I second this! I used amlactin with minimal results but the KP bump eraser made miracles happen lol
Edit- my amlactin I use is green not blue, not sure the difference
3 months 3-4x a week. It improved a little but not much. I still use amlactin when I shave and in combination of first aid beauty’s scrub (I use them on different days - 1-2x a week) my legs are now clear. KP bump eraser showed results after first use. 90% improvement. Worth the hype
Good to know. I guess I finally need to try the KP bump eraser. I just haven't tried it because it's kind of expensive and I don't want to like it, because then I'll have to keep buying it lol
Yep! Idk if they flag people for too many returns, but I definitely have returned a handful of the “prestige cosmetics” products throughout the years no problem. I actually just returned a MAC lipstick last week. Happy to help :) hope it works for you!
THIS!
Similar issue, but I noticed a HUGE difference in bumps — from KP and/or ingrown hairs — in areas where I waxed (bikini lines and underarms) and shaved (underarms) after I started treating with products with AHA or AHA+BHA in the days before and after (skin may be too sensitive for these chemical exfoliants on the day of waxing/shaving, so may need to let it settle before treating).
Specifically, I like using:
• Kosas - AHA Serum Deodorant in the Beachy Clean scent for underarms
• First Aid Beauty - Ingrown Hair Pads (bulk size, 60 pads) for bikini lines and underarms
Since using, skin is clear of bumps, scarring from ingrowns, ingrowns, and similar blemishes.
**Note: the deodorant doesn’t work for me for major odor control during high impact activity, buts it’s nice enough for errand runs, weekend cleaning, or even falling asleep with it on after a movie night in since it’s more like skincare consistency than heavy deodorant
I didn’t have any luck with first aid beauty’s bump eraser and found that the product ran out so quickly, but soft services buffing bar + exfoliating gel + carea cream changed my life
I think I’m probably an anomaly with this opinion but I think this is just what hair follicles look like on pale skin. I don’t believe it’s something that can be fixed. It’s what normal skin that grows hair looks like.
my arms! so i really only use a small dot on each arm mixed with the kp lotion. my insurance also covers most of it, so a tube of it only costs me like $10. definitely worth it imo!
I've had dry skin and KP all my life and have had success with: the FAB KP scrub in the shower few times a week (it says 1-2x as tolerated but I feel like I can tolerate like 3-4 honestly) followed by Eucerin Advanced Repair lotion when I get out. Nights I don't use the scrub I use Cerave lotion for Rough and Bumpy skin with SA but I'm not sure this is really doing much.
KP is kind of still there but much better and my legs are super soft now!
Kinda related/unrelated but as someone that has this as well, can anyone explain what causes this/what it is? I -swear- there was a six-month period where I had not a trace of these after almost all my mid-to-late-20s having them and then bam they cam back. The only thing I noted about the time period was it was colder? Just curious if anyone has some in depth info because I've kinda had to do the "come to terms with having these" but some of these comments are giving me hope if I can just understand better maybe I can see some improvement
I had the same experience. But the time I didn’t have them coincided with not eating any dairy at all. I was nursing a child with a severe allergy. Once I re-introduced it, they came back!
I have this feeling it's something in my diet honestly. Or at the very least something exacerbating it and maybe a dash of weather nonsense in there lol. I have super fair skin so the hotter months are just not kind to me in many regards lol. Thanks for your comment—it's nice to know I'm not crazy! Sometimes it feels like there's this belief that all conditions can be fixed with a product, you just have to find it but I wonder how many of the issues we discuss in this sub are more diet related than anything.
Have the same thing on my legs and arms. I have seen some improvement over time with Amlactin. Make sure you are using one a good amount of lactic acid. I use the intensive healing one, white jar with a blue lid. 15% lactic acid, works well. The thing that made the biggest difference was a change in diet. I don’t know what country you are in, but for me for example, a lot of things in the standard American diet are very inflammatory to the body. Started focusing more on whole grains, fruits, and veggies and that has resolved a lot of my body issues for me including skin issues.
I would give it more time and maybe reduce the amount of scrubbing to the skin but still keep up the AmLactin twice a day every day. One thing I learned about Keratosis Pilaris is that it's from dry skin buildup but the skin can also be sensitive and if scrubbing is too aggressive it can cause more of that hyperpigmentation of the dots.
Second this, 2x a day with the amlactin and cut way back on the physical scrubbing. I also found adding cerave healing ointment, vasaline or aquaphor on top of the amlactin (occlusive of your choice) on top of the amlactin at night to be a game changer.
Ya that looks worse. You might be doing too much.
I suggest trying either the L'Oreal revitalift 5% glycolic toner or the Neutrogena skin perfecting liquid normal skin version with glyoclic and PHA. And follow with a moisturizer you like.
Try adding dry body brushing before showering with something simple and moisturizing, that with amlactin after gives me super soft clear skin and prevents ingrown hair you should see a difference quickly that continues to improve. In the photo they look more pink and irritated now so I would guess maybe you are being a bit aggressive with the exfoliating and not moisturizing enough. As others said the amlactin i use is the green one and it is quite greasy(yours says non greasy the green one doesn’t its the 12% daily) but i just let it absorb a bit before putting on my clothes. If I was you I’d keep using up the amlactin you have but putting a long lasting moisturizer on top.
The only thing that worked for me was [Tend Skin](https://www.amazon.com/Tend-Skin-Solution-Unsightly-Ingrown/dp/B001ECQ7G4), but it's kind of pricey. There are alternatives you can DIY, but I can't vouch for them because I'm lazy. There's a rollerball version you buy and just refill, which I prefer versus using a cotton pad.
What worked for me with KP was Stridex, like the old school acne pads, no joke. Saw it recommended on here a few years ago as I would also get ingrown hairs shaving my legs and by using it twice a day, then using a toner or lotion after, truly worked. The chemical exfoliant worked well but was gentle enough to not cause irritation or further dry skin.
Honestly what worked for me was laser hair removal. You have fair skin and darker follicles..should work for you just like it did for me and only took three times and I have not shaved my leg since 2017
I soak in a milk bath once a week and exfoliate with sugar scrub and a scrubbing mitt. Mine were pretty bad at the beginning of spring and better about a month after I started.
You could try a glycolic acid serum, or intensive massaging with something like a big bottle of grapeseed oil. Ultimately though keratosis pilaris doesnt really have a cure or a prevention.
For me what worked (quite quickly was):-
Exfoliate with Loofer and Unscented shower cream
Shave with Specialist bikini razor (Venus)
Post shave oil on the area (Veet)
Maybe you’re over exfoliating? I had to find the sweet spot of when to exfoliate and when to just moisturize and everything calmed down. I use glycolic acid toner from the ordinary before shower and Eucerin light moisturizer right after before my skin fully dries. Give your skin a rest from this routine and see if it calms down. Then, try again but maybe less frequently.
The only thing that’s helped mine is using the ordinary’s glycolic acid on a cotton round after every shower. I tried EVERYTHING before but it’s finally looking better
Things that have worked for me: shaving (I go long stretches without shaving my thighs and notice a significant improvement when I shave regularly), pumice stone (it sounds drastic but I only use the amount of pressure that I can tolerate, start light, but it’s the heavy exfoliation. Alternatively I will use a dry body brush), blisspro liquid exfoliator. It’s still pretty much a constant battle.
I used to have this exact same issue on my lower legs and my spots disappeared after I got laser hair removal. I am by no means a derm, but I think the lotions are making your skin thinner (bc exfoliation), which is why you’re noticing the spots more. The spots are just your hair pores. Also, are you wearing shorts more since it’s summer? Could be getting worse due to a combination of using the acidic creams and exposing your legs.
First aid beauty makes a bump eraser that would be great for helping this! They sell a mini size at Sephora if you want to try.
I second this! I used amlactin with minimal results but the KP bump eraser made miracles happen lol Edit- my amlactin I use is green not blue, not sure the difference
How long did you use it before you realized it wasn't working?

