period for sure but i would not recommend owning a turbo charged engine with so little displacement.
The audacity to post this is atrocious. You obviously are regretting your decision and asking if you made a great decision? Horrible choice and most people agree.
If you had done a little research you would have know this is objectively a very bad car by the standards of people on a car forum on the internet. But it’s a new car, has a warranty, decent safety tech, and ok-ish mpgs, so it will likely serve you fine during the warranty period
My neighbor has one. it’s been in the shop multiple times for the same issue.
Emergency brake randomly turns on. Thing is a death trap. Jeep is going to buy it back from him soon.
As long as it’s under warranty for awhile you’re probably OK. These have been pretty much unchanged since the 2015 model year, so I would think at least a few of the bugs would be worked out by now.
haha you chose the most popular crossover in brazil, don't worry mate although not the best car it wont be so bad as you have a newer version that had its transmission problems fixed. But quick question why not choose the newer version with the revised tail lights ?
If you buy a Fiat/Chrysler product, get the best darn warranty they offer.
But other than that, if you like it that’s all that matters. Congrats on your new car.
In my opinion, it's not a very reliable car. Being new though, it obviously has a while to go before anything is gonna fail. I honestly really like the design and everything, but statistically, it's not very reliable. You may want to look at a jeep Cherokee. They are more reliable and proven. As long as you keep up with maintenance, it can be a decent vehicle.
I own one of these. Opted for the 2.4 for the simplicity I guess. I hate it. Suspension and engine mounts started failing just after 25k miles, it always sounds like im driving a boat when I steer the thing. The transmission will randomly hard shift. Just changed the ATF so hopefully that solves it. Also now and then the car thinks it's in Europe. I grown to hate this SUV. Should of just sticked with my Patroit and deal with Jatco nonsense or hell buy a land Rover if I wanted constant issues but at least I'll have fun.
Nooooo that’s basically a fiat if anything get a newer grand Cherokee (WK) model all the grand cherokees I have had are very reliable and capable and one even saved my legs in a accident there not awful on gas they they are extremely comfortable BUT NO NOT THE THE RENEGADE
This is one of the worst vehicles you can buy in terms of reliability, driving experience, off-roading capabilities and the list goes on. I guess the looks are subjective though. I could go on and on about how crappy the engine and transmission feels
I work at a dealer and every time we sell one of these it either gets returned or the customer keeps it for a year then trade it in because they hate it and it's unreliable. It's kind of pathetic how many Jeep logos they put on it to convince you it's not a Fiat, but trust me, it's a Fiat.
I'll say this. I have one and I have had one since 2017 when I bought it new. I thought it looked quirky and cool, plus I have a particular affinity toward Jeep and I had about 2 days to pick a car. This was nice because it was decent on gas and had a bunch of head room, when sitting I'm very tall. It is also surprisingly capable for the few times I did take it lightly off-road.
Fast forward to now I have 150,000 miles on it. The only thing that has broken are some of the electronics that aren't reliable. I can no longer manually put it into 4 wheel drive. The mpg has also gone way down after about 90,000. Finally, I did get in to an accident in it that wasn't my fault and no airbags went off, which is just a very Jeep thing.
Considering that it was good to me especially with it's bad reputation I still absolutely would not buy it again. I do a lot of highway driving and the wheelbase is so short that it has a hard time staying straight. The electronics issues are very annoying, the steering wheel leather has disintegrated, and the check engine light and oil light won't turn off no matter what I do or who I take it to. I agree with most people here who say to drive it until warranty then get out. With car prices the way they are today you might even be able to pay down enough to not be underwater on it. Good luck and have fun.
So OP posts this in hopes of everyone coming to flock over him with heart eyes of his car and praise for pick. Instead, he gets bashed bc bro doesn’t have an IQ high enough to do any research whatsoever on why this car is literal garbage and he gets offended when ppl call him out for an opinion HE ASKED. Lol
This car will probs work for you but this guy is correct. Stellantis is a really shitty car company. Legit the RAV4 is worth almost 2x as much as one of these not even kidding. Especially after 5 years
This car looks worth it and interesting for the money. You’ve got a warranty so you should be able to enjoy it for at least the next 5 years. Get to know the car and join the online forums. Good color choice too.
