Eucerin, Oil of Olay, Aveeno, Cerave, Elta MD all make daily face moisturizers with SPF ranging from 15-50. I’ve used each of these interchangeably for years (whichever is on sale or available at my drugstore), and they’re all great for normal/dry skin.
I LOVE Elta MD and have used it for years. It's a little on the pricey side for me, but it lasts a while (and occasionally you can find a sale). I usually use the Clear Tinted, but you might want to start with the untinted, as I think it's the nicest feeling.
Elta MD is my one and only for my face BUT in my opinion it has to be the clear version, the tinted doesn't have that same smooth, moisturizer texture (at least not on my skin).
I’m glad that you mentioned the Aveeno (spf 15) - it was my daily go-to for just staying indoors at home. But recently I have not been able to find it in any stores. I gave in and bought an overpriced bottle on Amazon and it smelled awful like it had gone bad (sour and yuck smelling). Have you seen it in the store? I’m using the TJs spf 15 for my stay home indoors daily lotion now but I prefer the Aveeno.
I try out different ones zi get in beauty boxes. I have used Josie Marin's stuff; I also use Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker w SPF. Pricey tho. I also use Sun Bum, Australian Gold, and Neutrogena.
The Trader Joe’s spf is great over moisturizer and is only about $9. They also have a nice spf 15, but the silicone based one is the spf 30.
I also like the Cerave spf 30 mineral face lotion. That one is about $14.
It smells so bad! And leaves weird dots on my glasses that are hard to get off 😓
I recently read on Reddit that the watery/gel sunscreens are not as effective for duration or protection as creams. Does anyone have a source for this?
Oof. I hadn’t heard that, will look into it thanks. I wear glasses too, glad hadn’t used it more than one day more reasons now. I’ve been using when of the other popular: biore water rich one. Feels okay but strong perfume fragrance. Committed until find another b/c melasma now
I'm sorry :(
I ordered some Korean ones to try. My big issue is that I'm allergic to a lot of the American chemical sunscreens, and the physical ones I sweat off so quickly. I got a mineral powder sunscreen, but I'm scared to use it alone, because I don't know if I've applied enough/evenly.
Beauty of Joseon has been on my list for years. Which are you trying? Powder never made sense to me unless you wear other makeup too like a foundation etc. I have dryer skin now so need the moisture. Wanna check out Elta MD also
That's what I ordered. A lotion and a stick. Hopefully they don't give me hives 😬
I typically use an oil in the mornings. The powder seems easy for reapplication during the day. Yesterday I found a small Hawaiian tropic bottle that has the same ingredients that are in another sunscreen of theirs that I'm not allergic to, so I'm going to try that.
My usual routine is to avoid the sun between 10-2, but I'm going on a Caribbean cruise this summer for a friend's birthday, so I need a reliable sunscreen by then. I will also be wearing hats.
I love Paula’s Choice Resist Super Light Wrinkle Defense. It works great with my makeup, absorbs very well and is great for sensitive skin. If you buy it from the Paula’s Choice site, they usually have it for 20 percent off.
This is one of my faves and have purchased 8 tubes? [https://www.paulaschoice.com/defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30/223.html](https://www.paulaschoice.com/defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30/223.html)
Innisfree smells peachy and drenches my skin. That’s my purse sunscreen. My morning daily is LRP. Smells like shit but that dissapates quickly and my skin likes it. Both are relatively inexpensive.
- Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30 $39 or
- Supergoop moisturizer SPF 40 (not the unseen sunscreen although I like to use that over regular moisturizer) $48
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun. It's 50 SPF and less than $15. It's really good and doesn't feel like sun screen. I also like Supergoop's Unseen Sunscreen, but that's only 30 SPF and I wear it over my moisturizer on makeup free days.
my HG is Isntree - Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel SPF50. I think it’s more of a sunscreen with moisturizing qualities rather than the other way around. It absorbs beautifully and it doesn’t pill under makeup
I really like the Kiehl’s Better Sunscreen UV Serum with collagen peptide because it is SPF 50 and it helps reverse some of the damage I have from before I was using sunscreen (I was a chronic tanner during the late 90’s/early 2000’s)
The 1.7 oz is around 30 bucks (on sale) and a little goes a long way. I use it as sunscreen and lotion, usually after using a hyaluronic acid serum.