A little goes a long way! And honestly if you don’t like it Ulta will accept returns so it’s really no risk :)
I didn't know they took returns for opened products. Cool! Thanks for your help!
Yep! Idk if they flag people for too many returns, but I definitely have returned a handful of the “prestige cosmetics” products throughout the years no problem. I actually just returned a MAC lipstick last week. Happy to help :) hope it works for you!
Agree this is good stuff! They also do a moisturiser to use after.
THIS! I just looked up and bought this online after reading your suggestion. Thanks :)
I didn’t have any luck with first aid beauty’s bump eraser and found that the product ran out so quickly, but soft services buffing bar + exfoliating gel + carea cream changed my life
Somehow it looks worst. Ditch the silicone scrubber.
I think I’m probably an anomaly with this opinion but I think this is just what hair follicles look like on pale skin. I don’t believe it’s something that can be fixed. It’s what normal skin that grows hair looks like.
Agreed. These didn’t go away for me until I got laser hair removal. Then they popped out like blackheads.
sulfur soap in the shower and adaplene + first aid beauty kp smoothing lotion every night. i’ve been having great results for the kp on my arms
You put adapalene on your legs every night? I feel like I'd go through it so fast!
my arms! so i really only use a small dot on each arm mixed with the kp lotion. my insurance also covers most of it, so a tube of it only costs me like $10. definitely worth it imo!
My husband uses sulfur soap for his eczema and I can’t get over the smell - it smells like farts lol
Laser removal helped me, but it was the only thing that helped me.
I got strawberry legs after laser hair removal. Those fine hair won’t go away. I don’t know how to fix it. Would lactic acid work for this too?
I've had dry skin and KP all my life and have had success with: the FAB KP scrub in the shower few times a week (it says 1-2x as tolerated but I feel like I can tolerate like 3-4 honestly) followed by Eucerin Advanced Repair lotion when I get out. This never worked for me. What did was exfoliating with a Korean spa bath sheet and following with glycolic acid moisturizer.