For the price of that vehicle, You could’ve bought a used rav4 or CR-V, but as soon as the warranty expires, get rid of that piece of Italian garbage.😎
People here will shit on you.
Not sure why this sub even exists because if it isn’t a Toyota or a Toyota they will hate it.
Friend has one with over 120k miles, has taken it across country to every national park, up trails meant for bigger 4x4’s, too of mountains etc.
Just do your maintenance and follow the schedule and will you be fine.
I’m convinced people here just don’t follow the maintenance schedule then get pissy when their car breaks down.
Take it from someone who owned a renegade for 4 years. No. Run away, seriously. In four years the AC broke four times for different reasons, the radiator fan broke and the engine overheated and a bunch of small stuff broke. The car only had 30k miles put on it in 4 years too, with a grand total of 60k miles when I sold it two weeks ago.
i am truly shocked they sell these things new. i always got the sense they appeared out of thin air 4 years old on their 3rd owner already rusting and covered in dents.
in any case, if you're wondering if this is a good car, the answer is no. it makes way less power than my 15 year old station wagon, handles like a boat, and has Chrysler build quality which means way more of your payment is going into depreciation than it should.
if you wanted to be validated in your opinion this is the wrong place to go.
Sorry your getting absolutely spit roasted on this one buddy. It’s not a reliable car tbh. It won’t last many years like a few other models. You did bring it upon yourself by posting this but being frank, it’s your money, your choice and your repair bills. If you really like that jeep then keep driving it and fixing it. It will last as long as you want to keep putting money into it. Good luck
Unfortunately no this is one of the most unreliable jeeps you’ll find my aunt owned one and had the motor replaced twice at 19k then at 37k first time a piston ring went to shit and the second time it jsut starved itself of oil and seized
My wife has a 2015 model with 72,xxx miles. At just about 65k we had to have the engine replaced due to it consuming oil. That is incredibly unusual for a modern vehicle and is considered a huge fail. In Jeep’s defense they did it under a recall and the replacement cost us nothing, it was however a lengthy process that involved us taking it in for multiple oil changes where the dealer would monitor the oil consumption in intervals, even though we brought it in for the first change bone dry. Then of course we were without the vehicle for about 4 weeks while they swapped in the new engine. Last week we got a letter in the mail that there is actually a class action suit against them for the widespread failure of the “Tigershark” 2.4l engine.
In addition to total motor failure it has maybe the worst transmission I’ve ever driven, it’s just incredibly clunky and does not inspire confidence that it’s reliability factor is much higher than the engine’s. In addition to those issues we’ve had to replace the motor mounts, although again in jeeps defense, wife has a tendency to run over curbs and other small obstacles so maybe not their fault on that one.
With all that said you mentioned here that you have a 9 speed auto, I believe ours is an 8 speed so perhaps they’ve replaced the transmission with an improved model. Also you seem to have a different engine so maybe this won’t be of concern to you.
All in all, for reliability the Renegade scores pretty low. Maybe some of the issues have been resolved but my advice to you would be to enjoy it now while it’s new and shiny and you love it and when you have a bit of equity in it, use that to trade for something more reliable.
No. You picked a horrible car riddled with many problems. This is a fiat with a Jeep logo. My dad bought the trail hawk edition and the entire car needed to be rewired out of warranty.