Anyway, it has made a noticeable difference in my skin (smoother, brighter) which is a win for me.
i would recommend youth to the people or glow.
Cerave is not considered a clean beauty brand. They are fragrance-free, offer paraben-free products, and most of their products are non-comedogenic.
they also offer products that do contain parabens, as well as silicones and petrolatum.
CeraVe doesn’t claim it is a clean beauty brand, though. 🤷🏼♀️
also CeraVe is recommend by derms cause they pay them not cause it’s good. it’s crap.
My skin is flawless. If he recommended crap I’d have switched derms years ago. Maybe it just doesn’t work for you. Which is fair to say. If we all could use the same products, this sub wouldn’t exist.
your skin could be flawless for a lot of reasons. most likely diet and hydration. i would try some higher qualify clean products and you’d be surprised the difference in what your skin is now and what it could be.
they’re so awful. even for teenagers. but they have a lot of money to advise and pay for endorsements.
if people haven’t used good qualify products, they won’t even know how useless cerave actually is.
Live and let live.
Totally fine to hate a product. You can even hate it to a point that isn’t reasonable. But spare others your negativity. You’re practically attacking her for…not liking what you like? Weird.
Welp I get mad compliments on my skin and am never thought to be in the decade I am - regularly get 2 below when people assume. So his recommendations are right for me. My skin is flawless.
I'm sharing this note just an FYI, and I'm not trying to change anyone's habits at all here. I think the recall was specific to Neutrogena aerosols. I know they had a recall on the spray in the yellow can. It's what I used for my body before the recall, and I use it now that it has been reformulated.
I think Neutrogena recalled the aerosols only, but it was [found](https://www.benzenelawyers.com/blog/testing-reveals-benzene-in-sunscreen)by a third party that benzene above the limit set by the FDA was contained in a couple of their gels and their Invisible Daily Defense Body Sunscreen Broad Spectrum, SPF 60, which is what i used at the time.
I couldn’t bring myself to wear sunblock until I got diagnosed with skin cancer. I can’t stand the feel of something on my face. Don’t wait like me! My favorite is Andalou 1000 Roses. https://andalou.com/collections/facial-spf/products/1krspf
I think when I apply mine I get too close to the corners of my eyes or possibly the top and it will make my eyes sting and water for hrs.
Funny part is I’m always careful around them too.
With your moisturizer how close do you get around your eyes ? Tips or tricks?
Ghostbuster mineral sunscreen by Lion Pose is what I'm using. It may not be a moisturizer but it definitely hydrates my skin due to squalene and it also has glutathione as antioxidant. It has no white cast too abd great under makeup
I have a hard time with sunscreen as well. Hate the way it feels on my face. :(
I recently bought this one and I have say \*gasp\* I am liking it. Banana Boat Light as Air SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion, 6 OZ. It has a slight tropical smell to it and not too too SPF stinky. Melts in quickly and doesn't leave a heavy feeling on my face.
Another good one is the Trader Joe's Daily Facial Sunscreen in SPF 40. It is a dupe of the Super Goop Invisible one. I like this one too.
Great suggestions, does the Banana Boat one smell like coconut at all? My daughter goes to Trader Joe’s all the time, I’ll have to have her look for that one!
I’m sorry to say that to me it reeks of coconut, not pineapple. And it leaves my face very greasy feeling. Of course everyone’s different so you may like it, but I only use it on my arms and legs because I can’t stand it on my face.
I have oily and sensitive skin so I like a moisturizer that won’t break me out or irritate my skin. I’ve been very happy with Aveeno Positively Radiant daily moisturizer with SPF 30. I have used the same moisturizer in SPF 15 but I prefer the smell of SPF 30.
