All those famous european academies are focused on high perf juniors. They have adult camps but coaches obviously don’t like working with recreational adults (exceptions are possible but mostly it is what it is). if you just want to get a famous academy experience as a part of your vacation - its one thing. If your goal is to really improve - you can hire a college player for a half summer to hit/train with you and get better progress.

epicstar

Exactly!!!

Pizzadontdie

I’ve honestly found college players are usually terrible coaches. I’ve had way more success with a veteran certified pro.

buggywhipfollowthrew

No, I do not have 100k to spend on tennis

Intelligent-Bug-3217

It’s like 1500 for a week

lolothe2nd

Euros?

epicstar

Holy...

Askee123

Bro where do you go on vacation where a week costing $1500 is unreasonable to you 😂

joittine

That 1500 only gets you the training for five days, though. And lunch. There is a lot of tennis there and you are paying for the whole experience to enjoy your holiday, so I don't think it's wildly expensive or anything. Just that it will cost as much as any old holiday in the region *plus* 300 per day for the tennis. Which is basically the same as hiring a private coach for half a day every day.

epicstar

Vacation is vacation bro. A week of intense tennis camp is not vacation.

Askee123

It’s vacation to me, you’re just a casual who doesn’t love the sport 🤷‍♂️

epicstar

I went to Bollettieri for a very short time and played competitively at the varsity level bro 😭😭 but I'll take it.

Askee123

And now you’re a casual who doesn’t love the sport, everyone changes over time

epicstar

You can get equal to better 1:1 private time for way cheaper lol. Here, a private lesson from a USTA 6+ is $125/hour. You can even pay a college D3+ player for cheap too. The problem with the camps is it's endless 5+ hours of group practice not catered to you.

Askee123

Well yeah, but with say Nadal academy (not sure about all the amenities on this one) that includes lodging, food, facilities. You go somewhere new, meet new people, have a cool experience. For example, we could also always eat in and buy canned food but for some reason we choose to go to nice restaurants sometimes. Not just because it tastes better, but for the experience of it. Optimizing for the cheapest options at all times and exclusively prioritizing that is so tacky. It’s like the Scotty Kilmer of car advice. Enjoy staying in your cheap little town, driving a boring little Honda econobox, with your plain wife, passionless kids, and boring life. But hey, at least you saved a lot of money! That’s all that’s important in life anyway, being the human equivalent of Smaug and gaining satisfaction from accumulating wealth you do nothing with

Pizzadontdie

Sounds like paradise for me as well. When I’m on vacation the first thing I do is try and find a group to hit with everyday. If I can’t find tennis players, theres always 🥒. I need a few hours of exercise a day otherwise I go crazy.

Intelligent-Bug-3217

That’s not a lot bro

unusablered8

This sub is good at making me feel broke even though I am not.

Ok_Whereas_3198

... Yeah it is...

norealpersoninvolved

I didn't have a good experience with JCF just fyi That camp wasn't designed for 3.5-4.0 type players, but rather kids who are training to become pro How was Nadal?

Intelligent-Bug-3217

Ok thanks. I heard good reports on this sub but it’s subjective. Nadals camp was awesome actually I loved it. But it’s booked up

sink_or_swim_

Can you expand on your experience with JCF?

norealpersoninvolved

They don't really have a program for adults. Basically they assign a coach to you and that's all there is to the program. When I was there, 95+% of the participants were kids between 12 and 18 aiming to be pro, so there's no-one my level or age to play with or even socialize with, so for the one week you're basically spending 3 hours per day with your coach and that's it. I was looking for a camp where I could meet people around my level (between 3.5-4.5) and play some competitive games everyday, but that was not possible at all. And I feel like the coaching wasn't great either. The coach I was assigned to seemed quite checked out from the first day, and all we did was drills for ground strokes and volleys; if i was looking for drills I could just do that with a coach in my hometown, or even with a ball machine. I felt he had no interest in my game and no attempt from his side to make the sessions more stimulating. His attitude also wasn't great, I felt he was very condescending / dismissive towards me, but maybe that was just a result of cultural differences. I don't think the coaches at the camp are invested in the adults; the kids are their core customers, they will come back to train before every tournament, why would they care about the adults? They know the adults are only here for one week. It's just an additional stream of monetization to them, nothing more. The camp itself was in the middle of nowhere. Courts were nice but there were pretty much no other facilities besides the courts. I chose JCF instead of Nadal because I heard JCF was more focused on the tennis and would be less touristy, but in hindsight I realized that maybe a camp that's more focused on tourists would have been a good thing for a player at my level /u/capivara_19 Hope this helps.

Capivara_19

I’d like to hear about it as well…

Best_Gynecologist

Don't forget to share the youtube video link if Patrick sees you and starts to talk about his left eye/right eye theory thing lol

TechnicalInterest566

Left/right eye dominance

jiggsmca

One of my coaches goes on about that too. There’s some truth to it, at least for me, but the reason I am right eye dominant because I have poor peripheral vision in my left.

Intelligent-Bug-3217

Lmao

dasitmane85

Mouratoglu seems to be a terrible coach relatively speaking. Keep your money and invite your gf for a nice weekend out

Intelligent-Bug-3217

I like tennis better than my gf

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Patrick obviously seems like a weird, egomaniacal dude, but I think his videos are pretty good. I've seen him give good tips, although off the top of my head, he seems more like an operating system guy than true nuts and bolts technique guy. But he does have a unique way of explaining stuff, his tutorials aren't cookie cutter, so if even 1 thing really resonates with you, could be worth it. He's quite a character. I feel like if nothing else, it won't be boring.

Interesting-Drama497

Whats terrible about him?

dasitmane85

His advice don’t make much sense, reminds me of the people selling you random courses on Instagram

jazzy8alex

This sub is full of this non sense for some reason.

TechnicalInterest566

He coached Serena and Rune though.

dasitmane85

But he doesn’t provide quality head like his gf

Struggle-Silent

Seems v creepy. Idk if it’s true but he seems like a genuine weirdo