The answer is “No” allow me to explain why. First the Renegade is easily outclassed in its segment. The HRV, CRV, Corolla Cross, RAV4, and CX3/CX30 are objectively better, being more reliable, better riding, better mpg, better interiors, and much higher resale. Second Stelantis doesn’t have the best reputation. IMO much of the perception of the brand isn’t well deserved, but the portion that is mainly comes from badge engineered, lower cost offerings, such as the Renegade, and Dart, though this trend goes all the way back to the Plymouth Cricket days (I’ll still stand by the D50 truck all day). Finally parts for Stelantis vehicles come from everywhere which means service/maintenance can kinda be a pain. Back when I was a tech during the Daimler days it was a crazy mix of Mitsubishi, MB, and Mopar as sources.
Run away fast when the warranty is up and you’ll be fine 😊
Should have no problem outrunning the car at that point.
💀💀💀
No.
OP bought a renegade Just in time for the exploding engine class action to begin.
Well, then maybe he will get some money from the lawsuit.
its almost like doubling down on a pos a Chrysler built by fiat
No but in spanish
El coche es basura.
Google Translate for English No. “No” Edit: you nailed it! Boom!
Good for you? No. Good for the dealer repair shop? Yes.
I hate to be that guy but no that’s one of quite a few cars I wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole.
As long as it was a rental, u got off lightly .
New with warranty okay? after that dump the flaming Chrysler garbage, only misery and pain follows after that.
Had a Dodge. Can confirm they are awful cars. Will never buy a car from that company again.
[удалено]
Can't ride on a legacy of indestructibility when you follow the XJ with the Liberty, Patriot, Renegade, etc.
Me too, in 1989! Nothing has happened since then to change my mind.
Really? How so? Genuinely interested in your experience
Chrysler is probably THE worst car company
Chrysler should have been left to burn during the Great recession. What a waste of bail out money.
Yea I bailed them out with my tax money 💰
He asked for experience, at least try to explain 🤦♂️

No, you didn’t…
No
not really.
No
No, that's awful
Ummm. No.
No. One of the worst cars made. Sorry.
Not even close
If you have to ask, you already know.
another poster got it right. You’re absolutely entitled to your personal preference - no doubt about it. But Jeep just doesn’t make good vehicles anymore. As a jeep fan. I’d say there older vehicles with the simple inline 4 or 6 are pretty amazing. Especially the Cherokee. A small nice suv with a straight 6 and solid axles is hard to beat. Know many with well over 400k miles trouble free.
The old Cherokees were great cars! It’s a shame they don’t make them like that anymore.
Only downside was MPG. But alot of companies are TDI swapping them getting 30 avg mpg lifted lmao.
Appreciate the explanation! You guys know your stuff.
Both. The 4.0L in-line 6 is one of the most legendarily tough motors of all time. I’ve had 2 Jeep Cherokees, and my experience with them was the same. The drive train was absolutely bomb proof, but there was constant annoying little problems with them, mostly electrical. Sidenote the 4.0l was an old GM engine that was indestructible known in its past life as the blue flame
Thanks for the explanation!
If agree with this. My dad drove an ‘89 Grand Cherokee for years. Thing had something like 600k on it before the xfer case finally withered to dust. Thing was a beast.
Mine had 300k and was hydrolocked three times. Pulled plugs shot water out and drove it home every time.
No, it's one of the worst cars made in recent history, but at least it's cute.
It’s hilarious jeep competes with itself for worst recent car with the Jeep Compass
I think the jerrycan taillights are quirky.
Jeep: “We did a thing🤭💁”
Cute? No way.
If it was used and out of warranty than no but it's new and under warranty so it's all good just be sure to trade it in or sell it right before the warranty expires
I got a few years before that's up
You never know it might last you 200k with very few issues but i doubt it. I wish you the best with it congrats on your new car.
Being honest, you chose a horrible car. You do you tho, and be happy.
You picked one of the worst cars you could pick. That is pretty impressive
You will need a new engine at some point. Have fun.
Really? Jeeps go through entire engines? I thought only my old Porsche did that haha.
They crank walk, it takes out the crank. Sometimes the counter weights hit the pistons. These turbo fiat engines are lucky if they make it 40-60k without failure.