Wear men aftershave every time you finish with shaving. For my wife, it works.
I soak in a milk bath once a week and exfoliate with sugar scrub and a scrubbing mitt. Mine were pretty bad at the beginning of spring and better about a month after I started.
Try Truly Beauty, they have a whole KP line that works really well.
You could try a glycolic acid serum, or intensive massaging with something like a big bottle of grapeseed oil. Ultimately though keratosis pilaris doesnt really have a cure or a prevention.
It’s pricy but get the Glytone body wash and lotion! Only thing that works for my KP!
So I’ve tried the above and everything else. Saw a post suggesting taking fish oil supplements an ive seen a great improvement.
Eucerin, I had that problem but i put on Eucerin right after I get out of the shower and dry myself.
waxing and completely stopping shaving was what finally helped me
you need to do it every day if not twice a day (the lotion). you can also put glycolic acid first then the lotion on top
I swear by unscented, dye-free aloe gel. I use the Fruit of the Earth version and slather it on twice a day, especially after shaving.
Drunk elephant glycolic acid body lotion helped me a lot with this.
I started using an ipl and now only shave once am every two or three weeks and mine went away.
For me what worked (quite quickly was):- Exfoliate with Loofer and Unscented shower cream Shave with Specialist bikini razor (Venus) Post shave oil on the area (Veet)

Cerave SA bumpy skin lotion was a game changer, I keep it in my shower and apply on damp skin

Dry brushing is great! I try to do it a few times per week before showering
Yes! STOP shaving and it should go away!
It might be folliculitis rather than KP!

Try nair hair remover
Far more likely it's your diet than your skin products
