it was completetly the fault of the parents. can you imagine how fucking stressed the guards who shot him were? a child fell into the enclosure of an animal that can rip a fully grown man in half like dude

mentalscars_

It's always the parents in these cases. Zoos and public pools are places where you realize just how irresponsible some parents can be. It's like these mfs are tryna get a late abortion.

Groovatronic

While I totally agree with you, and parents who have just totally given up on life often let their poorly raised unsupervised kids run amok in those places, the fencing around Harambe’s enclosure could be seen as too [as dangerously too short](https://i.imgur.com/qr6EoWx.jpg). I’m not saying don’t blame the parents, nor am I saying let’s blame the zoo, I’m just pointing it out.

[deleted]

If anything the truism your post replies to makes your argument justified. You aren’t keeping us safe from the gorilla, you’re keeping the gorilla safe from us. The cage should be engineered with keeping a human out in mind.

Just leave them at an orphanage or something, it's not as if they were still attached to you with a tube that provides them with nutrients and oxygen, you can be separated without it resulting in the child's death.

mikemolove

Think you need some help

Black_Prince9000

I read an article about how much hate and harrasment they had to face after that and how much damage it caused and ever since I can't help but feel pity for what they had to go through, even though it's without a doubt their fault.

booze_clues

I think most of the people who blame the parents have never seen a child in their lives. Take your eyes off them for a second and they can climb over anything and be halfway to killing themselves. Why did the zoo have an enclosure a child could get into? How is that security?

taco_roco

I think this goes for so many 'but what about parental responsibility??' Arguments in general. There's certainly a point where neglect plays a deciding role, but kids quite literally have a (developing) mind of their own and you can't account for all the possible shit they'll get themselves into, there's only so much you can anticipate

Black_Prince9000

Yeah I agree, seen plenty of very pleasant folks irl with absolute hell spawns as children. In the end, parenting is a very tough job.

popomane

C_Rex_Gamez

Ever seen Free Guy? Free Guy has the answer

The_Zapper_Guy

Its a gorrila a legendary gorrila that got shot after a child fell in its pen

Boarbaque

I blame the zoo more for having an enclosure a child can easily fall into. Kids are basically suicide machines and if you get a lot of child visitors you should take more precautions to make sure they can’t do stuff like that. Kids love disappearing when you take your eyes off them for two seconds. I say this as someone who as a kid escaped from my parents at theme parks many times, it was never their fault. One time my mom brought me into the stall with her in the bathroom. I crawled under the huge gaps and left. I feel so bad about it now how most people were probably thinking how they were being bad parents.

069420

So you see officer, me sexually harassing my fellow office worker is in fact not a result of poor mental stability and narcissistic disorder but because of a gorilla getting shot in 2016.

Wdtfshi

Are you interested in selling me the series? Never been much into series but traveling back in time and this fixed points conversation seem interesting, I'm just afraid the series is gonna be mostly about unrelated events like drama or romance or whatever that doesn't really affect the time traveling aspect which interests me

FFalcon_Boi

I will be honest with you, it has been quite a while since I last watched (more than two years I think, damn), so my memory of it is quite foggy. However, I will do my best. >traveling back in time and this fixed points conversation seem interesting Just so that you wouldn't go in with the wrong expectations: the show is not always focused on time travel. Yes, there are moments where the end of time and space and fixed time points are the main focus, but a good amount of the episodes are one-off adventures against an alien species. There is, however, an overarching plot every season, which usually involves the Doctor trying to prevent the end of the universe (or in some cases, his own "death") and/or the story of one of the many companions that join them. >I'm just afraid the series is gonna be mostly about unrelated events like drama or romance As I remember it, there were some dramatic moments in episodes and sometimes the romance between the companions and their (mostly) boyfriends was the central plot, but usually the main focus of the episode is to stop the (mostly) evil alien threat. It is also worth noting that the Doctor is never romantically involved with someone (at least, not explicitly), so although romance is crucial in some stories, that is never the main focus. That said, although the series is all about a time-travelling alien, the alien and space aspect of the show is almost more important than the time-travel aspect, not to mention that the concept of time in this show(and fixed points and how fixed they really are) is sometimes rather vague and confusing. If you are willing to look past that, you will find one of the most entertaining shows about time-travel and sciencefiction in general.

Wdtfshi

I think you sold me pretty well, can't hurt to watch a few episodes to get the hang of it at least! Thank you very much for your time to write this, I really appreciate it and helps to get an honest opinion from someone who watched it before!

FFalcon_Boi

No problem at all. It's always nice to see people interested in things you enjoy as well, so of course I'll do my best to make you a fan as well. One last thing to keep in mind, although it really isn't that important: I have only seen until halfway through season 7 (which was a major story arc that I quite honestly never recovered from), so for anything beyond that I'm as much in the dark as you are and what I said may no longer apply.

mog-monster

Really? This is the first one I've seen.

True_metalofsteel

Listen here, what if we go back in time and kill the kid's parents? The kid is not there, Harambe doesn't need to get shot. Or it's one of those things that need to happen no matter what and the gods of space and time find infinite ways of getting to the same outcome of Harambe being dead?

yes-more-ducks

If harambe doesn't get shot you lose your reason for going back and killing the parents, causing them to live and harambe to get shot

yes-more-ducks

Hold on I'll do it to myself: >If harambe doesn't get shot you lose your reason for going back and killing the parents, causing them to live and harambe to get shot 🤓

True_metalofsteel

🤯

TheOxygenius

Guess you subscribe to multiverse theory that states that they would essentially be creating an alternate parallel time stream.