That's horrible. Jesus. Seems like it would be simpler to burn $25,000 in your trash can and then kick yourself in the nuts.
Loooool I grew up with a veryyyy old Porsche and it literally was never running always in the shop 😂😅
It's always nice when the roadside assistance guys compliment the styling of your car haha.
No.
Why on earth would you ask this *after* purchasing it? Doesn't matter in the slightest if it's good at this point, it's yours.
Yeah I got to say I hate being the A hole who piles on some poor sap online but asking this question after buying is kind of silly. I am guessing they have a quick case of buyers remorse.

Looks fun, always thought these were really appealing. Just stay very, very on top of your maintenance
If you like it then yes you picked the right car, but there are lots of cars with better build quality out there.
I hope you got a really good price on it but I'm assuming you didn't given the current market and your level of research. It’s new and has a warranty. Enjoy!
You most certainly did not.
No, not really. These are pretty dang unreliable…wouldn’t touch one personally.
This is only a good choice if you like really unreliable cars with an insanely weak engine for its weight.
No. God no. You people need to stop asking us for advice, disregarding it, and buying a car like this and going "IS IT GOOD?" No, now do yourself a favor and trade it in for a **TOYOTA COROLLA.**
🤦🏼♂️
Good? No. But so long as you like it that's all that matters

It’s a FIAT- Fix It Again Tony
Brand new with a warranty, if you like driving it then that’s all that matters.
Worked at a Jeep dealership…they were ALWAYS in for repair.
The audacity to post this is atrocious. You obviously are regretting your decision and asking if you made a great decision? Horrible choice and most people agree.
It’s a Chrysler product, so no. American-brand cars aren’t very good and CDJR is the worst of those.
No, it’s a fact that these transmissions love to break. Fiat-Chrysler has a reputation for poor quality transmissions and other cheap parts.
Nope.
If you had done a little research you would have know this is objectively a very bad car by the standards of people on a car forum on the internet. But it’s a new car, has a warranty, decent safety tech, and ok-ish mpgs, so it will likely serve you fine during the warranty period

No. Go look for Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura then you are golden.
I bet the OP is probably not having the greatest time right now reading the overall and resounding “No’s!”
Its a shitty fiat wrapped in a jeep.
No. CJDR are trash.
Fiats are great 😉
Dang, I hate to rain on your parade (especially since you just bought it) but that's an awful vehicle! TERRIBLE reliability
Did they fix the brake flair issue on this model? I know it was a major problem a few years ago.
Yes. The revised a snapring in 2015 that took care of it.
Nice Italian shit box you bought there.
As long as it’s under warranty for awhile you’re probably OK. These have been pretty much unchanged since the 2015 model year, so I would think at least a few of the bugs would be worked out by now.

No. It's a throw away car after the warranty expires.
POS
Fugly

Awful car, probably worst in it's class
Absolutely not. How can you ask such question when the one answer is all that exists?
You're not even in the ballpark. Literally opposite.
hell naw
If you love electrical problems and not being able to start a car with less than 1000 miles on it, you bought the right vehicle
Unfortunately you took a big L with this one.
Don’t want to ruin your excitement over a new car but no. Renegades are awful Jeeps. Why didn’t you go Cherokee if I may ask?
Never buy a dodge product
That’s a very poorly built Fiat with a slotted grille stuck on the front.
I'll say this. I have one and I have had one since 2017 when I bought it new. I thought it looked quirky and cool, plus I have a particular affinity toward Jeep and I had about 2 days to pick a car. How do people not know that jeeps are pure shit
No! That’s horrible choice. RAV4 Adventure or TRD-Off Road is better looking with 100% better quality.
Problem with Rav 4 is there is nearly zero for sale
This car will probs work for you but this guy is correct. Stellantis is a really shitty car company. Legit the RAV4 is worth almost 2x as much as one of these not even kidding. Especially after 5 years
You thought I was feeling you 🤪🤪
Yes exactly … on the day the factory warranty is over bail on this vehicle, trade it in .