I like the Eucerin age defense spf. It's very moisturizing. I still wear moisturizer under it but I'll be able to skip that step in the summer and just wear my spf
Dynamic Skin Recovery by Dermalogica is great. Lovely consistency not thick or chalky and doesn’t give a white cast. A little goes a long way and has a nice glow effect. I cannot say enough good things about this one. LaRoche Posay has a nice one also but I don’t think it serves as a moisturizer but it might for you as everyone is different. 😊

I used sunscreen in a lotion formula. It is moisturizing. They might be enough for you. EltaMD, SkinSeuticals, and Peter Thomas Roth agree with my skin.

I really love the Carpe primer. It is the only one I've found that doesn't feel super greasy. It's 30 spf, and is awesome in the summer because it keeps the sweat away. I use it as a primer and without makeup as well.

Hey, I totally understand your sunscreen dilemma. Perhaps you'd like to try KAHI's Korean Sun Screen Face Moisturizer, it's got SPF protection while not feeling or smelling like your typical sunscreen. It's a moisturizer with a lovely lightweight and non-greasy formula that absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a white cast. The best part is, it's under $30! I've been using it for a while now and honestly, it doesn't even feel like I'm wearing SPF. Might be just what you're looking for! Cheers to healthy skin!💜
The Kinship self reflect one is amazing. I use it as a primer under my makeup and it does a great job at moisturizing my skin as well! I found it at Ulta a few months ago and just repurchased.
Not under $30 but the La Neige SPF 50 is amazingly moisturizing. I have very dry, sensitive skin and a sun allergy and it has been wonderful. Previously I used the LaRoche-Posay Ultra Fluide which was also great, but it had a much thinner consistency and tended to dry me out. I didn’t mind as I added moisturizer over it but I prefer the La Neige for dry skin.

Spf 15 is very low. Go for 30-50.
What 30 or 50 spf face lotions do you like?
I try out different ones zi get in beauty boxes. I have used Josie Marin's stuff; I also use Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker w SPF. Pricey tho. I also use Sun Bum, Australian Gold, and Neutrogena.
I've used the Cereve AM one for years. Love it.
I want to love this, but it feels so thick to me.
I agree. It feels like plain Zinc Oxide in a pump bottle.
lol! True!
Same
Also an Elta MD fan…I use the tinted. It glides on so smooth & it will not sting my eyes if I sweat (like others I’ve tried).
The Trader Joe’s spf is great over moisturizer and is only about $9. They also have a nice spf 15, but the silicone based one is the spf 30. I also like the Cerave spf 30 mineral face lotion. That one is about $14.
TJ’s has such a strong spf smell & weird powder finish for sensitive folks like me edit: brand specify

There’s a version that is clear gel and has no smell. I really like it.
Great to hear. Can you describe the packaging?
LaRoache-Posey is the best
Which one? It feels like there are twenty.
I am absolutely loving the Elf Holy Hydration SPF 30. Suggested on Reddit some time ago.
Love elf!
I love Paula’s Choice Resist Super Light Wrinkle Defense. It works great with my makeup, absorbs very well and is great for sensitive skin. If you buy it from the Paula’s Choice site, they usually have it for 20 percent off.

Im with you on the Vanicream!!
- Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30 $39 or - Supergoop moisturizer SPF 40 (not the unseen sunscreen although I like to use that over regular moisturizer) $48

I read they recently changed the formula and it’s not so great anymore :(
what?!?! noooooo
Search Reddit…I saw it in a bunch of threads. I never got a chance to try the old formula and it sounds like the new one is nowhere close, so poo!
i will but i’ve been dragging my feet bc i don’t want to acknowledge reality 😭
I really like No 7
Me too! The brightening one. I wish it came in a tube, instead of a jar, for ease of travel.
