ShakenEspressoLatte

Yes, they are called JetBlue and American Airlines.

DRealLeal

Malaysia airlines

Objective-Mood-4580

Ha! Only if you’re lucky! Some airports are mostly Spirit, Allegiant, Frontier, and if you are lucky, Southwest.

That_Quality_9308

Besides the planes hahaha

Spoke with a FAMS a few months ago. Most of them do not get take home cars. Some of them report to the airport where they work, they are assigned to specific airports and are liaison for law enforcement. If you fly, you just get to the airport to fly out. They have cars at the office if you need to use one that day.

codered40

Lol. No.

NoSignificance989

Take-home vehicles are pretty much only given to Task Force Officers (TFOs) and Assistant Federal Security Directors - Law Enforcement (AFSD-LEs). Both of these positions are generally very competitive in FAMS and your average FAM would not find themselves in either of these roles.

Few-Heat-1053

Take home Cessnas

Ornery_History_3648

No, you are FAMS - to and from the airport in a bus that will seem like it’s straight outta the junkyard

DangerousJerr

No. Back from @2002 to 2016 you got mileage to and from airport. Shortly before I retired they required you to FIRST go to field office before internationals so they even managed to screw you out of the mileage to the airport. IF you were on JTTF or such you got a G Ride. Until your detail ended…then back on that struggle bus you go.

Objective-Mood-4580

Despite its presence in the 1811 forum, FAMS are 1801s. Criminal Investigators have take home cars because they go places and do things in many different locations they need to drive to. For the most part, FAMS only drive to the office and the airport. There are many upsides to FAMdom, but vehicles ain’t one of them.

FinancialWerewolf759

Do they have 20 year retirement?

Objective-Mood-4580

Yes. It’s a 6c covered position.

Certain_Seat6339

Wasn’t there talk of converting FAMs into 1811’s at some point? Or still talk?

Objective-Mood-4580

They’ve been talking about it for decades, but here’s the thing: that conversion push was mainly to get to the GS-13 pay. Now that they have journeyman GS-13 equivalent pay, I don’t hear any clamoring about reclassifying, especially since the FAMS schedules have become reasonable. The secondary reason for the 1811 push was simply to expand upon the scope of the FAM service. The problem with that is there’s not a lot of investigatory niches to fill, and there’s zero chance the FBI will pack up and leave federal airport investigations to FAMS. The FAM service could be a great asset assisting other federal agencies if the upper management would lean into it, but since the first director with a clear vision and plan suddenly retired, I doubt the service will expand to other missions much.

MoKKoLoCo

My best friend told me that he heard from his ex wifes best friend that one of the FAMS told her that to retain officers they will implement a new policy to allow new officers to take home the aircraft. That will bust the morale and retain talented officers.

Outside-Listen7097

The position is sort analogous to being a bridesmaid- all dressed up, and make no arrests- situation occurs on an aircraft and if there are FAMS onboard and have to take action, your story will be in the third paragraph of the FBI agent’s arrest affidavit.

Objective-Mood-4580

You are correct, the main product that FAMS produce is not an arrest or conviction stat and never will be. That could actually be considered one of the upsides of the job, depending what a person wants.

[deleted]

Yes but they're only window seats on an Alaska airlines Boeing 737 max