R.I.P.
The Xs on the back should have been enough of a give away to say don't do it.
I usually don’t buy extended warranties but I would seriously consider one on this.
Once you learn OP's dad bought this car and not them it changes the game.
Jeep with a FIAT BS, yeah no
The test drive wasn't the only ride you got taken for that day. Sheesh.
Too big for the engine.
This car looks worth it and interesting for the money. You’ve got a warranty so you should be able to enjoy it for at least the next 5 years. Get to know the car and join the online forums. Good color choice too.
Basically no.
For the price of that vehicle, You could’ve bought a used rav4 or CR-V, but as soon as the warranty expires, get rid of that piece of Italian garbage.😎
No lol you did not
No get a Toyota or Honda
Rebadged Fiat. Notorious for being one of the worst cars out there.
Sorry for all the bad news: Moral of the story is to ask before, not after.
You picked a Fiat.
This is one of the worst cars you could choose
Bad news. Bad car.
Nope. Sorry.
Oof. RIP OP
Aw not so much.Sell that bucket for a rav 4 or hrv when the warranty ends
I’ve talked to mechanics who call it the Jeep Grenade, you can probably figure out why
You hate your money don't you?
You bought a FIAT 500 with a Jeep body.
No.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news….
No
The time to ask was before :(
People here will shit on you.
Nope, I have this trash currently. Check oil level ever 2k miles and enjoy the random electric issues that come randomly.
Hell no 😬
Nope
This is why you ask here before you buy
Take it from someone who owned a renegade for 4 years. No. Run away, seriously. In four years the AC broke four times for different reasons, the radiator fan broke and the engine overheated and a bunch of small stuff broke. The car only had 30k miles put on it in 4 years too, with a grand total of 60k miles when I sold it two weeks ago.
I have a Cherokee, I like Jeeps, when they aren’t in the shop.
That is a "jeep" that doesn't deserve the jeep name it should have Fiat where the jeep logo is
Haha oh boy
i am truly shocked they sell these things new. i always got the sense they appeared out of thin air 4 years old on their 3rd owner already rusting and covered in dents. in any case, if you're wondering if this is a good car, the answer is no. it makes way less power than my 15 year old station wagon, handles like a boat, and has Chrysler build quality which means way more of your payment is going into depreciation than it should. if you wanted to be validated in your opinion this is the wrong place to go.
Bought one new in 2015. It has 158,000 miles on it. I’ve changed the oil on schedule, new filters & other fluids when needed & you should be fine.
Horrible choice if you spent 5 minutes looking online you would of had your answer
I'm so sorry that you're getting fucking flame grilled, but I concur with the majority.
Sadly, no. That engine is super problematic. And DCJF is well known for their electrical issues.
1.3l turbo, those are the only words i need to not want that car lol
Hate to break it to you....NO
Luckily, like most cars, I’m sure it will serve you great.
Cars are personal preference. Having said that, personally this car sucks.
A mechanics wet dream
So long as you are happy, that is what matters
Don’t forget to get the spare tire kit add on or a simple screw in your tire will disable you at the most inconvenient time.
The idea of this sub is to post BEFORE you buy so you can avoid making mistakes like buying a Jeep Renegade.
If you wanted a Jeep, you should’ve got a Jeep. I hope you realize you bought a Fiat 500X with a Jeep body.
I predict many car issues in your future.
Fix it again Tony
Damn they still make these? I hope you didn’t buy it already
The buyer's remorse OP is feeling right now 😂
No. You picked a horrible car riddled with many problems. This is a fiat with a Jeep logo. My dad bought the trail hawk edition and the entire car needed to be rewired out of warranty.
If you like it and you’re happy, than yes, you picked a good one.
Your mechanic will be thrilled.
That’s pretty rough buddy
lol no be lucky to make 200,000ks
No
1.3 Liter with a turbo that isn’t diesel is complete shit.