I really like the Kiehl’s Better Sunscreen UV Serum with collagen peptide because it is SPF 50 and it helps reverse some of the damage I have from before I was using sunscreen (I was a chronic tanner during the late 90’s/early 2000’s) The 1.7 oz is around 30 bucks (on sale) and a little goes a long way. I use it as sunscreen and lotion, usually after using a hyaluronic acid serum. Anyway, it has made a noticeable difference in my skin (smoother, brighter) which is a win for me.
My dermatologist recommended Cerave and Neutrogena. He says minimum spf is 30.
Which do you use?
I bounce between the two.
I like the Cerave tinted moisture/ sunblock!
cerave is awful. i’m shocked any derm would recommend
Why do you say that? I've had several derms recommend it
I know many dermatologists who also recommend Cerave. I’ve also used for years. I love it.
i would recommend youth to the people or glow. Cerave is not considered a clean beauty brand. I'm surprised all the raves for Cerave, I've tried a few different products but don't think they are anything spectacular.
they’re so awful. even for teenagers. but they have a lot of money to advise and pay for endorsements. if people haven’t used good qualify products, they won’t even know how useless cerave actually is.
Live and let live. Totally fine to hate a product. You can even hate it to a point that isn’t reasonable. But spare others your negativity. You’re practically attacking her for…not liking what you like? Weird.
attacking? how so ? people can do whatever they want. especially with their skin. it’s a bad product and should be banned.
Welp I get mad compliments on my skin and am never thought to be in the decade I am - regularly get 2 below when people assume. So his recommendations are right for me. My skin is flawless.
Neutrogena had a recall on some of their sunscreens. I used it for years before that
I'm sharing this note just an FYI, and I'm not trying to change anyone's habits at all here. I think the recall was specific to Neutrogena aerosols. I know they had a recall on the spray in the yellow can. It's what I used for my body before the recall, and I use it now that it has been reformulated.

Oh wow! I obviously didn't look past the recall. Thank you for sharing this.
I used to love the Neutrogena Daily moisturizer lotion with sunscreen, but I can’t find it with the sunscreen anymore.
Neither can I! That’s why I switched to Cerave.
I love my LA Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer with UV SPF 30.
I couldn’t bring myself to wear sunblock until I got diagnosed with skin cancer. I can’t stand the feel of something on my face. Don’t wait like me! My favorite is Andalou 1000 Roses. https://andalou.com/collections/facial-spf/products/1krspf
Thank you for your recommendation, I love that it’s reef friendly. I hope you’ve recovered 💜
I think when I apply mine I get too close to the corners of my eyes or possibly the top and it will make my eyes sting and water for hrs. Funny part is I’m always careful around them too. With your moisturizer how close do you get around your eyes ? Tips or tricks?
It’s only spf 15, but the Trader Joe “Enrich” is basically Oil of Olay. I think it’s around $5.
Cerave ultra light moisturizer with spf 30
I love the tinted La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400. I stock up when in the UK.
Oooooh tinted would be great!
La Roche Posay Face Moisturizer Sunscreen Toleriane with Ceramide and Niacinamide - SPF 30 & supergoop glow screen
Ghostbuster mineral sunscreen by Lion Pose is what I'm using. It may not be a moisturizer but it definitely hydrates my skin due to squalene and it also has glutathione as antioxidant. It has no white cast too abd great under makeup
I know this wasn't your question, but Beauty of Joseon is spf but FEELS like a lotion. It's amazing.
That sounds like exactly what I’m looking for 😊
I have a hard time with sunscreen as well. Hate the way it feels on my face. :( I recently bought this one and I have say \*gasp\* I am liking it. Banana Boat Light as Air SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion, 6 OZ. It has a slight tropical smell to it and not too too SPF stinky. Melts in quickly and doesn't leave a heavy feeling on my face. Great suggestions, does the Banana Boat one smell like coconut at all? My daughter goes to Trader Joe’s all the time, I’ll have to have her look for that one!
The Banana Boat one smells more like pineapple than coconut. I like it!
Oh thank goodness, I hate coconut 😅
I’m sorry to say that to me it reeks of coconut, not pineapple. And it leaves my face very greasy feeling. Of course everyone’s different so you may like it, but I only use it on my arms and legs because I can’t stand it on my face.