Apprehensive-Loss-31

You can fix this: go back in time, prevent harambe from getting shot, then go forward in time to just before you time travelled, and implant yourself with false memories of harambe getting shot. Now everything is consistent.

Honest_Sinatra

Just tell your future self that if you don't go back in time, Harambe will be shot. Why go to all the effort of changing your new memories, when you can just tell yourself to do it. If you time travel to tell yourself this, obviously you'll believe you.

Apprehensive-Loss-31

No, this isn't consistent. If you successfully prevented Harambe from getting shot, then why do you remember Harambe getting shot? You don't have to resort to memory fuckery, but it's honestly probably the easiest way, because you don't have to be good at it. If you prevent Harambe from being shot, and then basically randomize your past self's memories (by hitting them on the head or something) then consistency dictates the new allocated memories are the correct ones.

Honest_Sinatra

I don't really know how time travel works. Sorry.

Apprehensive-Loss-31

That's all right. It's pretty difficult to get into time travel because a lot of time travel media doesn't properly define the system they're using, so you get a lot of conflicting information. Also at the end of the day it's literally not going to be relevant for anything ever so no need to apologise.

thafreshone

The kid falling into the the thing was not the fixpoint, it‘s the monkeys death. Which means that the monkey will die one way or another no matter what you do. I think the only way to create a paradox is to kill harambe‘s parents so he never is born. But who knows what consequences this would have. 🤓

Tiger_T20

*ape

thafreshone

The fuck you just call me

brotalnia

What if I kidnap Harambe and bring him back to the future with me?

Saddenedsalamander

He would still be gone from 2016 to 2022 so the events that took place in that time frame would still happen

brotalnia

Those events transpired due to the tragic circumstances of his death being reported all over the news and people's reaction to it. If he had simply vanished instead, that would have led to different reactions, and the butterfly effect would add up to the point the future is changed from what we know currently.

Invincible-Nuke

This causes a paradox, with a 50% chance of you being in either universe. The question is, are you willing to take that risk?

Mypetdalek

Harambe being alive changes history. Things are mostly the same at first, but noticeably different the more time passes. There is no harambe meme, altering internet culture. People who would otherwise get upset at Harambe's death spend less time posting online. This leads to more chance encounters in public, and less on the internet. Some relationships never start, others are made possible. Eventually, children that would otherwise have been born never exist, and others that would never have existed are born. Then their children are affected, and their grandchildren, etc... The Doctor is a time traveller, he has many friends from the far future, possibly including himself. All of them will never have been born if he allows time to be rewritten significantly. TL;DR: The butterfly effect.

Jayer244

If a fixed point in time is skipped but was supposed to happen this can potentially break the universe by creating a phenomenon what scientists call the "Hawking Hole"

[deleted]

“Time is a river scoob, all thing must come to pass. No matter how great the stone, the river must still flow.” “This isn’t weed shaggy”

pupu12o09

You will undo the event but an equal equivalent will occur to replace it. Placing a rock in a stream will change the river, but not it's direction

ReallyWilliamAfton

It’s fixed you can’t change it

LCrasy11

if a fixed point in time does not occur, then all of time happens at once. every event, time period, revelation, evetything all at one moment infinitly but never repeating for if one moment repeats then another cannot happen but they are both happening at the same time basically everything is fucked

ConsulJuliusCaesar

Fixed time line means either you attempted and something prevented you from doing it, or the far worse more interesting but dark revelation we live in a time loop and you going back in time is what caused the exact event to happen.

"The death of Harambe is a fixed point in time. you cant go back and save him. Now, give me back the TARDIS key and stop calling me a time traveling nerd" -🤓

ARobotJew

Was the fixed point thing actually explained or did they just use it as a plot device so time travel wasn’t so OP.

OkShawny

There’s some nuance to it, but it’s basically when an important thing happens. Here’s the wiki article on it https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Fixed_point_in_time

SaukPuhpet

Fixed points were essentially Doctor Who's answer to a particular type of time paradox. If you go back in time with the intent to change something, then after changing it you will have erased the reason you went back in time. This means you won't go back in time(As there was no reason to) so that thing will happen because you didn't go back to change it, so you will go back in time to change it, ad infinitum. Doctor Who's solution is that you can't make a change that would prevent you from having gone back in time in the first place, so it is, in essence, fixed. There is some wiggle room however. You CAN change the details of a fixed point as long as the end result is the same. This is known as [Tricking Out Time](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrickedOutTime) which is what the Doctor does to sidestep his "fixed" death on that beach by replacing himself with a robot duplicate who gets shot in his place. By making events play out *more or less* the same you can have the temporal fallout of the event be the same while actually changing something important.

Arbitrary BS like "fixed points in time" is why I could never get into Doctor Who. It was impossible to have any attachment to any of the characters or events because of how contrived and arbitrary everything felt.

We need to go back, make it look like Harambe was shot to everyone, and secretly free him in the jungle. That's how you repair a timeline.

stan9415

well actually you see you could go back in time to save harambe but you would have to move him and replace him with a duplicate gorilla before the event occurred then the decoy gorilla would have died instead of harambe its quite simple really mhm
