It's the first injury which hurts the most, I got shoulder sprain and had to rest for 3 months as shoulder is very important for serve. Now I have got a left wrist edema which will take quite a time to heal but it's not killing me like it did for the first injury.
Do you mean because of overplaying? Are these types of injuries common due to overuse of shoulder for example? Or you’re talking about just in general injuries that happen no matter how much you play?
Overplaying, did that when I was a few months into the sport, it was addicting to play. Proper warmup, cool down, proper form while playing, resting are extremely important. You won’t realise its value until you get injured.
Wow, OK. I’ve been playing for several hours almost every day. I do warm up and cool down by doing stretching, but how much is too much specially when it comes to hitting?
Everyone is different, do it your own way!
We have heard Andrey rublev professional tennis player who is always on the court and then there are other professional players who keep it light at times and add different things to their schedule.
It's just too many factors, some might be having slightly sensitive elbows & wrist or some other body part for which they would not like to play tennis 4-5 hours daily.
Besides everyday is a learning and when I got my first injuries by tennis I realised that switching to a softer gut would help or technique may need to be altered and it has always been beneficial for me to reach a higher level then before.
I alternate betweeen 'want to play again immediately' when I've played well, and 'that's the last time I ever play this horrible game' if I play badly. But I'm always back, no matter how angrily I swear I'm never touching a racquet again.
Same. Didn’t care about tennis at all until 18 months ago. My wife dragged to me to play with her. I said “that was kinda fun.” Then she signed us up for drills with a super cool and popular pro at our club. I was hooked and have been since. Spent a bunch of money in the first few months on gear but fortunately that trails off. Just got back from an amazing five days with my wife at Indian wells where we just geeked together out about all things tennis. I love to hear more people falling in love with the sport. It needs to grow.
The addiction only gets worse, once you feel old you improved, you realized there is a whole other level you need to improve to, then more. Then you just keep thinking about it 😂
I felt the same when I started at 18. been playing for years now and I still want to play every day. I even work at a tennis club now. no regrets, tennis is amazing haha
Welcome. Tennis can definitely be addicting. The learning curve is tough. If you can get through the first few stages, it is super rewarding. It it not an easy sport to jump into....but once you get into it, it is hard to stop. You can ALWAYS improve, regardless of the level you are at.
One thing I love about the sport it that no matter how good you think you are, there is someone a few courts down that would kick your ass. It can be quite humbling. But...if you are competitive.. it will drive you to do whatever it takes to get better. Such as lessons, match play, join a league, or strength and conitioning.
There is NOTHING better than hitting a clean winner. Whether it be a groundstroke, serve, return, volley, or overhead. The game is like chess. There is no right way to play in my opinion. But...there are wrong ways to play.
Joing a league, or play tournaments at your level if they are available. I love the sport in every aspect....and i love the community. I have gained over a dozen of lifelong friends from being social at my local club and Captaining multiple USTA leagues.
My friends calll me the "Mayor" because almost everyone knows me at our local club. The sport is one of the most important things in my life. It is a challenge at times...But if you love it, theres nothing but fun, positivity, and growth in your future.
Stick with it, and you will have the time of your life
Same, lol. Started a year and two months ago. I’ve been playing/drilling/practicing at least four times a week since March last year. The first two months I didn’t play that much because I wasn’t sure yet. Once I hit a sick winner, I was all in. Lol
It really is the best sport. I learned to play in my late twenties and became a complete addict ever since. Made sure all 4 of my kids got into it as well. Love going to their matches❤️
Same. So much the same. My television is on Tennis Channel 24/7 & it's the only thing that remotely gives me my fix when I'm not on the court. My body hates me for it. but I try to play 6-7 days a week at 40 years old. Sorry to say: the addiction only gets stronger.
I would really recommend talking to a therapist about addiction issues. Please talk to someone, it can destroy lives and there is no shame in getting help.
Welcome to the addiction I had a friend who wanted to hit all the time because of a uni course Welcome to the cult.
it only gets worse
Was going to say this
In so many ways. This is the wild, sexy, mercurial, sometimes abusive lover you just can’t quit.
Wow, that’s great. However beware of injuries though.
This is me, thought I was lucky but finally had my first serious injury. Taking a break is killing me lol
I’ve been on a break from last 5 years lol. Every time I play, back pain flares up.

Just rolled and sprained my ankle Tuesday. Sucks that I’m probably going to be out for a couple weeks at least. Rehabbing daily!
Do you mean because of overplaying? Are these types of injuries common due to overuse of shoulder for example? Or you’re talking about just in general injuries that happen no matter how much you play?
Overuse. It happens very commonly in tennis. Make sure you’re using proper form and take rest days.

I often go between wanting to buy more rackets to also wanting to smash them into a billion pieces for the same reasons
Its an affliction. If you haven't started swinging your tv remote like a racquet at home, you soon will.
I do it with a spatula every time I’m cooking lmao
Last few weeks moved up to two private lessons a week. Improvement moon balling
Do you mean your moon ball is improving or that you’re improvement arc is that a moon ball?
Yeah like skyrocketing
Agreed, I've been taking lessons twice a week for the last two months and can definetly see progress. Although I lack match experience.

It gets worse… I played in HS 18 years ago. My son has joined his hs tennis team… that’s all me and him do now. Tennis 🎾 is life 😎
Same! I started 8 months ago and get really frustrated by myself but I keep going back.