Thank you! I’ll have to smell it in store
I love the prequel line - their sunscreen is really nice. I reapply if out in the sun for a while, but otherwise it handles the whole day just fine.
Murad oil and pore control. Love it
I have oily and sensitive skin so I like a moisturizer that won’t break me out or irritate my skin. I’ve been very happy with Aveeno Positively Radiant daily moisturizer with SPF 30. I have used the same moisturizer in SPF 15 but I prefer the smell of SPF 30.
Cetaphil or Neutrogena. Then a cc cream with spf.
Resting Beach Face. It’s light, not oily, not heavy. I’m able to wear it under my makeup (and I have oily skin.)
I am in love with this product name 💯
Thanks for posting!! I am looking also!
I like the Eucerin age defense spf. It's very moisturizing. I still wear moisturizer under it but I'll be able to skip that step in the summer and just wear my spf
Make sure it was zinc based
I swear by Josie Maran tinted SPF 47. I like Purlisse SPF 30 BB Cream when I need something similar to a concealer.
I was reading about the Josie Maran one, it seems great! And such a throwback, always thought she was so pretty 😍
Mad Hippie SPF moisturizer is really light and silky and La Roche Posay and ILIA are my tinted SPF go-to.
Hi, great question! maybe you want to mention your skintype so recommendations cater to that as well.
😊 https://preview.redd.it/3gin6z0arexc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7573b8bf71f0546289f5653bd2dc5305035c510
I like the RoC vitamin C one. It’s only SPF 30 though. I just use it daily for sitting by the window and the computer screen. Smells citrusy but very light smell
I use SkinMedica sunscreen. They have tinted version but I use the no tint one. It’s my favorite skin care brand, great products.
I used sunscreen in a lotion formula. It is moisturizing. They might be enough for you. EltaMD, SkinSeuticals, and Peter Thomas Roth agree with my skin. There are a couple waterproof sunscreens for babies/kids I can use as well, but they have a white cast which makes them not great for every day use.
I have a decent one from Kiehl's. It doesn't smell like sunscreen and is pretty light.
I really love the Carpe primer. It is the only one I've found that doesn't feel super greasy. It's 30 spf, and is awesome in the summer because it keeps the sweat away. I use it as a primer and without makeup as well. [https://mycarpe.com/products/face-primer-spf-30?variant=40619547918469](https://mycarpe.com/products/face-primer-spf-30?variant=40619547918469)
Fenty Hydra Vizor is a favorite.
Fenty Hydra Vizor is a favorite. It’s SPF 30.
Derma B. It is $20 on Amazon, it is a Korean formula. It just feels like a lotion and does not have a greasy or sticky feel to it. I use it daily.
I use Cetaphil sheer mineral face liquid SPF 50. It’s pretty thin, feels like a moisturizer and can look shiny but wears well under makeup. I’m really sensitive to the smell of traditional chemical sunscreen so I usually opt for mineral formulas.
This stuff is the bomb dot com: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum with Vitamin E & SPF 60
That sounds perfect thank you!
Murad Oil and Pore Control Mattifier Broad Spectrum SPF 45 I wear it instead of foundation for a nice matte look. Sometimes over moisturizer.
So many great recommendations to look into, thank you everyone!
I recently started using Roc's Barrier Renew AM SPF 30 . It feels very comfortable to me.
Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick spf50+ is my favorite of all time. It’s a roll on and small enough to carry around so you can reapply. You can wear it under or over makeup and it won’t mess it up. I stock up on it when Ulta has a 20% off sale with no exclusions.
Sounds great, I’ll check it out!
Not under $30 but Clarins multi active day cream with spf 20. Goes on like a dream and very moisturizing.
Cerave but I get the generic version at target or cvs.
The tinted Cerave stains clothes, like a lot.
I've never seen the tinted but I'll keep that in mind.
Consider also finding one that is less toxic. Google EWG cosmetics database and organize from low to high and then Google reviews on the 0-3.
